DWTS Season 10 Rumors – Greg Louganis…Again!

Shock of shocks, People.com is reporting that Greg Louganis wants to be on Dancing with the Stars!! Gee…where have I heard this one before? 😉 That’s right, this rumor started a while back and I reported on it here and here and here!  Now, People.com is quoting Greg as saying “put me on Dancing with the Stars”.  What does all this mean? Well, the original rumor was that he was vying for a spot on the show and subsequent rumors have been that he wants to be on the show. “Vying” could mean that he’s just putting it out there, or it could mean he was actually under consideration.  I tend to think that there is a real possibility of Greg being on the show, if not this season, then the next.  Mainly because, as I’ve said before, they had him do a cameo last seasons – that strengthens the possibility in my eyes.

Since I was doing this for the rumored females….potential partner? Well, Greg is 49, an Olympian and 5’9″ tall.  I’m going to say Karina, Cheryl or MAYBE Edyta.

Louie Vito Makes US Olympic Snowboard Halfpipe Team

Dancing with the Stars’ own Louie Vito just made the US Olympic Snowboard Halfpipe team. Congrats to Louie. Here’s a part of the news from his website:

Louie Vito has qualified for the US Olympic Snowboard Halfpipe Team on January 23rd in Park City, UT. Vito finished with 800 points on the season after having secured two 2nd place finishes at the Copper and Mammoth Grand Prix stops.

“When I get to Vancouver, I want it to be an experience and really take it all in”, said Vito of his Olympic opportunity. “You know, it’s a once in a lifetime chance and I want to do well and put down a good run, but I just really want to take it all in and enjoy it, and have fun.”

Too bad this Olympic fame wasn’t before Dancing with the Stars. Would have gotten him some more votes. I can’t wait to see him represent the US in the Olympics.

Paula Abdul on DWTS Season 10 – Addendum

I’ve seen a number of different possible scenarios for Paula on Season 10, in addition to the possibility of her competing. The way that TMZ worded their article, I assumed they wanted her as a contestant. However, I’ve seen some assume she would be on as a Judge. I’ve also, since Sam quit, seen quite a few people state that it seems obvious that Paula would take Sam’s place – including Annie Barrett from Entertainment Weekly (via Twitter).

What is the likelihood of either scenario?? Well, considering that Paula was supposedly offered 1 million dollars, I have to believe that it’s either for competing or judging and that if it’s judging it’s one season only. Paula made many times that on American Idol, so she doesn’t need the work, plus that number seems too low!! Additionally, I have to think that hosting with Tom Bergeron would be a step down, in her mind, from judging on American Idol (and possibly, now, X-Factor). Also, since one million dollars is far above what I’ve heard the most popular celebs have made on that show, I’m starting to lean towards her being the fourth judge. Since the British version of DWTS has four judges on a regular basis, this isn’t out of the question. She would definitely add a different judging element to the show and, frankly, she’s every bit as qualified as Carrie Ann and Bruno, maybe more so. That’s why I’m so opposed to her being a contestant. I think I actually wouldn’t mind seeing her on as a fourth judge. AND, a fourth judge would mean less filler on a two hour performance show when only 12 couples are dancing.

So…contestant, judge or host? Your vote? Mine is for judge, definitely not for either contestant or host. Tom is awesome enough – add in Drew or maybe Brooke Burke. Heck, even Melissa Rycroft!

Samantha Harris Leaves Dancing with the Stars

The news was just announced that Samantha Harris will not be back as host of Dancing with the Stars 2010. People reports that she’s leaving the show as her work on The Insider has increased along with working at Entertainment Tonight Weekend.

People also reported this quote from DWTS co-host Tom Bergeron, “Still, if Bergeron has his way, he will try to get Harris to return to the ballroom. “I’ve been known to try to twist arms behind the scenes,” he says. “I’m hoping this frees her up for us to have her as a contestant.””

