DWTS – Season 11 Afterlife Continues, Future Contenders, & Media Wrap Up
Hi Everyone! What’s up in your dancing worlds on this weekend? Have you voted in our PURE DWTS END OF THE SEASON AWARDS Yet? If not, time is getting away. If you haven’t done so yet, please VOTE now >>>> HERE !!
Well, if you’ve been reading some of the entertainment headlines this week, there are a lot of rumors saying DWTS officials are eyeing Todd Palin for the show next year. A site called Thirdage is reporting that Meghan McCain is also a possible contender. But, check out the last question this site asks in the take below while they report on these two rumors that grabbed my attention.
One obvious reason that ABC would want to recruit Todd Palin comes from the unprecedented buzz on the show this past season stemming from Bristol Palin’s involvement.
“They want him big time,” a source told E! Online. “They’d love Sarah, but they don’t think that will ever happen, so why not go for the dad.”
The show is apparently also after Meghan McCain, daughter of 2008 GOP presidential candidate John McCain. This season, Jennifer Grey was crowned winner but Bristol Palin’s long stay and unprecedented fan support became a talking point.
Perhaps the question to ask then becomes: Is Dancing with the Stars intentionally recruiting top GOP connections for more than entertainment purposes?
I hate to say it. But, if this rumor is true, why are they only wanting contenders from the GOP? If they are seriously wanting to continue having someone connected to politics to dance, why don’t they pick someone from another Party?
Anyway, I really hope, like many of you have expressed, we won’t have to go down the same political road next Season. But, being ratings were so good for Season 11, I’m fearing DWTS officials will repeat themselves?
Speaking of Palins, did you know our 3rd place winner this Season and The Situation made a “Pause before you play” commercial for the “Candie’s Foundation“?
I thought the video had a really cool message. However, Keith Olbermann thought differently. Here is a take of that report from The Washington Post and how Bristol responded to him on it.
In the PSA, Bristol and The Situation exchanged lively banter as to whether abstinence or a better grade of condom made the most sense for teens contemplating a roll in the hay. Extra points if you can guess which person advocated which.
“Bristol Palin, she has done a public service announcement this The Situation guy from TV’s ‘Jersey Shore.’ It’s about abstinence and safe sex. Sadly, it is not a spoof done by The Onion,” Olbermann said, showing a clip of the PSA.
Olbermann continued: “She’s the Candies spokesperson for abstinence? She and her son? Because it’s got to work this time? This is like saying George Bush kept us safe except for that 9/11 thing, which doesn’t count.”
Bristol responded, at great length, via Facebook:
Recently, a left wing commentator named Keith Olbermann attacked me for being a spokesperson for abstinence education and for being an Ambassador for the Candies Foundation, which promotes teen pregnancy awareness and prevention education. He went so far as to call me “the worst person” he knows, apparently, for my efforts to educate teenagers about the real world risks of premarital sex.
Accusing me of hypocrisy is by now, an old canard. What Mr. Olbermann lacks in originality he makes up for with insincere incredulity. Mr. Olbermann fails to understand that in order to have credibility as a spokesperson, it sometimes takes a person who has made mistakes. Parents warn their children about the mistakes they made so they are not repeated. Former gang members travel to schools to educate teenagers about the risks of gang life. Recovered addicts lecture to others about the risks of alcohol and drug abuse. And yes, a teen mother talks about the benefits of preventing teen pregnancy.
I have never claimed to be perfect. If that makes me the “worst person in the world” to Mr. Olbermann, then I must apologize for not being absolutely faultless like he undoubtedly must be.
To Mr. Olbermann let me say this: you can attack me all you want. But you will not stop me from getting my message out about teen pregnancy prevention. And one day, if you ever have a daughter, you may change your mind about me.
In other things to report, there is a cool interview up at The Washington Post with David Hasselhoff. Here is what he said on his Dancing With The Stars experience. Be sure to read the link for more.
I also wanted to ask you about “Dancing With the Stars.” You were the first contestant eliminated in this last season. That had to sting a little bit…
The funny thing about it is I got more press out of being kicked off first than if I’d won. I didn’t have to go through 10 weeks of hell. It was great. At first I was disappointed because of Kym [Johnson] because we worked so hard. I’ve done Broadway, done the “Producers” and I’ve danced. But it takes me a few weeks to figure out what “5,6,7,8″ really means. I was just breaking through and they told me to camp it up and be funny. And the funniest part about it is the show got the highest ratings in the history of the show when I was on and it got the highest ratings on the finale when I appeared again. So I smile about that.In a way I was kind of thinking it’s not about the dancing. It’s about who’s popular right now and who’s got the most Twitters and fan support. But it was a very good positive experience and I have nothing but respect for the dancers.
