DWTS Season 10, Week 8 – Who’s Dancing What?
First things first – sending out thanks and big props to Erin, Maks, Tony and Anna. Their fans apparently asked them to re-tweet Nashville flood information and ways to donate and they did. Thanks, guys, I’m sure the people who were – are – victims appreciate it. Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks are involved, obviously, so thanks to them too. Hope I didn’t miss anyone – those are just the ones I noticed last night.
On with the show…
Okay, what the hell? Last year didn’t they give everyone the same dance (Paso Doble) but just different eras?? Also, this should be the judges “off the meds” week, going by the pattern of the last 2 or 3 weeks. 🙂 So beware. I’ve added videos this week, because this post is shrinking every week. 🙂
Nicole/Derek: Foxtrot and 50’s Era Paso Doble – Well, I thought they were challenging Derek last year with futuristic Paso Doble and he choreographed something that is Emmy-worthy. So, I’m not going to sweat the fact that his MOM wasn’t even born in the 50’s, let alone him or Nicole. His blog (and the video below) did scare me though. 🙂 Foxtrot should be beautiful – maybe Len will finally get real and give her a ten, barring some sort of disaster – such as her dress getting under his “thing” like it did last week. No, I don’t know what she meant when she said that. 🙂
Stop scaring me, Derek!! 🙂
Chad/Cheryl: Tango and 60’s Jive – Oh boy. Jive should be a disaster, but he’s got hope with the Tango. I don’t see any way that Cheryl can do the dancing in the Jive for him like she’s had to do recently, without it being VERY obvious. Is he going to get called on the lack of flicks and kicks, etc? No clean content? Tango? Should be okay, I think.
Chad and Cheryl talk about their dances – Chad is gaining confidence.
Erin/Maks: Argentine Tango and 80’s Rumba – Okay, they say Maks is dressed as Don Johnson in Miami Vice and that Erin is doing Flashdance. How is Miami Vice romantic Rumba-worthy? Am I missing something? I’m wracking my brain. Is this going to be another moment that I don’t understand? In any case, it won’t matter – she’s getting SO much press right now (Kimmel, Leno), plus she was in the bottom two last week, so her fans will be voting maniacs – or they should be. Depending on what Maks has in mind, she will either be excellent or just fine – but like I said, it won’t matter.
Erin and Maks – cover a lot of ground:
Evan/Anna: Waltz and Futuristic Cha Cha – The Waltz will likely be stunning, but I doubt very much he gets another 30. The judges aren’t rolling that way – unless he’s not getting the votes I think he is. 🙂 Futuristic Cha Cha?? Does Anna have it in her? If I see a faux hawk and lights on their costumes, I’m calling foul. 🙂 Cha cha could be challenging when he doesn’t have a group with him – he still has hip issues, but with his fanbase it ain’t no big thing. I don’t think. 🙂
Evan and Anna talk about their dances and training (Sorry John, I’m really loving Anna):
Niecy/Louis: Viennese Waltz and 90’s Paso – Well, I don’t know what to say about this. What does a 90’s Paso look like? And how can the judges tell it’s a 90’s Paso? As much as I love Niecy, I don’t think she’s sharp enough for either of these dances at this stage of the competition. If there is ANY justice, this show now belongs to Evan, Nicole and Erin, with an honorable mention by Chad in whom I have seen improvement. Don’t get me wrong, Niecy has improved too (she might even be better than Kelly was at this stage) – but not enough to compete with Evan, Nicole, Erin and Chad. If we are talking “fair” and we all know this show ain’t fair most of the time.
I couldn’t find a comparable video to the ones above where they talk about their dances, but I LOVE this video of Niecy and Louis. Sometimes she wears on me, but she’s pretty damn funny. 🙂 And Louis is too!
Random Musings and Predictions
Who do I think is going home this week? The short answer is Niecy – but I think it could be a very interesting week, to say the least. I think either Nicole or Evan could find themselves in the bottom 2, more likely Nicole than Evan. Why? Well, bear with me because it’s a complicated thought and it’s really hard to tell how and why people vote for who they vote for. The following is MY opinion on the voting process – I have no insider knowledge. If I did, I wouldn’t be here. 🙂
The average non-internet dwelling people who likely make up at least 80 percent of the viewing audience (if not a LOT more) probably vote for either who they consider the best dancer, or whoever their personal favorite is. I would imagine that their voting breaks down in the order that is spouted by the entertainment shows and Vegas odds makers: Nicole/Evan, Erin, Chad and Niecy. BUT, how many times do those people vote? One phone line and one internet account? One or the other? And how many vote? I would also wager that most of them see maybe one entertainment show, most likely Entertainment Tonight, if that.
