DWTS Season 10, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers
Well, Len is on crack, that is all there is to it. I don’t think he called a single dance right last night. Not a single one. Neither the ones he liked, nor the ones he didn’t like. Let’s recap, shall we?
Len to Jake on his Samba: Showing confidence, performance was polished, forgiving the mis-step, lacking rhythm. Good job, well done.
This is when Jake actually had a mis-step, and Len gives him a 7. Then next is Evan, who easily dances a better Samba than Jake, with hips and everything and doesn’t have a mis-step. Yeah, he was a little off, but there were no glaring errors. And Len?
Len to Evan on his Samba: Worst Dance he’s done, was ballet instead of carnival. (Gee, he tells Nicole too much shimmying – like you would do at Carnival) – Len gives him a 7.
Next up, Niecy with a funny Argentine Tango. What the hell? What is wrong with Louis and his silly themes this season? He was great when he made the one dance about equality, but then the rumba about Niecy’s brother and now the AT that is supposed to be funny? With eating the rose and the cookie, Len should be a bad ass because of those gimmicks, right? Um, no.
Len to Niecy on her Argentine Tango: I liked the comedy. It didn’t interfere with the performance (even Tom questions him). Lacked a bit of intensity, but overall it was good. (WHAT????)
But after all those nice comments from all the judges, they get 7’s. No wonder Maks is pissesd and confused. Next up, Erin. Uh oh. Maks is taking off clothes, Len ain’t going to like this. Why is Maks doing this, particularly after the cracks (jokes??) about Jake being desperate and losing his pants?? Len’s going to pop a blood vessel!
Len on Erin’s Samba: Erin hold my gaze. From week 1 I’ve given you a 7 and tonight I’m giving you another 7 when you should be getting 8’s and 9’s. Show me a proper dance, fed up with shirts coming off , she doesn’t need that, etc. blah blah blah.
Okay, so he did pop a blood vessel and Maks talked back, like a jerk (and normally I find him funny). So, Len gives her a…wait for it…7. This is probably the only dance he came close on tonight even though I thought it was good, but because of the gimmicks crap that he’s given 6s for before. And Nicole didn’t yank Derek’s clothes off and danced as good or better – and still only got a 7.
Okay, so Chad is doing better. He got an 18 last week, he should get a 20 this week based on that dance, right? Especially after how they scored Evan, right? Um, no.
Len on Chad’s Argentine Tango: You either grow or you go. You grew tonight.
Um, what? Yeah, he grew, but by THAT much?? Len gives out his only 8 of the night to CHAD? After seeing Evan dance, he gives Chad an *8*??? And Nicole gets dinged for not doing two of Len’s favorite moves despite doing another killer dance (with *other* Samba moves, just not his favorites), with her actually doing the moves? Speaking of Nicole – cool your jets, girl, Len ain’t ever giving you a 9 again unless he’s on his meds again. Might as well relax.
Len on Nicole’s Samba: For me, difficulty and performance level was great, line at the end was ugly, too much gyrations. You didn’t do my two favorite moves. It’s a hodge podge of sexy moves and gyrations.
Um, hyperbole much Len?? So let me get this straight – the difficulty and performance level were great, but she didn’t do two moves you like so you’re giving her a 7?? In what universe does what Len actually SAY make sense? If he thought it was just gyrating and sexy moves, then why did he say the difficulty and performance level were great?? WTF?? Chad stands there while Cheryl dances around him and he gets an 8?? Crack, I tell you. Crack.
Next up, Pam. Frankly, I thought Pam was excellent. A little hesitant at times, but the best AT of the night, IMO. Easily. What does Len say?
Len on Pam’s AT: The tango is about seduction and you can do seduction very well. You got the flavor of the dance but it was a bit scraggy here and there, but over all a good job.
He gives her a 7, of course. I’m sorry, but I think there is something rotten in Denmark.
Anyway, rant over. For now.
The Math
Here are the Judges Scores:
Dancer/Score
Nicole/36
Erin/34
Chad/31
Pam/30
Evan/27
Niecy/26
Jake/25
Total Judges Points Awarded = 209
So, Evan is in the bottom 3 and Chad is in the top 3? In what universe?? Crack-land, that’s what universe. Erin, I’m thinking she was slightly over scored – or Pam was underscored. Or both. Take your pick.
Dividing the individual scores by the total points awarded gives you the following percentages:
Dancer/Percentage of Total
Nicole/17.22
Erin/16.27
Chad/14.83
Pam/14.35
Evan/12.92
Niecy/12.44
Jake/11.96
I’m going to say that Nicole, Erin, Evan and Chad are safe. After that? Well, I think it’s between Niecy and Jake, since Pam was in the bottom two last week. Who will go?