I have to ask, since it was a controversial season, what do you think about how far Bristol Palin got in the competition? Did she deserve to go that far?
I think that, you know, life is not fair. Who deserves what? There’s got to be a reason for it all in the end. I think when I die I’ll ask god, “Hey God, what about Bristol?” He’ll say, “You know we tried to get her mom in the White House and that didn’t work out, so we’ll use this, but then she became the president so it all worked out great.” I don’t know. Who knows? It’s a dancing show, for god’s sake. We’re sending kids off to Iraq and Afghanistan and no one talks about them. And we’re sitting here talking about “Dancing with the Stars” and Bristol Palin.
The funny part about it is she’s a nice person. A lovely girl. I judge a person, like Martin Luther King said, on the content of their character. She happened to be very kind, very sweet and very shy. It couldn’t have been easy for her being thrust into that, but you know, it made for entertaining television. It’s like they say, “As long as they’re talking about ya, they’re talking about ya.”
So I’m going to go ahead and assume you’re not a Sarah Palin supporter.
I don’t really know her game yet. I really cannot say. I haven’t taken the time — right now I’m just trying to support my daughters and make sure I have enough shirts clean because I’m flying all over the world. It’s a great time right now, to be honest. If I can say one thing I’ve enjoyed about this show more than anything, it’s been spending time with my daughters.
Is Jennifer Grey thinking of doing Broadway following in the footsteps of her Dad? Broadway.com explores the possibilty.
Daddy Joel fueled a rumor that Jennifer might be interested in appearing with him in the Broadway revival of Chicago (in which he created the role of Amos Hart), teasingly telling Broadway.com, “Maybe she’ll play Velma Kelly, not Roxie. You know what I mean?” Asked about the possibility of portraying a Merry Murderess, Grey responded, “I love that show, but I’m open to anything. There’s always amazing choreography going on here [on Broadway]. As long as I don’t have to do a different dance every week—or four different dances every week!—that really appeals to me.”
So, could a Jennifer/Joel Broadway pairing be in the works? “I would love to work with my dad!” she exclaimed. “We’ve never done anything live together. I’m always open to working with talented people, and I think my dad certainly qualifies.”
As for the demands of Broadway-style singing, Grey said, “I have sung, but I haven’t sung in any way that I would ever call myself ‘a singer.’ But if the right show came along and I worked with a really great Broadway vocal coach, I think I could do it. We’ll see what happens.”
This week Karina whipped Access Hollywood Live’s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover into shape using unique moves from her new workout DVD, “Shape Up with Karina Smirnoff.” Check them out here.
Brandy did a media blitz this week where she talked about her career plans with brother RayJ, her Dancing With The Stars experience, and more. Here are some videos in case you missed her on the Joy Behar show, Lopez Tonight, and Access Live.
And lastly, some Derek news (take this with a grain of salt though since many British sources are “HIGHLY unreliable” as Heidi has said). Simon Cowell has reportedly offered Derek a position on the US version of The X Factor. From Digital Spy.
Taking the job as choreographer would see him quit his role on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, The Sun reports.
“He is in discussions for the job,” a source told the paper. “Taking it would mean [Cole and Hough] could be together at home and work.”
The news comes just days after it was claimed that Hough’s close friend Cheryl Cole has landed a £3million deal to join the show as a judge.
I hope this isn’t true. I want him to stay on DWTS!!
Ok, that is all for you for now. Voguerista over and out. Let us know how it’s hangin’.

God, where do I start?? Does anyone REALLY expect me to believe that Bristol Palin – whose mother makes up words to suit her purposes (or because she doesn’t know the correct words) – is going to use the words “canard” and “incredulity”??? I say, her publicist screwed up in using those words when crafting that response for her, since I doubt there is a 20 year old anywhere that knows what “canard” means, let alone Bristol. Geez.