That leaves the other 20 percent (or much less) of the voting population. These people (and I include myself and everyone reading this) represent the extremes of the population. They see a lot of internet and traditional media, they develop a serious favorite and vote like crazy – multiple times. They *follow* dancing with the stars. Some of them have a favorite professional dancer who they will vote for every time, like me. Some of them are fans of a given celebrity and vote like crazy for them. Then there are those that are just fans of the show and who develop a favorite couple not being a fan of the celeb or the pro going in. So which of those three groups vote the most? Well, I’m inclined to believe that the person with the biggest fanbase going in wins because those people are PASSIONATE.
In terms of this season, that person has to be Evan, going by all previous barometers of who wins the show. Evan’s fans most likely are the demographic who vote, much like Kristi and Shawn. Nicole also has a big fanbase and she is paired with, arguably, the most popular professional dancer (of the men, at least). While Derek’s fans will vote like crazy, do Nicole’s? Pop Stars don’t WIN, normally because their demographic is younger and not inclined to vote as much – they may not have even watched the show before. The exceptions are Joey and Donny, but they are older and male with fanbases that intersect the DWTS demographic. Is it because female pop stars coincide with ringers? Doubt it – more likely it’s because their fanbases don’t match the typical DWTS demographic. Past history shows that female pop stars don’t fare as well as Olympic Gold Medalists and Football players. Which brings us to Chad. The football players who have done very well have not only been very popular, but they’ve danced better than Chad has, which is why I don’t think Chad will make the finals.
A third thing at work here is visibility. The media. Who’s getting the media? Erin, Chad and Niecy. Now, granted, Kate got the lions share of the media and got the boot, but she was also a horrible dancer. It’s hard to say how the relative lack of visibility will affect Nicole and Evan. Really, just Nicole because Evan’s got that big, DWTS demographic-matching, fanbase. Erin has been EVERYWHERE this week both good (Kimmel, Leno) and bad (The View), plus ALL of the entertainment shows. She is literally everywhere. To a lesser extent, Chad and Niecy are getting media too – Chad because of his showmancing of Cheryl and Niecy because she has a strangle hold on ET and The Insider. She works for the Insider and the same company owns ET. So will all the media help? Hurt? Or have no impact? I’ll tell you a secret – it impacts me because I see all of it. I have a TiVo that picks up all of those shows – it takes me less than half an hour to fast forward through all those shows looking for interesting bits of DWTS news. That is why I won’t be voting for Erin/Maks if they were to outlast Nicole/Derek, I find Chad increasingly charming, love Niecy, and I GET Nicole. And Evan is just a doll. But really, how many people are there out there that do the same? Is performing well on show night enough to remind people you exist? I dunno – Nicole hasn’t been getting the best edits. Neither has Erin, but she has a huge sympathy factor in play here that Nicole doesn’t get. Nicole has Derek who is well liked, Erin has Maks who might have turned some off with his temper tantrums. Who knows?
In conclusion, based on my thoughts outlined above, here’s how I think it goes, prior to seeing the dances:
Evan/Anna – Safe, because of a bad-ass fanbase and no small amount of dancing talent.
Erin/Maks – Safe, because she was in the bottom two last week AND Elizabeth Hasselbeck was an ass to her. Sympathy and highly motivated fans.
Nicole/Derek – Likely safe, but possible bottom 2 due to lack of visibility, non-DWTS fanbase of the PCD. Her fans (and Derek’s) need to STEP IT UP.
Chad/Cheryl – Danger Zone, but likely safe due to charm and the football player fan contingent. Unlike Erin/Maks, he and Cheryl are successfully working the are they/aren’t they showmance angle.
Niecy/Louis – Danger Zone, probably going home.
Now, it’s entirely possible that the scoring will be such that it’s a foregone conclusion who will stay and who will go. That’s why I do the math after the dancing. The above sort of assumes that the scores will be close again – but it also acknowledges that at this point in the game, the scores don’t mean all that much.
I hope that Nicole will make it to the finals and wins the whole thing. But I think that you’re right, Olympic goldwinners are doing better. Still I’m hoping and voting. And spamming my friends to vote too, but I doubt that they would do it. Mainly because they don’t care about DWTS or Nicole (I live in the Netherlands).
I am neutral about Evan, because he doesn’t leave an impression, week after week. I guess he is ok, but every time he makes a joke, it just sounds serious (maybe it’s the voice). I do love the dancing that Anna’s doing, but he just looks like a supporting-act.
