Pure DWTS 12 – Hanson, The Backstreet Boys, New Kids On The Block, and Pia Toscano To Perform On Dancing With The Stars
The excitement begins for next week already! It’s a “Guilty Pleasures” theme and on tap to perform are The Backstreet Boys, New Kids On The Block, and Pia Toscano. Details below from The Examiner.
There will be some serious talent on the dancing stage next week when New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) and Backstreet Boys (BSB) come to Dancing with the Stars to perform. The hosts of Dancing with the Stars took a moment at the end of Tuesday’s show to share some serious news that two of the hottest groups on tour would be gracing the stage.
The entertainment for the show doesn’t seem to run dry as week after week celebrities that America is familiar with grace the Dancing with the Stars stage for a knock out entertaining moment. Keeping the show exciting and always topical, the groups NKOTB and BSB will definitely have fans tuning in.
Advertisement In addition to the two hot groups, Pia Toscano, the eliminated American Idol contestant from two weeks ago will be performing. This is definitely one time the show executives don’t want to be asking if the public would rather see NKOTB and BSB or Pia Toscano as the answer would be very obvious.
Another Examiner article is reporting Hanson will be performing as well.
The announcement of the band hadn’t been officially shared by anyone from the show until the warm up comedian posted on his fan stream the lineup for next week. Cory Almeida who interacts with the crowd and is a comedian for Dancing with the Stars as well as American Idol posted online the upcoming guests including the surprise. Everyone is excited, even the Hanson fans.
According to People, Mark and Karina will be dancing to Pia’s performance.
“I can’t tell you the song, but it will probably be something slow and romantic,” said Ballas, who will be dancing with fellow pro Karina Smirnoff while Toscano sings.
The performance comes on a wave of rumors that the Idol finalist and Dancing pro are dating. The two were most recently spotted together this past Monday, when Toscano attended Ballas’s concert at The Mint in Los Angeles.
While Ballas will not be joining her at the mic next week, the performance is still something he says he is “looking forward to.”
“Pia … will be amazing,” Ballas said. “She is a ridiculously amazing vocalist.”
I’m excited on this entertainment and theme and I am hoping someone will dance to KC & The Sunshine Band.

This is a theme I can support lol. So many songs to choose from. The producers shhould use this time to get one of the boybanders for next season (anyone would do……..joey mcentyre could probably help this endeavor too). Pia singing is a great idea. This should shoe peopkle that she is probably going to bigger than whomever wins idol. Her and Mark make a cute couple. Maybe they can get her for next season too.
Vin, I love your idea of getting more boybanders to dance!! That would be fun! As for Pia, I wish I could say I was a fan. I’m finding her to be annoying in the same way Mark is.
I actually think she can be annoying sometimes but as soon as she starts to sing I tend to ignore her annoying aspects lol. Her voice is amazing. Out of all the boybanders I hope anyone from the BSB does the show. Nick would probably be game since he has nothing going on career wise besides the reunion lol.
@vin dont know if you know but New Kids and BSB are getting ready to launch a joint tour and the show will most likely feature the song they have recorded together. In fact BSB just finished their This is Us tour and Nick has released another solo album outside the US and hit Itune this May. Just so you know they havent been broken up….check your facts. Yes there is only four in the group so that would free up Kevin to do the show but since he has tought ballroom dance before i dont think he would be eligible.
I never said they boke up. I knew thwy had a new song w the NKOTB and about nick’s album. All I meant was he isn’t as popular as he used to be.
lol…not in the US anyways but honestly I dont think any of them would do it. Brian has actually be asked before and he turned it down.
Pia (I don’t know who she is… gonna search on YT, but you all say she’s good) and NKOTB “feat” BSB and perhaps Hanson on result show… will be good result show.
BUT, I still not buying this “guilty pleasure” week… =/ hope I’m wrong…
Pia has a lovely voice, I just wish she had the personality to match it. Then, I think, she’d be The Next Big Thing.
I find myself getting more and more pumped for “guilty pleasures” week
I’m a huge boy band fan (they were at the height of their heydey during my teen years) and I’m also a fan of 80s-era “guilty pleasure” songs – and there is PLENTY of those to choose from. And really – I think we can only move uphill from the disaster that was “American Night”!
Pia has a great voice but the personality of a wet mop. And I find it funny that almost immediately after she was booted from Idol (literally, like 2 days later), suddenly she was dating Mark – and by “pure coincidence”, a TMZ reporter happened to show up at the exact place & time of their first date. Hmmmm. Add to that the fact that 2 years ago around this time, Mark was dating another Idol castoff (Joanna Pacitti) and the whole situation just starts to feel a little too familiar.
I’m wondering if Kirstie may have had something to do with getting NKOTB (and by extension, BSB) to perform on the show – she’s bff with Jonathan Knight, and he’s been to several of the shows this season. Then again, maybe they all were just looking to generate buzz for their tour, and would have done the show anyway…but I love that Kirstie is so close with Jon
Pia is overrated and so boring, America voted her off. So I dont get it, now its Pia everywhere. Im sick of her and Im sick of Mark.
I also read today, to look for Pia on DWTS next season. Geez, could it get any worse.
But I loved the boy bands, so im cool with that. As far as Pia, well thank goodness for DVRs.
