DWTS Season 12, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers
Well. Overall, I was underwhelmed. Loved Romeo and Ralph, for different reasons. Still love Hines and Kirstie. But this Derek fan is missing him terribly. I don’t need to list the numerous reasons why. :::sigh:::
Poor Chris and Cheryl – he was too much in his head and it showed in his dancing. And, as I believe I mentioned in last week, in the comments if not in the post itself – NO ONE can afford to have an off night. You have an off night this season and you can pretty much count on going home unless your name is Ralph, Kirstie or Hines. I just think those three are the vote getters – I could be wrong, of course.
Anyway, on with the scores…
The Judges Scores and Percentages
| Place | Celebrity | Score | Percentage |
| 1. | Romeo | 28 | 15.56 |
| 2. | Chelsea | 28 | 15.56 |
| 3. | Hines | 27 | 15.00 |
| 4. | Kirstie | 26 | 14.44 |
| 5. | Kendra | 25 | 13.89 |
| 6. | Ralph | 24 | 13.33 |
| 7. | Chris | 22 | 12.22 |
So, what does Chris have to do to stick around?? Well, he’s going to have to rely VERY heavily on his and Cheryl’s fans this week. His saving grace is Cheryl Burke in that she is probably the most popular female pro on the show. Has Chris formed enough of a voting fanbase out of DWTS regular viewers to stick around? I’m very sad to say that I kind of doubt it. Here’s what he needs to have happen to stick around:
- He needs 11,120 more votes per Million votes cast than Ralph, OR;
- He needs 16,700 more votes per Million votes cast than Kendra, OR;
- He needs 22,250 more votes per Million votes cast than Kirstie, and I could go on but I won’t.
The ONLY one I see him reasonably beating is Kendra and I just don’t know that his and Cheryl’s fanbase is that much bigger than Kendra’s. I hope like hell I’m wrong. I really think after the fall that Ralph is safe (and was probably safe before the fall) and I also think that Kirstie and Maks are very well liked. So, what happens if Chris does MUCH better in the votes that I’m thinking he might? Well, next in danger is my sweetie, Ralph.
If we take Chris out of the equation and say he gets plenty of votes, what does Ralph need??
- Ralph needs only 5,600 more votes per Million votes cast than Kendra, OR;
- Ralph needs 11,120 more votes per Million votes cast than Kirstie, OR;
- Ralph needs 16,700 more votes per Million votes cast than Hines, OR;
- Ralph needs 22,250 more votes per Million votes cast than either Chelsea or Romeo.
I can see Ralph getting that many more votes than Kendra, easily, but the rest of them? Not sure. Not sure that it even matters, since I think it’s pretty much down to Kendra and Chris tonight, with Chris going home. I hope I’m wrong.
For Ralph to go HOME and Kendra and Chris to both stay, it would mean that Chris got 11,120 more votes per million cast than him and Kendra got more votes than him, period, since she has a higher judges score than him. It would mean that he didn’t have the 5,600 more votes than her that he needed. I don’t see that, which is why I think it’s down to Kendra and Chris. Follow?
Let’s say I’m hugely wrong, and we’re in shocking elimination territory – it is the magical week 6, after all. Or is that cursed?
Who are the most likely “shocking elimination” people?? Well, since they are two of the people who came into this thing with smaller VOTING fanbases, I would have to say Chelsea and Romeo. I think Hines likely has a massive fanbase, as do Kirstie and Ralph – again, these are assumptions on my part and you know what happens when you assume. Anyway, I think Chelsea and Romeo are the two celebs who are the largest candidates for “shocking eliminations”. So, if either one were to be eliminated tonight, ALL of the following would have to happen:
- It would mean that Chris got 33,350 more votes per million votes cast than the one going home, AND;
- It would mean that Ralph got 22,250 more votes per million votes cast than the one going home, AND;
- It would mean that Kendra got 16,700 more votes per million votes cast than the one going home, AND;
- It would mean that Kirstie got 11,150 more votes per million votes cast than the one going home, AND;
- It would mean that Hines got 5,600 more votes per million votes cast than the one going home, AND;
- It would mean that the person at the top of the leader board STAYING got ONE more vote than the one going home.
