DWTS Season 12, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Oy veh, based on our competitors and the dances for the week…and the “theme”…this has the potential to be either cheesy goodness or boring as hell. The Jury will remain out until tomorrow night.
So, what do we have? The Waltz, Viennese Waltz and the Paso Doble. WTF? Why 2 Waltzes?? Why? Add to that it’s “Classical” week and there will be a different stage (per Maks), plus a 40 piece orchestra (per Anna)…what does “classical” week mean?? All Classical Music, according to Anna. Well, that’s exciting. (end sarcasm) One of the fun things about this show is when they pick crazily wrong songs for a particular dance!!
Ah well…on with the show. I wonder if one week they can do Rock Week again, but with an actual ROCK Band.
Ralph and Karina – Waltz
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.08
Kenda and Louis – Viennese Waltz – Dancing 2nd
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.07
Chelsea and Mark – Viennese Waltz
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.01
Kirstie and Maks – Waltz – Dancing Last per Maks
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.11
Romeo and Chelsie – Paso Doble – Dancing FIRST per Chelsie
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.05
Chris and Cheryl – Paso Doble – Dancing 8th per Cheryl
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.09
Hines and Kym – Paso Doble
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.03
Sugar Ray and Anna – Viennese Waltz
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.06
Petra and Dmitry – Paso Doble
Voting Number: 1.800.VOTE4.04
So, we have four Paso Dobles, three V. Waltzes and two “slow” waltzes. I think Hines and Chris will rock the paso, but I’m not so sure about Petra and Romeo – both need to do very well. I can also see Kirstie, Ralph and Chelsea doing very well with their respective waltzes. As for the rest, very hard to say. It does seem they split the dances so that there were top tier performers and lower tier performers in each dance group. Very interesting.
ETA: The Stage – mucho Thanks to Tommy B (aka The Berge)

Ooooo….prewty Petra

I’m very excited about Hines’ paso doble! I know I already posted the videos the other day but there was one of Kym doing the Paso Doble on the Aussie version of DWTS with the same song they are doing this week. I loved the song, I cannot stop listening to it so I’m really excited about tomorrow!
I hope they let them interact with the orchestra a little bit (if you saw the video you know what I mean) because I think that would be cool but not sure whether that will happen or not.
I think Petra is going to do good actually. The paso seems to be reliant on beautiful lines and whatnot and that what I think she is best at. Romeo is probably next to go but if sugar ray doesn’t deliver again I wouldn’t think twice and put him in the bottom two. He is fun to watc hand all but the dude is probably one of the worst dancers left. I’m a huge fan of his and it pains me to say that but its the sad truth.
I read/heard that it was also movie theme week. All the classical pieces (whether modern or really classic) will be from movie soundtracks. I’m actually looking forward to it!
Yeah I am really excited about these movie pieces – I am a total movie score/soundtrack fiend, and I love classical music so this is right up my alley! Very stoked, yayayyayayy!
I run some stats of my own, but they did not turn out predictions as accurate as I had hoped –most likely because they are very pro-based. My predictions based solely on how each pro scores on their type of dance; and adjusted for reality/how far they usually make it in the show below that:
Dmitry/Petra: 30
Maks/Kirstie: 26
Cheryl/Chris: 26
Kym/Hines: 24
Karina/Ralph: 24
Anna T./S. Ray: 24
Mark/Chelsea: 23
Chelsie/Romeo: 21
Louis/Kendra: 21
or:
Cheryl/Chris: 28
Dmitry/Petra: 26
Maks/Kirstie: 26
Kym/Hines: 24
Louis/Kendra: 21
Karina/Ralph: 20
Mark/Chelsea: 20
Anna T/S Ray: 19
Chelsie/Romeo: 18
If the songs are from movies, which movie/tv/video game soundtrack is Bond’s Explosive on (which is Hines’ music)? I saw that this song has been used in a car commercial and possibly other other commercials too. Curious, if any of the songs on David Garrett’s or Katherine Jenkins’s albums will be used. They both have a version of Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever” which I associate with tv/movie Highlander. I like David Garrett’s “I am a Pirate” from Pirates of the Caribbean but not sure if it is Paso material, but I must say that would make for an interesting Paso.
I dunno – it all seems like overkill. So, they’re changing the stage, the orchestra, the singers, making it classical night AND movie theme night?? They really need to chill on this need to top themselves and just…oh, I dunno…TRAIN the camera operators and the sound guys maybe?? It’s no wonder there are production errors every week. There’s something to be said for finding a formula and then doing it VERY well.
Ugh, talk about overkill on the theme weeks… I as totally over them last season, and was hoping beyond hope they would lay off a bit…. Not sure what they’re paying our pros, but I am sure it’s very underpaid, considering all of the challenges they keep throwing their way….
