Dancing with the Stars Season 10 – Rumor Roundup
….and a couple new rumors as well. The big one that I just saw today, that requires a bathtub of salt, is Jonathan Frakes from Star Trek will be on this season. This is a random twitter rumor – if it solidifies more, I’ll let you all know. ๐
Okay, that was quick – this rumor about Jonathan Frakes seems to originate from a DWTS Blog and also included Genie Francis. It’s third or fourth person so…not likely. But hey, I do well on getting the cast right because I report EVERYTHING I hear. ๐
Regular readers of this blog know we post all the gossip we hear about the new casts of DWTS each season. Every season there are people we hear solid (and not so solid) rumors about. The thing about this show is that often someone is rumored before one season yet shows up on a later season. So we thought it would be a good idea to recap rumors we heard a while ago that haven’t panned out yet. Just revisit them and see if they still seem likely. So, here we go!
Bethany Frankel – from Real Houswives. I’m thinking no right now. Never heard anything about her other than the initial interview where she said she would love to do it.
Suge Knight – still possible, IMO. Seems like something the producers would pull.
Danny Gokey – former AI contestant. ย I’m thinking no, although it’s more likely this season than last since I don’t know how much post-Idol success he’s had.
Erin Andrews – ESPN Reporter and one of John’s favorites. ๐ She was rumored a long time ago for 2010. ย I don’t know if this one is still possible, if she is still interested in doing it.
Kurt Angle – TNA Superstar, it seemed fairly solid that Kurt was at least contacted about DWTS. What the end result of that was, who knows?
Dominique Moceanu – Olympian that was photographed with Tony Dovolani. ย Simple fan photo? Or something more?
Vera Wang – the wedding dress designer rumor came from Marc Malkin from E! so I tend to give it a bit more weight than your average rumor. ย I could be wrong and Marc could get his info the same place I do – Twitter. ๐ That said – that rumor got kinda solid as we reported on June 17, 2009.
Lou Ferrigno – Lou was seriously blowing his own horn on this. He said he was in the running. Now, did his spilling the beans kill his chances, or did it just not work out for last season? ย I believe he was also the one who got really pissed off when he wasn’t picked, so maybe that ruined his chances.
Okay, that’s all for right now! ย There are a LOT more, so I”ll continue tomorrow in part II. I also have to continue my SCD versus DWTS series – I haven’t forgotten. You’ve been warned. ๐
Great list Heidi!! And you’re right that I’d love to see Erin Andrews on there. However, after the Erin Andrews peep hole incident I’m not sure if DWTS would want her on the show or even more likely she would want to be in such public scrutiny so soon after the ordeal. Imagine the jokes Tom could come up with for her. Not to mention if they ever did a roast again. That would be interesting.
A perfect example of why this list is interesting is because Donny was rumored to be on the show before and couldn’t because of some conflict. However, as we all know he was finally on last season.
Hi Heidi. I’m the source of the Jonathan Frakes and Genie Francis rumor. It was in the PRINT edition of Soap Opera Digest (I couldn’t find it online!), and basically said Tom Bergeron had suggested the couple to the producers at some point.
I would be shocked if they appeared but there’s a good chance they have been thought about.
And I agree with John – Donny, Melissa Joan Hart and Ty Murray were all rumored about in seasons before they actually appeared.
Dominique Moceanu was asked to do the show but wasn’t ready. She said so herself.
Vera Wang was asked to do the show but they wouldn’t let her design her own costumes or something like that. She said so herself.
Designer Betsey Johnson was asked to do the show, but didn’t want to move to LA.
Hey, things change – you never know who will show up on the show, regardless of what was said many months ago! These are human beings we’re talking about – all humans have a tendency to change their minds, or get “ready”.
Sheesh, I left a few things out of that post that I meant to add and got interrupted – which made me forget. ๐ I meant to mention that you (or someone you know) had read it in Soap Opera Digest – it’s not SOD or you that make it unlikely – it’s that I don’t think Tom Bergeron’s recommendation likely carries much weight, as much as I love him. ๐ I actually think that both people are pretty good recommendations though – but would THEY do it? That’s always part of the equation that we forget. Like the Crystal Chappel campaign that is going on, for example. Has she said she wants to do it? Beats me, but you have to convince her before you work on the Producers.
I lost my original response to John. Sheesh. Anyway – there is no way the producers of this show would not have Erin on because of what happened – not only was she the VICTIM, but the producers have had lots of people with very sketchy records on the show happily, not the least of which is Tom Delay. The question is Erin herself – would she want to do it after what happened? Maybe not right away, but like I was telling Jennifer, people change their minds, circumstances change, etc etc.