I don’t see how Pia could qualify to be on the show next year? She’s not even a “Star”? But, some of the people doing this show love to “make” people into stars. IE: Bristol Palin. Uggh
I wouldn’t worry about Pia doing the show next season – there always seem to be rumors floating around about musical guests possibly returning as contestants in subsequent seasons, and it’s never true. The only celeb that was a musical guest on the show before returning as a contestant was Nicole Scherzinger. Plus Pia just got a recording contract, so I’d imagine she’s be a bit tied up with her music career to do the show. I’m willing to bet that rumor was started by some renegade Pia fans hoping to generate some hype
I grew up loving the Backstreet Boys! And Hanson was my first concert.
I don’t get all the attention Mark and Pia are getting for going on a date. I’ve probably heard about this from every form of media I pay attention to. They’re both young and single, is it that surprising?
I squealed like a ten year old girl when I heard NKOTBSB were performing. I’m not really a fan of NKOTB, but I love the Backstreet Boys! Getting excited! Supposedly Lacey is choreographing the NKOTBSB number (per her Twitter), I hope it’s good!
@Kelsey – 2 young Hollywood 20-somethings going on a date? Not surprising. But take into account that it happened so suddenly after Pia got booted off Idol, TMZ has been suspiciously on top of their every move, Pia is now performing on DWTS, and she’s not the first Idol castoff he’s dated, and it just starts to look a little fishy. If these two are genuinely attracted to each other & happy, then more power to them…but on the surface, it just kinda seems like an attempt by both of them to further their careers.
Don’t forget that Pia broke up with her boyfriend of 4 years after she was off Idol.
And about her being on next season, Ryan Seacrest had her call his radio show today to ask about her singing next week, and he asked about the possibility of her being a contestant. After the call ended, his co-host was insisting that she (Pia) would probably be on, and Ryan mumbled something about her AI contract that wouldn’t allow it….
But that brings up the question… If she can’t dance next season because of that contract, why is she allowed to sing next week?
Courtney, it’s definitely fishy. A host on a radio show I was listening to was reporting the story, and mentioned that Mark had skipped his video shoot to actually go on the date, and was putting aside all this work despite him having an album coming out that week. I don’t think that’s the truth, as Mark was tweeting about being on set for his new video, so it seemed like an odd attempt to bring attention to his music.
Pia seems lovely, but I guess I just didn’t realize that the general public were THAT interested in what she or Mark were up to.
She’s contracted to American Idol as a singer, I would assume. And singing one number on DWTS is good publicity for her. It’s not the same as being a cast member – dancing – week after week.
And honestly? Is it the public or the media themselves that are interested in this Mark/Pia thing?
Fun fact Mark was at Idol Wednesday night with his dad and Ryan completely put him on the spot by asking who his favorite was…haha.
@Courtney: Great point about Kirstie possibly having something to do with NKOTBSB being on the show but dont forget Joey was on the first season and Nick’s brother Aaron was on the show too so many ties to the show and probably one hell of a promotion/management team
Well, DWTS won’t let her dance because she’s on another network. This was confirmed by Michelle Stafford who is on The Young and the Restless – and she was in the DWTS audience week 4. She said in a magazine that she desperately wants to be on DWTS (and I love her, she’s cool) but they won’t let her because she’s on a CBS soap, not ABC. So, we had always heard whispers that if you were on one of the big 4 that ISN’T ABC, you were out of luck – Michelle said it out loud. But I think singing one song is a different story all together.
And Mark and Pia’s “relationship” gets even more fishy when you consider that both of them had dinner the other night with Harvey Levin of TMZ. Yeah, that’s normal.
Personally, I think SOMEONE (and I don’t actually know if it’s Mark and/or Pia) is certainly trying very hard to generate interest in the two of them. It’s very overt, if you pay attention to all the media and then catch the tweets from others that include pics of them with Harvey, etc.
Oh, yeah, Mark was really on the spot. No, not really at all.
He watches Idol, he knows that everyone “famous” in the audience is going to get camera time. They always do.
I agree that there does seem to be some less than genuine aspects to this whole Pia/Mark thing. I never watch Idol, so I didn’t know who she was until TMZ was reporting on the date – and they seemed to be very knowledgeable, much more than they should be. That being said, this shit happens all the time in Hollywood so it doesn’t bother me. I can’t even begin to count the number of girls that Jake Gyllenhaal has dated at very opportune times (and I love him to death). It’s a game that many celebs buy into, although I think that as the public’s awareness of these manufactured relationships grows, so will the eventual backlash by the fans. Of course, there’s still tons of people that buy into the bullshit, so I don’t think it’ll be done away with anytime soon
Hanson, Back Street Boys and New Kids on The Block called “Serious Talent”, Yeah like 15 years ago.
These are called boy bands. How about having the Go-Gos, Bananarama and the Bangles next week.
@PC – They may not be “serious talent” to you, but I don’t think you can discount their impact on the music scene during the mid-to-late 90′s – and I dare say a good portion of them were much more talented vocalists than some of the warblers I hear on the radio today. Some might scoff at your choices of the Go-Gos, Bananarama, and the Bangles, and call them “girl bands”.
@PC: Where have you been? Hanson is still putting out albums and have been for the past 15 years. They also have been doing tours every year to sold out audiences and have been on E! news everytime they have a new music video out. They are NOT a boy band, oh and their music is awesome! I will definitely be watching!
Courtney, you took the words right out of my mouth except for the following:
PC, I take it you are a kid of the ’80s.
Well Courtney and I are obviously ’90s generation and I hope Courtney agrees with me in saying that the ’90s is very looked down upon and we don’t get enough credit! The music scene was BOOMING in the ’90s to early ’00s. Just because they were “Pop” artists doesn’t make any difference. Talent is talent (except in Justin Timberlake’s case, OOH! Yeah I went there) LOL.