Heidi and Courtney, have you ever thought of handing the production peoe at dwts a cheesecake award for overuse of THEME????
All I know is that Kirstie is going to have a great night. Waltz will be perfect for her.
I think one of the couples that have the Paso will be eliminated.
Double-theme week? Oh please, give us (and the pros) a break. I thought classical week might be bearably different, but then they had to throw movie theme night on top of it.
Vin is right that Sugar Ray is undoubtedly the weakest dancer left. Unless he’s rocking the fan vote, he should be next to go. I wonder how Romeo is doing in the voting. I’d like to see him stay, but the demographics just seem all wrong for him.
I think Cidra and Vin are right – Sugar Ray is the weakest of the dancers left. He should be the one going home on Tuesday. It’s a shame, because he’s such a nice guy. But so far, this has been one of the best seasons I’ve seen in a while! TPTB did a great job picking the celebs this time around!
This theme could be pretty epic, but IMO only if it’s a full orchestra, not a string orchestra. That would actually be pretty epic if it had full orchestra instrumentation with proper percussion and everything, because that music is far from boring
sorry, band geek alert. Lemme just say, if one of the Paso dancers has any of the music from Carmen, my head will asplode
There’s something to be said for finding a formula and then doing it VERY well. Ain’t that the truth. Interesting week, to see if Ralph can regain momentum. Certainly, the longer a competition goes, I think it favors the “pros” who have done best historically-three male and three female pros have won the 11 competitions. Alec and Julianne are long gone, Derek is off, that leaves Kym, Mark and Cheryl. Maks or Karina have quite a challenge in my opinion?
Oh wait it’s movie theme night AND classical night…? So movie soundtracks….the first thing that comes to mind for me oddly is the Inception score
that would be hilarious!! A Paso Doble to BWAAAAHHH BWAAAAHHH
I don’t know that it’s going to be ‘movie theme’ as it was last year though, folks. More like Mandy says… music from movie soundtracks. But… I guess we’ll see in around 22 hours!
I don’t think Hines will get a 24. Kym is one of the best paso doble choreographers and makes each dance work out really well for her partners and both Joey F and Warren got an encore for their paso dobles. Hines keeps improving every week (1st week, he got 21. Second week, 23 and third week, 25) and NFL players do really well with the Paso Doble. They have the aggression and the ability to pull off the emotion in the Paso Doble after being in the football field. I know Hines is all smile but I think he can surprise us by doing the dance without a smile.
Overkill on the themes. I mean really. I cannot wait until Hines paso and Kirstie’s Waltz. I just know that those two are gonna rock it.
Why do I have a feeling that they are setting PEtra up for an elimination. The paso is a dance that I just do not think will fit her. But I can be wrong
Looks like Romeo is dancing first:

The paso is a tough dance because I think it requires more acting skills then the other dances. This makes it more of a mental strain. Those who have a flare for the dramatic and those who can multi-task well will have an advantage, IMO.
I actually don’t mind the themes. This weeks does sound like it may be a bit much. It will be interesting to see how it all works out.
Hey Figamentation, maybe we will have our Yumeji’s theme after all (tough I think Hedwig’s theme is more probable)
Totally agree about the double themes – one or the other please! I am looking forward to the classical theme though. Love Kym and Hines’ music; love Kym and Hines! How did that happen??? I started out as a Kirstie and Ralph fan, although I still like them too.
I think the fans will keep Kirstie on for awhile, but I am a little worried about her dancing. First, the mess in the quickstep and then the fall last week. They recovered well, but if we don’t see a clean dance soon from them, I think it’s going to catch up with them. I find myself pulling for Maks though in Derek’s absence this year. Somebody hit me!
I, too, am worried about Petra and the paso, but the judges seem to love her. I really don’t think her dancing is all that. She’s sweet though.
And is it just me or is Mark getting worse every year???? Is there a choreographer of the year award or something, cuz he seems to be gunning for it???? Stick to the dance for cryin’ out loud! Rant over!
Classical music geek checking in…. the music they’re using won’t be real classical, of course. But, it still should be fun.
I didn’t understand Maks’ comment that they’d have a singer performing with them. ????? Katherine Jenkins is supposed to sing MONDAY. ??? Not a huge fan of hers…. so …. let’s see.
What’s Mark going to do? Can he wear eyeliner or lashes for such a formal dance? Polka dots? Yeah, maybe just some blusher this week.
Me thinks he’s gunning for an Emmy nomination, Meggie. He’s still competing with Derek, Mia, NappyTabs, et al though – don’t know if he realizes it. Season 11 saw Derek with a couple stellar dances – I really think that acoustic Paso has a shot. It’s always harder with a celeb partner than it is with another pro though. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that the last week or 2 of season 10 gets completely ignored – eligible for last years Emmy’s via date, but can’t make the DVD submission date because it’s a live show. There was a lot of great dancing from Evan and Nicole in those last two weeks.