Second, the ratings for the last two episodes were undoubtedly high – but the remainder of the season, as I recall, fell within statistical range of the previous fall season. Hugely inflated ratings are a myth, probably spouted by the same guys who refused to acknowledge that Sarah Palin’s Alaska ratings fell by 40% (and 44% in the key demo) in the second week. Of course, they claimed a huge ratings spike of 3.5 million in the third week. Um, LOL??
So, would they go the political route again? Probably, because they aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.
But I don’t think they will have the same success. I think Bristol was unique in that she’s a young girl, single mother, shy, sweet (up until the end, anyway) and actually grew in ability – although not to the point that I thought she should be in the final. Neither her father nor Megan McCain have ANY of those attributes – quite the opposite in Megan’s case. But I think this is all a bunch of rumor and speculation at this point.
Finally, I told Vogue to go ahead and include the Derek rumor even though I’m reasonably certain that he ain’t goin’ there. For one thing, Brian Friedman, the British XFactor choreographer, is reportedly doing the American version as well. For another, I can’t see it as anything more than a step back for Derek. Interestingly enough, I just read a report on twitter that Derek is hanging out with Simon Fuller and his rep from MSA. NOW THAT is extremely interesting – and Fuller is producing 3 films currently, not to mention having his hand in nearly everything else entertainment wise. *excited*
“God, where do I start??”
LOL! That’s the way I was reacting to all the above too. I always get the biggest kick out of Joy Behar. She doesn’t want to let the Bristol-Sarah Palin stuff rest or Brandy’s elimination. I feel pretty much like Joy on everything she says. I know…I am so bad.lol
And Heidi, I hope it’s not true about Derek and the X-Factor. It would be a step down just like you said. Even though he’s an an awesome choreographer and one of the greatest ever, he belongs on the stage under the lights. A film with a starring role would be cool too as he is our modern day Fred Astaire. Anyway, I hope he never leaves or takes a break from DWTS. I can’t imagine the show without him.
Nooooooooooo! That’s me after reading the Derek rumor. I’d love to see him get a movie role, but I don’t want to give him up on DWTS for anything that is not a limelight role. Behind the scenes doesn’t cut it!
I like The Sitch better as an actor than a dancer. I know – that’s not saying much!
Thanks Vogue for the media coverage!
LOL where do I even begin with that PSA?
Is The Sun even a semi-trustworthy source? I’m not too familiar with British tabloids, but I know they are crazy, and they’re going crazy for Derek right now. I’m hoping that story is not true. I’d like to see Derek go into choreography, but after DWTS, and on a larger scale.
You’re welcome Meggie!!
I like The Sitch better as an “actor” too. He makes me laugh.
Keith Olberman is a jerk and there is nothing wrong with Bristol’s PSA. Being a single teenage mother she knows what she is talking about so the teenagers are more likely to listen to her….I have just had enough of the Palin’s and wish they would go back to Alaska and shoot moose.I will never forgive John McCain for unleashing them on us.
Anyway, enough with the political “stars” with agenda’s. Let’s get back to the dancing show that we all love…
Watching Strictly Come Dancing tonight to see if their political firebrand makes it through another round.
Oh, Katy, thanks for reminding me about SCD – I’m going to watch it too. I always watch X Factor, but forget SCD until it’s half over.
Kelsy, no, none of the British rags are very trustworthy when it comes to Derek (and Cheryl) – they’ll report anything anyone tells them. According to them Derek was going to be in London on Tuesday to hold Cheryl’s hand as she’s supposedly going through a rough time. Well, he’s still in LA and just finished moving into a new place, and meeting with Simon Fuller (awesome!!). They also say that Derek and Cheryl are going to Egypt in the New Year – we’ll see.
I kind of hope Derek does move on from the show – for his sake – and goes on to bigger and brighter things as long as we can watch him.
The guy’s an amazing talent and will do lots of incredible things in his lifetime.
I am torn on Derek moving on from DWTS. While it would be great to see him in movies, when he leaves the show, there won’t be any more Hough’s. Between Derek and Julianne, they raised the level of the show. The standard of dance that is required now, is because of both Hough’s. Anyone remember back in season 5, Len talking about the 4 Pros in the semi finals?
I thought read here before that nobody bashed Bristol here. Every time you guys can get a little jab at her or her family that is what you do. What have these people ever done to any of you that you hate them so much. I truly do not understand.
” All I want for Christmas is….. some cheesecake please.” (you know, instead of my two front teeth!) A girl can hope! lol
Pam, no one hates Bristol. I don’t know why you have to keep posting that. Yes, some of us didn’t like her dancing, etc. but that doesn’t mean anyone hates her.
