A big thanks to all those that participated in the Pure DWTS Holiday Giveaway. I’ve notified the winners by email and so if you participated, be sure to check your email inbox to see if you won!

A big thanks also to Step Up 3 for providing the DVD/Blu-ray combo packs. I have mine and I’m telling you that the dancing in Step Up 3 was off the charts. They even manage to throw in a scene with some ballroom dancing. Although the battle dances are definitely the best part.

On that note, if you didn’t win the free copy, you can always buy one on Amazon. It’s worth it just to see the incredible dancing.

Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for reading Pure DWTS.

Pure DWTS – New Years Dancing Media

Just a few things to share with you on this day before New Years Eve. First up, Cheryl Burke is interviewed by CBS Sunday in San Francisco on her dance role in “Forever Tango”. Luis Bravo (the creator and director) is also interviewed. The clips of Cheryl dancing look fantastic.

From the Bay Sunday facebook page, here the two are again;

Louis posted this picture on his twitter of himself, Jay D Schwartz, Karina, Jonathan, and Anna in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico celebrating Anna’s birthday at the Casa Dorada Hotel. The four dancers will be performing for the The Barefoot Formal NYE Event on New Year’s Eve. What a beautiful place to spend the holiday.

Speaking of holiday, Maks and Derek are having the time of their lives. Maks has been travelling all through out Europe as most of you know who are following him at Twitter. He’s been posting pictures every time he changes destinations. Rumor has it that Derek has been in Europe as well and is now in S. Africa. Other than this tweet, nothing can be verified and this is all we have from him. Heidi HELP!! *cries* lol (Heidi: LOL – a number of fans have been photographed with Cheryl Cole in South Africa and they all said Derek is with her – it’s all over twitter now. Poor Derek, breaking some Cheryl fans’ hearts – they turn ugly when that happens. LOL)

From all the reality Shows this past year, who was the judgiest judge or crankiest contestant of the year? Well, TV Squad has picked Bruno as one of the crankiest judges. You can see who else made the cut and why at the link. (personally, I would have chosen Carrie Ann over Bruno as most cranky!)

Michael Bolton Demands Apology from ‘Dancing’ Judge: On ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ judge Bruno Tonioli called Michael Bolton’s jive with Chelsea Hightower the worst “in 11 seasons.” Bolton was stunned by Tonioli’s harsh tone and felt the Italian judge “let everybody down,” including his 90-year-old mother, who was sitting in the audience. “You heard the tone. Even Len [Goodman] stopped him and said, ‘That’s inappropriate,'” he said. “I think he should apologize publicly and he should be reprimanded for it.”

Ok, that is all for now. Happy New Year Everyone and don’t forget to dance like there is no tomorrow. 😉 xxx

PURE DWTS:: Jingle On Media After Christmas

Hi Everyone! How was your Christmas? I hope it was everything you hoped for. In just a few media things to share with you, here is Mark Ballas Singing “O Holy Night” at the Second Baptist church in Houston Texas on Christmas Eve. Beautiful!! Wow, the more I hear him sing (especially his new material), the more I am becoming a fan of  his, musically speaking.

Cheryl Burke is receiving rave reviews for her performance in “Forever Tango”. Here is one of several reveiws out there from the Stark Insider. Be sure to read the link for more.

Tango does well to keep things moving swiftly. There are no monologues, filler or, even, attempts at theatrics. The dance is, thankfully, the thing, and the only thing. It serves the production well which establishes a vibrant pace that doesn’t let up until the intermission some sixty minutes later.

For a show about dance, however, the stage does somewhat constrict the performer’s room to move. The orchestra takes well over half of it, resulting in a narrow band in front that the dancers use, albeit effectively. It would’ve been nice to have some depth to the stage. Instead, at times it can feel a bit like a tennis match: dance to the left, back to the right, then left, right, etc. Also, by the end of the evening some of the dance numbers felt slightly repetitive, and the drone of the bandoneon reminded me too much of a vuvuzela.

While I’m not a huge fan of dance productions, it’s pretty evident that this show won me over, and I enjoyed it more than I expected. For those that love the tango, are fans of Cheryl Burke or enjoy a thrilling and authentic experience should walk out of Forever Tango thoroughly entertained.

