DWTS, Week 4 – Blogger Alert 2

Maks blogged today. As most of you have noted in our earlier reports, Maks lost his Grandmother this week. Because of this, he’s decided to dedicate Brandy and his dance this Monday night to her. Maks also talks about their dance last week and the elimination of The Situation. Here’s more from TV Guide…a very emotional Maks.;

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great week! Thanks for your votes!

I hope you do not mind, but I’m going to keep this week’s blog brief. If you follow me on Twitter, you may know that my grandmother died on Wednesday. It’s been a hard couple of days. She was 76. She had stomach cancer, but she had surgery a little while ago and was supposed to be OK. We found out last week that it returned. My mom was flying out to Russia, but my grandmother died before she got there. I’m just sorry she did not get to see her. I have never lost an immediate family member before, so it’s hard for me to comprehend someone not being there anymore. I just do not get it. I was able to speak to her, fortunately, before she passed. My grandmother was a very strong, very active person, and she sounded kind of defeated. That was very strange for me to hear. It was such a sudden turn of events. I feel like in this day and age, with so much progress and technology, certain things could be prevented. My grandma was a great woman. She raised three wonderful children and was a very proud grandmother. I’m worried about my grandfather because they were married for 53 years. My mom is in Russia now. I’m not going to call right now because I just need to give her time. In Russian tradition, there is a nine-day period before a service, but unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to go to Russia until after the season is over. We’ll figure it out.

In times like these, everything else seems trivial, but I was very happy with our rumba. We had a great time. Brandy really went after it. We really tried to do a true rumba and not a Dancing with the Stars kind of rumba, and I think we succeeded. I got phone calls and messages from my dancer friends afterward saying that it was a great rumba and they enjoyed it. We tried out best. I thought the judges were much better this week with actual constructive criticism. Both nights were well done. I think the new stage really livened things up. I always like being closer to the audience, so I loved the stage. Our song was already acoustic in itself, but I thought the orchestra did a nice job with our music. The whole week was pretty positive.

The Situation left. I can’t say I was really surprised. He was close to the bottom or at the bottom every week. He has a lot of fans and they kept him in and rightfully so because everybody can vote for their favorite. But somebody’s got to go each week and it was his time. If he gave it his best and that was the outcome, we need to applaud his effort. Jennifer was again very impressive. They did a great dance and I think they deserved those 10s.

Next week, we have the quickstep. We’re still working it out. It should be good. Quicksteps are not very exciting dances because they’re very technical and you’re not supposed to break hold. There’s not going to be much to wow people, especially since other couples are doing dances that are flashier. We’re going for a good performance. It’s TV Theme Week and we have the theme from Friends. I think it’s a good fit for the dance. We’re not going to act it out and dress up as Ross or Monica or anything. Well, that would be weird anyway since they’re siblings!

It’s a little difficult trying to work on the routine. I’ve been thinking a lot about stuff. I mean, I truly just do not get it. Brandy and everyone at the show have been extremely supportive. Erin’s been calling and I’ve talked to a few people. People close to me know how close I am to my family and that nothing else matters. Once in a while, Cheryl will say something and I’ll be like, “I’m about to start crying.” Otherwise, I’m quite strong. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Brandy and I don’t want to take away from her enjoying her experience. At the same time, I’m human. I’m going to do my best. I’m very responsible when it comes to teaching and definitely am not going to let Brandy down. Monday will be for grandma.

One more thing: Please tell your family and friends that you love them.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading.

Dancing With The Stars TV Alert

Just some quick mentions to put on your “Don’t Forget/TV Reminder” list!!! Some of the Dancing With The Stars pro dancers made a show for “Extreme Make-Over” this past summer. Here is some info from it from Reality TV Magazine.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC has another exciting episode coming up on October 17, when they travel to Wisconsin to build a new home for the Arboleda family. Joining the design team will be Dancing With the Stars dancers Mark Ballas, Tony Dolovani, Chelsie Hightower, and Derek Hough. Read on to find out about the dancing connection…

On the October 17 episode, Ty Pennington and his Extreme Makeover: Home Edition design team will be shown traveling to Wisconsin to help out the family of Rhex Arboleda, who has distinguished himself by establishing ‘Move To the Groove’, a program to help combat childhood obesity. The Arboleda family was thrilled to see that Ty and his team were accompanied by a group of dancers from Dancing With the Stars on Door Knock Day.

Derek Hough, Chelsie Hightower, Mark Ballas, and Tony Dolovani of Dancing With the Stars joined the build to show support, and also take part in a dancing demolition of the Arboleda’s 70 year-old home, which was compromising the health and welfare of Rhex and Claire Arboleda and their five children.