Yeah. I don’t see it happening either. Again, I could be wrong, but that’s a lot of votes. If it happens to one, it’s more likely Romeo… but then, he’s been doing really well, so maybe not. Hines is only one point off Chelsea and Romeo and is arguably more popular, so I don’t see that happening either.
And here’s a problem I see happening for the next couple weeks; someone who doesn’t have a huge voting fanbase coming into this show (Chelsea, Romeo, Kendra, Chris) has an off night and they go home. I am thinking that the Ralph/Kirstie/Hines fans are greater in number and therefore PROBABLY counter any lower scores from the judges. SO, if you are one of those other couples and DON’T happen to score at the top of the leader board? Bye Bye. And this is what I think will happen to Chris tonight. It could be Kendra, but I’m thinking Chris. Very sadly. What happens if, after tonight, everyone does very well?? HA! I don’t see it – this season has been too wacky. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Sorry, Chris – I will miss you and your darling fake British accent.

Thanks for the insight. I hadn’t voted yet this season – but cast my 7 for Chris & Cheryl, although based on the choreography of that dance, Cheryl may want to go home….
I gave all of my votes to Chris & Cheryl too…I think he deserves to stay based on his progress so far this season. But the numbers Heidi ran kinda speak for themselves – it’s going to be quite a feat if Chris manages to stick around this week. If he does, I’m not sure he’s last through the next week or two – he’s got some tough dances to tackle…samba, jive, waltz, & foxtrot. I guess I’m just trying to console myself with the fact that he was probably going to go home soon anyway, whether it be this week or next week. He’s had a good ride, but there are just other dancers this season that seem to be improving more quickly. Although I do find it odd that he’s been the last one called “safe” on results show night TWICE this season, including last week. Could it work in his favor to drum up votes?
As for Cheryl’s choreo – tango seems to have become her Achilles heel in recent seasons. She kinda has a tendency to dance around her partner, rather than have them dance with her. Sucks.
Great numbers post as always Heidi! I have a bad feeling it’s Chris too. I asked my boss today and she said she thinks Chris is going home too. Same with a friend at facebook. Oh, my poor Dad if this happens. You know how much he loves Cheryl. PLEASE LET IT BE KENDRA TO GO!!!
Oh…and if there is a shocking elimination, I hope it’s MARK and CHELSEA!!
Thanks again for the post, Heidi! I have no clue how you do it, and I’m never sure I completely understand, but it sure helps me out, on some level, to see the overall picture.
I really don’t want to see Chris go home before Kendra. I don’t want to see ANY of them go home before Kendra. I think she is amongst the least appealing people EVER to be on DWTS. Her attitude is maybe only a step or two up from Master P.
You know, I think back to Pam Anderson. She owned the whole big boobs, sex-pot, stripper type thing, unlike Kendra who seems to be almost ashamed of her past? I have no problem with Playboy girls etc… just… you know, if you’re gonna do it, own it! Don’t make it shameful by your own damned attitude about it.
Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox now. Kendra just irritates me SO much, I tend to get carried away. *LOL*
Anyway, again, THANK YOU, Heidi!!
Thanks Heidi! Love Dancing by the Numbers! Hate what they’re telling me this time though!
After this week’s dances I find myself wanting to fill my third imaginary finale spot with Romeo (Hines and Ralph are a given). He has stepped up from Kirstie, Chris and Chelsea in my book.
Think Kendra will get the encore. I’m very worried about Daniel-san. Now DialIdol – I know, I know – predicts he’s gonna be safe, and Chris is the last… but don’t know.
Thanks, Heidi. I ran the numbers last night to see what Chris was up against. Since I’d never tried it before I hoped I was doing it wrong. Unfortunately, I got the same numbers. Rats!
