DWTS Season 11, Week 9 – Controversial Media Continues, A New Poll, & More
So, for starters, I’m curious. If you were mainly a “Maks and Brandy” fan and/or voting for them a lot before (like I was. I also threw some votes every week to others like Audrina and Jennifer), who will you support now?
Me?>>> all the way may to Jennifer and Derek!! All bets are off.lol
Speaking of Maks, he gave E Online an interview. In this interview, he quotes how “rediculous” the show is this Season. He also brought up a quote from Bristol where she said he “hated her” which, he said, isn’t true. You have to wonder how much a comment like that played into the votes this week? Here’s a take. Be sure to read more at the link. Special thanks to PureDWTS fan Carlie for this news.
Are you mad at all about it?I felt really disappointed with Bristol. On Monday night, I found out that she went on record saying that I said something about her along the lines of, “I don’t like her because she’s still here and she’s not a good enough dancer.” Every time I’ve opened my mouth about Bristol, I’ve been nothing but supportive…For her to come out on Monday night and totally smear my name the way she did, that’s just completely uncalled for…I have no idea where she got it from, but wherever she got it from, shame on her and shame on whoever told her that.
What about the alleged right-wing conspiracy theory keeping Bristol on the show? Are you starting to believe it?I definitely think that the system is flawed. I think there are a lot of problems with it. I have a lot of friends in the Philadelphia area who couldn’t call at all. People here, in front of me, picked up the phone, dialed one time and it said, “Thank you for voting. You are over your limit.” Anybody crazy would think, “This is a conspiracy theory. Everybody’s out there and wants Bristol to win.” Not at all. I think it’s just a flawed system.
Do you think Bristol could win?I really don’t care. I think at this point I’m rooting for Kyle [Massey] because this kid has come on with no fan base, with not a known name, not someone who is in incredible shape or had a phenomenal dance background…Kyle does have the same resilience as Bristol, same dance ability as Jennifer [Grey], but he’s just that kid next door…I think he’s amazing.
Maks also discussed the elimination to People. He also addressed the Bristol quote again.
As Chmerkovskiy comforted his teary-eyed partner backstage, the pro dancer admitted to facing some hurdles during the season.
“Most recently, Bristol said I don’t like her,” Chmerkovskiy said. “I never said it. I just want to make sure that people understand that I’m just a dancer. That’s all I am, and I don’t aspire to be a politician at all. I express my opinion when it comes to only dancing. This season, I’ve been so focused on Brandy that I really didn’t look at anybody else.”
Here is the exact original quote from what Bristol said to In Touch Weekly.
Some viewers are criticizing Bristol Palin’s longevity on this season’s Dancing With the Stars, and according to the Alaskan beauty, certain fellow dancers are giving her the cold shoulder, as well! “Maks (Chmerkovskiy) does not like me. He thinks I don’t deserve to be here because I’m not the best dancer,” Bristol tells In Touch about contestant Brandy’s professional partner. The reality star, who remains amongst the final four pairs on the ABC hit dancing competition series, thinks she even has a chance to win the mirror ball trophy. “The show is all about taking someone who has never performed, never danced and turning them into a dancer,” she explains. “I guarantee I am the most improved. I really do work my butt off!”
I’m with Maks. It was totally uncool that she smeared his name like that before the show for something that wasn’t true and that he never said.
Erin Andrews also spoke on the elimination at Movie Line. She also remarked how a bunch of Maks fans were sending her tweets blaming her for the elimination. Huh?? Crazy…this is so out of control.
Before we descend into a real discussion about Brandy and Maks’s elimination, let’s talk about their dances. How’d you feel they did? You’ll remember they scored a perfect 30 once.
I thought they did great. As always, they were very, very solid. The paso she did, she just showed that aggression and attitude. The paso is very angry, and I thought it was perfect. I just really, really enjoyed her paso a lot. With the Argentine Tango, I actually thought they had great luck because those are Maks’s strongest dances that he choreographs. Those were my two favorite dances that I did with him. They also obviously got the encore, which was wonderful. I thought the judges did a great job scoring them. And she was really good. One thing she did great with this week was her emotions. She chilled out a bit, and she even referenced it when she was getting her scores. Now, I will tell you a little side note, my friend. Our little Movieline chat last week caused a big, big stir with Brandy’s fans. I got some not-so-nice tweets about that.Oh, God.Oh, you have no idea! Brandy had to call off the hounds and tell everyone to just relax. It’s kind of funny, because if you watched the show last night, Mark Ballas said the same exact thing I said in that pre-produced package. You can just tell how bad she wants it. Then they showed all these shots of her closing her eyes and being really intense. I never said that as a bad thing! That’s too bad that people misinterpreted it. My whole thing is — and I’m sure I’ll get criticized again — is I wanted her to enjoy the experience for what it is. It doesn’t matter if you win the mirror ball trophy or not. It’s about having the best experience and making the most out of the journey. But oh my goodness, I didn’t know that was such a terrible thing to say. And now I’m getting blamed for her losing as well! I appreciated her performance this week. I thought she did a very good job and was really relatable to fans at home. I thought this was probably the most real we saw her throughout the entire season.
Well, people would have to be idiots to blame you for Brandy’s elimination. It’s pretty obvious that Bristol has a big voting machine behind her, Kyle’s become an underdog favorite, and that means a consistently solid competitor like Brandy is bound to fall through the cracks at the last moment.
