DWTS Season 12, Week 5 – Dancing by the Numbers!
I only saw part of it, but I think it’s highly possible that Americana week was the most craptastic episode of Dancing with the Stars EVER. And I mean EVER. Not even Derek Hough could have saved this dog. Although the scenery would have been better for me.
That was the stupidest 40 minutes of TV I have ever watched – and I have to watch the whole thing when I get home in order to come up with Cheesecake Awards. The things I do for you people.
Those of you who missed humor in last week’s version – well, you can probably forget it in this weeks as well.
Anyway, I think that Hines is safe. The problem with craptastic theme weeks is that it could make the results really, really wonky. But I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Chelsea, Ralph, Kirstie and Chris are also safe. Yes, Ralph got one of the lower scores of the night, but I think he is pretty well loved – I would wager he’s doing better votes wise than Chelsea, Petra, Kendra and Romeo, at least. But I jump ahead. What were the scores??
The Judges Scores and Percentages
| Place | Celebrity | Score | Percentage |
| 1. | Hines | 27 | 13.92 |
| 2. | Chelsea | 26 | 13.40 |
| 3. | Romeo | 26 | 13.40 |
| 4. | Chris | 26 | 13.40 |
| 5. | Kirstie | 23 | 11.86 |
| 6. | Petra | 22 | 11.34 |
| 7. | Kendra | 22 | 11.34 |
| 8. | Ralph | 22 | 11.34 |
Hines is in the top spot with a three way tie for second place between Chelsea, Romeo, and Chris. Then we have the rest of the pack: Ralph, Kirstie, Petra and Kendra. Now, I think that Ralph and Kirstie are going to survive their low scores easily. I hope.
Which means it will likely come down to Petra and Kendra. Keep in mind that this was such a craptastic week of DWTS that it’s entirely possible that half the regular viewers turned the channel after half an hour. And what happens when the voting is left entirely to those who are rabid?? Well, probably the same thing – poor Petra. But it’s also possible that we could have a “shocking” elimination tonight.
Essentially, between Ralph, Kendra and Petra – whoever gets the most votes between the three of them stays. Well, I would be shocked if Ralph isn’t beating them by a mile in votes. So what would it take for both Petra and Kendra to also survive?? One of the following would have to happen for the BOTH of them:
- Both would have to get ONE more vote per million vote cast than Ralph for him to go home, or;
- Both would have to get 5160 more votes per million votes cast than Kirstie, or;
- Both would have to get 20,620 more votes per million votes cast than either Romeo, Chelsea or Chris, OR;
- Both would have to get 25,780 more votes per million votes cast than Hines.
Does anyone believe that either Kendra or Petra can score that many more votes than their competition? MAYBE Romeo and Chris, but I don’t think so. I am leaning toward Petra going home, but it would not surprise me if it were Kendra. Actually, neither Romeo or Chelsea going home would shock me either right now, but I don’t really think that is going to happen – 20k votes is a pretty nice cushion.
I could write lots more, but I’ve been traveling all day and I’m wiped – this will appear on Tuesday morning, but it was written Monday night – and I’m tired. At some point on Tuesday night I will write a wrap up and if there is an elimination other than Petra or Kendra, I’ll discuss what it took for it to happen.

Thank you Heidi for doing this. I love seeing the numbers in black and white!
Thanks for the vote list. Thought the judging last night was hideous! Like a bad version of American Idol. Conrad Green must have Nigel envy! All the guys got away with murder and all the girls got critique and scored down for the same this the guys did! Not right I tell ya! Hines barely moves while Kym dances around him and he gets the highest scores of the night while Chelsea & Mark are nearly perfect!?! Romeo misses two beats of the song, almost falls over and it’s his best dance yet??? Chris lags behind Cheryl through the whole dance, she almost drags him across the floor but the judges are more interested in her “mountains” and give him great scores while they accuse Petra of exactly what Chris had just done! Up until this week at least judging had been uniform for all. This week, in a really close competition they really screwed up. If CarrieAnn gushes over one more guy dancing they should send her across the hall to join Jennifer on Idol!
I sure hope that Kendra has pissed enough people off (and enough of Petra’s fans come through) that it’s Kendra that goes home – she has now surpassed Wendy as my least favorite contestant this season. It’s a shame, too – she was the one I was most excited to see prior to the start of this season. What a disappointment
In other news, I hear that Romeo & Chelsie got the encore tonight. Woohoo!!!
Ralph may not make it much longer?? Stranger things have happened, I guess One wonders if DWTS producers know which celebs are drawing the ratings?? Based on history, Kym, Cheryl and Mark can drive their partners further along in the competition??
Of all the dances last night, Viva Las Vegas was the most appropriate song for the Quickstep. It sure looked like Petra was hanging onto Dimitry for dear life (and who wouldn’t) ; she also had difficult choreograhy (at least it looked like it to me); I really hope she makes it past tonight. Although it appeared like she was giving her good bye speech to Brooke last night. Please pray to the dancing gods that Kendra is shown the door tonight.
Knowing Steeler Nation was behind Hines I kinda wish I would’ve given some of my votes to Hines.
For those saying that Hines just stood there, its because it was RUMBA. The guy is suppose to support the girl and he did that. And I haven’t seen alot of guys on the show move and do the spins and the leg lift that he did last night. He deserved his score. I think a few others might’ve deserved higher. Was almost hoping Kendra got an even lower score. Can not stand her.
