DWTS Season 12 Cast Rumors – Time To Address The Brett Favre DWTS Rumors (Daughter Tweets “No”)
At the beginning of this week, we were hit with an article from Popeater with Kurt Warner’s desire for Brett Favre to dance on Dancing With The Stars. Since that time, other news sources have picked it up and the rumors have grown like a wildfire. Will Brett Favre dance on the show or not remains to be seen. But, the quote below (in bold text) from Popeater had me thinking this is not going to happen from the beginning of the week onward and why I dismissed even reporting it.
Kurt has made his thoughts on Brett known before, and recently told The New York Times that although he’s a “surefire Hall of Famer” and one of the game’s greatest, “I do think some of the things that happened off the field has to hurt his legacy to some degree. I do think people look at him differently now — at least in the short term — than they did five years ago.”
Maybe Brett should follow Kurt’s advice and dance those cell phone images right out of our minds. That’s if ABC would ever invite him, a prospect that my source says is unlikely.
“No way would ‘Dancing’ want any part of Brett,” a show insider tells me. “They love having colorful people in the cast but you have to remember this is a family show and not the right fit for someone who has been accused of e-mailing private photos of himself to young ladies.”
Not only that, USA Today is reporting that he won’t be dancing on the show. His daughter just posted this tweet this morning.
Brittany Favre, the daughter of longtime NFL QB Brett Favre, moved to stop speculation that he father might be joining the cast of Dancing with the Stars on Friday.
“No to DWTS rumors,” Brittany Favre said on Twitter a day after speculation ran wild that the 41-year-old QB might be the next NFL player to join the show.

I would say this is a “NO” go? Keep in mind though that an ABC news affiliate has reported Favre is on a “DWTS Shortlist”.
Heidi’s Comment: I think this entire thing comes from the mouth of Kurt Warner. And ABC is regurgitating crap they heard, which is regurgitated crap they heard, which is regurgitated crap they heard and so on. See it every day on twitter – the wishful thinking of one person turns into fact by the great game of “telephone”. I could be wrong. 🙂
Someone just took the off-hand statement that Kurt made and ran with it. A very wise soul over at <a href="http://bit.lyQuickish actually traced the rumor back to Kurt, and found no legit evidence anywhere along the way. One long, silly, covoluted game of telephone indeed, Heidi!
Although, as Heidi & I discussed as all this nonsense was unfolding on Twitter this morning – we’d much rather see Favre on DWTS than some of the other people rumored to be on the show this season. I’d take the Favreasaurus over Lindsay Lohan, Brooke Mueller, and some of the nobodies whose names we’ve been hearing. Something tells me he’d go out of his way to be on his best behavior, too – he would do the show for image clean-up, above all else. But really, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about – he’s got some legal issues to sort out, and didn’t some fairly-serious ankle injury cut his season short?
Sorry, that link was supposed to be http://bit.ly/e2Zwfe
Can you tell me why and how an offhand comment from Kurt Warner resulted in such a media blitz? He never said Brett was going to be on the show, yet every successive article including your own, lends credence to this in some way and all he did was give an opinion to a popeater.com columnist. I just don’t see how news was made out of nothing at all.
Tell me where exactly our article “lends credence” to this rumor, Jessica. Last I checked we were dispelling it and laughing at the craziness that resulted from it. And if you can’t see how news was made out of nothing – go pick up a tabloid. People do it everyday. And since TPTB have been so tight-lipped about the new cast this go-round, people are having to really reach to find things to report on this season…hence the firestorm that resulted from one offhand comment. Now in our experience, sometimes a casting rumor that it completely ridiculous upon first hearing it begins to become a possibility as we hear it over and over again. Case in point? Kate Gosselin & Bristol Palin. We scoffed at those rumors when we heard them, but lo and behold, they ended up on the show. Will Favre end up on DWTS? We won’t know for sure until the cast is announced on the 28th. But I doubt this one has any weight to it.
I’ve been watching this unfold and it’s pretty amazing how a rumor can get out of hand. Even if it’s true it’s a rumor for the wrong reasons! Unless of course Kurt was being super sly…
Thanks Courtney. I was just reading over this post trying to figure out where we “lend credence” to this rumor? Jessica, we never reported on or even addressed this rumor all week until this post since we didn’t think it was worthy of a mention.
Here is where I thought one of your statements ‘lends credence in some way’ as I put it: “Will Brett Favre dance on the show or not remains to be seen”….the way that is worded attributes some believability to it, when really it was just a comment made by Kurt with no basis in truth at the time that he said it. and don’t mind me, I’m just ticked that when this ‘story’ broke Monday, it took attention from an article I posted that morning that WAS doing well out there — I was scooped by a retired quarterback who made a flip comment and not to happy!!!! lmao
Oh Jessica – you answer your own question, as I’ll explain. If you post several items/comments that indicate something ISN’T true, you aren’t lending credence to it, you are casting doubt on the validity. No one, at this point is going to say “this is absolutely NOT TRUE” – because we don’t actually work for the show, therefore we can’t be sure. But lend credence?? Give me a break.