And also, don’t blame it on me — I put my votes in! Give me a break! I saw Brandy and Maks on Good Morning America this morning and on Jimmy Kimmel last night, and they were saying, “People say ‘I don’t want that person to win,’ and then they don’t vote for the person they want to win.’” I went on Good Morning America on Tuesday morning and talked about Bristol, and they asked me, “Is there a conspiracy?” And I said, “No! She’s just getting more votes! People are flooding the phone lines to vote for her!” At this point, all the negative publicity that she’s getting — all the Tea Party, Sarah Palin, “She shouldn’t be there!”, Rick and Kurt and Brandy were robbed! — I think this has helped her. From my standpoint, I felt like after she did her first dance on Monday, she got some of the loudest applause in the ballroom. I feel like now, people just feel bad. Is it her fault that she’s gone out there and done the best she can do? No. She knows she’s not the best dancer. She said that. It’s pretty obvious. But is it her fault that people are flooding the phone lines for her? No! In the end, what is she supposed to do? “I can’t take all this negative criticism. I’m going to quit.” No! What has she done wrong? I think there are a lot of people who feel bad for her, and they think, “You know what, I’m going to vote for her.” I feel bad!Your beloved Maks was eliminated. He has still never won the mirror ball trophy. How would you describe your feelings about what happened with him?I’m heartbroken for Maks. Despite what Brandy’s fans feel about me, I clearly thought they were going to win the whole thing. I said that the first time he had her. I even texted him that. “You’ve got it. You’re going to win.” As much as we say, “It’s a TV show!” it’s also part of his profession. You always want to be considered the best at your profession. I feel personally bad that I wasn’t able to get him the mirror ball. You feel a little regret there as well. I’m very sad for Maks. He works so hard and does nothing but try to make his stars feel so comfortable and beautiful. He makes sure they feel prepared. Many times, these pro dancers do so much more than teach you a routine. They are your friend, and really, your best friend throughout the whole thing. For me, because I didn’t know LA, Maks helped me get adjusted to a new area. He helped me with so much more than on the dance floor, and it sounds like from everything Brandy has said, like “I have a friend for life” — he was the same way with her. In that respect, you know the work he put into this season. You just love that he’s in it to win it. He has a lot of pride. I feel so bad.
Erin also discusses all the dances plus what she hopes for the upcoming dances. Will Jennifer and Derek do a dance to “(I’ve Had The)Time Of My Life”? I’m with Erin. I hope so. Be sure to read the link for more.
So, here are some things we didn’t see on the Results show reported by People.
• Mark Ballas explained the black nail polish he displayed on his fingers during Tuesday night’s show, telling PEOPLE that it wasn’t Palin who gave him the manicure, and for the finals, he is “thinking hot pink with rhinestones. I’m trying to get a nail endorsement.”
• Enrique Iglesias received one of the warmest welcomes of any of the guest performers this season. When cameras weren’t rolling and he hopped on the stage, a group of girls chanted, “Hi Enrique!” The crowd then screamed as Iglesias gave several friendly waves. But when he asked everyone to sing the lyrics to his hit single, “I Like It,” he told them their attempt “sucked,” adding, “That was bad. Let’s try again.”
• The two couples deemed safe right away during elimination – Grey and Hough along with Massey and Schwimmer – came out during commercial break to hug and kiss the two couples in jeopardy. But the couples up for elimination didn’t interact at all. Standing right next to each other and not saying a word, Chmerkovskiy looked slightly nervous, swaying back and forth with his hands in his pockets, while Palin flipped her hair and giggled.
And this will make Heidi’s day complete. lol Here is Tom on the elimination from Zap2it.
“You get down to this point, and it’s always going to be hard, but I was surprised,” Bergeron tells Zap2it. “I would have thought she was going to the finals.”
Bergeron generally knows about the eliminations beforehand — other than during the finale, when he wants to be surprised — and this was no exception. But that didn’t prepare him for how the news was received in the studio.
“I don’t think I’ve ever done this at the end of the show,” says Bergeron. “I just said ‘I need a hug.’ Everyone was just standing around. No one knew what to do.”
Contributing a bit to the awkward quotient was the judges’ offer for Brandy to return to the finals to perform her freestyle… for fun.
“That kind of landed with a thud,” says Bergeron. “I suppose it was meant with all good intention, but if I had just been stunned and found out I wasn’t going to make it to the final, the prospect of busting my butt to do a freestyle wouldn’t have much appeal. I would fully understand if they politely decline.”
Brandy didn’t comment on whether or not she was interested in returning with a freestyle, but it was clear during the broadcast that she was still digesting the news.
“I thought Brandy wanted it more than anything, quite frankly” says Bergeron, “which made it very hard.”
Here is Carrie Ann with her thoughts on the show this week too on “Lopez Tonight“.
Lastly, The Examiner is reporting that Christina Aguilera will be performing on next week’s Results Show. Christina is promoting her first major motion picture (movie) starring role in ‘Burlesque,’ opposite Cher. ‘Burlesque’ opens in theaters November 24. (Heidi Note: Another blog is saying that the four dances over two nights will be done BEFORE anyone is eliminated, unlike last season where the 3 couples danced 3 times, someone was eliminated, and then the remaining couples danced again. The dances are:the “redemption dance” and the freestyle on Monday, followed on tuesday by the couples favorite dance of the season and by an “insta-dance” Cha Cha Cha where they don’t get the music till the show starts. I’m looking for an actual source from ABC – when I find it Vogue or I will post it. The ramifications of them moving the all the dances to before anyone is eliminated is quite interesting.)