Carrie Ann gives some advice on how to look your best during the holidays. Here is a take from Bella Sugar.

“It’s been quite an intense year, as you saw with Dancing With the Stars,” she said. “We had an incredible season. It’s a nice way to wrap up the year, say thanks to all my friends and family, and maybe welcome the new year a little early.” So to see Carrie’s tips on getting your shimmer on, what false lashes she thinks are the best, and more, just just reading.

BellaSugar: Tell me about shimmery makeup for the holidays. What’s your take on it, and do you have any advice on how to wear it without looking tacky?Carrie Ann Inaba: I think shimmer is good for the holidays. I think that’s what the holidays are for . . . But if you’re going to go with shimmer, just stick with neutral tones, like gray and charcoal. For me, because I’m from Hawaii, I like to focus on my skin. So I think trying to make yourself look like you have a healthy glow rather than looking like a Christmas ornament is probably the better way to approach things — so, a little shimmer on your cheeks, a little shimmer under the eyebrow. For me, because I have a tiny little nose, I put a little shimmer on the bridge of my nose just to make my nose look a little more pronounced. So anywhere you want a little more “ta-da,” that’s where you put it.

BS: So are you more of a bold lip or a bold eye kind of girl?CAI: Oh, bold eye!

BS: I thought you were going to say that!CAI: Must have false eyelashes; must have liquid liner. One of my favorite lashes is the MAC number two lashes ($14). They’re just so pretty, and so long. And oddly, I don’t know how, but somehow they just look natural even though there’s no way in the world they could be.

It sounds like all the dancers are having a wonderful Christmas. Here are a few of their tweets.

I love white lights. What is he talking about? Funny as I have a good freind who says the same on them. lol

Ok, that is all we have for you for now. Remember, it’s not too late to ever get your jingle on. More soon. 😉

DWTS Season 12 – “Put ME on the Show” & Possible Contenders

Like Heidi, I’ve been running into some celebrities and people out there dying to be on DWTS next season. Here is one I really had to scratch my head on. I had no idea who “Ijustine” was until I was over at The ABC Dancing With The Stars “Pick the Cast” link with her and/or her fans flooding the link with their votes. If you don’t know who she is, she’s a You Tube sensation currently. Guess who she wants as a partner if this video is of any hint? 😮

Black Label Society’s and Ozzy Osbourne’s former front man, Zakk Wilde, has posted he wants to be on DWTS next season on his My Space page. He’s also getting a lot of votes from his fan base currently.

Vote for Zakk to be on the next Dancing With The Stars! And yes we are serious! http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/cast-season12

Last week, I ran onto this scary possibilty. lol In this video Joan Rivers mentions how she’d do the show if asked.

TWNpNews is reporting former WWE diva Maria Kanellis has asked her fans to vote for her to be on the show. Here she is in case you’ve never seen her before.

And then there is Tom Bergeron’s dream contestant. In case you missed it, last week, he tweeted Julie Benz that he wanted her on the show. Here’s the transcript of their brief exchange:

Bergeron: Post-vacation, I’d love 2 see you pulling double duty. No Ordinary Family & DWTS. U should be able 2 do a REALLY fast quickstep!
Benz: I would love to!!!!!
Bergeron: Good to know! It has synergy written all over it. And spray tan. And teeny little costumes!
Benz: some do it for the dance… I would do it for the spray tan and teeny sparkle costumes!!!

Here is a take from Zap2it on this strong possibility which I agree with.

Whether or not Bergeron has any pull regarding casting choices, this sounds like an interesting proposal and certainly a smart one should ABC and the DWTS producers go for it.

Currently in its freshman season, No Ordinary Family has been having difficulty in the ratings during the last few weeks, despite its continually improving creative stride. What better way to pull in more viewers than to have one of your stars compete in one of the highest rated shows on your network?

As for what DWTS would get out of it, they’d have the opportunity to bring some class back to their ballroom by adding to their cast a current, relevant celebrity who has actually earned the “star” label, rather than continuing to turn their dance floor into the reality TV equivalent of a 10-car pileup by trolling the tabloids for pseudo-celebs without any star-quality whatsoever.

If Bergeron can pull some weight to make this happen, you can bet I’ll be back amongst the throng of those frantically phoning in their votes on Tuesday nights.