ET interviewed Derek about the upcoming episode. Here are a couple of snippets. Thanks to Heidi and PureDerekHough for this cool interview. Be sure to read the ET link for more.

Everyone who watches “Extreme Makeover” says it is emotional. Was it emotional for you?

Derek Hough: Absolutely. What made me want to do it in the first place was watching it and like everybody else getting emotional and seeing how fantastic it is to see these amazing families who do so much for the community but don’t really get anything back, to see their lives changed is phenomenal. To see it and be part of it … to see the whole process … and when they see their brand new house, it was a phenomenal experience.

How was being there and taking part in it? Was the experience as expected?

Derek Hough: It was amazing. I was really fortunate to be part of a build that was very successful and was, if anything, ahead of schedule. Talking to the designers, they have been on hundreds of builds and each one is unique because it is about the community and how they come together. It was really special to be a part of a build that was so amazing, so quick and so well-organized. It was a phenomenal experience. It mind-blowing to see something so amazing happen so quick.

Did you honestly believe when you were a kid that all this would be possible as a dancer? What exactly were you hoping when got into dance?

Derek Hough: I never just did dancing, I always did music and plays. I never really thought I would be a dancer person. I started playing drums before I did anything else in a [The] Beach Boys tribute band, so I thought I was going to be a rock star drummer. It is truly amazing to see how, especially with the show, it is absurd. To get a celebrity and put them in a rhinestone outfit and teach them how to do Latin or a ballroom dance in front of 23 million people, it is an absurd concept, but so fantastic, because it is so entertaining. It is cool to be part of, but, to be honest with you, I never thought I would be doing a cha-cha on live television.

What else is on your bucket list that you would want to accomplish?

Derek Hough: I have always done acting and theater growing up. I went to a theater arts college. For me, I want to do everything. I look at the late Patrick Swayze, and now, dancing with Jennifer [Grey] I am making comparisons. He is actually somebody who I look up to and would love to mold myself around. He was a dancer who then got onto a film, had dancing, on the soundtrack, he carried on to have a fabulous film career. For me, he is somebody I would definitely aspire to be like. I want to do it all. Also, direct things as well. Choreographing is virtually directing — just moving. You are creating a scene through movement. Kenny Ortega is a perfect example and Adam Shankman, who have become directors. I feel like I want to do it all, but everything I do, I would love to incorporate all aspects of entertainment. I think that is where we are at. It is a good time.

Here’s a preview of the show…

This “Extreme Make-Over” episode airs on this Sunday, Oct. 17th at 8:00pm ET.

Also, as reported earlier, Jennifer Grey is to guest on a HOUSE episode on Monday, 8:00 ET on FOX. Here is some information on this episode from TV Guide. Special thanks to fans ck410 & Kanani for helping with this information.

House Episode: “Unplanned Parenthood”
Season 7, Episode 5
Episode Synopsis: The mother (Jennifer Grey) of a newborn with breathing difficulties and liver failure must make a very difficult decision that could affect her own health as well as her baby’s. Meanwhile, Cuddy tells House to hire a woman for his team, and he delegates the task to Foreman and Taub. Cuddy also asks House to babysit her daughter, Rachel, and he and Wilson learn a parenting lesson in the process. Original Air Date: Oct 18, 2010

Here is more from The Daily Mail on it too and a still.

The 50-year-old – who sprang to fame in the 1980s classic Dirty Dancing – will play a new mother in the episode Unplanned Parenthood, which is due to be screened in the US on October 18.

The story sees Jennifer’s character Abbey faced with some difficult decisions when her newborn daughter begins suffering breathing difficulties and liver failure.

They fall under the care of Dr Gregory House – played by actor Hugh Laurie – and his team, who quickly make an alarming discovery about the baby’s condition.

And ultimately, Grey’s character is faced with a treatment option which could affect her own life as well as that of her daughter.

By appearing on the show, the actress is following in the footsteps of her father, Oscar-winning actor Joel Grey.

The actress’ character Abbey discovers her own life may be at risk when her newborn baby becomes ill
The veteran star made a guest appearance in the 2006 episode Informed Consent as a man who wanted medical help to end his life.

Grey has been a regular fixture on the small screen over the past couple of decades, following a successful film career in the 1980s that also included appearances in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Cotton Club and Red Dawn as well as Dirty Dancing.

She has starred in a string of TV movies and made guest appearances in several hit shows including Friends.
However Dancing With The Stars has put her firmly back in the spotlight.

From TV Fanatic, a preview;

I wonder if we’ll start seeing more of Jennifer Grey in the future in more TV and movie roles because of her roles on DWTS and HOUSE?

So, who plans to watch these shows? I know I will be. ;)