Ok, that is all for you for now. Have a great Thursday, Dancettes!!xx 😉
Nicely done! Just an fyi, on the poll you have “brandy and mark” instead of “bristol and mark”
OOps. I am so sorry for that mistake. *hides*
In the opening monolog, G Lopez really had some things to say about Bristol and none of them were remotely kind.
They showed a picture of Bristol & Mark with Bristol’s arms extended and Lopez commented something about them looking like turkey legs…can’t remember the other stuff but it was brutal. Guess Sarah will never appear on his show….lol
Most of the Palin stuff was near the beginning and at the end…sorry you’ll have to filter through it. Here’s a link to what he had to say.
http://tinyurl.com/2ee73ky
What’s really bothering me are the very personal and hateful comments that are being made about Bristol. They are tantamount to cyber-bullying, in my opinion. I love Dancing with the Stars as much as anyone, but for goodness sake people, it’s just a T.V. Dance Contest.
And, in regards to Bristol saying that Maks didn’t like her, well, I saw enough of his bad attitude this season to believe that he very well could have said it. IMO, it was partly his attitude that turned viewers off to the couple. They had been in the bottom two every week since his very unprofessional outburst at Carrie Ann—not to mention the spanking episode.
I will be frank. I’m not rooting for Bristol Palin. However, I think George Lopez’s comments about her weight were in poor taste, especially considering he is overweight, and his ex-wife (the one who gave him a kidney and the one he cheated on) is overweight, as is at least one of his girlfriends.
Also, I’m not so sure Maks didn’t tell someone he didn’t like Bristol. Not saying it did happen, but I know he denied calling Lacey fat and Lacey said she didn’t believe him. I think the link to the Lacey interview about Maks is still online because I saw it just the other day.
I also feel badly about how Brandy’s fans (some of her fans of course) have been hassling other people via twitter. It’s just so strange to me that someone would do that kind of thing.
I think people should remember that it’s people voting for Bristol. Not Bristol voting for Bristol. If you need to blame, blame the ones casting the votes.
And really? Bristol fat?? PUHLEESE!! Compared to the extremely slender Jen and Brandy of course she looks bigger. She’s a KID for heaven’s sake! She’s probably the one with the healthiest weight of them all.
She’s not my favorite person, believe me. I find her far too stern and uptight as she comes across most of the time, but good God, she’s not the anti-Christ!
(And honestly? I think it was Kyle’s overscored second dance that lost it for Brandy. I think Bristol has been constantly on top by a long shot in the viewer votes.)
I think Bristol opened herself up to the good comments and the bad ones as well when she went from a private citizen to a public one by appearing on DWTS.
That said, I’m a little amazed at the really nasty things being said about her. I’m not a Palin (any of them) fan but some of what Lopez said was just cruel.
I think it’s just a sign of what this country is turning into…a bunch of name calling pack of wolves…on both sides.
Have you seen this? TPTB are reviewing the voting system because of Bristol:
http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/zwecker/2904534,zwecker-dancing-111810.article
Vogue, I too am on Team Jenougher now! I’ve always liked her and I take back what I said about her not being that good, because this week’s Cha Cha had me pumped! And yes, Derek deserves that 3rd Trophy! He always makes his partners shine and Jennifer is rocking it! TEAM JENOUGHER!!!!!!
With all due respect, just because you think someone is capable of saying something doesn’t mean they did. There is no quote from any source that Maks said anything bad about Bristol. In fact, in every interview I’ve seen where she is brought up he says she deserves to be there – both before & after elimination. Bristol just offered up that comment to Intouch so I’m going to side with Maks on this one. He has every right to be disappointed in someone doing that. This is all coming from Bristol.
Given all she & her family has been thru you would think she might actually check it out before just making a statement like that. I read where someone told her after the show that Maks never said that and her response: “good to know”.
I think both of Kyle’s dances were heavily over scored, Evaine. I outright didn’t like the first one for the same reason I often don’t care for Mark’s dances – trying too hard.
I have to side with Michelle on this one – Vogue and I see just about everything printed and on video and he’s never, to my knowledge, mentioned Bristol by name or said he didn’t like her – and if he EVER said she wasn’t a good dancer that is news to me, but he’s certainly entitled to that opinion without disliking her. And you guys know that I get called a Maks “hater” all the time for having the utter nerve to not worship him, so it’s not like I’m blind to his faults. That’s one of the big problems on the net and elsewhere right now – you say that so and so isn’t a good dancer and you’re suddenly a hater. Very simplistic and immature.
Considering the shit that Bristol and Willow got into on Facebook this week, I think I’ll go with Maks on this one. The Palins like to dish it out, but none of them can seem to take it.
Good to know I’m not alone, Heidi! *g* And generally I enjoy Kyle’s performances. He makes me smile, but this time.. I was like… dude, where’s the sparkle?
So, I’m laying the largest part of the blame for this cocked-up season, if blame there is to be laid, at the feet of the judges.
*sigh* I just want my beautiful, cheezy, sexy, fun show back.
I sincerely love Dancing with the stars however this season semi finals have left my mouth agap. They have done this wonderful entertainment a disfavor by knowingly accepting a daughter of a political figure on the program. This was not about dancing it was about a well organized political party phone in campaign. This is not what the viewers deserve. Everyone all the dancers work hard not just Bristol as she mentioned in one of her comments. I want the best dancer. Change the way you mark make it fair it was a disgrace this time around.
Bristol is getting damn cocky..
