DWTS Season 11, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What….and When?
So, our theme of the week is, I guess, that we will bring back as many old competitors as possible for the 200th episode. On the face of it, that doesn’t sound so bad, does it? And the very best part is that we apparently get an all pro dance to open the show on Monday night. Julianne is in town – wonder if we get to see her too? I realized last week that I missed her terribly from the show right now. I’m going to try very, very hard to not let the show annoy the hell out of me and just enjoy all it’s cheesiness. (Heh – Amen my sister at MSNBC)
Anyway, the part that doesn’t sound so good is the “guest judges” – Gilles, Kelly, Emmett, Helio, Drew and Mel B. I believe I read somewhere that Gilles is judging Brandy and Maks – and I think that is about the extent of my knowledge on the topic. I’m actually living in a state of denial on this 4th judge thing. Potentially horrendous idea unless they’re all pushovers who save us from the likes of Carrie Ann and the occasionally cranky Len. I don’t think any of them, particularly Kelly, are in any position to judge.
If that wasn’t enough crap thrown into one episode, we also have the re-vamped team dances. I always liked the team dances a good deal as I like seeing the everyone work together. The Kristi and Apollo team captain thing – that’s largely a sham, since Apollo hasn’t been in LA all week, but on a book signing tour. That’s going to be all for show, I imagine, and probably a good deal of fun, since we get Derek, Maks, Apolo and Kurt all on one extremely YUMMY team. 
Win or lose, they’ll be hot and testosterone-y. Still not sure how the judging is going to work and there is a high potential for bad dancing or injury this week. If everything I’m seeing and hearing is correct, there could be as many as 2 pro dances – all pros involved. Normally I would love this, but I’m seeing a ton of tweets from very tired pro dancers – 2 pro dances, a team dance and an individual dance? Hope no one gets hurt.
:::sigh::: Anyway. Guest judges, team dances with guest captains, returning celebs and pros…why do I feel exhausted already?? Both teams are doing Cha Cha Cha, with Kristi’s team using her and Mark’s freestyle as a theme (Workin’ Day and Night). Apolo told his team today to “Bust a Move”, so….. Here’s the individual dances for each of the teams (I’ll update if I hear/read more):

If Apolo hints at using the song Bust-A-Move, I guess that means each team is using the team captain’s freestyle song for their team dance. Although wiki says they’re doing Push-It for Apolo’s team, which I loved, I don’t believe everything posted on their. I’m also not liking the guests judges actually scoring a designated couple. I don’t think they know a lot to judge, but then again, Michael Flatley and Baz Luhrman weren’t the best judges.
Totally agree with you Heidi the celebrity judge idea is BAD BAD BAD! Allowing people who don’t know the technical aspects of the dance to influence 50% of a couples score at an important time of the season is a real injustice to the competitors. In a season that has seen a lot of missteps this one could be the worst blunder of them all!
I fhtye wanted guest judges this week thye should have gotten all the past celbrity winners (kelly, drew, emmitt, helio, apollo, shawn, kristi, nicole, donny, and brooke) to guest judge not theo nes they chose. Giles and kelly are great and all but come on. I f Brooke couldn’t guest judge than maybe Evan or keep mel b in the fold but come on. On a side note, I hope that Kristi’s team wins it all. She got all my votes the season she competed and is the best winner they have ever had (Nicole being a close second).
Ok, I have a question (and feel free to point at me and go “You big dummy!” if this has already been addressed): the team captains are actually performing with their teams, right? If so – who are they partnered with? A random pro not already involved in the team dances? Or are they not performing, and are there as just more of a coach? This is so screwy and it’s pissin’ me off…
Poo on 4th guest judge. I’m hoping & praying the guest judges are just total pushovers and have nothing but sunshine and rainbows for the couples they’re judging. Are they actually going to give a score as well, or just verbal critiques?

Yeah, they’re only serving as team captains to help and motivate their team. They’re not performing with them, because if they were, Apolo would’ve been at a huge disadvantage since he didn’t really get to see his team as much. It was weird how the picked the order though. Kristi said that Apolo won the coin toss and chose Jennifer first, and kristi picked Bristol. Then of course Apolo chose Brandy, then kristi chose Rick, Apolo chose Kurt, and Kyle was last pick.
I know no one what dance Jen and Derek have tonight (which is strange and wonder why) but I heard rumors (not sure where) that most likely they have a song Mel B. had.

