I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
Thanks for this roundup Heidi. I sure would like to see Bruno make a public apology. He was so wrong to say what he did to Michael Bolton. Ya know…if that behavior keeps up, DWTS will have a hard time getting new celebrities to dance. I’ve liked Bruno in the past. But, I have to say my respect for him has gone down hill now.
Thanks Heidi, this is great – how are you feeling?
Voguerista – I so agree. I think Bruno has been encouraged in the past because that kind of outrageousness sells and keeps viewers tuned in. Before last year I could take Bruno in stride, but something has changed of late – he’s more mean spirited, and hurtful. He needs to find the remote to his “over-the-top” button – as Len so aptly put it, some things are better left unsaid. It was a bad Jive, I’ll agree – but you can tell someone in no uncertain terms that it was a bad jive without telling them they compared unfavorably with Rin-Tin-Tin. It will be interesting to see his behavior in the shows coming up. I loved Maks’ comment – he needs to quit trying out for movie rolls, he’s not going to get them – LOL π
Voguerista ….. and yes, good luck signing up future contestants. Especially of the male persuasion, i have feeling some of them take a little convincing anyway.
I agree, especially since Michael seemed to be putting in the time (even if his performances didn’t seem to reflect it). Bruno could have thought those things and scored accordingly, but actually saying them out loud wasn’t entertainment – it was mean and hurtful. That’s why I don’t care to watch Simon Cowell either. Some things just shouldn’t be said out loud whether they are true or not. Isn’t Bruno also the one who was rude to Billy Ray Cyrus?
I so agree with you both. Linde, I loved Maks comment as well. Too funny. I have a feeling Maks will have a lot to say on this in his Blog Friday. We will see.
I am much better today, Linde, thank you for asking. π Funny you should mention Maks’ comment about movie roles – that makes an appearance in the Cheesecake Awards, which are approaching final draft status. I almost couldn’t handle the pressure though. π
mmc, Bruno called BRC’s dance “crap”. But that was freakin’ funny because he tried to use Bruno language and he couldn’t think of anything except “crap”.
**
Michael’s jive was horrendous but Master P is the worst dancer in DWTS history. Please don’t attack me people.

PS Hi Voguerista!!
almost 24 hours have passed and I’d like to have my say on this whole DWTS thing before moving on with Michael to another part, hopefully a more rewarding one, of his great journey as an artist. When I heard that he was eliminated I first felt sorry for him, but also sad, and angry. Almost as if someone of my close family had been unfairly hurt or humiliated. I was sad and angry not so much because Michael got these comments by this no one Italian guy, but because he had worked hard, been authentic and honest towards himself and the show by working his butt off, by trusting his partner, by doing the choreography he was told to do, and came out as some kind of fool instead of getting a positive reward from all his effort and sincerety… But Reality TV is not about true, genuine persons like him : it’s about calculated moves and words…. So my first reaction was : Michael should have never gotten into this… It was a bad career move and he’s lost a lot and gained nothing going in there… Then I started to take things with more detachment, and I changed my mind : MB has gained a lot through this nightmare of a routine, because he showed to America what a true gentleman and professional he is. And judging by reactions of his fellw castmates and pro dancers, and viewers, the majority understood this and stands for him. Let’s face it : sooner or later, MB would have been quietly eliminated of this show, without much publicity. But “thanks” to Bruno’s nasty attitude, Michael became the “event” of the show and he got compassion from many, and showed what a great person he is. This show is also about publicity, and I guess if Michael agreed to do it, it was also to have a new occasion on being “spotlighted” on national TV and remind everybody who he is and why he’s a really great artist and person. Publicity, bad or good, is publicity, and not everyone gets humiliated like he was before 20 million people, especilally when you are a Musical Legend in your own field. But not everybody also gets the occasion to react as cleverly as he did in front of 20 million people. Michael took this seriously, he worked hard, and people are no idiots : they saw and felt it, even if his dance was not the best. It was not the worst either, as many faithful viewers of this show have said…. So in the end, even with this tough moment for him, going there was a good career move I think, even if he I felt bad to see him sad and disappointed on national Tv in front of millions of people. I hope Michael takes full advantage of this in weeks to come, doing TV shows and press about this whole thing. As for me, a fan of his since I was 15, I’m more than happy to have given so much of my respect, admiration (and money !) to a man who is not only an amazing talent, but also a real man, a true person. We are used to ee Michael in full force when he sings. That’s his game, he dominates it. Here, we got to see a more vulnerable side of him, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Je’s not made of steel like his song said, and I like him all the more for that. Now I’m hoping for just one last thing : that Michael gets invited to sing on DWTS, the day his new Christmas album comes out. That Chelsie and Mark Ballas will dance on his song. And that Michael will hit some of these incredible notes right in Bruno’s face to show him what REAL talent is all about !
