Michael Bolton and Ne-Yo Music on DWTS
Well, I’m sure that all of you were disappointed that Susan Boyle wasn’t able to perform on Dancing with the Stars tonight. To be honest, I wasn’t. Considering the really amazing talent that has performed on Dancing with the Stars, Susan Boyle seems like a major step down as far as I’m concerned. Nothing against Susan Boyle in particular. I just prefer other music on DWTS.
Either way, here’s the music they used on tonight’s episode of DWTS:
Michael Bolton sang “Hallelujah” with Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts performing. Yes, that’s right. Another great dance from Anna and Jonathan and definitely my highlight of the night. In fact, here’s the video:
Ne-Yo sang “One in a Million”
with the Ne-Yo’s dancers
I’m not sure what song was used for Mark Ballas’ number. Anyone know?
Mark and Val did an acoustic version of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”
.

Great songs/dances tonight.
Thanks Lindsay B. I’m proud to say I didn’t know that one;-)
i was never really into michael boltons music, but, tonight, i was so, so moved by his singing, and all, that it was awesome, and to see brunos face, bruno looked like a little boy that had his hand caught in the cookie jar…what an as_ bruno is, when he isnt in control.
michael bolton is a star, and a fantastic singer. he came in and filled in for susan boyle. michael is a celebrity. susan not. i blogged and posted that with susan out, michael should definately come there and sing, especially with what bruno did. yes, they are judges, but they do not have to be abusive, shaming and condemning…so, i hope bruno has learned from this. he looked like a little boy tonight, and not like bruno the judge. he is a fake….without being in control…get it bruno…apologize, and be decent with people…
The camera shots of Bruno did feel awkward. Props to Michael for still coming back and doing his thing.
What was the name of the song Audrina & tony waltzed to on Oct 4 & who recorded it?
N Russell,

Despite the great performance by Johnathan and Anna, I really thought Bolton’s Hallejuah was terrible. Not a fan of his nasal voice at all but the song is so ill conceived. There are so many GOOD singers out there doing the song justice. Using a children’s choir for a song like that was just all kinds of weird. The song is about being consumed by anger against a lover and a broken relationship, and looking to fight through the anger to try to find some redemption. None of that is expreseed in this version. It guts the heart of great poetry in a beautiful song. Poor Leonard Cohen.
A+++ entertainment last night again!! DWTS is really outdoing themselves for every results show. They get better and better at this every year it seems. I loved MB’s performance. Maks brother and Mark’s too. Still raving about Jonathan and Anna’s dancing too. So beautiful!
I’m just really impressed that Michael managed to pull of a great rendition of “Hallelujah” with only one hour of rehearsal time! That song is not part of his regular repertoire…pretty sure that may have been the only time he’s ever sung it live, and I think he only did it because that was the song Susan Boyle was supposed to do and Jonathan & Anna had already done the choreography for it. Props to him…just beautiful, as were Jonathan & Anna
Gotta say…I thought Val schooled Mark in the instrument department. Some of those violin bits were SICK!
Heh, Courtney, I think Val schooled Mark in Music AND Dance last night. And Michael Bolton won the night, overall. I loved Halleluja and I especially loved Jonathan and Anna.
I imagine they taped both bits before the live show so that if Michael’s one hour of rehearsal caught up with him he would get a do over – and so that if either Mark or Val had a mishap during the transitions they could get a do over. Almost positive they did Mark and Val’s before the live show, based on reading twitter.
Great night of music and entertainment. I never get tired of seeing Anna and Jonathan’s chemistry on the dance floor. Oh yeah, they’re in love. There’s no denying it. And that face off was AWESOME!!!! Who would’ve thought to use a Spears song? That was cool.
“I’m just really impressed that Michael managed to pull of a great rendition of “Hallelujah” with only one hour of rehearsal time!” Amen. And a lot less “raspy” than many other performances. No reason for judges ever to be nasty, insulting or cruel. They have plenty of other ways to “guide” the voters, determine the outcome and be provocative.
No way Courtney. Mark totally dominated Val in the instrument department. Val had some really poor violin sections. You could tell once the other violin players started playing the difference between Val’s violin and the ones that joined and made him sound better than he was. Mark had a few minor flubs with the guitar too, but not too bad. He’s got some skill on the guitar for sure.
