DWTS Season 12 – Las Vegas Odds Before Showtime Week 3

Once again, what another week of dancing makes! To make it a little easier to understand the odds, this time we put them in order. Note how Chelsea and Chris are tied for 4th. Sugar Ray really took a dip from our previous posting last week, but, I don’t think it would be wise for the odds makers to count him out just yet. Same with Kendra and Romeo! This competition is anyone’s ballgame….or in this case, betting game. Please Everyone, be sure you VOTE tomorrow night all you can for your favorite dancing couple(s).

1. Ralph Macchio 2/1
2. Kirstie Alley 4/1
3. Hines Ward 9/2
4. Chelsea Kane 5/1
4. Chris Jericho 5/1
5. Lil’ Romeo 15/2
6. Kendra Wilkinson 10/1
7. Petra Nemcova 18/1
8. Sugar Ray Leonard 25/1
9. Wendy Williams 75/1

DWTS 12 – ESPN: “The dojo may be closed, but Ralph Macchio is flashing the same type of footwork…”

Ralph Maccio spoke with ESPN this week. He told them his “dance sensei” Karina Smirnoff is just as good as teaching the jive as Mr. Miyagi was jump kicks in The Karate Kid. More below and at the link.

“Fear does not exist in this dance studio — that’s what Karina keeps telling me,” Macchio said. “[But] if you’re the Mr. Miyagi to me, then how come you can’t run your hands together and make my knees feel better?”

1984’s “Karate Kid” thrust Macchio into the spotlight faster than a Stephen Strasburg four-seamer, but its enduring effect on pop culture is what amazes the Long Island-native. Consider it crane kitsch. Even Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jonny Gomes was recently singing the ’80’s anthem “You’re the Best”, which Macchio says was actually intended for “Rocky”.

“‘Sweep the leg’, ‘Put him in a body bag’, catching flies with chopsticks, the film is loaded with images and catch phrases,” Macchio said. “‘Wax on, wax off’ could almost be in the dictionary now and that’s pretty cool. But how do you know that’s gonna happen? You can’t make that happen.”

Macchio is enjoying his return to center stage, but this time around, don’t expect any karate birds.

“‘Dancing with the Stars’ asked me like 20 times to do the crane kick,” he said. “If you give me the mirror ball trophy, then we’ll talk about it.”

Dancing With The Stars 12 – Sugar Ray Leonard Dancing For Diabetes

I didn’t realize Sugar Ray had a personal struggle with diabetes until I read this article from Pacific Pailsades. My husband has diabetes and it keeps him challenged. Even when he’s doing all the right things to fight it and keep it dormant, it’s like a “sleeping dog” waiting to wake up. Who can relate?

The former boxing champion said he wants people tuning into the 12th season of the reality competition to be aware of a cause close to his heart, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Sugar Ray Leonard’s commitment to the cause of Juvenile Diabetes stems from his own personal experience, he said.

“My father’s diabetes and care was the turning point for me to go pro,” said Leonard.

A longtime advocate for diabetes awareness, Leonard testified at a congressional hearings and met with Nevada Senator Harry Reid, along with representatives from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Children’s Congress back in 2009, as a part of the annual “Children’s Congress” for the JDRF.

“I also have the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation that my wife, Bernadette, and I founded and we also support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and its annual Walk for a Cure,” he said. “Plus community outreach to help with making accessible housing, healthcare services, and educational services and job training available for those in need.”

When testifying at Congress in 2009, Leonard revealed his personal struggle with the disease that affects 25.8 million children and adults in America, which is 8.3 percent of the population, according
to the American Diabetes Association.

He cited the financial strain that the overwhelming cost of diabetes and its numerous associated complications put on his family, as well as the burden it places on the national health care system. In 2007, diabetes costs exceeded 24 billion in his home state of California, he said.

“I also want to keep showing my support for the JDRF and hope my footwork here helps that awareness too,” said Leonard. “This show and all the people on it are wonderful,” said Leonard.

As always, be sure to read the link for the full story. Like a few of our other dancing celebrities, here’s to Sugar Ray for dancing with a great cause in mind.

DWTS Season 12, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Okay, this could be one crazy week, for sure. 🙂 The celebs are telling a story that’s personal to them? Oh dear. This rarely bodes well. I can’t say that I’m a fan of this theme. But then, most of you know I’m not a fan of themes in general, although I did like the acoustic night that wasn’t. That will probably be the one they don’t do again. 🙂

Now, does someone want to explain to me why we get FIVE rumbas and a hodgepodge (tm Len) for the remaining dances?? What on earth? It’s only week 3, it’s not like they’re running out of dances. Someone clue me in here. I can’t even guess what is going on – at first I thought all the top dancers were getting rumba and everyone else was getting something that played to their strengths. But then I saw that Hines has Samba and Chelsea has Cha Cha – arguably dances that will play to their strengths. They included Kendra in with the rumbas, so that also shot that theory. So, are Ralph and Kirstie so dominating the voting that they were given the rumba, while Hines and Chelsea need a little help so they got more uptempo dances? Same principle applies to Ray? The waltz definitely benefits Petra better than a Samba or a Rumba would. The only explanation I can come up with for this random set up is that it’s not random at all and it’s a bit of deck stacking to level the playing field – or attempting to. After all they got SO much attention with “shocking” eliminations…lord, I’m such a cynic. 🙂 Hey…anyone got a better explanation?? Back in the day, 3 years ago, they had two dances and you did one or the other. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Pure DWTS 2011 – Hotwire Mark Ballas Music Video Ft. Chelsea Kane (Video)

In the last post on Mark and Chelsea, PureDWTS reader AL mentioned that we hadn’t posted on Mark’s new video called “Hotwire” starring his dance partner Chelsea Kane. So, here it is. What do you think of “Hotwire” and the video? Does Mark have a winner here and do you like it? I think it’s pretty good and probably Mark’s best song to date.

If you’d like to download “Hotwire”, you can do so at iTunes here:: Hotwire – HurtLoveBox

Special Thanks to Al and John for the heads up and helping with this post!!
