I’m still stuck on the west coast waiting another hour before I get a chance to wait 2 hours until they announce the winner. Thanks for checking in each week to see all the DWTS music.

OMG!!! Why was Nicole even on this show??? Thought this was a show for people that don’t have dance expeeience!!?? She is a PUSSYCAT DOLL for crying out loud!! They all have Sexy dance routines that they practice every day. I saw the show on Discovery channell about & how they got started. I am so very dissappointed about this outcoming of DWTS!!!! I have been watching this show since it first started & I “WILL” not watch it anymore!!! This was supposed to be about “STARS” who don’t have dance experience..WHAT HAPPENED??? You just lost over 20 fans here!!
Marie,
First, you should just know that this is a fan site for DWTS and not the actual show. However, you shouldn’t be too disappointed by this season. This is far from the first time that someone is on DWTS that has dance experience. Every season there are a couple people that do.
Generally DWTS is a popularity contest and not a dance contest. So, using your reasoning, maybe we shouldn’t allow stars that are more popular than other stars on the show, because then that’s not fair to those stars who aren’t as popular.
As for me, I’ll just keep enjoying the great dancing and amazing entertainment and not get too worked up over the “competition” aspect. They never said it was a fair competition and it never will be. It just is what it is.
i dont think nicole should have won many people r saying that they knew from the start that she was going to win by them i mean the judges she made mistakes but the judges didnt make a big deal about it max should have won they were good the judges have their favorites i think the judges should be elimated
Marie – John makes a really good point: this show is a popularity contest, not a dance contest (although I don’t think anyone can argue that Nicole wasn’t the best dancer this season) – so the winner is often the one with the biggest fanbase, or the most fervent voters. Clearly a lot of people were passionate about Nicole (and didn’t think her dance background was an unfair advantage), or else she wouldn’t have won. And no offense, but for a show that is currently topping the ratings charts, 20 viewers is really not that many to lose…
Judy – Maks & Erin made quite a few mistakes in their routines and had many ups & downs from week to week, while Derek & Nicole were consistently good throughout the season. Nicole was technically the better dancer, and it’s the judges job to recognize the technical aspect of the dancing – do you really think they should be fired for doing their job?
I think you just have to remember that the judges are part of the entertainment value too. They each have roles that they’re designed to play. With that said, if you compare this to other reality shows, these judges seem to be the least scripted of any other show.
At the end of the day, the competition will never be perfect. It’s not meant to be. It’s just meant to entertain.
I won’t watch anymore. Jumped the Shark!
WOOHOOO!! Heidi and all the others on this site had kinda convinced me that Nicole wouldn’t win (prev seasons etc) but I’m so glad she did! I smiled the whole day, even at school! Maybe I’ll watch again next season, I’ll make up for those 20 the show has lost
Question for all of those who didnt think Nicole shouldnt have won…did you vote for you favorite couple? The way I look at it is if you dont vote you cant complain.
Amanda…THANK YOU. You’ve been saying what Heidi & I have been trying to tell people all along: “Your fave got eliminated and you didn’t vote? Then you don’t get to complain!” 50% of the total score was viewer votes alone; so even if [insert couple here] was X number of points behind [insert higher-scoring couple here] after the judges scores, they could still win the whole thing as long as they had enough votes.
Or let’s say you did vote, and your fave still didn’t win – VOTE HARDER. If you feel that passionately about a certain couple, then creating 5+ ABC.com accounts to vote, texting & calling in your max number of votes from every phone you own, calling relatives and telling them to text and call in all their votes, and altogether shamelessly plugging your favorite couple via Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. shouldn’t be too much to ask
Just wanted to thank you for your blog. I’ve lurked all season and have really enjoyed the posts/videos/gossip. It’s tough to pick who to vote for because my head tells me it’s a dancing contest, but my heart wants to vote for the person I like the best. I agree with you that it’s more of a popularity contest in the end. I’m thrilled Nicole won because she deserved it, but I voted for Erin. Regardless, I was happy with the results and can’t wait for next season! Thanks again~~
Aiden Turner & Ashly Costa
- Paso Doble: Theme from Star War
it should be Buzz and Ashly, I believe:)
Thanks for awesome blog, I was totally rooting for Nicole (well, I was rooting for Derek but it helped that Nicole was amazing) and really glad she won. I’m from Europe and even i voted 10 times through ABC.com! So I think if people aren’t happy with her winning they should’ve done something, they had a lot more opportunities to do so than me.
