DWTS 12, Week 5 – Dancing With The Stars “Yankee Doodle Dandy” Entertainment
As most of you know from our earlier postings, comments, and the announcement on the show last week, this week is Patriot Week. To go along with the theme, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting Toby Keith will be performing in the Results show Tuesday night. The “Macy’s Stars of Dance” will also be performing again. More details below.
“Dancing With the Stars” will put a “Yankee Doodle Dandy” spin on its shows next week. The show went classical this week, and American Week is coming Monday.
The ABC dance contest will have the eight remaining couples perform to classic American-themed songs at 8 p.m. Monday on WFTV-Channel 9.
Toby Keith will play the results show at 9 p.m. Tuesday. He will sing “American Soldier” to salute U.S. troops overseas, and he also will perform “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” Jamal Sims will choreograph the “Macy’s Stars of Dance” number.
Since I’m not a big “Country” muisc fan, I’m not sure I will like the theme this week? But, I’ve thought that about other themes on Dancing With The Stars and then I ended up liking them. We’ll see? Here’s to this week’s show everyone. Bring them on. 😀
Hey there, Vogue…
Just because it’s America Week, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the music is all going to be Country music. Yes, there will be some, because Toby Keith is Country. I think you will enjoy his performance of American Soldier, it’s a very touching song… And if Anna and Jonathan are dancing….. There will probably be tears. I welled up watching the video.
Remember the song America by Neil Diamond? Definitely not Country.
Hmmm… I am not thinking well right now, because I can’t think of many America Theme songs… Especially ones NOT Country…
Thanks Lori and good points. With your post, I was just remembering how Bruce Springsteen did “Born In The USA”. Lenny Kravitz did “American Woman”. What about “American Pie” (I like Madonna’s version)? Anyway, I hope it’s not all Country.
Would it be possible to collect here, as many songs as we can think of here, that would fit the theme, and then post the videos all in one post? Then we can guess which songs we think will fit the dances that will be done…. ???
Thanks Vogue! There will probably be some older type patriotic songs as well. ie. Ballad of the Green Beret, Yankee Doodle Dandy, America the Beautiful, etc.
Awesome idea Lori!! Keep posting songs everyone and I’ll put a video post together in the morning. 😉 You have until 9:00am ET, sound good? (such a great idea and it will be a celebration of our country at the same time too)
I just hope that the producers don’t mix up a song’s original intent with what is portrayed tomorrow… example – Born in the USA is an indictment of the country, American Woman is anti-woman…
The producers are not in charge of how the couples portray their given song, so don’t blame that on them.
And the songs do not necessarily have “America” or “USA” in the title – could be about a state for example also.
Never thought about a state too! Oh, Buttercup, that makes me feel a little better about things! “New York State of Mind”, “Weekend in New England”, those jump to mind! Probably showing my age, but… now I won’t be so worried about Sousa marches! *LOL*
I left my heart in San Francisco
Mississippi Girl
Hmmm…..
I love New York….
I guess when you say americana instead of America it does lend itself to stuff like “New York State of Mind” as opposed to America the Beautiful.
Yellow Rose of Texas?
How about locality-based? For instance, “Rocky Mountain High”, “Thank God, I’m a Country Boy” [both John Denver, not true country]…or “Dirt Road Anthem” or “Kick It In The Sticks” [both Brantley Gilbert – true country], etc.
It’s My Kind of Town (Chicago)
New York, New York (from “On the Town”)
Georgia on My Mind
Tennessee Waltz (except no one has slow waltz this week)
[…] reader Lori had a great idea in the “Yankie Doodle Dandy” Entertianment Post to quess which “American” themed songs our dancing couples might be dancing to tonight. […]
Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland.
How About God Bless America!
American Woman is probably a good song for a Samba or Cha, Cha! Mark/Chelsea may get that song.
Ugh. Crappy music. Ridiculous costumes. Tacky “patriotic” theme. I congratulate the dancers for just getting through it. I’m glad Kirstie didn’t have another stupid mishap and I’m glad Romeo finally shut up about the shoes. I hope that next week they give the dancers a chance to get it right.