That was suppose to say I wish I would’ve given some of my votes to Ralph. Sorry, long day!
Heidi: “The things I do for you people. Those of you who missed humor in last week’s version – well, you can probably forget it in this weeks as well.”
ROTFLLLL
“CRAPTASTIC”<<< LOLLL!!
And Heidi, now I’m so afraid for Ralph. If he’s picked to go home, the producers are the ones to blame for the theme. I still think Karina was wrong to play him out like a Cowboy. UGGH
GOSH JUST SEND KENDRA HOME AT THE START OF THE SHOW AND CALL IT A NIGHT! Im getting annoyed DWTS right now…seriously.
Oh please let Kendra go home! She is just low class, demonstrated by her little tantrum in rehearsal. YUK!
I love me some Kirstie & Maks, I was a little dismayed at her mid-riff baring illusion gouchos costume but the minute Maks took his shirt off who cared!!
Yes, Kirstie and Maks did lack technique last night, but I still think it was a great routine. Why? He definitely worked with her strengths, and choreographed around that. And her biggest strength is her ability to ENTERTAIN! Honestly, I think I smiled the most watching them…. No, they may not have been the best, but they went out, and RULED THE FLOOR while they were out there, they had a BLAST, and it showed!
As for Kendra, I am glad she was happier, and that she was more confident, but marching around on the floor isn’t a smooth foxtrot. I do think she has reached the edge of her dance floor, hopefully, she’ll get nudged off tonight…
@KC – While I agree that the man’s primary role in the rumba is to support the lady, I don’t think that all it entails is just standing there – and I felt like Hines did more of that last night than anything else. For me, what makes a good rumba on the part of the guy is his ability to still feel active & engaged in the dance, even when he isn’t moving. So far, I think the male contestant that’s come the closest to actually achieving that this season is (surprisingly) Chris – I really felt like he was “present” in his rumba with Cheryl. He didn’t just extend his arm to support her when she went into a stretched-out line – he leaned with her, connected to her, and made it look like his movement was an extension of hers. Hines’ hip action also felt a bit flat to me – but then again, I don’t feel like there have been very many contestants, male or female, that ever really nailed the hip action of the rumba. Overall, I don’t blame Hines for a giving a ho-hum rumba last night – I mainly blame the music and to some degree Kym for giving him choreography that didn’t really engage him as much as dances like the samba, cha-cha, quickstep, and paso doble did. But I do still think he was overscored – especially when you compare his rumba to Evan’s in season 10, which received the same score and was of a much higher level of both difficulty & performance.
Heidi, you’re a real star – thanks for doing the numbers for us when you’re traveling. Maybe by the time you get home to do the cheesecake awards, “American Night”–mare will seem very funny.
I’m so worried for Petra. So back I go to my 100 little dance gods shrine to sprinkle some more sequins and petition them, yet again, to send Kendra packing tonight.
I know this is supposed to be a crunching numbers post but I laughed outloud. Craptastic is right, baby! Oy! Ralph should get a pass this week because they were handed a cow pie by the producers, if you want the country terminology.
Cidra, I love it… “American Night”mare!
Thanks for posting, Heidi.
I agree, the judging last night was awful!!!
I really hope Ralph is safe, I just love him.:)
Do you think TPTB are not being “nice” to Ralph because of Karina and PB? I can see them eliminated tonight in a shocking elimination.
BTW, DWTSGossip hinted about a showmance between Hines and Kym few days ago. Today E! and Lacey also hinted that Hines and Kym were giddy and flirty. Better keep an eye on them.
I sense a tense night ahead!
Heidi, thank you! I appreciate your “Numbers” posts because it gives me some idea of what’s actually going on scoring/vote-wise. Mind you, after last night I wonder that they just don’t throw all the names into a hat and pick one out for heaven’s sake.
Ralph just might be ‘in jeopardy’ tonight, for suspense to keep everyone tuned in, especially after the disastrous Monday night show. Ralph will be safe, im sure. Hes one of my favorites, but he needs some clean dancing.
Romeo should get the encore. He has impressed me, he is working hard and the last two weeks he has improved. He is doing well right now.
I hope Kendra leaves tonight, but honestly, as sweet as Petra is, she is not leaving a lasting impression. So I dont think she has much more time on the show.
Kirstie is one of my favorites, BUT Kirstie and Maks were just okay, technically the weakest of the night, and the props (shirtless Maks and Dr. Dance) were distractions, (lovely distractions I must say), and sure she is entertaining. It just seems every week there is something that draws your attention away from the technical aspect of her dancing.
Competition is getting tighter, sooner or later, we are going to have see some improvement in her dancing, the entertainment is great, this is week 5, and so far, she has not improved. The others are catching up or has passed her now. Sometimes it seems she is not taking the competition as seriouly as some of the others. jmo
Courtney, I agree that maybe it was Kym’s choreography though, not something Hines should go home for. I haven’t seen alot of male celebs do turns and things, so thats what I was just pointing out is all. I actually enjoyed it and even had a non fan of his tell me they liked it as well. I think the music made it hard, I mean who can dance sexy to that, know what I mean?
Pleaseeeeee let it be Kendra going home. I like D’mitry but I think its him and Petra because at this point it comes down to fan votes and Kendra has alot with PB and all!!! Although look at Holly, lol.
Oh oh, I don’t like the looks of this!
Who are the people who received the MOST VIEWER VOTES?
If we knew that, Jazz, it would make predicting who got eliminated a piece of cake.