Ok, so what do you think of these possibilities for DWTS Season 12? I think I like the Julie Benz idea the most and she would make the perfect partner for Derek, Tony, or Maks I think.

DWTS Season 12 Cast Rumor – Phil Hellmuth

Well, maybe.  He apparently wanted to be on the show a while ago (he “auditioned”?? Hmmm…) and you know people don’t always get what they want. 🙂  Who the hell is he, you ask?  Do the words “World Series of Poker” ring any bells??  They should if you’re a Shannon Elizabeth fan. According to CardPlayer.com:

According to his recent Tweet, Phil Hellmuth may be appearing on the 12th season of the ABC show Dancing with the Stars.

The 46-year-old Hellmuth, who has unsuccessfully auditioned for a spot in the past, wrote: OMG! Phil Hellmuth (me!) on “Dancing with the Stars!” Outrageous! Might make a fool out of myself on Worldwide Television one more time…

Although the cast for the spring season will not be announced until sometime next month, Hellmuth’s Tweet gives hope that he will be selected for the popular show. The date of the season premiere has yet to be determined

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS – Dancing Media Before Christmas 2010

We’re inching closer and closer to Christmas. What are your plans for the holidays? I’ll be chilling at home with hubby and all of my pets. Did I tell you we took a stray cat in last summer? We promised she’d never have to fend for herself ever again and she’d always have a home. Well, she ended up being pregnant and had 3 kittens one month later in August. 😮 So, we’ve promised them too that they’d always have a home. lol Needless to say, we will be very busy caring and playing with them all this holiday and they are a gas. 🙂

In media things to start out your Christmas week, we have a cool new picture of Cheryl with her “Forever Tango” partner Jorge Antonio Ezequiel from the San Francisco Examiner.

Here is a nice take from the article.

“I had to work really hard and focus,” she says of the grueling three-week rehearsals. “I had to learn from the beginning — from learning how to walk and the Argentine tango hold and really just interpreting the music.”

But it was certainly worth the sweat. The Bay Area-native had a personal investment in being in the show. Burke was first inspired to further pursue dance after seeing a touring production of “Forever Tango” in The City when she was a kid.

“I’ve been ballroom dancing since I was 11 years old, ballet since I was 4,” she says, “but ‘Forever Tango’ inspired me to learn how to dance, especially partner dancing, and from then on, it’s been something I really wanted to do.”

It’s also been something millions want to see.

The original production was cheered by San Francisco audiences in 1994. It played an unprecedented 92 weeks. It later hit Broadway in 1997 and played for 14 months.

Bravo, its creator and director, was revered for how well he featured world-renowned dancers with musicians and for how it morphed into a hypnotic show-stopping sensation. It’s now the longest running tango show in Broadway history. It last graced The City back in 2008.

Bravo’s outing has 12 dancers, a vocalist and an 11-piece onstage orchestra, including the bandoneón — an accordion-like instrument that is a staple in tango music. Music, dance and vignettes trace the tango’s history — from the bordellos to acceptance in society.

“Argentine tango is very detailed,” Burke says. “It’s not just about learning the steps. It’s about how you move from foot to foot; how you interact with your partner. Every single thing you do has to tell a story and it has to be clear to the people that are watching.”

This show starts tomorrow in San Francisco and then it will travelling to Monterey, CA. Jan. 13th. Read The Californian for more details and ticket information.

Maks just posted a new picture of himself at an old Gladiator stadium on Twitter today. If anyone knows of where this stadium might be, let us know. He is looking well and happy, isn’t he?!

There is a new interview with Karina at I Need My Fix discussing her new work out video. She also talks of her future plans in clothing, costume design, being a Mom, and her dream to be like “Jennifer Lopez”. Here is a take. I didn’t realize she helped choreograph the dances in “Shall We Dance”…one of my favorite all time dance movies. Be sure to read the link for more.

INMF: Where do you see yourself in five years?
KARINA: With a couple of kids a boy and a girl. Dancing With The Stars, if it’s still around, something in this industry. I’m probably one of the biggest fans of Jennifer Lopez. I think she’s had an amazing career from dancer to singer to actress to business woman. I think she’s an inspiration, and it’s not like she came from a family where her dad was a producer and her mom was a studio executive. She came from the Bronx.

