Paula Abdul on DWTS Season 10 – The Mystery Continues

Well, I feel like Paula might have clarified one thing in this recent interview – she won’t be a*contestant* on DWTS.  She could, however, be a judge.  But she’s kind of her usual incomprehensible self in this interview – you be the judge of what it is she’s trying to say.  From USA Today:

When asked to give a clue as to her next project, she said, “Drop a clue? Oh, I’m gonna be going back to my roots and doing a TV show that has something to do with my roots,” she said this morning on the morning radio program, afterdodging several questionsasking her to confirm rumors that she’ll be reunited with Simon Cowell on his new X Factor show.

“I’m going back to doing some teaching on television in that kind of capacity,” she added. “And what else can I tell you? I might be doing something with the Laker Girls.”

Of course, they’re asking specifically about X-Factor, but neither X-factor nor DWTS includes her “teaching” in an area that goes back to her “roots”. At least, not in my opinion. To me, her “roots” are in DANCE, not singing. The British version of X-Factor has that “mentoring” aspect where each judge mentors a singer – but I just don’t think that is her roots. DWTS would be her roots – but there is no teaching capacity on DWTS for her except as a pro….and I’m sorry that would be the last straw, IMO. In case you wonder why were talking about DWTS as a possibility, I direct you to my previous posts on the subject:

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 10 – The Co-Host Plot Thickens

:-)  My head is starting to spin.  But in any case, these “rumors” are from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Lynn Hoffman, via Twitter (read from the bottom up for those unfamiliar with tweeting):

Now, some of that sounds like wishful thinking on the part of Lynn’s fans, and based on a poll at BuddyTV.com. However, Lynn’s responses, the second from the top in particular, make it sound like she’s really in the running! Or she thinks she is anyway. I’m not familiar with Lynn at all – is this a good thing or a bad thing? Fill me in people!

I have no objection at all to a relative unknown (relative to the other rumored contenders) taking the job – it might actually be a good idea.

DWTS Season 10 – Additional Rumors on the Co-Host Slot

It seems E! News has changed it’s tune (or DWTS did) on the remaining candidates for Sam Harris’ job:

E! News has learned that ABC has only three serious contenders to replace the departing Samantha Harris: Melissa Rycroft, Brooke Burke and Vanessa Minnillo.

“They’re only testing those three on camera for now,” a production insider tells E! News. “The testing will happen some time next week.”

If it’s down to those three, I would have to choose Brooke first, Vanessa second and Melissa third. I like all three women, but I think Brooke is likely the best. Vanessa does have a good bit of experience too though.  Still, do you believe this report or the report from Marc Malkin (E!) reported yesterday, that it was Nancy O’Dell and Ashlan Gorse in the running?  Perhaps all five ladies were in the running and this is the final three. Who knows?

Who’s in the Running to Replace Samantha Harris on DWTS 10??

Well, according to one of my favorite guys, Marc Malkin of E! News, he’s heard of two possibilities, one of which I hadn’t heard before. :-)

Sources tell me that one candidate happens to be my E! pal Ashlan Gorse. She’s not commenting (and no, she’s not one of my sources!), but just like Harris did for several years, Gorse would likely do double duty at E! News and DWTS.

Before landing at E! News as a correspondent and fill-in anchor, Gorse was the host of E! News Now.

I’m also hearing that former Access Hollywood anchor Nancy O’Dell is up for the highly-coveted job. As you may remember, O’Dell was a contestant in season nine of Dancing, but had to drop out before the competition even began because of a knee injury she suffered during training.

Dancing with the Stars Curse

We’ve written a number of times in the past about Dancing with the Stars having so many injuries. Some people speculated it was some sort of curse on Dancing with the Stars or something crazy. That’s really crazy talk to me. Dancing is very physical and so injuries are just a part of the environment. Especially when we’re talking about people who don’t dance, dancing this much.