In the long run, what’s more important, an emmy or the MBT? Re the MBT, if Mark can’t win with Chelsea, who can he win with?
Olympians?
LOL^^ I think Mark is getting worse too. It’s like he’s trying to show off….and I don’t like his sloppiness during rehearsals either. I wish I didn’t think this…but, I think Mark and Chelsea are annoying and conceited.
I agree about Mark. For some reason this season whenever he and Chelsea are on screen they just annoy me. Idk why. I just feel like they (especially Chelsea) are trying too hard
@Heidi. “Olympians?” — LOL — Good one!
@Vogue. I think Marky-poo is having a harder and harder time separating his music aspirations from his ballroom bread-and-butter. He thrives on the creative license he has as a musician and the constraints of the ballroom are starting to chaffe. He needs to do a better job compartmentalizing. Otherwise he’s doing a disservice to his celeb partner. I don’t think of Chelsea as conceited – terminally perky maybe, but I don’t see conceited. When I think conceited, Kendra’s face is front and center.
I think Mark, like recent seasons, really just wants to be doing his music. He knows that being on DWTS gives him greater exposure but I just don’t see him being motivated just to do it for the competition, so instead he tries to be all out of the box with his choreography to stave off the boredom. I think Chelsea is cute and funny, but there’s other celebs that are more likable that will probably go further than she does, even though she’s a good dancer.
You’re not alone on that Voguerista…I too think Mark and Chelsea are definitely annoying…conceited??…maybe a little bit.
Can’t wait for Maks and Kirstie’s waltz. He said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show that it’ll be like their comeback after last week. All eyes are definitely gonna be on them to see how they do. Hopefully, if they do leave something for us to talk about all week, it’ll be something positive
Mark is getting to be one of the pros that when he is coming up next its ‘time to put my laundry away syndrome’. I pretty much have tuned him out. I barely watch him, his behavior is strange, and I also get the feeling hes trying too hard. That week 2 dance was creepy, and odd.
I don’t believe it’s movie theme week, just classical week. Maybe the songs are from movies but I don’t know about that. And yes they have 2 singers along with the orchestra – I think at least one couple has an opera song. Looking forward to Hines and Kym’s Paso, it’s extremely ambitious and energetic.
Heidi, I was wondering about the cut off week for the Emmy nominations in regards to S10 & S11. If it is week 9, then Derek/Nicole’s Paso Doble can be considered because that dance was performed in Week 8. Also, I think Jennifer/Derek’s 2nd Paso Doble & Acoustic Argentine Tango can definietly be nominated for an Emmy. I hope so anyway.
Perhaps Mark should just be shot…
There’s a really high expectation for Hines and Kym, and while I really hope they pull it off, they are definitely my favorite sometimes it’s a letdown going in too high. Kirstie and Maks only have to not fall and they are gold.
To Wendy: ….or just be fired! No more polka dots! No more false eye lashes! lol
No, Dee, all of Nicole and Evan’s dances fall into last season’s Emmy’s unfortunately. Unless they have overlapping cycles. It took me a lot of research to figure out where those dates fall and the problem comes with DWTS being a live show. It falls within last Emmy’s window, but since the DVD submission date was in late April, those dances couldn’t be submitted in time to be in contention. It kinda sucks. It will be the same issue for this season – if any of the finalists choreograph Emmy worthy dances, they won’t be able to make the DVD submission date because they are actually performed AFTER that date.
At least, that’s how I understand it.
About the emmy question, Im relatively new to this site and im curious, I know some pros have been nominated in the past, but Which pros have won an emmy? And for what dance performances?
Thanks to anyone with the answer.
Oh, boy – Kendra in bad spot and Kirstie in the pimp spot. Sounds about right.
Thanks Heidi, I really hope the Redemption Paso Doble & Acoustic Argentine Tango with Jennifer & Derek are Emmy nominated. They were both AMAZING!
I love Kirstie, but this is week 4 and she is last again. I realize the strategy but it really doesnt seem quite fair some of the other dancers does it. Oh wait, who says these shows are fair…
Kendra and Louis get the crap shot again. There’s a shock.
LOL, Heid!! What I dont get about ” classical ” week is that when I think classical I think old european like Bach and Bethoven, i dont at all think the dance of the bullfight I mean lets get real, what is this, Queen Victoria meets Nacho Libre?
what was the name, and who recorded the last song that sugar ray danced to as the show ended on april 14th
Are you talking about “Bitterweet Symphony”? If so, it was originally recorded by The Verve. (one of my favorite songs)