Erin & Maks make me laugh every week with their fighting, but that’s because I don’t take it very seriously. Still there is something about them that I don’t like and keeps me from voting for them.
I enjoy watching Chad and Cheryl, but that’s more because Cheryl’s dancing and choreography is great! And maybe because Chad is trying so hard and Cheryl isn’t giving in, in an obvious way anyway.
Niecy is DWTS’ joy and I will be sad to see her go, but her dancing just isn’t as good as the others.
And off topic: I love the cheesecake-awards, the reviews/recaps and the predictions. Keep it up!
I just found this site, so I’m going to read everything back to the very first week. I think I will be busy for a while 😀
Sorry that you had to read all of it, but just needed to get it off my chest ^^
xoxo
Donny was the only other one to do a Paso – an 80’s Paso. Kelly had a 60’s Jive, Aaron had a 90’s Samba and Mya had a 70’s Samba.
It’s very simple, all the Nicole and Derek fans need to step up the voting. And somebody should be tweeting Nicole and Derek to tell them to put their voting details on their twitter and tweet them on performance night!!!!! They have thousands of followers that could potentially vote, which they may not be currently doing.
Nicole and Derek need to come out and Monday and do their absolute best, especially as they’re going first I think, because they haven’t so far; but they still could get 60/60 or near enough. Mya and Dmitry went 1st in week 8 last season and got a 29 on their foxtrot and 30 on their 70s samba.
Nicole and Derek are dancing first on Monday? How do you know? I know they have the fifties but they did not go in order by the decades last year either. They have been equal to Evan throughout the season. I do not think Nicole has dominated though her dancing is stronger than Evan’s. Anna stands out more to me than Evan. When will Len tell Evan to stop sticking out his bum like he said to Joey. It is not just Evan’s feet that are off when he dances.
Last year they had three different era dances.
Mýa & Dmitry ’70s Samba
Aaron & Karina’90s Samba
Joanna & Derek Futuristic Paso
Kelly & Louis’60s Jive
Donny & Kym ’80s Paso Doble
John – They don’t dance in order of era. As I said, last season in the second round around Mya and Dmitry where first and they had a 70s samba.
I think Nicole and Derek are dancing first because they haven’t done so far! It would far better for them to dance 1st this Monday rather than if they where to be in semi-finale or the Finale!!!!!!!! They have to dance first some time.
I totally agree with you on Evan. I don’t understand what people are looking at when praising his dances. He seems like a nice guy, but I don’t see any passion in any of his dances. I still can’t beleive he got three 10s in his Argentine tango. He just seemed clunky at times, and there was none of that deep passion.aggression you are supposed to have in the argentine tango. And did you see his cha cha in team Madonna, it was weak! Very balletic and lyrical! I’m sure Anna will very to make their futuristic cha-cha very un-cha-cha like to still keep evan on top.
Evan is a nice guy. Maybe that is why people are forgiving his dancing. I have not seen improvement either. He still dances very lyrical and balletic. No passion in the rumba or the tango. No samba feel in his samba. Yet he got a 30? That cha cha is going to be more stiff but it will be okay because it is futuristic and judges will rave about it. Whatever score he gets his fans will say he was robbed. This is why he is still a shoe in to win. Nicole probably will go first but I hope they score her high enough and not rob her of scores she deserves. She already got stuck with the worst possible combination-fifties paso doble.
John – I agree with you about Evan. I disagree with you about the 50s paso doble. This is where Derek thrives, when he can be creative. Whoever thought you could do a futuristic paso doble? He did amazing. I doubt any one of the other Pros could of come up with that choreography. I think without a doubt Nicole and Derek have the best combo of dances. Ginger Rodgers style crowd pleasing foxtrot and out there create paso doble.
I beleive Nicole can win. At the end of the day, when it comes to the Finale and who wins, it always comes down to the Freestyle. Even Mark Ballas said it last season. Mya was top on all the polls, after her paso doble and relay dance, then when she had mediocre freestyle and Donny had a freestyle that was better, he went up in all the polls and won. No offense to Anna or any of the other Pros but I don’t think anyone else except maybe Mark could choreograph such a great freestyle as Derek!
Granted, Derek has already choreographed two freestyles this season…the quickstep and the samba. One begins to wonder if Ms. Shesaringer shuns learning assigned dance moves for fear of imperfection?
Evan scores off the charts for charm, personality, grace, and humility, and he is truly spectacular on the dance floor as on the ice. However, his schedule (4 ice shows this week) has GOT TO affect his strength and performance on DWTS. Whatever, I’ll bet he’ll win on that fabulous personality alone.
Erin and Maks have a HAWT combination in rumba and Argentine Tango. Whatever the scores, that will be a gorgeous sight to behold.
