Last week it was Maks and Brandy, today it appears to be Derek and Jennifer’s turn. I imagine it will be someone else tomorrow. 
Are we sure Jennifer Grey is 50?? Because she’s Derek’s match in dorkiness – and I mean that in the nicest possible way. She’s hilarious.
I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

@Miss Pompon – Guess Derek’s going to have to be very creative when it comes to choreography. I don’t envy him. He’s got a huge challenge ahead of him, but if anyone is up for it, it’s Derek.

@Miss Pompon: I am from Canada, and they block the videos here too. However, I am able to watch the show from either television or on Youtube and vote via email . They just allowed Canadians to vote as of last season. Hopefully they’ll allow people from your country to view and vote soon too.

As for lifts, etc. I think Jennifer’s limitations are going to make Derek more creative than ever. In fact in authentic Ballroom competition there are no lifts, it’s all about dance and how you can convey your statement through movement. If you really think about it, Derek did not lift Nicole that much. He didn’t need to. She was a good enough dancer that he didn’t need a lot of filler. Jennifer is already showing as a good dancer with nice flow to her, so I think Derek will do everything to honor this partnership and her limitations while showing her in the best light possible. Having said that, for crowd pleasing purposes, I don’t think lifts are out of the question entirely. There’s lots of safe exciting moves to do. You just won’t see her doing a backflip off his shoulders anytime soon.
I know for a fact that there were Brazilians and Brits (at least) voting for Derek and Nicole last season – you can vote, you just have to know what time to vote and you need registered email address – probably gmail or hotmail or something like that.
Judging by what Derek said, Andie, they will go a ways before any lifting happens. I think he’s terrified he’ll hurt her. I would be too.
Besides, you’re only allowed lifts in AT and Freestyle, so it’s not like others will be doing what they can’t.
Just putting it out there, I love this song and it’s at a nice Viennese Waltz tempo. Maybe someone will dance to it this season. I think Derek could choreograph something very sweet to this.

@Heidi, no doubt he will be avoiding the neck and shoulders entirely. That limits you, there’s no overhead dramatics, but it doesn’t take you out of doing some of the creative things, like when Derek walked down the steps lifting Nicole as she wrapped her legs around his on the Argentine Tango.

Jennifer and Derek are so cute together. I am sure there are limitations on lifts. I don’t blame Derek for being scared a little as not wanting to hurt her, but they will work it out and he is very creative.

I’m calling it! I think Jennifer’s going to be the one to beat (Derek haters, bring out your torches, and start complaining while I cover my ears). I am a 110% Derek fan, so I’m glad she got him. This is the best rehearsal footage that I have seen. Brandy’s wobbly and needs to work on her arms (as I’ve said in a previous post), Audrina needs hip action, but she does have rhythm. Florence will surprise everyone. I think she’ll do good based on her footage I’ve seen so far. Michael Bolton also seems like he may be a contender, but he also might fool me because he does look a bit stiff. The one I’m concerned about is Kurt Warner. He has an awesome partner and just by looking at the photo shoot, his shoulders meet up to his neck! Anna, pull out the best from him and Kurt, don’t let Anna or me down!

@ Nathan, I agree with you in regards to Kurt Warner. He has a great partner but there was something about his shoulders that looked off to me when viewing the photos and video ABC posted. Hopefully Anna will be able to work on it with him. He seems like he would be a contender.
