I have to agree with Heidi the money for exchange of hosting, competing or judging… it’s daffy!

There was a rumor Brooke Burke was put in the same position for the two past seasons. So it could be a relavent theory she may only be a judge for 1 or 2 weeks…

If they had her cheoreograph a group dance it could explain the low sum

Paula knows more about dancing than anyone. She would be an awesome addition to the show. She would be great as a judge and she would also be great as a contestant. Plus, a huge ratings boost is guaranteed if Paula join. DWTS has nothing to lose if she joins, they will gain for viewers.

Sorry, I do not want to see Paula on DWTS. Let’s remember this is ballroom dancing, not Fame the TV show. She is also incoherent most of the time and that simply is not entertaining nor is it good judging. She has a name that evidently the producers think will draw in viewers – I disagree. Many fans will be turned off when she opens her mouth. As for being a contestant, even though there have been several ringers, they were supposedly trying to get stars without a lot of professional dance background. Otherwise, what’s the point to match people who haven’t danced professionally against someone like Paula, who has danced and choreographed? Paula is just a big steaming bowl of “not good” for DWTS. While she may be interesting she will destroy the show.

So she would be making even more money for DWTS than a million – the million is still contingent on her appearing on the show – if TMZ is correct. No matter how you stack it up – Appearing on DWTS = 1 million dollars.

Of course the best dancer doesn’t always win – but as we’ve discussed on this site before, hugely popular people are also ringers of a sort. I think Paula is probably more popular than she is talented. You only have to watch the twitter reaction to get that feeling. There was as much “yay for Paula on DWTS” as there was “Oh no, not Paula on DWTS”. Speaking of Twitter, I actually felt sorry for Samantha yesterday – that was perceived almost totally as good news.

The $1million is to develop some other show on ABC. She will get an additional sum of money to appear on DWTS. I personally would love to see her dance, because she is a great dancer. They could stack the field with other strong dancers/skaters/ etc if that made it seem more fair to people. But the fact is very often the best dancer doesn’t win anyway. It’s more of a popularity contest.

Whether it’s for development or cold hard cash, it’s still 1 million dollars to appear on the show – the 1 million for development, if TMZ is correct, is contingent on her appearing on the upcoming season. That means, in essence, they are giving her a million dollars for appearing on the show. If the money goes toward development is really irrelevant. For Paula Abdul, who appeared on American Idol for how many years and for how many millions? That’s chump change. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes. So I’m starting to wonder just what this appearance entails.

Some thoughts.

The $1M is for “development”. I think that means they work together to see what projects can be developed together. I don’t think it’s $1m just to appear on DWTS.

Yes, she is as qualified as Carrie Ann (and possibly Bruno), so why do we need another judge that doesn’t have ballroom experience?

If she appeared as a host (and they could redefine the role) it would probably only be for one season which doesn’t really seem worth it to me.

Overall I think this has huge potential for a disaster. That’s why I love this show!

I wouldn’t mind seeing her doing either one. She would make a great judge of course but I would love to watch her dance. The fact that she is 47 and has a big old titanium rod in her neck evens out the fact that she is a dancer. Seriously if Kristi Yamaguchi can be a contestant then that pretty much opens the door to anyone. I skated for years and we spent as much if not more time in dance class than we did on the ice. Ice time cost major money.