Isn’t that the truth about Masta P! Hi NATHAN! π xxx
Nobody ever said Michael Bolton was the greatest dancer on Earth. Nor the best on this competition? He was the first to acknowledge this. And face his weaknesses and unability to dance. But ain’t it what this show is also about ? I was sad and angry with what happened this week, not so much because Michael got these over the top comments by Bruno, but because he had worked hard, been authentic and honest towards himself and the show by working his butt off, by trusting his partner, by doing the choreography he was told to do, and came out as some kind of fool instead of getting a positive reward from all his effort and sincerety… And Bruno did not take this into consideration. It’s his right and even his job as a judge to say the dancing was no good, but there were some other, more positive, and even more entertaining, ways of saying it. But Reality TV is not about true, genuine persons like Michael Bolton seems to be : it’s about calculated moves and words…. Alright, I’m going to be a cold hearted bitch and say what the hell. The dance was a complete disaster from beginning to end. What ever possessed Chelsie to have the guy coming out of a doghouse just begs to be ridiculed. That was worse than the Woz’s worm. Also, I suspect that there were reasons behind that 3 that the producers know about, namely that Bolton was a drag on the show but they needed him to score low enough so the fan vote would not be able to overcome it. When you’re given a 3 you have to be in Master P’s company.
He is a very poor dancer. When you sign up for a show and you’re going to be judged, you’ve got to suck it up. Nobody else, including the Woz or Master P got all uppity and demanded an apology. It is what it is. Bolton should just lick his wounds…or his paws…whatever.
@Andie – There’s a big difference between being “judged” and being ridiculed and humiliated – and I think Michael had to endure the latter. Bruno’s critique was over-the-top, overdramatic, condescending, and unconstructive – hell, I wouldn’t even call it a “critique” as much as I would a rant session – the sole purpose of which was not to encourage or give constructive advice to Michael, but to give Bruno a platform for his theatrics. I don’t think ANYONE who has signed up for a reality show has to be forced to endure that kind of ridicule, no matter how much of a “disaster” they may be. I also don’t recall Master P or The Woz getting anything near that kind of cruelty from any of the judges during their critiques. As for your theory about the producers manipulating scores to ensure someone gets sent home – I honestly don’t think they’d need to resort to that. I’ve touched on it before, but the show’s voting is almost self-correcting – if some is really a “drag” like you mentioned above, people aren’t going to vote…and even if they get a great score, it’s not going to matter much if the points spread is not very big. Likewise, if someone is well-liked, but not a great dancer, the voters do compensate to keep their favorites in – otherwise The Woz & Master P wouldn’t have stuck around as long as they did. Who stays and who goes really is the result of the combination of both popularity and skill. In Michael’s case, I’m not sure that he was as magnetic a personality as some of the other celebs on the show (like Margaret or The Situation), so he may not have the fan vote to save him. I don’t really think the producers were meddling in this one…seems like this played out on its own without any “prodding”.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Al Bundy absolutely hates Michael Bolton. It’s a matter of public record.
So I really enjoyed watching him embarass himself. First by failing to do any kind of dancing – whether it was his mind that blanked out or if he’s just physically incapable of doing the steps I don’t know, but it was pretty hilarious in any case. And then he made a fool of himself again by actually caring what that little european fruit on the panel had to say. How can you take anyone named “Bruno” seriously?
Oh and the girls in skimpy outfits are nice, too. Don’t tell Peg, but I’m kinda glad she forced me to watch this show…
@Courtney, I saw the youtube of it, because I was thinking what rant? Bruno was colorful, like he ALWAYS is…there was no rant. That so called dance was humiliating to watch. It does rival the WORST in the history of the show. AND let’s not forget that his score of 12 is still higher than what the Woz got. They said really harsh things to WOZ and Master P. Len as a matter of fact got angry at Master P and DID go on a rant.
Just a quick question. Were you guys all upset when Bruno called Kate Gosselin Bride of Chuckie? Or did you have a few laughs because it was Kate and not that holy than thou diva Bolton?
I don’t think that ANYONE is in the right…. Yes, Bruno said some horrible things, but so did LEN! Didn’t Len say something about pooper scooper? I don’t remember the words, but he insinuated that someone needed to clean up the doggie doo mess… Why isn’t anyone complaining about Len’s comments?
Bruno speaks in sound bites, that’s how he is on the show, that’s how he’s always been on the show, that’s how he always will be on the show. I used to think that he sat there during the performances, just thinking of the right “off the cuff” retort that will have people thinking/giggling/talking, and get his point across, about his opinions. Yes, he’s been meaner in the last few seasons, but Bruno is always going to be Bruno, love him or hate him, he’s always going to be just the way he is. Was I surprised about what he said? Maybe a little bit…
Michael does have a point, Bruno was mean to him, but I think what hurt the most, was that Michael’s mom heard what went on. That bothers me, honestly, more than the whole of everything else with the whole controversy. I REALLY felt that Bruno was being Bruno, sometimes brutally honest. And, I didn’t like Len’s comments more than Bruno’s.
Chelsie may have wanted some fun, but as soon as I heard her say she wanted him crawling out of a doghouse, my stomach dropped, and I thought how wrong that was……… I do commend Michael that he TRIED so hard, and he went along with Chelsie, but I do think that part of the whole problem with this dance, began with her decision to do the doghouse deally.