I don’t believe Tom when he says that he will try to twist arms to get her back. Although, maybe he likes having Samantha make him look good. If you’ve read this blog for any time, you know that I’m not a fan of Samantha Harris at all. She’s nice on the eyes, but otherwise was a bad fit for me. I’ve certainly learned in the past that change isn’t always better. However, I think Dancing with the Stars has a good chance that this change will be better.

No hard feelings towards Samantha. I don’t mind her on the entertainment shows and I also wouldn’t mind her coming back to dance on DWTS at some point. Best of luck to her in her future endeavors.

Now to think about who might replace her.

Dancing with the Stars All Stars

Heidi’s been doing an amazing job as usual finding all the leaks as to who will be the cast on Dancing with the Stars 2010. I find the most recent rumor of Paula Abdul on Dancing with the Stars especially interesting.

While we wait to find out the official DWTS 2010 cast, I was thinking about what could make the show REALLY exciting. Plus, I think I was influenced by the Survivor 20: Heroes vs Villains where they’re brining back a bunch of old contestants. Similar to that, what if Dancing with the Stars did a special season called Dancing with the Stars All Stars?

Of course, the hard part of doing a Dancing with the Stars All Stars would be selecting the stars to return to the show. Here’s the list of celebrities I’d be interested in seeing back on the show (in no particular order):

Donny Osmond – Better bring the ringer back so that he can compete against all the other ringers. Then, it would be really interesting.

Mya – I’d like to see her dance with someone besides Dmitry. I might change my mind about her then.

Shawn Johnson – Maybe it would be even more fun with her if we gave her 10 years to actually grow up. However, seeing her fan base against a Donny Osmond fan base would be interesting.

Ty Murray – I know I should have Gilles here, but I’m not a huge fan. I’d rather see Ty dance again. He’s just so lovable.

Brooke Burke – Let’s partner her with someone other than Derek and see how she does. She had such a natural ability to dance. I’m pretty sure she’d look great regardless of partner.

Lance Bass – I really enjoyed the effect he had on Lacey. Lacey was more exciting with Lance as a partner. I think Lance would have a similar effect on some of our other favorite female DWTS pros.

Kristi Yamaguchi – I wonder if there are more ice skating fans or gymnastic fans. This would be interesting to find out. My bets on Kristi as cute as Shawn is.

Mel B – She was great on DWTS and I’d love to see her again. Her and Maks were great, but I think Mel B would be entertaining with almost any partner. Well, except maybe the stone faced Dmitry or Alec.

Sabrina Bryan – I’d like to see her get another shot. I bet her fans would go crazy voting for her if they had another chance.

Apolo Anton Ohno – It would be odd to see him dancing with anyone, but Julianne. In fact, a whole group of fans would likely revolt. However, Apolo would be fun to watch again on DWTS.

Emmitt Smith – Emmitt was just downright smooth. I’m not sure about how he did technically, but he definitely had a gift for making his movement look silky and smooth. It was amazing to watch.

Mario Lopez – Him and Karina were great together and it would be weird to see him with another pro. However, imagine Mario dancing with Ashly DelGrosso (who they’d have to bring back as well). That would be nice to watch.

Joey Lawrence – I loved all of the top 3 from this season. Edyta definitely made Joey look good. I think a part of me sees Joey as a skinny nerdy kid dancing with someone as beautiful as Edyta and that makes me happy.

Drew Lachey – I don’t remember many standouts from season 3, but I did see Drew on tour and he was a good dancer.

Kelly Monaco – The first season barely even counts, but Kelly was the first to win and deserves to be on a DWTS with some actual competition.

Can you imagine a season of Dancing with the Stars with even half of these dancers? You’d barely have any idea each week who was going home. Plus, the dancing would be to such an amazing level. Every dance would be a pleasure to watch. I’m sure the judges would get a little crabby and anal about little things, but we could deal with that for the chance to see these people again.