Agreed, Evaine. With all this political talk, conspericy theories, etc. Its making this show just plain not fun, I just like to lean back and enjoy the show and the CHEESE, which apparently is hard to find this week, I also am taking the Intouch weekly article about Bristol and the article claiming Maks said Bristol was a bad dancer with a major grain of salt, I agree NOT COOL if Bristol said that but we all know what the tabloids do to twist things dont we. Gosh… * mega sigh *
Well, I think that ALMOST ALL dances this week were really overscored.
I’ve said this on another post. But I’ll try to talk about some points.
Paso – Brandy had some troubles on her footwork. She did small, specially with the “passes” when she kicks and maksim leads her to pass… just check it. Her footwork was, yes, precise, but not so sharp. (And I really missed a skirt =p).
Tango – I didn’t like her arms, but the score was deserved.
Jen
Chacha- perfect. And she was really really hot. Nice dress.
Waltz – I liked they turn all stage light off. Was really interesting. Beautiful dance, her shoulders were a little up sometimes, but, ok perfect score.
Bristol
Paso – Great beginning. But after the chorus, she lost a little bit her balance. But, yes her best dance. Did she deserved 3X9? no. She still need to work on her faces and body expression.
Waltz – I didn’t like the death waltz, but it fits to hers. I didn’t like her posture on hold, sometimes, and again, her face expressions, but was a good end. not for 9s… her paso was better.
Kyle –
Samba – his arms where a litle strange. But I like his efforts, even when he’s trying too hard. Less 1 or 2 points, it would be OK.
Tango – strange song.I was worried about lacey’s choreography, but it was ok. Just don’ liked when she danced “alone” in front of him. His legs wasn’t so good. Not perfect, but almost.
IMHO, and It’s really really serious, the problem of this whole season was the unfair judges scores (for example, Bristol specially on weeks 3, 4 and 6-until now. I don’t buy this thing “she’s improving blablabla” she improved very slowly, must say, different from Kelly O. as someone said here on some puredwts comment)
I know that viewers may be crazy and vote for Bristol because of politics, but I think if the scores were fair since the beginning of the season, she wouldn’t be on finals.
(But Heidi, don’t take serious what I’m going to say, but I think you really don’t like Kyle since the beginning of the season… =p)
Vogue, Awesome article!! Never mind the mistake your still great. 🙂
You know, Zach, the only thing I can remember Maks saying – and yes I am a HUGE Maksim Chmerkovskiy fan (Yes, she officially outs herself. *g*) – is that Bristol wasn’t as good of a dancer as some of the others on the show, but that she had made GREAT improvements since the beginning of the season. From what I’ve seen and heard, he’s been nothing but positive and supportive – maybe not effusively so, but hell, Bristol doesn’t really engender warmth in folks, you know?
Bah! It’s all so STOOOOPID!! *goes to watch Maks and Brandy’s AT again*
Thank you Zach!! 😉 xxx
The result from the semi-finals was a combination of the political vote AND the judges scoring. Both Kyle (whom I like) and Bristol (whom I don’t) were overscored which helped lead to Brandy’s departure. It is my belief Kyle and Brandy’s fanbases were fairly close in numbers; therefore, had Brandy been a few points above Kyle she may have gone to the finals leaving Kyle shut out. Of course, what’s done is done & we’ll never know at this point.
For all the comments I read about Brandy having an attitude, it is Bristol IMO that has an attitude. I get that people perhaps had a hard time relating to Brandy but she was always gracious to and about the judges, Maks, other celebs, the process, etc…so I really don’t understand the bad attitude comments.
Bristol has (paraphrasing) said she doesn’t like certain dances, is not fake like some of the others, was not giving it her all at times, made a face & talked about the judges in her confessional last week, etc… So pardon me but I’ll take Brandy’s attitude over Bristol’s. : )
At this point, I’m not sure if I’ll vote next week or not. If I do, it won’t be for Bristol as I don’t find her most improved, most entertaining, or the best dancer.
See, Evaine, Your right! Thats like textbook tabloids! They take out the possitive then twist the negative into something much worse than it actually was.Man its So annoying like as if there wasnt enough crap floating around lately regaurding dwts, now we get ” Dance War: Maks vs Bristol. Yay…
I am really torn. I don’t know who to vote for on Monday. Who is more in danger of getting Bristoled? Kyle? Jennifer?
I’m voting for Kyle.
He just looks like he is having so much fun out there on the dance floor and he makes me smile. Jennifer is the best dancer of the 3 but I just like Kyle.
Me not like Kyle Carlos?? You’re sounding like Bristol. 🙂 Anything less than effusive praise is dislike. Please. Go back and read everything I’ve written since the beginning of the season – I liked Kyle until about the halfway point.
“I will be basing my votes on whoever has the best dances next week?” Most fascinating that this answer is garnering less than 9 percent at present!!!
“He always makes his partners shine.” Very true. There are many wonderful styles or approaches to dancing. But in reviewing all of Nicole S. and Jennifer’s dances on You Tube, there sure are some artistic, wonderful, lovely, enchnating, you name it performances. This is what I enjoy about the show; not interested in reality TV, per se.Derek knows what works for him and his partners. You also must give Mark kudos; he crafted dances this most recent week that worked best for his partner.
I.e. judging. Maybe, we will have 5 judges next season—and the high and low get tossed. Each judge has a style, but I do think Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno need to refocus. You can be provocative without insulting, being wild, off-topic. Simon Cowell does that; his critiques, however harsh at times, focus on the performance.
I’ve been following along with most of the media lately, and I haven’t heard Maks say anything about Bristol. If he said that in his private life, then I don’t see the big deal. He doesn’t have to like her or think she’s a good dancer. As long as he’s not going around trashing her in the media, I don’t see the problem.