It looks by the format of it, I’m assuming the celebrity judge is judging the couple that is doing the same song that they danced to. I thought I read Helio was judging Rick and Cheryl, which means banana man quickstep routine? Obviously not exactly the same, but makes me wonder if he’ll wear a similar suit.
I don’t know what Jennifer has either, but it’s not Mel B – that’s what Kyle has. Rick = Helio, Kurt = Emmit. That’s all I know. And yes, Bust a Move for team Apolo

Although, it would be great if Julianne IS dancing, she’s been in LA since Friday night, so it’s possible.
I’m wondering if the ones they chose to “redo” are the ones who A) were able to fit it into their schedule, and B) were able to get the song re-cleared for use tonight?
Can I just use this comment to complain again about the constant need for themes this season? And that we’ve only had TWO WEEKS so far that were THEME-FREE! REALLY!

Yeah that is a bad Tango song for Kurt, but unless they got it changed in the past couple days that’s what they’re stuck with.

Yeah, Steve – I feel like I’ve read lots of stuff on who has what, but I’m no longer sure what is real and what was speculation.
Sue, as for Derek and Jennifer being very quiet – it appears that Derek, among other pros, has been spending very long days at the studio. He has a tendency to go silent anyway and Jennifer has never been a huge tweeter.
I went to Apolo’s book signing on Friday night and he specifically said he was NOT dancing tonight. He did say he was spending Sat-Tues at DWTS though leading me to wonder if he and/or Kristi will somwhow be involved with Skating With the Stars. Timing of that announcement a little too convenient.

My reference is myself, not anything I saw online. I’m most excited about the team dances today. At least I’m excited about Derek’s team – I don’t know much about the other one.

Then again, also hard to believe that Emmitt’s “Simply Irresistible” tango was his “iconic” dance. Really? He got 19 (his lowest score) on that. [Not that my opinion matters but] I think Emmitt’s waltz (29) for Jennifer and Drew’s tango for Kurt would have made more sense. If only I was in charge….. LOL

Andie, Apolo won the coin toss and that was why he chose first – it wasn’t a matter of “Ooh OOH! Me first, me first!” like you’re trying to make it seem. And I certainly don’t blame him for picking who he did – I think Kristi made a big mistake picking Mark & Bristol first (despite Mark being her former partner), because I doubt Apolo would’ve snatched those two up eagerly…a much more strategic move for her would have been picking Brandy & Maks first, and then Bristol & Mark. Can’t blame Apolo for capitalizing upon Kristi’s poor strategizing. And Rick and/or Kyle getting sent home just because they’re black? PUH-LEASE. I know you love Rick and somehow think he’s been getting screwed over this season, but so far I think he’s skated on by with some good technique but increasingly ho-hum performances. And Kyle is the exact opposite – mediocre technique but great performance value. If either one gets sent home this week, it’s because they’re not the full package like some of the other couples in the competition. But hey, if it’s gonna bug you – don’t watch.
Ooh wee – the more I think about it, the more screwed I think Kristi’s team is going to be. I don’t think Lacey or Mark have ever won the team dances they’ve been in (if memory serves, Mark was only in that disastrous team mambo in season 8 to “Single Ladies”, and Lacey was in that feeble team cha-cha in season 7 to “Mercy” and the team paso doble in season 9 to “I Hate Myself for Loving You” – all 3 of the above teams lost), and I could see them either a) butting heads over choreography, or b) coming up with stuff that’s so off-the-wall that the judges can’t stand it. Ai ai ai.
Yep, Court, I agree – and what is with Mark and his crazy stuff this season?? The monkey suit thing still blows me away. The air guitar thing wasn’t too bad but then he complained about Len docking them a point knowing full well that Len would hate it.
I generally don’t like either Lacey or Mark’s choreo, either, so they could be in trouble. You never know – they could pull it out or the judges could still be smoking crack. Personally, I think the latter is more likely.
Good Lord…. they’re turning what was a really fun, entertaining show about ballroom dancing into something worse than a cheap carnival side-show!

I’m excited about the group dances. IDK how the hell they are going to score all of what, but the dancing im excited for. Last years was pretty good I thought. I just hope for the individual dances, we do not get another week of inflated scores.
The show is bullshit and you guys know it. Of course it’s racist. They got rid of Mario Barrett when they shouldn’t have. They’ll get rid of Kyle or Rick.