Nicole’s “I’m an artist, not like other people” as well as her tacky move of flying in her Down Syndrome aunt to showcase on camera, all of her diva-ness works against her ever truly being likely to receive that silly trophy. Character counts in the end.
Joanie – seek professional help. That is all.
Erin got two great dance assignments that should be good plus all the publicity from Elisabeth Hasselback. But I still do not think Erin is that good. Her legs are still not great and her arms, something about them bother me. When Carrie Ann or Bruno praise them, what are they smoking? But Elisabeth’s hateful comments alone probably earned her a spot in the finals. When I saw Nicole’s samba, there was plenty of samba content. I saw promenades, shadow rolls, fallaways. The thing is Derek is creative but reading those quotes, it does not encouraging. If they struggle, people will say Derek messed up but can anyone tell me what they would do with a fifties paso? A nineties paso is not any better but you could work a lot of the techno music feel during that time.
I dunno, John, I think the futuristic angle can either be great or the kiss of death – I don’t think there is ANY guarantee that a futuristic Cha Cha is a shoe in just because it’s futuristic. I think it is every bit as challenging as Nicole’s 50’s Paso. Think of it this way – Derek already did the futuristic era brilliantly with Joanna – Evan and Anna have to live UP to that and do a cha cha, which Evan still struggles with. I don’t think it will be easy.
Evan is hard working but not charming or humble. There were several interviews where he overplays his schedule and how he has it tougher than other celebs. Whenever asked about his ringer status, he always throws Nicole under the bus and overplays her. When in reality, Evan is a ringer too plus fan base so he has the bigger advantage. But Nicole’s unfortunate comments probably cost her any chance at challenging Evan since now anything she does is viewed as awful. She encourages a fellow celeb, she is fake. She helps others, she is attention seeking. Evan respects Anna and is hard working and hasn’t done anything like Erin, Niecy, Chad or Nicole that can be perceived as annoying. Evan is vanilla.
Heidi that is true that Anna have to live up to Derek’s choreography last year. But the show overpraised Evan’s tango and while he looked uncomfortable in that cha cha, the judges still thought it was good. He has things to work on to be less balletic but the judges just say he is amazing.
I wouldn’t be so sure of that either – I don’t think they’ve been overly easy on Evan this season. After that 30 he might be due for a thrashing – it really hard to say what the judges will do. I think they often try to manipulate the show with their scores, but then other times not. I saw a video the other night with Len being extremely disappointed that Pam was gone, he said he thought she had two more weeks in her. Well, gee, Len – you’re the one who overscored Chad and Niecy – you share some of the blame in that!
This is why I say Nicole and Derek’s fans have to step it up this week, John – the 50’s thing could be bad. But, I said that last year too.
“But Elisabeth’s hateful comments alone probably earned her a spot in the finals.” Have you guys no honor? Please tell me you are not deliberately dissing ERIN for Elizabeth Hazzelbuck’s “blame the victim” crap. Again, have you no shame?
Is it an accident that your DH fervor approaches religious fervor?
Wishing Evan L the very best toward that trophy. He’s GREAT!!! (And Erin and Maks are purely adorable . . . awwwww.)
Oh, vanilla indeed. 🙂 He does overplay his schedule – Niecy is traveling too and you don’t really hear her talk about it at all. But don’t get bogged down in what the wacko fans like Joanie say – this is about fanbases. Evan has the biggest. Period. Most people don’t have the over reactions like Joanie unless they are already voting hard and passionately for someone else and want to try to tear Nicole down.
Evan will win, but it won’t be because he’s charming and wonderful and Nicole is a fake diva – it will be because he has an enormous fanbase. There are only two ways that someone MIGHT beat him – game ending injury or a truly disastrous freestyle – and I’m not even sure that will be enough.
Heidi the judges do seem to manipulate. With Erin and Pam both hitting the bottom 2, I am guessing the judges will score Erin high again. But within reason. If you give her tens, Evan and Nicole should too. But then they will underscore Niecy and Chad. Who knows but this will be an interesting week to see how things shape up. I assumed Erin’s fan base was bigger than Nicole last week.
Joanie, if Erin brought on a family member who was special to her, would you say it was disgusting? If her aunt is a fan of DWTS, what a great gift Nicole was able to give her. Get her to attend the show and getting to appear on camera. I thought it was a touching moment.
Did anyone here say blame the victim? No. It was an insult at Hasselback who ripped on Erin for no reason (did you miss the part where Hasselback’s comments were described as hateful) will garner her sympathy that will help her. If anything, Hasselback will have to look at more of Erin’s costumes now. That’s amusing!