Maybe the curse isn’t injuries, but is instead legal problems after being on the show. This past week it was reported that both Michael Irvin and Warren Sapp were having legal troubles. A woman is claiming that Michael Irvin raped her 2 years ago in a Florida hotel room. Her suit against him is amazingly timed during the circus that is the Super Bowl. Michael has countersued the woman saying that he lost his job as an announcer with ESPN radio because of the false accusations. Here’s some details from Michael’s side:

In his complaint, Irvin claims Mustafa “signed not one (1) but two (2) waivers of prosecution,” on July 21, 2007, “the day after opening a file with the Police Department.”
He claims, “The Seminole Police Department found Mustafa’s claims un-credible and stopped actively investigating the file over two (2) years ago.”
Irvin claims Mustafa “decided to take another shot” at him “(a)fter seeing Irvin’s success on Dancing with the Stars and his new show Fourth and Long.”
The complaint states, “It is typical for fame-seekers to attack celebrities of Irvin’s stature to try and make a quick buck. …

Warren Sapp was charged with domestic battery in South Florida and was not part of the NFL network’s Super Bowl coverage as an analyst because of the charge. Here’s the allegations against Sapp:

The victim had a swollen knee and bruises on her neck, according to an arrest affidavit. She told detectives that she was partying with Sapp and her friends at the hotel and asked for his room key when she grew tired. Sapp reportedly woke up the victim a few hours later and they started to argue. She told investigators that Sapp started to choke her and pushed her down on a couch.

As the argument escalated, Sapp grabbed the woman by her shirt and neck and threw her down again, the affidavit states.

Sapp told investigators that he let the woman stay in his room but asked her to leave a few hours later. He told police that the woman fell on her leg when he tried to help her get off a couch.

It’s hard to make a judgement against either person since we don’t know all the facts. No doubt Michael Irvin is known as a ladies man. I’ve heard him talk a few times about parties back in his Cowboys days and the number of women they’d have there. However, that doesn’t mean he raped this girl. It’s also not hard to see a 300 lb Sapp with a little alcohol doing something and not even realizing it. It’s too bad for both individuals since they were such high class celebrities on DWTS. I’m sure this will all work itself out in the courts.

This isn’t the first time a past DWTS celebrity has had trouble with the law. You might remember that Helio Castroneves was charged with tax evasion He was later acquitted on 6 counts of tax evasion, but was hung on one count of conspiracy.

DWTS Season 10 Rumor Round Up – Three Weeks to the Announcement!

So I was talking to John last night – or should I say, lamenting – the complete paucity of blabber mouthed celebs this season. It sucks, quite frankly. Last season at this time I had reported on a significant number of people who had spilled the beans via Twitter (Kelly Osbourne, Debi Mazar, to name two). It seems that, excepting Jason Chambers and Chad Ochocinco (although that was his friends, not him), there is very little to report from Twitter – and I have to think that perhaps the DWTS peeps had wised up about the whole Twitter thing, telling potential stars to SHUT IT. :-) So, because we’re less than three weeks out, I thought it was time for a little review of what HAS been rumored and reported on, either here or elsewhere.  I’ll discuss them by the categories I mentally put them in:

The Real Rumors with Real Potential Category

Most recently, the two big rumors have been Pam Anderson and John Stamos. Pam was outed as a potential by RadarOnline, and Karina Smirnoff claims that John was asked for a previous season and had to decline due to his Broadway commitments. I find it highly amusing that she’s putting in a claim on him just in case he changes his mind. :-) But, for some reason, I’m not inclined to believe this one will happen – assuming Karina is correct. I just consider John Stamos to be “too big” of a star to actually consider the show. Although it’s possible he could have been asked, I suppose. But I don’t see it happening. Pam Anderson? That one sure sounds likely and I haven’t seen anyone report that Pam denied it.

I guess that the Jennifer Grey rumor goes in this category. I think. Page Six reported that she was in negotiations way back in December but I’ve not heard much about it since then. Very well could be true – we find out in three weeks.