@Evaine, I totally agree with you and since you’re not using the soap box anymore, I’ll get on it. There’s nothing wrong with someone choosing to use their body to make a living (athletes and models do). However, getting defensive about it and acting insulted when people mention your career and body is hypocritical and a major turn off. Kendra, if you were worried about what “others would think/say”, you shouldn’t have stepped up to the pole or into the Playboy Mansion.
It seems like most people felt like something was off with Chris and Cheryl’s performance, and that the judges were a bit unreasonably harsh. I wonder if that helped them get more votes than usual. It’s hard to see them staying with those scores though.
Every week I think it’s going to be Kendra going home, and every week I’m wrong.
Carlos, buddy, you’re KILLING me with this Dial Idol nonsense…you just shouldn’t trust what it says, period, whether it’s good or bad. You know how many states actually had people in it that used Dial Idol last night? Only 8…out of 50. All in the Midwest & east coast. None from the west coast. And the greatest amount of votes from any single state was 70-something. Compared to the MILLIONS of votes that get called, texted, & submitted online – that may as well be nothing. Ignore Dial Idol & just vote as hard as you can every week…because honestly, my cat crapping on a piece of posterboard with all the contestants names on it is probably more accurate than that silly site
Henceforth, I am declaring that site name a dirty word here at PureDWTS
Unless you are saying it’s name in the context of condemning it (“Dial Idol is soooo stupid!”), it is forbidden. Mmmkay?
Are Kym and Hines doing the Jive next week? That’s one of Kym’s best dance styles, imo. And when are they doing the Argentine Tangos this season? A girl’s gotta plan her schedule!
Yer welcome, Evaine.
The Dancing by the Numbers deal started with the whole concept of a “shocking elimination” – I would always be like, “Damn, that ain’t shocking, do the damn math people”. Combine that with people giving some dancers far more credit for votes than they could ever deserve…well, you know I like a good argument.
Dude (Courtney), I’m a numbers girl and do you KNOW what it does to me every time someone mentions Dial Idol?? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PEOPLE!!!!! Just stop already.
I’m so sad to see Chris go… what a class act.
You are usually right, heidi but so hoped you were wrong. I will miss Chris. Class act! I know the sound was off but “I Want it that way” is one of my guilty pleasures and so are NKOTB so I loved seeing them tonight. Does anyone know if that guest fourth judge is Shirley next week? I don’t know. It just seems like too big of a conflict of interest. Tom is the best reality show host so I hope him playing the showmance with Mark and Pia was more pushed by the producers.
Maksim just twitted one thing and I think it’s a tip:
PLUMB – “In My Arms” ummm……so many thoughts in my head, they keep me awake…. Tell me what it makes YOU think?
Guess he’s trying to say that he and Kirstie are going to dance a team chacha (or their solo dance) to “In my arms” by Kylie Minogue
LOL sorry Courtney and Heidi… I was nervous with the possibility to see Daniel-san goes… ahahahahah
Just as we are banishing the word DIALIDOL from the PureDWTS kingdom, can we also banish the name PIA from our PureDWTS kingdom as well? Especially if the name Mark Ballas is attached with it. Begone and never return….LOL
LOL, @Sandy…. Funny I should read your comment now… I was coming here to give a link to Vogue/Heidi/Courtney about Idol/DWTS and crossing the hallways between the two. Pia IS mentioned, along with Mark, but there’s more. It was interesting…

I was kind of sad to see cheryl go home:( I guess now i’m cheering for chelsea and romeo! haha… Kirstie and Maks aren’t bad either….. haha
I think Mark and Chelea really have done good at some dances, but now I’m not really feeling that great about them. They’re party in the usa dance wasn’t bad I thought.. KENDRA NEEDS TO GO!
Thanks for that link, Lori! It was an interesting article.
From Kym’s blog they are doing Tango next. And from Louis Twitter Kendra is doing Tango as well. From Red Carpet post interviews with George, Romeo is doing Samba, Chelsea is doing Paso.
LOL, @LORI—Okay just this once….
