DWTS 10 Kate & Tony Dance Comparison
After watching “Movie Night” on Dancing with the Stars, I realized that there were several songs used this season that were recycled from previous seasons.
Since this past week Kate Gosselin was eliminated, I decided to post up her “recycled” dances first. Not only Kate & Tony’s dances, but the previous celeb and pro to have danced them…
Below are two dances done to the song She’s Always a Woman by Billy Joel… both done as a Viennese Waltz
Season 6: Marlee Matlin & Fabian Sanchez
Season 10: Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani
The second “recycled song” is I’m Still Standing by Elton John. Both danced as a Jive.
Season 1: Joey McIntyre and Ashly Costa
Season 10: Kate & Tony
Wow, I just noticed that three out of four female costumes were in pink! Anyway, a little trip down memory lane… Until next time! 😀
Geez… that’s a heck of a whole lot of pink. I didn’t really expect that. Ah well. 🙂
Those clips were too painful to finish in their entirety.
Joey McIntyre was much worse than I expected him to be. I thought that they got more weeks to practice pre-show in the early seasons?
I think that only 3 weeks preseason practice before the season premier was insufficient. The shortened practice time resulted in some really horrible early dances. That isn’t fun to watch–at least not for me.
Season 1 was such a weird season – they were still trying to figure out how to translate the show from British television to appeal to US audiences, no one had heard of any of the pros, and they only had 6 contestants that had NO clue what they were getting into. It almost feels like it wasn’t even the same show it is now. I would definitely say it wasn’t the most riveting season of the show – but it was a learning experience, and the show definitely improved from there.
That said, I actually think “I’m Still Standing” worked better for Joey than it did for Kate. Joey may have been messy, but at least he moved. And this was during Ashly’s heyday, when she was a sassy, energetic little firecracker – as opposed to now, where she seems more like a subdued, stressed-out mom.
Inevitably, when the show recycles songs, they’re going to run the risk of people making favorable/unfavorable comparisons to previous performances…I don’t think I fully enjoyed Erin & Maks’ jive to “You Never Can Tell” because Apolo & Julianne had already done it, and I think they did it better. However, Pam’s rumba to “I Can’t Make You Love Me” was miles ahead of Toni Braxton’s. “Valerie” didn’t seem to do any favors for both Jonathan & Marie’s quickstep and Joanna & Derek’s. It’s all over the place!
Whoa… is “Valerie” the first song to be done 3 times on the show?
Mario and Karina did it as a quickstep in season 6 as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unhybQd34jY
Oops! My bad – it was Maria & Karina, not Jonathan & Marie. Thanks for correcting me! 🙂
I can’t recall any song that has been used 3 times on the show, but at the rate they’re dittoing songs now – wouldn’t surprise me if there was eventually a 3-fer.
Er, MARIO. Sorry, used up all my typing accuracy at work this week 😉
ck410 – Come Away With Me by Norah Jones was done three times if you want to include the pro version in a results show. It was also done in Season 1 by Trista & Louis and in Season 4 by Joey & Kym.
Also Espana Cani was done three times as a Paso Doble in Sesons 2, 3, and 4. (Though it IS hard to find good Paso Doble music.)
Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendes was also done three times if you include the junior ballroom dance competition
And I thought that Marie & Jonathan did their second Quickstep to Good Morning from Singing in the Rain? I know their first Quickstep was with Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
What about Louie and Chelsie’s rumba to Total Eclipse of the Heart? In my opinion, it was much better to watch than Drew and Cheryl’s version!
Also, “S.O.S” by Rhianna has been done twice. The first time was Maks and Willa Ford, and then this year it was Derek and Nicole.