Karla – I wouldn’t be so sure about the freestyle thing. That’s why I constantly caution fans that the SCORES DON”T MATTER – that’s the whole point of the numbers post. To show how often they don’t matter. How often has the biggest ringer NOT had the best freestyle?? Hardly ever, which is why I’m not sure you can say that the freestyle wins it.
Mya versus Donny – Donny was the bigger ringer due to fanbase and also had the best freestyle
Gilles versus Shawn – Shawn was THE ringer that season and also had the best freestyle – it was only close because Gilles was so good
Lance versus Brooke versus Warren – technically I think Warren and Lance were ringers by fanbase and supposed ability, respectively and Brooke was not a ringer but was a MUCH better dancer than the other two and clearly had the best freestyle. But Lance and Warren were not even CLOSE to the ringer status of latter season. They pale in comparison to Mya, Donny and Shawn. But it could be argued that Brookes freestyle overcame the fanbases of the other two.
Kristi…was there anyone even CLOSE to Kristi?? She was the ringer of all time, cross between training AND fanbase, probably bigger than Evan. It was her and Jason Taylor in the final so I would say NO. 🙂 Freestyle likely didn’t matter.
Helio versus Mel B – I remember watching this season and LOVING Helio even though he wasn’t as good a dancer as Mel B, who was the ringer of that season. So, did Helio have the better freestyle? I don’t remember. If the consensus was that Mel B had the better freestyle, then this is the first true example of the real ringer having the better freestyle and actually losing. Why did she lose? Well, combine Julianne (who was ascending to extreme popularity) with the personality and charm of Helio. I think it’s obvious.
I’m thinking I might need to do an actual post about this ringer/freestyle/winner thing and see…
Please learn to read, Joanie – fact of the matter is, what Elizabeth did probably WILL help Erin. That’s a fact, not a diss – people WILL sympathize with Erin. Why wouldn’t they? I have been on Erin’s side through the whole thing, and I’ve said so multiple times (which your selective reading prevents you from seeing), but I don’t feel the need to bend over backwards and kiss her ass. I doubt very much she would want that either.
And when speaking of religious fervor, you might want to look in the mirror. Yer gettin’ a little scary.
It depends, John, on who they want in the semi-finals more – Erin or Chad. I agree they will likely score her high and that she got good dances, as opposed to both Evan and Nicole, who are really being challenged in their era dances. Will they try to get her into first place to really shake things up? They have to be really careful at this point because if it isn’t VERY obvious that Erin was superior to Nicole and Evan, putting her in first place will cost them their credibility, which is already in question – and could drive more voters TO Nicole and Evan and away from her. The problem with the way they score – by judging each couple according to how that couple is growing and NOT judging them against the other dancers – is that it can really make them look bad if Erin is up with Evan and Nicole, if Evan and Nicole are nearly perfect and she’s…not. It will be interesting to watch, for sure. 🙂
Joanie – Keep dreaming.
Princess Heidi – No Mel B had a terrible freestyle. And Helio had a freestyle that wasn’t to my personal test but it was very crowd pleasing, the Judges loved it and he got high scores. I think part of the reason Helio also won was because of the Julianne factor.
There’s been few who did not have good freestyles; Mya, Mel B.
Shawn may of been the ringer but Gilles would of probably won if he had had a great freestyle, even though he had mediocre freestyle tom said he had come within 1% of winning against Shawn. Now whether that is statistic is true, we’ll never know, but it just shows you.
Every single season, I’ve watched it since season 4 – the best freestyle has won. That doesn’t mean we can be lazy on our voting at all, but it’s true.
I would love to know who is getting the most votes each week. I wish they would release that information. Because I know looking at DialIdol Nicole and Derek have got the most phones votes every time I’ve looked at it.
The question now is do I let Joanie to continue to troll the comments, lie, distort and be a hypocrite in the nastiest manner possible, or do I just leave her posts to stand as a testament to crazy fans everywhere? 🙂 I’m a Derek fan, and I know lots of Derek fans, but I’ve never seen the religious fervor in them that I see in HER. Poor thing.
Karla – you know that Dial Idol thing is highly flawed, right? Flawed or not, it’s a good sign that Nicole and Derek are at the top – but that only counts phones. The really passionate people are voting online, which is the part we don’t know about. I would love to know too. I would love to be wrong and see Nicole beat Evan, but history is not on our side.
Heidi – Are we not supporting Derek and Nicole, you shouldn’t be saying Evan is going to win. He is not a Donny. He has not got this is in the bag.