I’m with you Michelle. I don’t know if higher scores would have kept Brandy in, and got Kyle kicked off though. I’m not so sure that scores matter at this point. This season is so odd to me though. I don’t know what to think anymore.
All season long Bristol gets all of the bennies and no one else does. It’s the inequity of the season that pisses everyone off. Bristol was judged on an easier scale all season, including the semi finals! How does Len of all people not comment on missed steps, NO musicality, and the grace of a whale? And they all give her 9’s???? OMG! Patti we ARE trying to vote for anyone but Palin! Have you tried to get through since week 4? Impossible! Phone lines are jammed and the online system doesn’t fully function until have 3AM eastern. Most people have to work the next day. Add to that the ongoing Palin Pandering on GMA promoting the Palins and NOT any of the other contestants…then yes, you start to talk about conspiracies! Or just stupidity. On Tuesday with 3 hours of voting left Erin does a “everybody is voting for Palin piece on GMA.” NONE of the other contestants had “everybody voting” for them, only Bristol. We are told Palin is most improved, and might be, but she is NOT up to finalist standard in any season before. She is NOT the will of the people, if you don’t have a robodialer or 400 avatars the “people” can’t get through! And there has been a Palin on GMA 4 out of 6 days a week since DWTS started! To add insult to injury for the first time EVER in DWTS finals, the finalists have to do FOUR dances. Who does that favor? The nearly crippled Jennifer or the ABC diva Bristol? What do you think? Had Palin been judged under the same strict rules as everyone else and given the 3’s and 4’s she deserved she would have been gone by week 4. But with the percentage tally system of DWTS she was never more than 6% off the leader with the higher than deserved scores she received. Had the judging been fair, had the voting system worked for everyone, had everyone or no one enjoyed the constant GMA promotion then Palin would never made it even close to the finals. And if she had we would have been amazed, but not pissed. Because of the inequities, and now the final slap with the change in the finals, we’re pissed and should be! For those of us who have followed the show for every episode for 11 seasons they taught us what good dancing looks like. What tough judging looks like and what equal treatment of contestants looks like. That was their mistake, because their treatment of Palin and her performance looks NOTHING like the fair winners we have been taught to expect through 11 seasons! Another network should put a DWTS show up against them next season, be fair and equitable, and it would kick ABC’s ass into the ground where it belongs!
The producers are really milking this insta-dance thing arent they? I actually like the idea but I hope they dont beat this horse to death before next season, like first we had all this build up about it and how it could be a total wreck ” Seriously? We had to go and bring out the Micheal Bolton Jive scoring tape? ” then the lowest score given out was a 23, we had the randon bucket draw and the backstage mini dancefloors with Brooke as the ” Undercover Ballroom Journalist ” :P…Excited to see the Insta Cha Cha though even tho im sure the stars are like ” Really…” and just think about if Brandy and Maks woulda stayed! They actually already did an Insta Cha Cha ” and Maks whined all the way home ” and im sure he would of had a panic attack and taken shots at Conrad Green when the unluckyiest ever producer had to break the news to him that he would have to cheorograph ANOTHER insta Cha Cha since ya know…Last time it went over like a led ballon.
Audrinas Elimination: Thats so sad. They got it wrong.
Rick’s Elimination: Okay what the heck? Something weirds goin down
Brandy’s Elimination: RED EFFING ALERT! I’m giving all my votes to Jen next week!
I dont buy AT ALL that Bristol has gained 20 lbs on DWTS! Thats just plain mean and cruel.
If the following video has been posted on here, please excuse the repeat. I didn’t see it on here, but I saw this on the Huffington Post and I couldn’t believe this. Bristol and her mother are running a three-ring circus.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/16/bristol-palin-the-situati_1_n_784404.html
I’m sorry, but Bristol is getting a bit ridiculous. My husband and I were talking about this last night. I’ve personally never seen a teen mom hit the road on an “Abstinence Tour” and be able to market herself in such a way that has paid off royally.
When Bristol’s precious son hits about 15 or 16 years old and sees some of the comments she has made about how hard it is to be a single mom……or the famous Sarah comment “this wasn’t supposed to happen in our house”…….the poor child is going to have an inferiority complex and think that he is completely unwanted. Okay Bristol, we understand that you didn’t mean to get pregnant, but for goodness sakes, he is YOUR CHILD……now love him, raise him and TAKE CARE of him…….and quit whining about it. He’s not a mistake, he is a creation of God.
There are a thousand other ways to make a living without making it sound as though your child is a mistake. That’s just wrong, and the incessant focus on her teen pregnancy has really put a sour note on DWTS.
One more rant……..Okay Brandy, we understand that you wanted the mirror-ball trophy. Yes, you were a good dancer and yes, Maks is a good teacher. You were both entertaining to a point. However, like Bristol, Jennifer and Kyle, you made it to the semi-finals and have been paid a handsome sum to learn to dance. You’ve made more in three months than some folks make in three years.
There is such a thing as positive controversy and negative controversy. Positive controversy and drama can raise the ratings, as I’ve said before. Ratings yields sponsors, and sponsors yield money. This season has managed to yield bankable controversy, but it has become more negative than positive. Yes, it has been entertaining, but when the focus shifts to sheer stupidity, it kinda kills the entertainment factor. There’s nothing like watching a bunch of grown adults whine like three-year-olds while they’re making a boat load of money in a bad economy.