If it offends you so much, then why do you watch it, Andie? If the show is indeed racist, they could’ve fooled me, considering 13 finalists in the show’s history (including 4 champions) have been minorities. If anyone is making this about race, it’s YOU – I find your comment about Kurt being “too white” offensive and if you continue make comments like it, I will not only delete them but ban you permanently. Cut it out.
But the entire show is manipulated so bad it’s nauseating. NO Courtney, I won’t be watching, there’s no point anymore.
All these speculations are getting confusing lol. I think having Emmitt for Jennifer and Drew for Kurt might make a little more sense.(just a little) I originally read that Kurt had Drew as his guest judge, but then I heard different things today and I can’t seem to find my source, but whatever, I guess i’ll be surprised (for better or worse) tonight.
Well, Andie, if you don’t watch anymore, you best not comment anymore. To comment in such a manner on a show you don’t watch is trolling. Kristi’s pick was based on loyalty – she could have had Brandy instead. If they lose she has no one to blame but herself. Nice that you think it’s a foregone conclusion though.
Just a general thought on the way home from work…it’s interesting to see how the pros’ track records from previous team dances stack up:
Team Apolo:
Derek – has been in all 4 team dances and won every time
Maks – has been in 1 team dance & lost
Anna – has been in 1 team dance & lost
Team Kristi:
Mark – has been in 1 team dance & lost
Lacey – has been in 2 team dances & lost both times
Cheryl – has been in 3 team dances & won every time
Both teams are comprised of a pro that’s never lost, and 2 pros that have never won; the two pros that have never lost have always been on the same team (until now); the two pros on Team Apolo that lost both did so in the same team dance; and the two pros on Team Kristi that lost have never been in the same team dance. More and more, I’m thinking Kristi’s team is absolutely doomed, unless Cheryl can bust out something phenomenal…
Ooh, just remembered – Lacey & Mark have been in a team dance together (the “Single Ladies” team mambo), but Lacey was a last-minute fill-in for Melissa Rycroft when she got injured. So technically not one of the original team members, but still – another losing team she was on.
I think the fact that everyone is saying Apolo’s team will win is jinxing then so they’re certain to lose.

Andie, cool down and let’s watch the show tonight and then see what happens. The show might have taken turn for the worst last week or even this year. But, let’s not let that rule the day when we’ve had more great shows than bad these last 11 seasons.
Plus, let’s not forget too we have some innocent contestants and pros here who are really working their asses off, whose center IS “dancing”, and they have no control over what the producers and judges are doing.
Besides, if you give up on the show now, who is going to be Johnny Wier’s # 2 fan when he agrees to do the show someday? I say #2 because I will be his #1 fan. So, watch out. :p

Seriously, go Team Ohno! Hopefully Team Kristi doesn’t pull the sympathy card. It’s interesting to see that Team Ohno has one of the “young” choreographers and two Russians, while Team Kristi has all young choreographers. However, Lacey’s choreography skills aren’t that great since the last time she was in a team dance, she had a lot of pros against her choregraphy.
LOL at the show being racist. I feel the need to point out that 3 of the 6 remaining contestants are black.
So that gives a 50% chance that a black/African American person may get voted off on Tuesday.
But, that also means that there is a 50% chance that a white/Caucasian person may get voted off on Tuesday.
Let’s just wait and see how they all do on individual and team dances.
Steve – good point about the choreographers on Team Kristi. This is not firsthand knowledge, but I hear that Mark took charge of the team Kristi choreography just as Derek did for Team Ohno. Whatever that tells us

I’m so confused as to who’s doing what that I think it’s just time to sit back and watch the show.
Same here Heidi. The show starts in about another hour here. I could watch it online. But, I think I miss a lot of moves and such when I do that. So, I’m watching it on the bigger screen tonight. I’m looking forward to putting my feet up and taking it all in. More later after the show everyone. Have fun!

What an enjoyable show this was. Loved it! Everybody did great, but it’s probably gonna be Bristol or Kurt leaving.
Oh yeah, Cheesecake will be interesting. Mainly because the judges were smoking a bit too much happy gas this week. Bristol gets that score for not moving her arms?? Or the rest of her other than her feet?
Hell, not one dance was what I would call “great” except for Team Apolo. Everyone had mistakes I thought but the right two are at the top and the right two are at the bottom – but the spread is NOT good.
I should add that I really enjoyed the show very much over all. Was a little frustrated with how nice they were being to Bristol and Kyle – Rick too for that matter as I thought that was a pretty sloppy dance.
But the focus was on dance and lots of dance – so that was great!
There wasn’t a breathtaking dance where everything comes together, but there were still great dances. Brandy&Maks were just plain hot, Jennifer&Derek brought the techique, Kyle did great. Those were the best for me.
I liked it! There was a LOT more focus on dancing tonight! I thought Jennifer and Derek did great, as did Brandy and Maks. This is what DWTS should be!
My guess is that Bristol is going home tomorrow. All things considered, she’s the weakest dancer.
I was not feeling the Team Apolo dance at all! Yes it was danced decently (big surprise) but I didn’t get any chemistry from the three of them…and Kurt looked incredibly awkward. I was more into the Team Kristi dance (as far as performance factor goes)…and they had the 2 worst dancers on their team!
The icing on top was the pro dance at the beginning. Why can’t we have that every week, on the results show?
I actually enjoyed the show tonight which is a big surprise. I agree with David about the team dances. I enjoyed Team Kristi more. I’m not a fan of Brandy’s, but I thought she was fantastic tonight. I thought Rick looked like a big green lug out there. 9s??? Give me a break! Loved Jennifer and Derek also, but thought there was an akward moment there during the interview when Jennifer told him to stop touching her or something. What was that about?