Well apparently it gets 97% of American idol results right, but they don’t have internet voting. You mean history is not our side because Evan is an Olympian, and they have a history of winning. I think the fact that Nicole is with DEREK is another thing which could make her win. He has a huge fanbase.
Geez, now I get crap from the Derek fans too? I can’t fuckin’ win. 🙂 I do support Derek and Nicole – I think that should be VERY obvious. But lets not stick our heads in the sand – we will have to work extremely hard to win and the odds are against us.
Who was it that said if you were getting shit from both sides of the issue that you’re doing something right?? 🙂
😛 What’s with the swearing. Just anxious because I want Nicole and Derek win.
Odds are there to be broken — Karla
Even though I vote for Derek and Nicole and I’ve convinced my friends to vote for them too (I said that I would bake cookies for them :P), I think that Evan and Anna will win, one: because of his fanbase and two: because for every other contestant they make horrible rehersalclips that make people think that they are Diva’s or whatever.
Swearing is what I do. It’s part of my thing. 🙂
Evan does have a hard, busy schedule he travels at night, performs a show, and before that he practices ice skating too by going through his ice skating routine for couple of hours. That has to take toll on his body and dances. You can’t really compare it to Niecy’s that much, though it probably does make it difficult.
As for Nicole her schedule isn’t that busy compare to the others. Evan’s schedule brings down a bit of the perfectionist side in him, since his hours for practicing are limited.
It actually hurt to see you calling me WHACK, Heidi, almost as much as it did to see John calling Maks an A**hole.
Trust me, I would not at all object to your postings if you advertised yourself truthfully as a Derek Hough promotion site. It’s the pretense that you are a an objective DWTS site that is infuriating. Note the pics at the top of your home page — so many of the DWTS pros and contestants. But the phony analysis and thinly veiled antithesis toward all but the Houghster is too much to stomach.
Even your own followers expect it. Karla: “Heidi – Are we not supporting Derek and Nicole, you shouldn’t be saying Evan is going to win.”
So rather than sending me off to an analyst’s couch, perhaps you ought to ask yourself why you need to be so deceptive in supporting the guy. Lacks class, for sure.
If my posts have appeared to be angry at the obvious bias here, it’s because I am following in your own examples of harsh words. “It’s part of my thing.”
Hey, bake me some cookies!! 🙂
@ Princess Heidi
I will 😉 but you will have to pick them up here (Soest, Netherlands). Everyone loves my cookies, so my friends were more than willing to vote when I said it 😀
Well, Joanie – STOP coming here then. Simple. I am a Derek fan, but none of the others who post here are particularly inclined toward him – and I’ve never denied it. And I’ve never claimed objectivity – quite the opposite, actually, which you would know if you quit allowing your righteous indication at my lack of Maks fawning to color how you read the site. BUT, it’s not a requirement in a blog to be objective. Blogs are opinion sites, pure and simple – this is not CNN. John (not the John that has been posting here today – two different people), Courtney, Marianya, Jeanne – all have different biases and favorites. You can object all you want, but I’m as unlikely to stop posting MY OPINION as you are to start reading it without your own strong biases coloring your views.
This is a DWTS site because we talk about DWTS. And we’re not always positive. If you don’t like it, no one is forcing you to read it.
COOL! I’d love to see the Netherlands. If only I didn’t have a full time job. Sucks. 🙂
Yeah, well, there isn’t much to see over here. I would love to go to the States, not sure that you live there though 😛
Thank god that I don’t have a full time job. But he invented something else, called school 🙁
Cindy if Nicole is your favorite, just keep voting. Vote for your favorite regardless of outcome. You just never know and never want to regret it.
@John
I am voting, hell, I wake up earlier on Tuesday to vote (timedifference) because it’s only open for a limited time. But this week I stepped it up and convinced my friends to vote too. Hopefully they will vote the next three weeks.
I’m wondering who you vote for ^_^
How on earth does anyone take this silly little website/forum seriously when the authors are so obviously biased towards/against certain couples? In just a few weeks of reading, that’s become obvious to me!
Horrible but I only vote on the final episode.
Might change this week because Chad needs to go.
Cindy – If they make Nicole look bad this week you know they’re playin’
Donna – As Heidi said, this is a blog, it’s an opinion site. Actually MSNBC vote a very biased article for Evan and against Nicole last week. Everyone has their biases.