Meggie, ME TOO!!!! lol
Voguerista, I’ll just direct you back to Princess Heidi’s first post and yours beneath hers. Neither one of you were talking about Bristol’s dancing. You even acknowledged that you were “bad”. I have to agree with you. You and all the others slamming the Palins every chance you get need to ask yourselves why? What have they done to deserve your hate? You should be ashamed.
Its the next logical step for the producers to get Todd is they want Mrs. Palin in the near future so this doesn’t shock me. Megan Mccain definately did though. I don’t think she would ever do it. As for Derek, he if he leaves the show would suffer but I don’t think he is going anywhere since he gets emmy nominations and media press due to DWTS and stars love that.
Well done to Bristol for standing up to him.
If that is true about Derek and he has been offered the X Factor, I think he would take it over staying on Dancing with The Stars. X Factor would give him higher pay probably, more exposure.
” I think Bristol was unique in that she’s a young girl, single mother, shy, sweet (up until the end, anyway) and actually grew in ability – although not to the point that I thought she should be in the final.” …Heidi
Pam, I know Heidi is perfectly capable of defending herself, but above is the quote that Heidi actually wrote about Bristol. The rest was her opinion on who wrote Bristol’s response to Olbermann. You have to read everything someone writes and not just the parts you don’t like!
And by the way, I was actually glad Bristol was on the show, until it turned into circus, none of which was her doing.
Thanks for the post and links. This is the first time I’ve seen and read BP’s response to Olberman – Canard? Canard? Remember her recent facebook post in November toward that guy who dissed her mom’s show? She told him to stfu. Yeeaah. I guess she decided to put her big middle finger in storage, too. It’s not THAT hard to write a polite, clean response to Olberman. Unless you are incapable of writing or thinking in a polite, clean way and you have to pay someone to write for you.
On another note, I want to check out Karina’s tape.
Pam what is a slam?? That Bristol would never use the word “canard”? Sorry – that’s not a slam, there is not a 20 year old in the world that would use that word in normal conversation and Bristol certainly wouldn’t. It is a fact that she’s not a college student, correct? Even college graduates don’t regularly use that word and I would know, since I am one. If that is a slam or a bash, you are much too delicate to be playing on the internet.
As for bashing her mother? She’s a political figure by her own choice and it is a FACT that she makes up words on a regular basis. If one can’t deal in facts and think it’s slander or a slam – well again, perhaps you’re too delicate for the net. And the Palin’s are for you certainly, since Sarah thinks that Katie Couric was too tough on her by asking her what she read. LOL – yeah, now that I think about it…..
LOL Jay, that was my response exactly. Canard?? Canard? Seriously?? Canard = red flag = publicist
I am in my 50′s with a BA…even I don’t know what canard means..What is the definition ?
canard:
“a false or unfounded report or story; especially: a fabricated report”
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/canard
Heidi: In your post 18, you said “its a FACT that she makes up words on a regular basis…” I haven’t seen examples of where Sarah Palin is doing that – can you provide some references, please?
Everybody sing!
“You should be dancing! Yeah!”
*cue disco horns*
Thank you Sally…I had never heard that word before.
One example of a Sarah Palin word….refudiate….whatever that was supposed to mean.
Yeah, sally, refudiate is the most recent example of Sarah making up a word and I’m totally not interested in doing the research required to find the numerous other examples of her doing it. You’ll have to either take my word for it or do it on your own – but NOT seeing it doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. I guess you could watch every speech she made from the 2008 elections – it did happen with regularity, so I’m sure it wouldn’t take long.
http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/07/19/sarah-palin-refudiate/
Oh and that “english is a living language” and the Shakespeare comment?? PUBLICIST. LOL – good way to dodge future word mishaps.
I had to repress a giggle when I read the word “canard”, I didn’t know it has this meaning in french too (canard = duck) until I checked out in the dictionnary. So funny it’s still used in the US.
Do you also use “poulet” (=chicken) as a love message ?
Thanks, Heidi. If you thought I was trying to say it hadn’t happened just because I didn’t see it, then you got the wrong impression. As I said, I just hadn’t seen it.
It’s bad enough to make up a word (or get your tongue tied); another thing entirely to defend it, so I’m really disappointed in Sarah Palin for that.