I loved it from the opening pro dance (how awesome was that?!!) to the end. I had such low expectations and I was pleasantly surprised by the guest judges (although Gilles is a heel imo) and the group dances. Whew!! I like the show again! What a relief.
On a completely unrelated note- there is a video automatically loading on the home page which is annoying. Is it also loading for other people? If so, can it be fixed?
I thought Team Kristi’s dance was BORING – but then, I’ve never been a fan of Mark’s choreo. I also thought Kurt did a million times better than Bristol. That girl was stiff all night and still got her ass kissed.
I missed team dances. :sob Will catch them tomorrow.

Oh Meggie, thank god someone agrees with me on Rick tonight (although I couldn’t disagree more about Tean Kristi). I thought that dance was a mess – I don’t know what the judges were looking at.
I think Derek was pinching her arm or playing with her strap or something. I adore that boy, but he would drive me nuts after a while with the patting and the rubbing. Unless he was removing clothing at the time, of course.
I don’t know the code to make it stop – I think John does though. If he can’t fix it I’ll rip it and upload it to Youtube.
I also didn’t like Rick tonight. He seemed forced- like he was going: “I should be having fun, I should be enjoying this..”
I’m just thinking crazy things right now- wouldn’t it be awesome if a guest judge went: “You know, I didn’t really like it”. lol lol Surprisingly Kelly O. came closest to that.
I enjoyed the night for the most part. Definitely liked Team Apolo better. I was surprised that Carrie Ann said Team Kristi was in sync, because towards the end, you could tell they were clearly out of sync. I thought Brandy and Jennifer did the best of the night, although Brandy sometimes looks gangly during her standard dances. No surprise, I thought Rick was overscored again this week. Definite improvement on performances, althought at times I think it took it literally. However, I thought he was slow in the quickstep and Cheryl does a lot to cover his weaknesses. Plus I didn’t like that she threw in those cheek to cheek kisses that she did with Wayne in his quickstep.
Kurt got screwed in “iconic” dances but I think he did better than Emmitt did. I also like Anna’s costume choice and direction she went with the tango, unlike Cheryl’s version. I understand about the posture, and it is mind boggling that the simple steps are the hardest for Kurt. Hope he stays though, because I have a thing for Anna
Bristol was boring this week and when she had her arms out, it looked like a plane kind of sailing around. She needs to show more personality or emotion for that matter. She looked so unenthusiastic when she said, “we were thrilled” to work with the group. Maybe we need to have a bear or something on the dance floor to ignite something in her, or a moose. I thought we would see some improvement in the team dance from her, since she had done the cha cha before, but might I say, it looked worse than her first one.
Kyle’s was 50-50 for me. I think he looks really silly doing all the dances. Even the paso looked silly and I don’t like Lacey’s choreography of making everything really sexual looking. It doesn’t help that Kyle looks silly and she’s trying to be some crazy sex kitten. I thought they were a tad over scored too. He did save the team dance though, because I thought he was the best one.

If Bristol isn’t cut tonight the whole Country should be asking how much Sarah Palin is paying. My guess is that Sarah and her dozen lawyers on her staff negotiated a clause saying that the judges couldn’t start giving her low scores or negative comments until she had been on for some period of time like seven episodes. Every week she wiggles her hips and waves her arms in the air (saying: look at me! Look at me!) but the judges don’t even comment about her lack of effort or energy and the fact that she doesn’t spend much time practicing. Poor Mark spends all his energy trying to make up for the fact that Bristol is heavy and needs a tow truck to drag her all around the dance floor–and then he keeps giving her kisses and love pats so that everyone will think that she is sexy. By now we all have figured out that she is going to be saved each week by Mama Grizzly’s fans and the only questions left are when is the baby due? and who is the baby’s daddy?
