People is reporting that Melissa Rycroft will be replacing Nancy O’Dell on the cast of Dancing with the Stars. Many of you are probably asking who Melissa Rycroft is. It’s a good question considering it is called Dancing with the Stars and normally we know at least the names of the stars.

I write a bunch of TV blogs and even I had to take a second look to figure out the name Melissa Rycroft. Melissa is a former Dallas Cowboy cheerleader, but is really famous for her time on The Bachelor. Yes, Melissa was the one that Jason Mesnick through under the bus in the finale of The Bachelor. I will say that I think most people agreed that it really was the best thing that Jason could have done for Melissa. I think I didn’t recognize the name very quickly, because the Bachelor only uses first names. Dancing with the Stars is a great way for Melissa to bounce back.

I’m not really sure how much of a star Melissa is, but I’ll give ABC a break considering Nancy O’Dell was injured and I’m sure ABC was scrambling to find a replacement. Certainly Nancy O’Dell would have been more interesting, but I am excited to see Melissa try and strut her stuff on this season of Dancing with the Stars. I kind of like having one person who’s kind of a bit of a no namer. Maybe they should do one each year. Then, it would be truly Dancing with the Stars for those people.

One other thing that will be really interesting about Melissa Rycroft is that her parents wanted nothing to do with The Bachelor and refused to participate in the home town date. Now Melissa will be on a show that’s even more popular and often cuts to the family. Will Melissa’s parents decide to show their faces on Dancing with the Stars? I’m guessing they won’t and I must admit that if I was in their shoes I probably wouldn’t either.

During this past presidential race, Obama was praised for using the internet to get the word out. Well, in similar fashion Nerds across America (and probably the world) are uniting in a common cause. There goal is to keep the icon that is Woz on Dancing with the Stars as long as possible. This really hasn’t gone completely viral yet, but if Woz can last past an episode or two I think we’re going to see this really take off.

So, far there are already 2 twitter accounts devoted to getting people to vote for Woz and Steve Wozniack has created a twitter account himself to support the cause as well.

ars technica wrote a blog post about Woz on Dancing with the Stars and I’m sure many other major tech blogs and communities will be doing the same as well. They provided the following information for voting for Woz on Dancing with the Stars:

Just in case you were planning to contribute your support to Woz’s uh, new hobby, the phone number to vote will be 1-800-VOTE4-10. SMS (code 3410) will be limited to AT&T users only, though if you’re an iPhone user, you’ll likely fall into this category anyway. You can even vote online on the DWTS site after the show airs. According to Woz’s newly-created Twitter page, you can apparently vote up to 13 times from each phone number (one vote per contestant on the show), so if you’re really committed, start making plans for all of your friends to come over and have a Woz-watching party.

Long live the Woz!

I figured it was only a matter of time before Steve-O did something special on the show to utilize his “unique” talents. Well, looks like Lacey and Steve-O are already trying to work their fans for votes by stapling “vote for steve-O & lacey” on Steve-O’s body (picture). That guy is so much more of a man than me. The only thing that would make it better was if this was a video where we could really watch Lacey do it. I wonder if Lacey’s going to choreograph a real kick to the midsection as part of Dancing with the Stars. I’m amazed that Steve-O was willing to do this proper looking picture:

Also, this one is a little old, but I hadn’t written about it so I figured I’d throw it in here that Gilles Marini reportedly had a minor injury as well (who hasn’t been injured this season?). Here’s the description from People:

Marini, 33, sought medical treatment and his rep says doctors determined the actor has tendonitis in his groin and shoulder.

Despite the setback, “We’re pretty confident he’ll be fine for premiere night,” his rep Jana Davidoff tells People.com. “He’s in great shape. He’ll be fine.”

Jewel and Ty decided to turn the tables on Dmitry and Chelsie and teach them a little something new. Neither Chelsie or Dmitry had ridden horses before and so it’s kind of neat that Ty and Jewel could introduce them to something new.

You can read more about the horse riding, target shooting, four-wheel riding, fishing and eating BBQ that happened with Jewel and Ty in between Dancing with the Stars practice sessions on Jewel’s blog.

I’m still really sad that Jewel is injured and out of Dancing with the Stars. I was really looking forward to her on the show after seeing her as a judge on Nashville Star. Plus, the husband wife dynamic would have been interesting as well.

This is a really short video (under a minute), but fans of Derek and Lil’ Kim are going to really enjoy the inside preview into their training. As a fan of Dancing with the Stars it’s also fun to have a short look into how Derek trains the stars on doing Ballroom. They don’t have time for this type of video on the show, so it’s fun to get to see it now.

The stars going on Dancing with the Stars are really trying to turn up the heat when it comes to marketing themselves on the show. Looks like Denise Richards will be using her website “Diary” to update people about her experience on the show.