Dancer/Votes
Evan– No problem, regardless of his score. Question is, WHY did they score him so low. Something is rotten in Denmark? Does he really need more sympathy?? His dance was better than a 21
.
Nicole – I think she and Derek did a great job, don’t know what Len’s problem REALLY is – when you stack Nicole against the other people who got 7’s from Len plus Chad – there’s no comparison. I didn’t have a problem with anything she said in rehearsal, especially not when compared to Maks’ behavior tonight and Erin’s comments in the past. I don’t know why Nicole isn’t allowed the same issues as everyone else.
Erin – I wonder how she’s really doing on votes? Am I the only one (along with Courtney) getting tired of her schtick?? I think she got a strong enough score to be safe, and there are always those HOPELESS romantics out there that will vote for a SHOWmance every time.
Chad – I agree with Courtney. He didn’t really dance much, but Cheryl sure did. Calling him safe, either way.
The next 3 – no clue how the voting is going. The way the “bottom” couple changes from one week to the next makes me think it must be close.
Niecy – Jake- Pam equal too close to call. Pam is the best of the three, easily better than Chad, and equally as good as Erin. But people aren’t voting for her in large enough numbers.
Okay, revisting the bottom four dancers in terms of judges scores, we have:
Pam/14.35
Evan/12.92
Niecy/12.44
Jake/11.96
Forget about Evan. He’s going nowhere. For Pam to go home, fulfilling the bottom two deal from last week, Jake would have to get 24k more votes per 1 million votes cast AND Nicey would have to get 19,200 more votes per 1 million votes cast. Will this happen? Beats the hell out of me. I’m going to say no, both of those things won’t happen. I’m inclined to think that Jake won’t score the 24k more per 1 million. I’m inclined, for that reason, to think Jake is going home. However, it’s entirely possible that other people besides myself thought the humorous AT was actually NOT and decline to vote for Niecy. Nothing will surprise me at this point, actually. Well, I would be shocked if Evan or Nicole or Erin went home – but you never know.
So, my final call is Jake with Niecy as second runner up. I hope like hell my prediction hasn’t doomed Pam.
I hope Pam is not doomed, either – I will be seriously salty if she goes home over Jake or Niecy…or even Chad.
Scoring last night was whack…I’m still flabberghasted. The scores didn’t match the performances, which didn’t match the critiques either. It was like they were chucking darts at dart boards filled with the numbers 1-10 during the break – and the number 7 must have been one of the big chunks on the perimeter of the board that even the worst shot can hit, hehe 😉
I’m wondering if they tried to “mix things up” score-wise tonight to make it seem as though it wasn’t such a “done deal” that Evan was going to win – I’ve noticed more and more media outlets commenting on Evan’s success and how he is quickly becoming the odds-on favorite to win (however, the Vegas oddsmakers are still calling Nicole – and they’re the gold-standard 😉 ) Maybe it had nothing at all to do with how well they were dancing last night…but then again, if they wanted to make it seem like it was “anyone’s game”, you would have thought they would have scored Nicole lower. I seriously don’t know what the judges were drinking/smoking/shooting up last night – but it must’ve been the bad stuff.
I think what bothered me about Nicole’s meltdown last night was that it was just kinda weird – was she seriously bitching about the camera not catching her good side? I honestly wasn’t following that argument at all – it really kinda confused me. We’re 6 weeks into the show, and you’re just NOW getting worried about your camera angles? LOL. I would say it’s not nearly as off-putting as Erin (and Maks’!)consistent whining and bitching to whatever camera will listen, but it was just kind of a “Really? You’re worried about THAT? Girl, you so crazy.” moment. But of course, people are probably going to use it as another reason to dislike Nicole, and cite “righteous indignation” (hehe) as the explanation for Erin & Maks’ undercutting of other contestants.
Definitely think Erin was overscored & Pam was underscored – the former still has weird lines, and the latter did ten times more moving than Chad. No way in hell Erin’s samba was better than Evan’s, or Chad’s tango was better than Pam’s.
I’m a little confused by what “schtick” of Erin’s you’re getting tired of. She didn’t do anything last night but dance the dance that was choreographed for her. She stood there and took the judge’s criticism with no attitude just as she has every week. She did a much better job than Len gave her credit for. If he has a problem with Maks, that shouldn’t be used against Erin!