People still like the way Michael Bolton sings? Ugh, I didn’t like him in the eighties, nineties, or now. That was absolutely the worst rendition of Hallelujah I have ever heard. His voice and personality just grate on me endlessly. I don’t think Bruno was THAT out of line either. I think there have been much more malicious things said on the show that weren’t necessarily warranted…and his were! That was the worst jive, ever. I think the judges knew that he hadn’t been putting the practice time in (Chelsie even brings it up during the package) and it showed – nor did they let him get away with it. Everything this guy does just reeks.
I did enjoy seeing Anna T & Jonathan dance, as always. He’s probably my favorite pro and I love any opportunity to see him on the floor.
The face off was good, and it’s definitely Britney Spears best song by far – it worked well. I like Mark, although I do think he is too hectic on the floor sometimes, and last night was no exception.
To be honest, “Hallelujah” isn’t hard to sing and Michael Bolton completely murdered the song for me. “Hallelujah” is supposed to be an uplifting song and it felt like he was singing at a funeral. MB just seems really douchey, imo.
Also, I don’t know why but this season’s results shows seem a bit boring. Not lots of dancing by the pros, and mediocre guests (apart from Ne-Yo).
And Mark, I’m so sick of him pimping himself with the whole “I’m a musician” thing. Yes, you are.. but can you stop pimping!! Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s going to be a musical guest this season..
I agree with you on the Mark pimping himself comments, xx, for sure. And it really, REALLY bothers me that Derek will pimp him, yet Mark NEVER returns the favor. Ever. Hasn’t for a couple seasons now. I think there is a very interesting sibling relationship going on here and Mark is definitely the younger, more insecure one.
I read a review once that said Michael Bolton sings like he’s passing a kidney stone. I’ve never had one (thank goodness) but I’ll bet I’d sound something like that. Leonard Cohen must feel like Bruce Springsteen – he’s mystified why his song “Born in the USA” is used by people as an endorsement. Anyway, the angels/choir children and fog put an exclamation point on it, just in case we didn’t get the “this is really great entertainment” vibe. It must be me but I think this season is a half-*ssed hot mess.
I agree #Jay, the only saving grace was the professionalism of Jonathan and Anna, but there must have been a sale on fog machines at Walmart.
Heidi,
I actually think that Mark’s really spoiled, kinda like.. “I’m going to rub it in your face. I’m more talented and I play instrument and I’m better.” I think he’s a nice guy but he comes off as a show-off.
Derek, on the other hand, is pretty humble and quiet..
TOO quiet, xx. He’s a much better singer (although that is subjective – but Derek’s voice is cleaner and stronger), for one thing, but he always gives up the lead to Mark. Maybe Mark wants the music thing more than he does, but it bugs.
omg Mark is the worst person in the world, no matter what he does people will always hate, this is getting old, but Derek is perfect, everything he does is right.
Hate, Patty? Over react much?? Only 12 year olds really think that if you don’t absolutely love someone, you hate them.
Where are the Cheesecake Awards?????
Oh Zack. Great minds. Check out the main page and what was posted when you posted above.
Look again, young Jedi…..
Oh!!!!! LOL great timing guys!! Rofl! Thx
Annndddd… again with the twelve year-old comments, Heidi. Bah.
Anyways, you guys were mad at Lacey for not knowing who the Eagles were, but John not knowing “Toxic” was hilarious.
That song is a classic… for me.
I’m gonna get killed for this, but I had no idea who the Eagles were, either. Don’t think I’m that clueless, though, since my favorite song is older than my mom. (Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”)
John didn’t know Toxic?? How did I miss this? I’m going to have a talk with him. Again.
I was grateful I didn’t know a Britney Spears song. I’m definitely no music expert. I know a little bit of country. I’m good at building communities of people that will answer it for me;-)
Are you a “little bit country” John?
As a Utah native you should get that reference.
I don’t consider myself a Utah native actually, but my wife was roommates with their niece in college. Country rules…at least in my world.
JOHN and HEIDI>>> LOL!!!!!!!