Ok, so it probably won’t happen, but it’s fun to think about a Dancing with the Stars All Stars, no? Who would you include in your All Star cast and why?

Dancing with the Stars Season 10 Cast “Rumor” – Paula Abdul

Just when I was complaining that there were no good rumors out there, TMZ provides Paula. It’s like they were waiting for me to complain. Anyway, TMZ claims that Paula was offered a 1 million dollar development deal with ABC provided that she does season 10 of DWTS. Not sure how I feel about bribery. In any case, rumors about Paula have been around for a while now so this feels more credible than many of the rumors I come across. Plus, it’s TMZ – they get it right often. Not always, but often.

According to the proposed deal, ABC would allow Paula to do “The X Factor” with Simon Cowell. We’re told Simon and Paula met a week ago to discuss the show, and it looks like it will happen.

Paula has to make a quick decision — we’re told the ABC offer is contingent on Paula doing “DWTS” this season, which starts in March

Paula Abdul leaves CNN studios after raising money for victims of the Haitain earthquake on a special 2 hour episode of Larry King Live

She’s tiny and she’s a ringer. Which means, she’ll dance with Mark Ballas. Because he always gets the tiny ringers. 🙂 And, after the Idol brouhaha, her ringer status is probably MASSIVE. I can see it now, Derek with LaToya (who everyone will say no one will vote for) and Mark with Paula – who EVERYONE will vote for. The producers have been saying they want to mix it up because the pro pairings are too predictable (wonder where they got that idea 🙂 ) – they would see this as unpredictable because both women are so much older than the two youngest male pros. But they would be WRONG. You heard it here first. That’s MY prediction. The only wrinkle is Dmitry – he gets ringers too, but he may be too tall.

DWTS Season 10 Gossip, Another Celeb Aspires to Compete – Ross Mathews!

Just now on Twitter someone asked Ross if he would want to compete on DWTS and he said he would LOVE to be on the show. One of the reasons I’m reporting this is because there has been a dearth of actual rumors for the cast so far! What the heck?? Anyone got a good rumor that you can prove is an actual rumor? By that I mean – you got links? 🙂 Ya gotta prove it. Like this:

Ross may look very familiar to you if you are a late night television person. He used to be known as “Ross the Intern” on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno (in it’s original incarnation). Just the other day he was working the red carpet for E! at the SAG awards. Nowadays, Ross has lots and lots of stuff going on – Ross Mathews Wiki.

Frankly, I think he would be a BLAST on DWTS.  Bring him on. 🙂

Dancing with the Stars Work Out DVD’s

I’d been noticing that the professionals from Dancing with the Stars had been coming out with a number of different work out DVDs. In fact, a ton of Dancing with the Stars workout DVDs.

First is one of the most recently launched DWTS work out DVD’s by Julianne Hough. Ok, she’s probably not allowed to call it a DWTS work out DVD, but that doesn’t mean we can’t call it that right? Officially it’s called: Dance with Julianne: Cardio Ballroom Check out this video with a few clips from the Julianne Hough work out DVD:

Next up is a couple workout DVDs with Lacey Schwimmer, Dmitry Chaplin and Kym Johnson:
Dancing with the Stars: Dance Off the Pounds
Dancing with the Stars: Dance Body Tone
Check out this pretty funny video of Lacey and Dmitry talking about the DWTS work out DVDs:

This year, Cheryl Burke also came out with her own DVD called: Cheryl Burke Presents Disco Abs (3 DVD). Check out this video preview of Cheryl’s work out DVD:

2 Dancing with the Stars DVDs that were released in 2008 were:Dancing with the Stars: Latin Cardio Dance– With Cheryl and Maks and Lisa Rinna: Dance Body Beautiful: Jive, Jump, Ballroom Bump– which is actually with Lisa Rinna who fell in love with dancing on Dancing with the Stars.