One more comment: If you go over to http://www.votefortheworst.com, you will see that the Worsters are supporting Bristol. LOL LOL LOL The Tea Party is getting some help.
I
I think we should consider the source on the InTouch article – they don’t have the best of reputations, after all…
Vogue, this poll is not reflective of the actual feeling of most die hard Maks and Brandy fans. Since this site is linked with purederekhough, of course Jennifer and Derek and going to get the most votes! I can tell you since I had a Maks and Brandy fanpage, the opinion is that most people are not going to watch period. If they do watch, they are either voting for Bristol or Kyle. Bristol b/c they want to expose the flawed system this year and the coddling of an inferior dancer. Kyle, because he is fun and Maks and Brandy have thrown their support his way even if most CANNOT stand Lacey! I guarantee Jennifer will not get the majority of Maks and Brandy’s votes because fans feel she was propped up as “the chosen one”
Jeanmom, I am sorry, …but, even linked with Purederekhough, we are not all mainly “Derek” fans. The fans here range from all walks of life. If you’ve been keeping up with all the responses, you’d see everyone here has their favorites.
Think about this too (when you keep claiming this is a “Derek” or “Maks hating” site)….I’m a “Maks” fan (as well as a Derek, Edyta, Anna, Damian, and Peta fan) and they asked me to help with this site. HMMMM???
And it’s funny you claim that Maks fans are going to vote for Kyle or Bristol. I’m following a lot of Maks fans at Twitter and many are rooting for Derek and Jen. Despite Brandy and Maks supporting Kyle, I don’t think people are robots and will do everything they say (which this poll indicates imo).
Anyway, it’s just a fun little Poll. Sorry that it bothers you that Derek and Jen are winning in it.
Steed2, I believe there were four dances in the finals last season too. Otherwise, I agree with a lot of your perspective. There is a strong feeling of unfairness and inequity, and it has been building through the season.
People have pointed out that a lot of the things people are complaining about this season have happened before – worse dancers advancing over better ones, inconsistent judging, dubious “star” casting . . . . The thing is, while the show has come close to the line on some of these things to various degrees in prior seasons, they have just blown away the lines this season in one shot, with one contestant. People can point out isolated examples of how it’s not so different on this point or that point with prior seasons and contestants, but that it is quite different in overall effect seems pretty obvious by the public response. Add to that the undercurrent of politics running through it all, and it just adds fuel to the fire. It’s an inflammatory situation. I wonder if the producers had any idea.
Vogue, since you mentioned this in the blog, I’m addressing it to you, but it’s something that I know has been mentioned A LOT! and, I’d like your input on it…
You mentioned about wanting THAT song for the freestyle for Jennifer and Derek, and I’ve seen people saying it over and over (and over and over and over and over…) that they want THAT song, and how wonderful it’s going to be, and all that….
I don’t remember which video I’ve seen it, Heidi might know, but somewhere, Jennifer and Derek were asked about their freestyle, and THAT SONG, and they said they WOULD NOT use it. And from what I remember, it seems like they know that there are TONS of people expecting a Dirty Dancing recreation, and they said that they would give a little bit of an appetizer to people, just to satisfy the “they HAVE TO DO THIS!” but it would be THEIR freestyle.
Do you think that by not using The Time of My Life in the freestyle round, that many people will get upset, and refuse to vote for them?
And this isn’t even saying that physically, Jennifer CAN’T do “that” lift.
I really think that Jennifer and Derek are still very much in this race and should not throw in the towel. They have not only marvelous dancing but a wonderful legacy that they should absolutely use in the finals where ever they can. Their fans want to see that. If Jennifer is unable to do the iconic lift, and doesn’t want to be known for that, I hope at least Derek finds some great music like “Do You Love Me” as a nod to the movie. It will only help them, just as their first waltz helped everyone to remember how they felt when they saw it for the first time. Last evening for fun I was looking at the cummulative totals in week 9 of the contestants over the years. I didn’t include season 1 because the scoring was very different than what we have now.
Come from behind victories happened 4 times out of the 10 seasons. Emmit season 3 was 12 points behind Mario…. Helio season 5 – was 7 points behind Mel B, Shawn season 8 was 18 points behind Gilles.,
The only person who was 30 points behind like Kyle and won it was Donny Osmond. Donny being an institution on to himself only had to phone in his performances. He was never in the bottom 2. The question, is Kyle as charismatic as Emmit or legendary as Donny to win this?
Bristol Palin is 64 points behind the leader.
jeanmom, the day that you know what “most die hard fans” of Maks and Brandy are feeling is the day hell freezes over. Why are you still here if you hate this site so much? You know that’s called trolling and you know how I feel about trolls.
Well, Jennifer and Derek fans best VOTE. With four dances being danced and score BEFORE elimination, that really increases the odds that Bristol will take third place. If Jennifer gets all 9’s and 10’s (as she should) and Bristol gets even 8’s and 9’s (she should only get 8’s), that opens up a pretty good point margin between them. I only wish I had confidence in the judges that they can actually do the math.
One thing we can hope for is Len really was not effusive in his praise for Bristol last week when they were standing there waiting for the good bye announcement. He basically said “Well done for making it this far”
So, by that declaration, I hope the judges now say to that team “This is the finals, you’re going to be judged as a finalist, and if you don’t measure up to the standard the finalists are setting you’ll be marked accordingly.” Marie Osmond got sent packing on those words, getting the worst score for a free-style, I think in history of the show with a 22. Even with her juggernaut fanbase she could not overcome the difference.