And if you don’t understand how this got to be a story at all you don’t have to go far to figure it out. Study how the media works these days – they don’t do any investigative reporting, they just regurgitate over and over what they read elsewhere. Then they change one word or phrase – such as: “Kurt Warner wants Favre on DWTS” over time becomes “Favre’s going to be on DWTS??” through a telephone game….and before you know it it’s become a “casting rumor”. I have gone out of my way to post about this problem on the net and address here the difference between wishful thinking and an honest to god rumor. Another problem that ties into this is reading comprehension skills – something that Jessica has a bit of a problem with as well. People read TOO FAST or they no longer (thanks to twitter and texting and the ensuing language shortcuts) see the nuances in the written word. They read the first example, above, and comprehend it in their brain as the second one. Slow down and READ, people!!! The Favre example is far from the first time this has happened. Nearly every rumor you’ve heard about the cast for this season has been the result of a celebrity saying “I would love to be on DWTS” changing through laziness or stupidity or an attempt to get hits to “So and so is going to be on DWTS??” Personally, I think some of it is willful stupidity on the part of bloggers – they know they are making something out of nothing and don’t care.
I swear, those of us who work on this site are some of the few who actually dig to try to find if something is for real or not – hence, the extreme LACK of casting rumors. :::sigh:::
But it does remain to be seen Jessica!! Unless you work for the show you can’t definitively say it’s not true. All you can say is you don’t think it’s true, which is what we did. That’s just a wise use of qualifiers in the off chance that Kurt was being clever.
ETA: You also can’t look at one sentence out of the context of an entire article – that’s just as bad as not reading the whole article before commenting. I don’t even know if it’s possible to question validity and lend credence at the same time, if you keep everything in context.
I think judging my reading comprehension skills was personal and unnecessary.
I stand by my comment that “remains to be seen” lends credence, in the way that it’s influencing people to think its something under consideration, that it could go one way or another, when in fact the orginal post by popeater also contained a quote from a ‘show insider’ summing it up as a baseless statement. But yes, the media attention on the story took off with a life of its own and headlines and tweets were spun, etc..
I don’t mind healthy debate, but let’s keep it impersonal.
And I stand by my comments, Jessica – if you don’t like them, that’s too bad.
Father and daughter teams? One thing is certain-the producers love all this speculation.
I just wanted to say that I love this site and I love the posts and what I like most is that you try to operate with logic, facts, and reason. It’s so different than the ABC DWTS board. I may not always agree 100% with everything written, but I at least can feel confident that you try to arrive at your conclusions reasonably (and I almost always agree anyway).
Aw, thanks, Fig. That’s very nice of you to say. And that is what we try to do. I don’t know that we always succeed, but we give it the old college try. 🙂
… and for the second time in 24 hours, I wholeheartedly agree with Figamentation; this time about the validity and integrity of this site! 🙂
Heidi, you are so right-on about people’s reading skills today. Slow down and read every word! It’s just a product of our hurry-up kind of world, I guess.
I love how the ‘show insider’ says they like colorful people on the show but not someone who sends out pictures of their privates because its a family show, yet they had no issues with having Kim Kardashian on the show who was really only famous for having a sex tape. Way to be hypocritical.
I wouldn’t mind him on the show actually. If he ever did the show it would be cool. As for his legal issues and bad press as of late, I have two words for you: Kim Kardashian. She had a sex tape and went on the show and now is a major celebrity for no apparant reason. Brett made a mistake, no doubt about it BUT at least he has talent and has had a fan base for years prior to this scandel. I really hope he does the show at some point in the future though.
@JenH – I would take the “show insider” part with a grain of salt – sounds pretty suspect to me – but yeah, I guess I can see where some would find it hypocritical that the show would take Kim but pass on Brett. The only justification I can come up with is that Kim’s sex tape was done in the privacy of her own home, without any sort of intention of it becoming public (debateable), and both she & her boyfriend were willing participants (at least they sure seemed like it – yes, I have seen the tape. Sue me :-)) As for Brett, his advances were unsolicited and unwelcome, so I guess you could look at it as sexual harrassment vs. “Oops, didn’t mean for that to get leaked!” Flimsy justification, yes, but it’s the best one I can come up with. And perhaps timing had something with Kim being allowed to do DWTS – the tape scandal had happened almost 2 years prior, so the hype had died down a bit. Brett’s scandal is still very much in the headlines, and he will likely be dealing with legal consequences soon.
@vin – Agree on Brett & Kim. I still have to shake my head when I see how famous all the Kardashians are, despite none of them having any marketable talent – except their butts. To quote a friend on Twitter – “The Kardashians are reaching a level of annoying overexposure comparable to red velvet cupcakes!” (I’m also baffled at the popularity of those too – they taste like nothing!) Brett is at least famous for something tangible, and has been famous for it for quite a bit longer than any of the Kardashians. I would like to see him do the show someday too – could be a reputation cleaner-upper, a la Lil Kim. Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future.
Well, we might not know who’s dancing…. but we do know Bruno Mars will be first musical guest. NICE!
http://rumorfix.com/full-entry/2011/2/14/exclusive-bruno-mars-to-perform-on-dancing-with-the-stars.html
I wonder if he’ll sing Dancing with the stars.
I like red velevet cupcakes lol. When done right they really taste good (the ones at starbucks are top-notch). I think that Bruce has talent though (as seen through his achievements at the Olympics). I love bruno Mars!!!! He rocked it at the grammys and i think won best male pop vocal (which i think should have gone to Michael Buble but I’m glad that he won nonetheless lol) If he ever did the show, it would be great. The gilr he preformed with (Jenealle Mone or somrthing like that) should do the show. I never heard of her before the grammys last night and she really is talented.

Janelle Monae has been on DWTS, Vin.
Didn’t remember her performing on the show. When I meant she should do the show I meant as a contestant.