Nicole & Derek for the win! Yes, they are trying to give these two a bad edit and make her look like a diva. Yet, look at their unaired footage, they’re having a ball and being nice to each other. I don’t like Evan, I think he is overrated. Erin needs to go and her edits are bad too. Niecy, I love her, but if she has staying power, she’ll be the Kelly Osbourne of this season. Nicole and Derek are the best couple and no, she is not a pro dancer. Look closely at PCD videos, they’re NOT dancing. They do arm waves, bump and grind, and sexy poses. Where’s the dancing? ANd how is it that Joey Fatone and Lance Bass got a pass and they allegedly had “dancing background”? Nicole & Derek for the win!!!
The only reason Nicole and Erin’s edits are “bad” are because the producers love to play up the drama and tension and so they will use any fights that happen. Evan and Niecy simply do not ever have those moments with their partners (I should know, I’ve seen enough of the footage), so there is no way to make them look like complaining divas. And Erin has far more dance background than Evan so he doesn’t have an advantage over her at least in terms of technique.
Erin’s dance experience more then Evans? Erin was to tall to be a “cheerleader” so UF started a “dance team” for tall girls. Her “dancing” included pom poms and high kicks, that was over ten years ago. I did my homework on that one…Erin has about as much dance experience as well me 🙂 She is almost 6ft…she was on the sidelines at basketball games…sheesh. BTW I find it funny that Princess is so hateful towards some people like Joanie, in reality they are very similar!
I am super excited that Erin and Maks finally has a rumba and arg. tango! But especially the rumba….the chemistry is gonna burn up the stage! I hope Maks doesn’t pull any “nonsense” and ruin it for her again! Hope they stop dressing her in such skin concealing dresses! She’s worn way to many neck to toe dresses while Nicole and others wear practical bikinis on the stage. She has a great body and ridiculous legs…screw the view chick. Shes just hatin cuz shes jealous! Whew i hope they really poor on sex hehe. Its about time somebody do a no holds bar rumba! Pams was good but she was slightly timid and i didn’t expect that from her…Erin needs to go full throttle!
Oh wow…look at all the fun I miss when I tune in late! Hehe.
I’m off work today due to a nasty sinus infection, and I’m under the influence of Benadryl, and typing on an iPhone, so I’m gonna try to keep this short & sweet…
Joanie, when have any of us claimed to be objective about all the couples on DWTS? Isn’t it kinda the gist of the show that viewers develop a loyalty to certain pros & couples…kinda like your extreme loyalty to Maks? I honestly made an effort last season to try & see where you were coming from & not offend you, but after your consistent verbal attack of anyone who doesn’t share your opinions, I’ve stopped even trying – it’s as if you’re looking for things to be indignant & offended by in every post. Again, I reiterate: no one is forcing you to read what we have to say. Donna, no one’s got a gun to your head, either. If you don’t like it, go elsewhere…This ain’t the No-Spin Zone.
Well now that that’s outta the way, weird observation: what the hell happened to the mambo this season? Was it part of the great “paring down” of DWTS, thrown out with all the extra couples & dances like the jitterbug & Lindy hop? I would think they’d keep either mambo or salsa, since they’re the only two dances of their kind. Weird.
It seems like Evan & Anna and Nicole & Derek got dealt kinda crappy hands this week – both waltz & foxtrot are on the “sleepier” side, and not quite sure how they’re gonna handle their decades dances. I think Anna’s going to have to tread very carefully to avoid comparison’s to Derek’s futuristic paso last season, and I don’t see cha-cha’s sexy feel blending quite as well with the futuristic theme as the serious feel of the paso did. No clue how Derek is gonna concoct a 50’s paso. The two concepts are almost a non-sequiter: the paso is aggressive & serious, while the 50’s are considered the “Age of Innocence” – poodle skirts, malt shops, and doo-wop. The only angle I could see working is a West Side Story theme: Sharks vs. Jets, getting ready to rumble. I’m putting my faith in Derek’s choreography to pull this one off!
Erin & Maks, as if the weren’t getting plenty of sympathy votes this week from both the EH controversy & their stint in the bottom 2 last week, also got two of the most crowd-pleasing dances. A Miami Vice-themed rumba, eh? Pretty 80’s fab, although I’m still holding out for the Top Gun “Take My Breath Away” theme…one of these days 😉
At last, Chad’s weakness in the swing dances will be exposed. Anyone pay attention to him in the swing marathon? The boy is not a bouncer, and Cheryl is gonna be hard-pressed to conceal his weaknesses in the jive – too much side-by-side open work. Ditto for the tango – Chad may have fared well in the Argentine tango due to its more “on the spot” footwork, but the standard tango moves around the floor quite a bit…and Chad doesn’t do well with big footwork.
Niecy will likely be a hot mess in both of her dances, but I can’t help but shake the feeling that she could be around for another week…she’s such a wild card. If they’re aiming for a 90s paso, they might just take a page out of Aaron & Karina’s book last season & just do a standard paso to a 90s song. Again, another head-scratcher.