The judges confused and irked me last night, mostly a certain judge (we all know who ;)). I think they judged Jake correctly and gave a correct score, but they were totally off on Evan, it wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty dang good. Len is obviously smoking crack giving Nicole a 7 just because his cute little moves weren’t in? Get over it Len, a true judge wouldn’t only base their scoring on two moves, they’re not all that great. I actually thought Erin was excellent, her best yet. And Len’s really gonna complain about taking a shirt off….really. Oh silly me I thought judges scores were based on the dancing and improvement, not clothes and TWO out of MANY samba moves. I’ve oddly taken a liking to Erin and Maks is becoming a pro I’m fond of (not as much as Derek of course :P). And Heidi was spot on at questioning Chad’s dance. It was a hell of an improvement…but giving him the highest score….above Nicole, Erin, Evan, and Pam?!! There is perhaps a sub-section of Dancing with the Stars, it’s called Pot-smoking with Len. Even though I ADORE everyone this season, Nicole, Evan, Erin, and Pam have appealed to me the most, they should be in the top 4. Okay, my rant is over haha. Based on last night, I would guess Niecy or Jake’s hitting the road, but you never know. Anybody who leaves thus far though will be missed, eliminations are getting harder and harder to see.
Didn’t Derek dance an entire routine shirtless last season? I don’t really get the crap that Maks is getting for “stripping” and using it as a gimmick (not that it’s all coming from here, I saw some comments about it on Facebook as well). The more shirtless guys, the better. 😀
To your great relief, I’m sure, I’ll no longer come to your misnamed site to learn more about DWTS. Sorry, your Hough bias is simply dripping, and your caustic distaste for Erin Andrews and Maksim C clearly emotional rather than ration.
As one of your leads states, the scoring has been totally whack, especially Lens. The fact that Nicole is on the winning side of that nonsense and Erin has been consistently on the losing side (meh at least) accounts for the anger in Erin’s camp of supporters. If you are true dance commentators, you’d see that. But . . .
I truly and sincerely hope that Nicole The Zinger goes home early so that the rest of the true competitors can have a more honest contest. Cannot stand Nicole’s preening, self-indulgence, and sense of entitlement. Even Derek is calling some of it stupid.
Hey, Court, thanks for keeping me up to date while I’m out of town. Twitter was the only thing I could see during the results show.
Actually, Evan just the other night moved slightly ahead of Nicole in terms of Vegas odds. They were never more than half a point apart and they still aren’t, but now Evan is in the lead. If I was at home, I could show you video. But I’m not. 🙂 Nicole is just an extreme perfectionist, which I can deal with a lot more than the constant little jibes at other dancers that Erin seems to participate in. Even that wouldn’t bother me, if it weren’t for Maks throwing a hissy every week.
Sorry, Bobbianne, you’re right – on the SHOW Erin is fine and much better behaved than her partner is – the problem is, I see nearly ALL the media revolving around the show as part of trying to keep the site up to date. So I see nearly everything Erin says. When combined with her faux (?) arguments with Maks on the show (which are getting tiresome), all that additional media leaves a bit of a negative taste in my mouth. Now, granted, a lot of what she says is snark – and I recognize that. But what I also realize is that there is a lot of real feeling under the snark. She snarks on the other competitors. Now, all these Nicole criticizers – at least Nicole bashes HERSELF and not other people. If people can’t see that distinction, then they aren’t being honest. As soon as Nicole starts making snide remarks about someone other than herself, then we’ll talk.
Oh jeez – I apologize that we don’t all worship at the altar of Maksim Chmerkovskiy like you do, Joanie. I know the idea of anyone having the gall to speak any ill of him is an abomination to you, but alas, he is just like the rest of us, and is not without fault – this week, his behavior was atrocious, and it actually detracted from he & Erin’s performance…I honestly think those two may have gotten the encore this week had it not been for Maks’ outburst. Now for that, I actually do feel bad for Erin. However, she too is not without fault – I’m sure we’ve cited more than a few interviews where she & Maks have taken turns making swipes at other couples. Now THAT is not something a truly talented competitor feels the need to do in order to illustrate their worth. None of the other couples have done it – if you find something to the contrary, please do share.
Go ahead and blindly exhalt Maks to your heart’s content. But don’t for one minute think that you are not guilty of the same bias that you accuse us of having for Derek – at least we can bring ourselves to point out when he & his partner fall short. I challenge you to do the same with Maks.
