Please. God. No. Not the Jersey Shore and especially not Mike Sorrentino. Surely the producers would never consider such a thing!! Maybe MTV won’t let him? Now, before you pooh pooh me, remember how the Kate Gosselin rumors started? In exactly this same way, with Leno being the first to mention it.

Heidi, you make want to smack me, but this one doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the Johnny Weir rumor, hehe. While it really is reality famewhoring at its worst, at least The Situation looks good with his shirt off and (based on a few of the interviews I’ve seen him do) he’s actually kinda…charming. Polite even. However, I think he’d need to be paired with one of the female pros with a stronger personality (like Karina or Lacey) in order to keep his ego in check.

And I think you may indeed have reason to be legitimately concerned about this one – if Leno is reporting it, there has to be at least a smidgen of truth (or at least possibility) to it, and I’ve seen all the Jersey Shore guys say in interviews with Extra, ET, and The Insider that if they were asked to do it, they’d love to participate in DWTS. So if ABC’s offering – it’s pretty much a guarantee that we’ll see him on there. However, it’s still up in the air whether or not there will be a 3rd season of Jersey Shore – season 2 starts airing at the end of this month, and I daresay if it goes over well, another season will probably be ordered, and it could start taping concurrently with DWTS in order to be ready for a spring season airing. Who knows.

Please let this be just a rumor. This guy gives Italians a bad name. He is HORRIBLE! He really needs to go away ASAP.

Part of the issue (I think) is a star’s shelf life. The Situation (OMG the fun with to be had with this name and his utterances) may not be relevant in his current incarnation two years or so from now. Strike while the iron is hot and the fans recognize your name.

On another note, when will the cast be announced? August?

There’s no fist pumping in ballroom! Heh.

6 months ago I probably would’ve been really irked by this. But after seeing Kate the Mannequin on the show with her poor excuse for dancing (if you can call it that), I think it might be okay to see Mike (I’m sorry, The Situation) on there. Whether he’d be a great ballroom dancer or not remains to be seen but at least he’d MOVE when he gets out there on the floor. I’m at the point now where I don’t really care if they choose someone I’m not particularly a fan of to join, as long as they get out there and at least TRY.

And he’d certainly be a ratings booster, that’s for sure.

Can they at least stop calling it Jersey shore? They’re not in the British Isles! Jersey is a small island between France and Britain. NEW Jersey is in America where he’s from.
      /off rant

Frankly if I had to choose him or Johnny Weir, I’d pick him all the way.

@Jay – You make a very valid point about shelf life and “striking while the iron is hot”. The Jersey Shore craze will fade at some point, and not long after that, people won’t remember (or even give a crap about) The Situation. May as well get him on the show while he’s still the “in” thing!

And really, as obnoxious as that show itself (and some of its cast members) may be, I actually think The Situation is one of the more interesting characters – no one can argue that the guy isn’t charismatic, and as I mentioned before, he comes across as decently intelligent and respectful in interviews. And I certainly don’t think he’d be the worst dancer the show has ever seen. He would do justice to the open-shirted (or shirtless) dress code on DWTS, and hey, he’s already tan – the show could really save on their spray tan budget! :-D Ok, I know, I’m reaching now. But really, compared to some of the other casting rumors I’ve heard…this is one I could actually stomach.

I actually don’t mind The Situation. Yeah he is obnoxious, but he’s harmless and a lot nicer than most reality stars are these days. I also think it would be pretty funny to have him on; it would exercise Tom’s punny abilities and i actually can see him doing well, unlike if Snooki were to do it.

As far as the reality star thing goes,
      The Situation > Kate Gosselin

[...] that he’s been all over twitter as a rumor for a month or more now, is that we reported on Mike back in July. This is Kate Gosselin all over again. Casual mention on a talk show and “ta da!!” [...]