There are a couple of rumors that go here, but not necessarily for DANCING.  Paula Abdul (judge or dancer?), Marie Osmond (shudder – potential new co-host) and Nancy O’Dell (potential new co-host).  I think the Marie thing is more speculation than actual rumor. Billy Bush reported that there were 5 candidates remaining for the co-host job and that he was REALLY rooting for one in particular. That says Nancy O’Dell to me. The Marie thing was, I think, people taking his words and speculating. I HOPE.  And who the heck knows what is going on with Paula Abdul. :-)

The Blabbermouth Celebrity Category

Jason Chambers is kinda lonely in this category, this season. :-) He straight up said he had meetings with DWTS producers, as I discussed in a post back on February 1, 2010.  Because he blabbed, he may have blown his chance. The woman in me hopes like hell he hasn’t. ;-)  Chad Ochocinco, on the other hand, was outed by a former team mate as being a possibility for last season. As I said before, celebs rumored for one season often show up on later seasons.  Interestingly enough, I did see some twitter chatter that said Chad was going to LA this week – the speculation by these people was that his trip was related to DWTS.  I guess we’ll see.  And I almost forgot – Dirt Nasty (aka Simon Rex)!  He claims he met with the producers back in early January.  Did I read that this guy now does porn, or did I imagine that?

The PLEASE PUT ME ON DWTS Category

This is a surprisingly large category. :-)  I’ll just make a list of the ones I’m aware of, starting with the oldest one (from late 2009)
Flight Time (aka Herbert Lang) of the Harlem Globetrotters by way of The Amazing Race
Jermaine Dupre
Kate Gosslin
Danielle Fishel
Ross Mathews
Greg Louganis (who could also fit in the category below)
– Kevin Federine – this one is per Ryan Seacrest on his radio show this morning.  It seems I’ve heard this one before, but maybe I’m confusing him with someone else.
– Candace Cameron Bure – I think we can safely put her in this category based on what I posted here.

That’s all I could find right now. I’m sure someone will pop in (with links) to remind me of others who want to be on the show. :-)

And finally….
The “We’ve Heard This one Before” Category

Back on January 4th, I wrote a couple posts detailing rumors from previous seasons. The intent was to keep track of previous rumors to see if any of them came true for Season 10. Those posts were also titled Rumor Round Up and Rumor Round Up Part II – I’m not going to list all that again, so if you’re curious, click!!  Kurt Angle, Bethany Frankel and Vera Wang are the only ones I’ve heard any followup on recently.  It’s all speculation on the part of views, as I recall, so I won’t detail it here.

DWTS Season 10 – Gossip and Innuendo

Was someone mentioning Candace Cameron Bure? Ah yes, she’s the one who’s been “speculated” or “wished for” on DWTS for a few seasons now. Where the speculation came from – her or her fans – I don’t remember. And I don’t really care. :-) But according to her, it ain’t happening. I would suggest she’s lying at the direction of producers, but since she is very religious – well, she best not be.

Okay, this exchange, below, scares me more than LaToya and Pam Anderson combined. Please, God, NO. Please. I don’t ask for much, but I cannot tolerate Marie Osmond. I came to like Donny very much – but save me from Marie, please. To say I disliked her when she was a contestant on DWTS is putting it mildly. And if the dude below ends up being right, I will curse all you Sam Harris haters for making the show WORSE. :-) You know what they say…better the enemy you know. lol

You all know who Billy Bush is – he’s a radio and TV Host. R.J. Johnson, according to his twitter page, is a TV producer/writer in LA. He could be full of crap, he could be right – I’m just reporting the conversation. I want to share my fear. ;-)

DWTS Season 10 – Pamela Anderson? Seriously?

It’s so bizarre it’s probably true. I’ll try to remain positive and not make any predictable and cliche comments (aka Boob Jokes). I’ve seen Pam in person and she’s very tiny…from the waist down. :-) Well, that lasted a long time. Heh.