Good question Lori. If Jennifer and Derek don’t do their freestyle to “Time of Your Life”, I wouldn’t think fans and voters would be upset enough not to vote for them. I would hope they would understand it’s a sentimental song. It might too upsetting and emotinal for Jennifer to do it. They may feel it might be a lack of respect to Patrick too if they were to perform it too. Anyway, even though I think it would be cool for them to do, I’d understand if they didn’t do it and I’d still vote for them. I would think their fans and others would understand whatever they decide with it too. But, this Season is whacky this year and unpredictable. So, I’m not sure on anything, lol. But, knowing Derek like we all know, their freestyle will be powerful, show stopping, and not something we will ever forget leaving Jennifer’s mark on the show win or lose for whatever they are creating.
Vogue, I think Derek and Jennifer are going to surprise you – they both know what people want to see and while she can’t do that iconic lift, I think Derek will put in a nod to DD. Plus, I bet they re-do their first dance as their favorite. That would be a pretty smart thing to do. Stamp dirty dancing all over that show.
Peonies: I think the producers, and Bristol (like her mother), were naive. Yep, the show wanted to boost viewership. Bristol thought of it as an interesting thing to do. They had no idea how this was going to play out. (And, I’m going to repeat my already stated opinion…most Tea Partiers DON’T CARE ABOUT DTWS. It’s a sensational story though, and the media is eating it up and spitting it back out. The only “voting machine” are people who relate to Bristol, because most of us know we’re never going to dance or perform like Jennifer like Brandy, and we’re thrilled to see someone up there like Bristol, who also knows that, has never danced or performed before, but is still working hard. Period.)
The Bristol comment regarding Maks? First, we have no idea what context she said that in, if it’s a direct quote, or what. (Right? Or am I missing something?). Secondly, let’s say she said and meant it exactly as how it’s portrayed…then it was an immature thing for her to do. Someone (immaturely and meanly) probably told her, she repeats it, and then Maks also behaves immaturely in his reaction. It’s a little like that kid’s game of passing information down a line of kids in a whisper, and seeing what ridiculous thing comes out in the end (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, then I’m definitely the oldest person writing in on this site).
Lopez is a mean-spirited bully, as are most of those out there who make their living off making fun of other people through insults. Laugh at someone else’s expense…great way to pay your bills. And I think Carrie Ann lost integrity as a judge during that interview. What is it with the fixation on the weight thing? If you saw Bristol in person, you’d probably think of her as an average, healthy weight kind of girl.
And the comments regarding what kind of mother Bristol is? Oh my gosh…my mother wasn’t a perfect mother, I wasn’t a perfect mother, I suspect no one is. No right to judge THAT in anyone unless there’s outright abuse or neglect. No evidence of that.
My head hurts. This is a DWTS we’re talking about, right? Has it always been like this?
Oh gawd, that would be so fun Miss Heidi. I hope so! *dreaming on it*
As often is the case, I must dissent. I would be VERY disappointed if Jen and Derek did anything from Dirty Dancing, especially ‘Time of My Life’. This is about Jen at 50 years old on Dancing With The Stars – it would just seem cheap and pandering to me if they were to pull the old nugget out of the bag. Now IF Jen could do the lift in another song, well, that’s different, but she can’t… but… *thinks of the lift* …. why can’t she? It’s just her laying flat with her head held up, no? What makes it so dangerous for her neck? I’m sincerely puzzled now.
I wasn’t going to watch the final because I was so ticked over the unfairness of everything. But I am starting to look forward to it.
Can DWTS right the ship? Will Baby take the mirrorball? Will Kyle the underdog win it all? Or will Bristol (gasp) sink the whole show? TPTB (and the judges) have a chance to end the season with a positive bang – or not.
What else is on Monday and Tuesday nights anyway? I might find out come March. 🙂
And Kay, the show was #1! They didn’t need to increase viewership or do all the crap they did this season. That’s what is so annoying. They had a good formula, they screwed with it this year, and now they’ve got a mess on their hands.
Im guessing, AND HOPING, Kyle and Lacey pick their Cha Cha to my My First Kiss for there favorite dance. Gosh that dance was awesome, Still my favorite Cha Cha of all time. 😀
I could be mistaken, but the Cha Cha Cha is the insta-dance, meaning they won’t have the music they had originally. And so I’m not sure that if it’s the insta-dance that they can also chose it for a favorite.
First let me start by saying that I am a Derek and Jennifer fan. I think it would be detrimental for them to “stamp DD all over that show”, as Heidi has suggested. Why? Because the undecided voters who think Jennifer is a trained dancer will be reminded of why they think that. It’s been stated over and over here why that is not the case, but there are still some who think so. As Vogue says, those who know better, don’t need to see DD songs to still want to vote for them. I just think it could hurt with the voting.
I don’t think Jen and Derek will stamp DD all over the show…but I do think they’re gonna give Jen’s fan a little taste- you know to satisfy that craving…to scratch the DD itch. I have a feeling they’ll give enough to make all the DD lovers go gaga but still keep it to where other people won’t feel suffocated by it. I don’t really care what they do because they’ll bring it and DD references or not- I’m just excited to see their freestyle!!
I remember at the beginning of the season, Jennifer and Derek were asked if they would do “Time of My Life” for their freestyle, and they said they wouldn’t, and that their Viennese Waltz was their homage to Dirty Dancing. I don’t know if they’ve changed their mind since then, but I’m guessing Derek will come up with something original. I’m curious what they’ll do. I’m curious what Lacey will come up with too. Sometimes her choreography is too much, and too sloppy, but I think she’s been doing better with it in the last couple weeks, so we’ll see.