In 2007, Alec Mazo and Edyta Sliwinska released a DVD called: Fitness with the Pros

In 2006, it seems like the first Dancing with the Stars work out DVD was done by Ashly, Kym and Maks and was called: Dancing With the Stars – Cardio Dance

There you go. That’s all of the DWTS work out DVDs I can find. I think that’s enough for now honestly. However, I can’t help but wonder if most men don’t prefer watching them work out on the video more than they actually work out. Ok, enough of that;-) Let everyone know what you think of the various DVDs so people know what to expect from them.

Dancing with the Stars Season 10 – Rumors and Changes

Well, this rumor sounds legit and NOT all at the same time. 🙂 From Cincinnati.com:

Will Chad Ochocinco be “Dancing with the Stars” on the show’s 10th season premiere March 22?

The Bengals receiver, who loves dancing in the end zone, is available to ABC since his season ended last weekend.

Football player turned Hollywood video director Matthew Cherry – who was cut by the Bengals during training camp in 2005 – sent a Twitter message last fall saying a “DWTS” producer asked about Ochocinco being on the show.

Not much has been said since Cherry tweeted: “I used to warm the bench for (Ochocinco) back in training camp of ’05 w/the Bengals. I guess that’s why they asked me about him for DWTS … I hope it works out.”

Since they were talking about last season, I might be inclined to say all bets were off. But we’ve watched this show long enough to know that not making it on one season does NOT preclude making it on another. And who is Chad Ochocinco? A wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, as far as I can tell. 🙂

New York Jets v Cincinnati Bengals - Wild Card Round

That’s the rumor. The changes? Well, that’s kind of a bit of crap on the part of ABC. They change this show EVERY season. Every single one has been different from the one that came before. So part of me says, “Puh-lease” with all the talk of changes. Anyway, from BuddyTV:

For one, there’ll be fewer couples when Dancing with the Stars returns on March 22. ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson himself said he likes airing two cycles of the show each year, but 16 couples in one season was just too much. Hence, Dancing with the Stars season 10 will be limited to 11 to 12 couples tops.

I think that’s a return to the past more than it is a “change” but po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to. They go on to say:

Another change they’re introducing: the first couple will be eliminated after the second episode, giving chance for everyone to adapt to performing in front of everyone on live television. The cut will be based on the judges’ scores in addition to votes from the public for the first two episodes.

This they’ve done before too, haven’t they? I seem to recall at least one season where they followed this format, but maybe I’m losing it. 🙂 I’m sure someone will tell me the answer in the comments. Or they’ll tell me I’m crazy. 🙂

DWTS Season 10 – “Scaled Back”

Well, these guys learn from their mistakes, it appears.  From Access Hollywood:

ABC announced on Tuesday that the dancing reality competition would return to the small screen with a two-hour season premiere on Monday March 22.

ABC Entertainment Group President Stephen McPherson told reporters at the Television Critics Association panel for the network on Tuesday that the show would be scaled back upon its return.

He told reporters the show would feature fewer celebrity contestants this time around as there were too many last season.

“We had some lucky breaks [with] people dropping out the last time,” he added.

While I think it’s fantastic that they’re cutting the cast, that also means that four or five (likely four) pros will not have a job come February 22 or so. If you were to bet, which pros don’t make a return?? I will guess Anna D., Anna T., Jonathan and Alec. Once upon a time I would have said Louis, but not after last season. That said, a lot is contingent on the celebs – if they get too many tall women, then Louis might not be around. If they get a really tall guy, Anna D. might have a job after all – if she does, which female is in trouble?

We also have to keep in mind that we don’t know which pros are still under contract – what if (god forbid) Derek, Mark and Maks all decide to move on? They all seem to be pretty active doing other things. I think the women are a bit more likely to stick around, but Cheryl seems to be building a nice empire. However, the success of her empire seems like it would be more guaranteed by her appearance on DWTS.

The Futon Critic has a copy of the official ABC press release (Thanks to Jennifer in the comments for pointing it out):