Well, I have to confess that I only know the stereotyped Pam Anderson. Maybe she’ll be cool. Derek told Brooke to keep her chest off his in the quickstep – how do you think he’d react to Pam Anderson? LOL. Anyway, since I can’t talk about this without being negative and/or dirty, I’ll just report what Radar Online has to say:

Exclusive: Pam Anderson heading to Dancing with the Stars

Pam Anderson has signed to be on the next season of ABC’s hit Dancing With the Stars, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

In a move that’s sure to boost the male viewing audience [ed. that's what they all say], Pam and the show have agreed to all terms for a deal and the deal is done, a source told RadarOnline.com.

Lord help me.

DWTS Season 10 Rumors – Things that Make You Go Hmmm

The thing that’s making me go “Hmmmm….” right now is this:

My question is – if it’s something she’s getting ready to work on, why wouldn’t SHE announce it…unless it’s seriously in the entertainment business. You know how they like to announce their own stuff. :-) Anyway, there’s been a lot of pushing around the ‘net for Melissa to take Samantha’s place on DWTS since Samantha left DWTS. This pushing has been by Melissa fans, of course, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. I even sort of jokingly suggested it myself in a previous post! IF…and it’s a BIG IF because I don’t think that the producers pay that much attention to fans (because LOTS of celebs have huge fanbases, frankly)…if DWTS is Melissa’s announcement, what do you think of it? Is there something else Melissa has been rumored for and I’ve missed it? I read her twitter page back several days and I didn’t see anything.

Whatever is going on, I wish Melissa tons of success. I don’t think I would actually have an issue with her taking Samantha’s place. She’d do better than Sam and Paula combined (although that bar is set pretty low :-) ).

Don’t anyone freak out – I could be TOTALLY off base on this speculation.

Dancing with the Stars Battle of the Worst

I previously posted about having a Dancing with the Stars All Stars. I still think that would be an amazing season of Dancing with the Stars. All the amazing dancers strutting their stuff. Well, as I was listing all of the celebrities I’d like to see on DWTS, I also thought about how funny it would be to have a DWTS battle of the worst.

Ok, I’m not sure I really want to watch a full season of it. Maybe just an episode or two combined with the All Stars or something. Plus, I don’t know if the winner is the best of the worst or if being named the worst is the one that should get the title. Either way, here’s a list of some of the worst dancers the show’s seen. Many of which I truly would enjoy seeing them on the show again.

Tom Delay – I’m sure that Heidi will kill me for putting him on this list. The funny part is that is exactly why I’d like to see him on the show again…lol

Holly Madison – She’s just too good looking. I don’t really care how she dances.

Steve Wozniak – I’m a nerd and the Woz is an idol for nerds. Plus, he loved the show so much and really gave EVERYTHING that he had on the show. Not to mention that killer worm he did. Plus, I’d like to see him dance with someone other than Karina.

Jeffrey Ross – He was a horrible dancer, but at least he made me laugh. His roasts were a bit over the top for the moment and the show, but I still laughed a lot. Bring him back to make me laugh.

Adam Carolla – He was funny like Jeffrey Ross too. I guess I enjoy the humor. Since they can’t dance at least their humor was entertaining.

Josie Maran – Yes, I have a bias for models, but I also think she should have done better than she did. America shouldn’t have sent her home so early.

Mark Cuban – Another computer guy, but I also loved how fully invested he was in the competition. I loved watching the various ways he tried to get votes and stay on longer.

Paulina Porizkova – With a name like that, she should be back.

Shandi Finnessey – Her and Paulina could have a battle of crazy names.

Tucker Carlson – He was just terrible. A list of the worst must include him.

Kenny Mayne – I love when he had girl’s makeup on. Oh yes, and he challenges Tucker for worst dancer I think.

Imagine what a show with all of these dancers would be like? Who else deserves to be on the DWTS Battle of the Worst?
