Tonight’s dances were the viennese waltz and paso doble. 2 really interesting dances. They don’t usually have the same wow factor as some of the other dances(except for the Paso Doble sometimes), but the music is always nice. Plus, seeing Steve-O do a viennese waltz is priceless.

Don’t forget to take a look back at the previous DWTS music.

      John,

Julianne did a great interview when she was up in Seattle. Have you seen it yet?

When you speak with her family next, please tell them that Julianne has quite a few fans here up in the Pacific Northwest. We look forward to her next visit in September.

Wasn’t it a really awful singing of Habanera? Really, they should leave opera singing to, I don’t know, maybe real opera singers?

In general, it’d be nice if they used Paso Doble music for Paso Doble…

      Dave,
I’ll be certain to mention what you said to her mom. I’m sure they’re very grateful to have you as a fan.

      cat,
I’m not sure I’d say awful. I think the singers on the show do pretty well considering the broad range of music that they have to sing.

Although, being completely honest I have no idea why they even have a band and singers. We almost never see them. So You Think You Can Dance uses all recorded music and I’ve never once heard someone say they wish it was better quality or that it was live.

I even attended the taping of Dancing with the Stars and the live band made no impact on my experience. So, I say out with the band despite their incredible talent.

John, they shouldn’t try opera music AT ALL. Their voices aren’t suited for it, they don’t have the technique to do it properly. Would you like their piano player to try Moonlight sonata? This is the same thing really – the requirements for a performance of vocal classical music is the same near perfection one expects from concert performances of instrumental music. If you go on YouTube and try listening to habanera performed by real opera singers, you’ll see how bad this performance was.

If they wanted Carmen, they should have used a recording.

I guess I just have lower expectations for the music on the show since I’m mostly watching for the dancing. Although, I do love to be exposed to new music which is why I list all the music here.

I do agree that Dancing with the Stars should just stick to recordings. So much so that earlier today you prompted me to write this post about it: http://www.puredwts.com/2009/04/08/dancing-with-the-stars-doesnt-need-a-live-band/

Agree with your other post on using recording. With recorded music they can have more choice too. For example, they could use real paso doble music.

The reason this singing was distracting for me is that I am an opera fan. This is a VERY famous piece so most of us opera fans know it by heart.