I think she (and Derek) are thinking about if he dropped her or if she fell, Evaine. That would be a very bad thing indeed. Derek choreographs all these amazing things, but the tricks (as he’s said on numerous occasions) make him VERY nervous even without the possibility of seriously hurting Jennifer. FWIW, they have both said that they aren’t doing that dance, they aren’t doing that lift, so it’s probably all a moot point. Derek made reference to a “nod” to Dirty Dancing, which from him probably means they’ll use one of the songs and he’ll choreograph something completely new. Jennifer flat out said that her name isn’t “Baby” and the past is the past, so I doubt very much that we’ll see anything other than a passing reference. Frankly, I think their first dance was really only a nod to DD also – it’s a light enough touch that it should please both sides.
Exactly Laurie. Why the number 1 show on TV has to continually mess with it is beyond me.
And Amen, mary.
Hey, did you guys read Maksim’s blog?
http://www.maksimchmerkovskiy.blogspot.com/
He’s talking about all the elimination thing…
Thanks Heidi, that’s the only thing I could figure too – the falling thing. And I have to say, watching Derek choreograph numbers with limited or no tricks has been interesting and delightful. I have actually found him more of a partner this season than a fellow performer, which I always felt before. I like this side of Derek.
I do too. I’d like to see Jennifer do some more of those Split things on Derek and on the floor. I love those!!
That’s a good point Meggie. But like I just told someone else, I doubt that’s going to happen so it’s probably a moot point.
In any case, no matter what they do, someone will be unhappy.
I am so excited to see Jennifer and Derek’s freestyle! I know that whatever direction they take it in, it will be fantastic. I’ve never seen bad choreography from Derek yet.
I was a Brandy and Maks supporter and I don’t know how many times I’ve said this but Derek is my favorite male pro on the show, possibly pro of all time, in my books. The reason I didn’t jump on the Jenougher wagon this season was because Brandy was on and that’s my girl, so I supported her. Now that she is gone, I am FINALLY on the Jenougher team. If they don’t do a DD Freestyle, I could care less. But everyone, WATCH OUT FOR KYLE!!!! Everyone is talking about Bristol and yes, her fanbase is a threat, but Kyle and Lacey might pull some kind of a shocker on all of us if they do the best freestyle and win. No matter what, my votes are going to Jenougher!!!!! End of story.
Nathan, you are so right. Kyle is the dark horse!!!!
You know, weeks ago I would have agreed about Kyle, but I really don’t think so anymore. I never would have thought I’d say this in a million years, but in this group, at this point, IF there’s a dark horse at all I’d have to say it’s Jennifer. Is that crazy? It feels crazy. I wouldn’t say she’s a dark horse in the true sense of the phrase, but really, from what I’ve seen, there has been so much dialogue about Kyle, and obviously Bristol, that Jennifer seems a little in the background. At least in the last week. I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s just interesting.
Vogue, it does not bother me that Derek and Jennifer are winning it, but you must admit that this site is majority Derek fans. When I said linked with purederekhough, does not Heidi run purederekhough.com? You are always posting links and citing it as well and also reference eachother on twitter. Let’s get real. Most Maks and Brandy fans are not familiar with this site. I was just giving you some insight on what people were saying. I don’t agree with voting for Bristol and most people could have just been fuming and blowing off steam when they said that. I think most people will abstain from voting more than anything which could spell trouble for Jen and Kyle b/c Tea People are gathering together to get Bristol that trophy.
Jeanmom, I am not admitting any such thing. This site is full of fans for every dancer including Maks. Do you want me to go through and list them all and who they like? lol Seriously, if there are more Derek fans here, maybe that’s because he’s one of the most popular and loved dancers on the show which he is (as well as Maks, etc). I’m sorry that bothers you so much.
Heidi/Voguerista:
I do have a feeling that Derek and Jennifer will give a nod to DD with their freestyle. In the interviews they gave a hint that it would satisfy everyones appetite!
Also I think their favorite dance was the Argentine Tango, but they most probably will change it a bit. The Judges redemption dance has got to be the paso doble, and I bet she kills it this time! What do you think?
Oh, I hope so Margaret. It would be fun to see her really nail the Paso this time. *still dreaming on the DD nod in some way again…and her killer SPLITS. lol
Yeah, Margaret, I’m betting she kills it – she was too hyped up last time, you could see it. She’ll be more relaxed now, I think.
I find it hard to believe that anything will change about DWTS, whether or not Bristol wins DWTS. We’ve had shocking eliminations before and TPTB has never been suspicious of any flaws in the voting system and nothing was investigated. When Sabrina was eliminated, the system wasn’t looked into for flaws and when Gilles lost to Shawn by 1% when so many people were so sure he was a shoo-in, no one investigated into anything either. Look, it’s politics right now. That’s why it’s such a huge uproar right now. If Bristol was not related to any politician and she was just a celebrity for some other reason, there would be so much hatred and attacking going on right now.
I did not see anywhere that Maks said he hated her either but Bristol made it clear why she said that. She said it because she thought Maks didn’t think it was fair for her to be in the competition still. She didn’t say it because she heard Maks say he hated her. She kinda formed an opinion about Maks then came to that conclusion. Maybe it was based on something else that he said or when they were talking behind the scenes.
Sorry, I meant if Bristol was not related to a politician, there would NOT be such an uproar.
Liz, if Maks had done that we’d be raking him over the coals. So, Bristol gets the same treatment – STFU about other people on the show unless they said something ugly to your face. Not doing so is just immature.