Yeah, Derek went shirtless – but that was the lambada and it was appropriate for the dance. It is EXPECTED in that dance. BUT, watch Derek after that dance. He hides behind Joanna because he is fully expecting Len to rip him a new one. When Len was complimentary, Derek was actually shocked. That was one of those odd times that Len’s bizarreness worked in Derek’s favor. It usually doesn’t. 🙂
And you know what? I don’t have a problem with any of the guys taking off their shirts (although it’s often kind of a cheap ploy). I don’t even have a problem with limited gimmicks. What I DO have a problem with is that it’s okay for Louis to use silly gimmicks, but it’s not okay for Derek or Maks or Damian. I don’t like that it’s okay for Maks to take shots at Jake for taking off his pants, and then expect to be able to do something similar without criticizm. I don’t like that someone like Maks gets all bent out of shape because he’s called on using gimmick after gimmick after gimmick (and he has to know at this point Len is going to be pissed) when he KNOWS that it’s (mostly) verboten for Len. It’s not the gimmicks themselves that annoy me, but the double standards and the pros not getting what the problem is even after it’s been mentioned many times. It’s all the crap around the gimmicks that are the issue.
All that said, I do understand Maks’ frustration with Len and why he might get well and truly pissed off for being called on stuff that others aren’t called on – I get pissed too.
I absolutely agree with you about Nicole. People keep complaining about her whining all the time, and I don’t see that. Sometimes, yes, she gets super down on herself and says the unfamiliar dance techniques are hard to pick up. Erin does that same thing in her segments, probably even more often than Nicole, and people don’t get all upset about her “whining.” I think both women tend to be perfectionists, and expect a lot out of themselves. It isn’t whining in the sense of making excuses though. They both work hard and seem to give it their all.
I don’t understand all of the Nicole hate. Yes, she can dance. There’s always someone on DWTS who has more natural talent or experience or whatever. Americans LOVE underdogs, and if you don’t have someone really good for the underdog to try to overcome, you don’t have a good story. The best dancer doesn’t generally win DWTS.
I see this sort of hate thing going on with lots of tv shows, and it makes no sense. Why don’t people save hate for something that really matters?
Thank you! I thought I was alone in noticing Erin complaining and whining about getting the moves perfectly. People are all over Nicole and I think a lot of that is projection. She is a ringer, she is on top, she looks like she is full of herself, list goes on. It saddens me that viewers can criticize Nicole for even smiling after getting a 9 (she is smug) but when Erin is upset and wants higher sores, that is just speaking her mind.
Ok i never saw this thread so i guess its ok to still reply? I like Erin and Nicole and i don’t know why people keep comparing them, as i like both(granted i hated Erin at first and kind of liked Nicole at first-personally). Anyways, i think Nicole gets on peoples nerves (apparently) because she is one of the best dancers the show has ever had, the problem is shes a celebrity. I don’t think most people/viewers want to see a practical pro in dancing with the STARS. Nicole is far and away the best dancer this season and it makes her look a little witchy when she, possibly the best dancer ever on the celebrity sideline is complaining, its almost unbelievable/fake. I only saw Maks calling out Jake about the whole “pants” thing…infact i only saw Erin with the deer in the headlights look when Maks first brought it up. Now she did try to lighten the mood after it, i mean what can she do when he already brought it up. She can’t verbally combat him on national tv….for alot of reasons. But if she did then thats different but i think both of them are hated on for alot of things because they are the pretty gals this season. Pretty gals rarely win DWTS…So sad but true. I actually think Erin might have a shot because she is improving the most as of right now 5/4/2010. But who knows, Chad gets high scores for watching Cheryl dance her buns off! I like funny people and Niecy/Erin have become my favs for that! Nicoles not as funny so i don’t absolutely love her the way i do them….but thats personal and can change…heck i hated Erin at first and i don’t even know why.
It’s always okay to reply!!
The thing is, Nicole gets down on herself while Erin and Maks pick on other people. Not just on the show but throughout the media. Look at the video I posted recently with Erin being ugly to George from ABC. She and Maks picked on Jake, they picked on Derek/Nicole for having a showmance (hello, pot, this is Kettle, just calling to let you know you’re BLACK) – pretty hypocritical – and Maks was everywhere saying Len is too old to judge and that he (Maks) has more experience. Spare me. Nicole is very real too, but at least she’s not snarking on other contestants. I hate that. As for Nicole being a celebrity – well, that’s the POINT of the show. Evan is a bigger celebrity than her, and so is Erin for that matter. Erin and Evan both also have dance experience – not quite sure why Nicole gets penalized just because she’s turning out better than them – all three are ringers, not just her. Getting kinda tired of this argument that people have that is just a fallacy – for example, just because Brooke was a better dancer than Lance didn’t make her a ringer. Nicole is a ringer, sure, but so is Evan and, to a lesser extent, Erin – just because she’s the better dancer doesn’t make it unfair. Well, to Erin’s fans it does. 🙂