She came from a normal neighbourhood and she worked her butt off and she got to the very top and she’s gorgeous. I’m kind of hoping to follow her steps anyways possible even if they are just tiny little footsteps.

I actually got to meet her because I did ‘Shall We Dance’ the movie that she did with Richard Gere. I actually choreographed and I taught Jennifer and Richard Gere and I had a small part in it. I got to meet her and interact with her and even though it’s been so many years, I think the movie was out in 2001, and up until now, every time she sees me on the carpet or at the events she will come up and say hi. She is so down-to-earth.

I don’t want to come up to her and say ‘hey, do you remember me’ because I don’t know if she is busy or what. But she always waves or says hi or lets me know that she knows I’m there and says hi to me. I think it’s so admirable at the stature that she’s at, she’s SO down-to-earth.

And here is a picture of her showing off her engagement ring as well.

Speaking of cool pictures of our dancers, don’t miss seeing this Gallery of pics TV GUIDE released of “Season 11 Most Sexiest Looks” >>>> HERE . There are 13 fun pictures. If you were to pick your very favorite, which would it be? Mine would be a toss up between Maks and Brandy in #5 and Derek and Jen in #7(those leg splits will get me every time 🙂 ). Thanks to Heidi and Pure Derek Hough for this tip.

Ok, more later! Dont stop with those Christmas Dreams, safe travels, and much love to All!! 😉 xxx

DWTS Awards: DWTS Music and DWTS Special Musical Guest Awards

Which DWTS musical guest did you enjoy most?

Other Answers:
Enrique Iglesias/enrique/enrique igleasis/Enrique Englasias/Eglasis/inrigue inglesia 11
Christina Aguilera/Christina Augulierra/christine aguillara/christina aquilara/christina agulara 8
Ne-Yo 5
Annie Lennox 5
Taio Cruz 4
None 2
John Legend 3
Bruno Marks 1
Rod Stewart 1
Shakira 2
Xtina 1
The little kids dancing 1
Santana/India Arie 1

Voguerista: Enrique by far! Sssss, where are your votes?

Courtney: I think I’d rather have a root canal than listen to Enrique shrieking on “I Like It”, lol.  But it looks like Santana & Daughtry was the most crowd-pleasing…although I still enjoyed Heart quite a bit.  Didn’t realize there were so many alternative spellings for Christina & Enrique’s names…one of the caveats of having the “other” category is the myriad of responses you get, hehe.

John: Well, this was probably my fault that we didn’t have Enrique and Christina on the poll. Even Ne-Yo and Annie Lennox would have likely done better if they were on the poll and not just a write in. Enrique will still be happy to know he has a lot of fans (even if they don’t know how to spell his name).

Who had the worst luck when it came to DWTS song choices?

Other answers:
Kyle 1
jennifer and derek with So what 1
Kyle and Lacey’s Foxtrto to the “Charlie’s Angels” theme 1
Jennifer and derek’s 1st paso to rock star 1
derek and jennifer shut up 1
Audrina 1
bristol and mark’s monkees 1

Voguerista: It seemed liked everyone was given a bad song choice at one time or another. I really wish officials would let the dancers and contestants pick their own songs. Sometimes it’s almost like they are setting some couples up to fail?

Courtney: I think the results of this one are very telling.  Sitch & Karina got absolutely HOSED when they were given “Boom Boom Pow” for a foxtrot, but they managed to turn it into a memorable routine that actually managed to get the encore for the week  – which to me illustrates the idea that a truly good pro can turn a crappy situation (no pun intended) into a decent routine.  I’ve noticed a lot of fans try to blame song choice when their favorite couple has a ho-hum routine…and while I agree that a song can really influence the way a dance turns out, I think it’s ultimately up to the pros to make the best of the situation and suck it up.  I really only think one of the above dances was truly bad – Margaret & Louis’ Viennese waltz – and I think that had more to do with the silliness going with the choreography than the music itself.  For those in the “other” category – it’s interesting that a few of you thought Jennifer’s 1st paso to “So What” was a bad song choice, considering it’s already been used for a paso once before on the show (I believe it was Shawn & Mark’s first paso in season 8 – which I recall they did pretty well on); as for the TV theme week dances, I think everyone was probably equally bad off with their songs, since TV themes are pretty cheesey to begin with 🙂