Oh! One more kinda interesting note: on tomorrow night’s results show, there’s going to be a collegiate ballroom team competition. Three competition teams from all over the country are going to be performing for votes, and I guess the top 2 are going to be back to duke it out again next week. Now, why am I mentioning it, you might ask? 🙂 Because my old college team from my alma mater, Purdue University, is going to be one of the teams competing! I first got started doing ballroom on that team 7 years ago, and it helped to cultivate both my interest in ballroom as well as my skill – so it’s an organization that is very near & dear to my heart 🙂 In addition, there’s going to be some lead-in footage that was taped at the studio I take my lessons at, as that’s where the team’s coaches come from. You might even catch a glimpse of my honey 😉 So if you guys feel so inclined – please do take the time to vote in the college competition, for any of the teams! These are extremely talented students that manage to balance both a degree curriculum as well as a rigorous dance training schedule. And if you are really feeling me – throw in a few votes for Purdue, mmmmkay? 😀
woooow for the people who can’t see it DEREK is tha best pro and dancer, Nicole is the best celeb ever on the show.Period. They deserve to win more than anyone elese!! MOOOOOOORe than Evan!! He’s just pure suckness on the show i haaaaaaaaaaaate this couple, and i haaaaaaaate the producers who make look like a victim with his schedule and injury crap!! if ur schedule is so full why are u doing in the show and complain about!!! Do the damn dancing and SHUT UP!!! Stop whining like a baby with ur boring face and personality grrrrrrr!!! Derek had some injuries and didn’t talk about nicole too, i bet other celeb and pros too!! but the only one complaining is Evan!! Crap!! and it doenst’ stop here!! he’s begging for votes every 10 min!! Grow up!!
That ‘s my opinion, and this is blog where u can express ur self! so for the people who won’t like expressiv and personnal opinions they can go and look somewhere else!!!
and PEOPLE VOTE FOR UR FAVORITE!!
DEREK fans , our boy needs the vooooooooooooootes!!! voooooooote people let’s be the crazy 20% who will make the difference!!!!
Derek and Nicole for the win!!
Haha! Katie, you cracked me up 😛
I do think that Evan deserves it as much as any other contestant, even though I use all my votes for Nicole & Derek. I think that dancing with the stars is more a popularity contest than a dance competition. Allthough dancing is a big part of it.
hehehehe, Cindy believe me reading all the 48 comments made me out of my self , still i think Evan is geting too much media than he deserves, i just don’t understand if he has a full busy exausting schedule why adding more presure and complain about it so he would look like he’s a miracle worker! i don’t like that!! he’s boring he’s lacking personality and charisma all he got is a pretty face and some pirouettes!! i DO think Derek and Nicole still got a chance to win just as much Erin and Maks and Chad and Cheryl, focusing a lot about Evan being the final winner would just take the fun of the show especially if ur rooting for someone else than Evan!! It’s gonna be a tough night for sure, i hope my favorite pro will pull the night off ( i have no idea how he is going to manage the damn 50’s Paso (crap on the producers!!!) and the crumpy Len who i really hated this season not only for his comments about Derek, but a lot of his com were out of place)) and i hope that everyones favorite will step up to the expectations so evryone will have fun with the night!! 🙂
Re: Erin’s dance experience, she grew up dancing throughout her childhood until she finished high school. I’m sure it wasn’t ballroom, but still. And yes that was a long time ago, so it obviously is not “current” dance experience. Ice skating is not much for dance experience – no footwork, you don’t need great rhythm. Of course the artistry helps, as well as the sweeping arm movements and possibly the spins – although every time Evan spins, to me it looks like he’s on ice not in the ballroom. I think the biggest advantage of ice skating would just be the overall athleticism and work ethic required. 🙂 Which of course really is a huge advantage.
hehehehe Cindy believe reading all the 48 comments made me out of my self, still i think Evan is getting too much media than he should. i Think that Nic and Derek got the chance to win as much as Chad and Erin , talking about Evan as the absolute final winner would take away all the fun espacially if ur rooting for someone else than Evan. So i hope that my fav pro will pull the night off (50’s paso i dont’ know how he’s gonna manage that, i hate the damn producers for that!!) espcially with crumpy Len who i’ve learned to hate this season not only for his comments for Derek , but overall some of his com were out of place and complete nonsense!! and i hope that everyones fav will step up so it would be a nice and entertaining night for evryone! 🙂
sorry for the rewrite of my comment i thought there was an error! 😀