And, I really, truly, honestly, didn’t like Michael demanding a public apology from Bruno……
By the way, does anyone remember the David Allen Grier Post-Elimination fiasco? I just count this whole thing in with that.
Andie: “Just a quick question. Were you guys all upset when Bruno called Kate Gosselin Bride of Chuckie? Or did you have a few laughs because it was Kate and not that holy than thou diva Bolton?”
I probably wouldn’t have been as upset if he had said those things to Kate Gosselin being she was so mean to Tony and out of line much of the time. Michael Bolton on the other hand was not.
Right Vogue – Michael also actually tried pretty hard, and I never got the feeling that Kate tried at all. It wasn’t just what Bruno said on performance night, it was performance night and results night put together that was just too much. The whole salt in the wound thing was just totally unnecessary.
Oh brother, there were rumblings that Bolton behind the scenes was a complete arse, but it’s okay to laugh at Kate because we saw awkwardness in the video packages with Davolani? Please. Bolton knew he was going to be judged by a flamboyant judge, and he’s got to know he can’t dance. If he doesn’t then I can’t feel sorry for stupidity.
Hey Voguerista, I thought Marie Osmond was called Bride of Chuckie for her freestyle? Kate Gosselin too? What dance was that?
Move on, Andie. You’ve made your point and now you’re just arguing to for the sake of arguing. And I don’t see you convincing anyone.
Geez louise, Andie, eat some fiber
ROFL at Linde! Your right on! Bruno was totally at of line at po micheal! FIBER!! Hahahaha i have a mental photo of the indian Fiber One dude chaseing Andie with a box of Fiber Bars yelling ” NO CARD BORED I PROMISE!!!!! WAIT…..OH NO U DONT…..GET BACK HERE AND EAT MAH STANKIN FOO!!!!! ” lol.
Nathan, true and I can’t remember which dance that was for sure! Anyway, I guess they can all be mean at times. But, Bruno was over the top the other night and never ending. I thought he’d never stop going on and on. Makes you wonder if he’s an abusive person to people he knows personally.
Andie, I’ve usually agreed with most everything you’ve said with an exception to this Bruno deal. But, that’s ok. I still like you and we must campaign still to get Johnny Weir on this show next season. π lol
HA HA. Oh people, let’s just forgive and forget. The latter mostly. I KNOW PEOPLE PROBABLY WILL NOT FORGIVE EL SEΓOR QUE ESTA LOCO EN EL COCO (aka Bruno), but still, others are making this seem like a bigger deal than it really is. I agree that Bruno was being incredibly rude and disrespectful to Michael. What he said was uncalled for. I mean, saying that in front of millions of people? He completely humiliated Michael! I really DO think that Bruno should apologize to Michael. But noooooo, he wont. But it was also incredibly childish of Michael to demand an apology. He made me think of an overgrown baby. Maybe Bruno was having an off-day and decided to take his anger out on Michael or something. But if people keep on talking about this and making such a big deal over it, it’s going to turn into a full-blown controversy. And this doesn’t need to be that! Makes me think of the Katy Perry/boobs/Sesame Street “controversy.” I don’t even think kids THOUGHT about Katy’s boobs. Sheesh
1) Bruno should apologize.
2) Michael needs to not make a big deal out of this.
3) Neither should we!!!!!!!!
Oy. Imma get reprimanded for this. I think….
@Lola – At this point, it’s already a full-blown controversy – major news outlets are talking about it, and I think the effects are going to reach farther than you might think. Michael has already declined doing any post-show media appearances, and I could see him refusing to come back for the finale because of it…all because Bruno refused to swallow his pride for 2 seconds and say “I’m sorry.” As for us “not making a big deal out of it” – it pertains to the show, and we discuss the show. If people are upset about it and want to talk about it, I’m not going to discourage them. And if there’s any new developments (Bruno actually decides to apologize, Michael actually talks to the media, etc.), I feel its our duty to report on it. Not sure the Katy Perry on Sesame Street analogy is a good one to use…I mean, her boobs weren’t insulting & belittling anyone. But I agree that the toddlers watching probably didn’t notice them…unless the letter of the day was “B” as in “boob”. π
@ Lori (or anyone else who might know) – What happened with the David Allen Grier post- elimination? I’ve not watched the show every season, and never heard about the incident.
Re. Bruno and Michael – It’s not that Michael was criticized or called out for poor dancing that has so many people upset, it’s that Bruno claimed it was the worst jive in the show’s history (it’s not), the undeserved 3 which essentially ensured Michael would be going home, and the fact that Michael really did seem to be trying, unlike some other celebs in the past. Sure, the judges get snarky from time to time, but Bruno’s remark did seem over-the-top.
I would prefer Chelsie dancing with Tony or Dmitry to one of Michael’s songs, not Mark Ballas.
Bruno and Michael are such babies.
Oh, and Courtney, the reason why I thought that was because people were making SUCH a big deal about it. The woman has huge boobs, the adults have to leave her alone. I can see now that it might not have been a very good analogy, but it only reminded me of that because of the parents making such a big deal out of it. And I don’t think the letter of the day was “B” as in “boob”. π