As for previous dance experience-people should try watching SYTYCD, where amazing contemporary or jazz or hip hop dancers with more than 10 years of training are failing at simple waltz or cha cha. I think sometimes it’s even harder for people who had some dance training to become ballroom dancers, but what do I know, I’m only a viewer:)
Which is exactly what me and my Derek-loving friends did, Courtney.
But I’ll tell you something else that happened that I’ve kept silent about because I figured it served them right if it failed – there were a group of fans who claimed they were voting 350 times for Evan and 350 time for Erin to prevent Nicole from winning. I did not say a word, because I wanted them to do that.
Why? Well, if you understand the voting and how the math works, you know that if you’ve got time to vote 750 times you damn sure better only give those votes to ONE person, not two. Vote splitting is a sure fire way to get one of your favorites sent home. Just imagine if those people had given ALL their votes to either Erin or Evan?? We might have a different winner, depending on how many votes were cast total.
Thanks Ava. I corrected it.
Hehehe…that is hilarious, Heidi. I’m sure it was a group of junior high Evan & Maks fangirls using flawed logic to try and thwart Nicole. EPIC FAIL – you’re ALWAYS better off putting all your eggs in one basket when it comes to voting. But my question is, how the hell were they getting 700 votes in??? That is, if they actually were getting 700 votes in and it wasn’t just talk. Must’ve been one huge group of misguided voters…that was surprisingly well-organized. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
And Ava, I couldn’t agree more with your SYTYCD analogy – it’s kinda frustrating to me that people automatically assume that dance experience of ANY kind equates to success in ballroom dancing. I can think of several dancers on SYTYCD that were fantastic in their own style – and terrible at ballroom. The first time Travis Wall danced ballroom (a foxtrot), Nigel told him he looked like the gingerbread man from Shrek. Danny Tidwell struggled with the jive, the Viennese waltz, and the foxtrot (with Anya, a ballroom dancer, as his partner) until finally nailing the samba with Lacey. Philip Chbeeb was terrible at the Argentine tango. And pretty much everyone, ballroom background or not, struggles with the quickstep on that show! I don’t know why it shouldn’t be any different on DWTS – sure, someone may have some dance experience, but it may be of little assistance when it comes to learning ballroom.
Courtney, there was an example of what Ava was saying actually ON DWTS – Maks and Erin trying to do contemporary for their freestyle. While it didn’t suck, it was terribly messy – which it wouldn’t have been if either or both of them specialized in that area. Gee, Maks is a trained ballroom dancer – why wasn’t that just as good as his other routines with Erin??
Why did the judges commend him for “stepping outside his comfort zone” if it’s so simple for a “trained dancer” to dance ANY dance?? LOL
As for the crazy voters – I didn’t even soothe Derek fans that came screaming into PDH about the people who were so petty as to try such a thing. You never know who’s reading the comments and I didn’t want to dissuade anyone from actually doing it.
As for power voting – I think you would be astonished at the organization of PCD fans and Derek fans. It’s not hard to get people informed on how to do it. And I gave a lecture on vote splitting at the very beginning of the season. The lecture basically said “If you are thinking of doing it, don’t – unless you want Nicole to go home.”
The size of Derek’s fanbase, combined with the size of Nicole’s fanbase, great choreography and fans who KNOW how to vote and who are organized is why they won. Imagine Nicole with the cold Alec. Or the hothead Maks. Don’t think it would work.
Thanks for publishing the song list. There was an oldie but a goodie that I didn’t want to live without! You rock!
Interesting points here. I got kicked off a message board for saying that when the Evan and Erin fans gang up on Nicole trying to oust her then Karma’s a bitch. Trying to use a negative strategy won’t work for your favorite, it works against them. Better to be positive for your favorite and vote solely for them.
I read that Maks, Cheryl and Tony will be performing at the Fred Astair Awards today. Which made me think about people with dance experience. Marrisa Jaret Winokaur won that award for Hairspray. It’s an award for outstanding dance in Theatre. Go figure. Even people with dance experience, musical theatre in particular (similiar background to Nicole’s training) aren’t necessarily great Ballroom dancers. I think it’s actually TALENT for ballroom dancing, that allows the cream to rise to the top.
I remember hearing a hop hop song, with the lyrics “be careful what you wish for ’cause you JUST MIGHT GET IT, you JUST MIGHT GET IT” – I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I thought it was played during the finale episode. If anyone knows about it, please let me know! Thank you.
