Dancing With The Stars 12, Semi-Finals – Saying Good-Bye To Ralph Macchio (Video Roundup)
And so we say another good-bye to another great contestant and total class act on Dancing With The Stars. From the beginning when first hearing about Ralph Macchio signing up to do the show, we were excited. Like so many of you, memories from one of my favorite movies from the 1980’s came flooding back. Just like back then, Ralph’s fighting, fun, creative, and irresistable personality was fun to watch ….except this time, it was reconnecting to it on the dance floor. Ralph may not have made it to the Finals, but, I think it’s safe to say he was a total “winner” in all of our eyes just like in the days when he was The Karate Kid aka Danielsan!! So, below are some videos from Good Morning America, On The Red Carpet, and Access Hollywood of him and Karina talking about their journey from the beginning to the end…and yes, some defending words on how they felt after some of the ‘over the top’ criticism from the judges. But, overall, they aren’t letting it ruin their experience. Ralph is totally thankful.
I hope this isn’t the last we hear from Ralph!! It was a pure delight to see him again. TV and Movie producers are you LISTENING??
Really sad to see him go, but I thought they handled their departure with alot of class. Wax on Danielsan!!
Not to get off topic, but can someone help me with how next week will work. My CRS is acting up ..please help.
As always, Ralph made the best of a bad situation. He is a class act and it is so heartwarming to see him rise above all of this crap and say he respects Karina, he treasures their time together, and that the fans pulled them through week after week. He has no regrets and his fans shouldn’t either. He gave it his all and it was a great ride. Best of luck to the finalists! In my book, Ralph and Karina have won more than the mirror ball, they have won the love and respect of millions of people! We love you Ralph!!!!
Wow! Karina has some balls! Instead of going with the safe “everyone is great and everyone has a fair shot” comment, she called Heinz the judges’ favorites in the GMA interview. Which, I would think, is uncharacteristic of the pro dancers. It’s kind of like biting the hand that feeds you. But I guess it just goes to show she thought the judges were being unfair as well. Good for her!
It’s rare to see Hollywood actors behave with this sort of grace and integrity. I will miss watching Ralph on DWTS and I also hope television producers out there have taken note of how popular he still is. On a side note, I think he would be great on Modern Family, perhaps as Phil’s brother–“Uncle Ralph”! One can dream I suppose.
Thanks DWTS staff for all the hard work and great writing. As noted, Ralph achieved the intended gain from appearing. Let’s see where it leads. Here’s an interesting take on last night:

Eh, I saw her comment Angela and it was no worse – in fact MUCH lighter – than anything Louis, Maks or Mark have said in the not too distant past. She said it pretty matter of factly, while the boys seemed pretty damn bitter with their past comments. I don’t know that I agree with her – I think they clearly showed favoritism toward Chelsea this week. Kinda like they had heard she was near the bottom in vote getters and they should stop with their games of being harder on the better dancers.
Im so glad that Ralph graced our televisions this season. He has been entertaining, gracious, kind of quirky, and a down right cutie-pie. I Also enjoyed seeing another side of Karina this season as well. Ralphs career will take off now and I can guarantee we have not seen the last of Daniel-san!! Great Job Ralph and Thank You.
No one else has said it so I must:
“Stay gold, Mr. Macchio. Stay gold.”
So on Monday its the freestyle and redemption, then on Tuesday its their favorite and another dance. Am I right?
So sad that Ralph didn’t make it to the finals. Was looking forward to a Chelsea, Hines and Ralph showdown. The judges know who they want to see win, and it’s not the 3 I mention above.
I’m SO upset Ralph got eliminated. He was by far my favorite, and I thought he deserved to be in te finals. Was so looking forward to seeing his freestyle. I’m especially upest about the WAY the elimination happened: pure manipulation and rudeness
Anyway, Ralph was a real class act from day one. He was a totally sweetheart, a hardworker, humble, rarely complained, and was totally adorable. I love how much respect and support he gave Karina. I loved watching them, both on the dance floor and in the behind the sceens segments. I’m so glad I got to know him, and got to see a different side of Karina. I’m REALLY going to miss seeing them each week. I hope Ralph will land a role in a TV show soon. In my eyes, Ralph and Karina are the true champions of season 12.
Ralph is a class act in every way! Loved his commitment to the show and his respect for and friendship with Karina. Hope this exposure leads to many opportunities for him. He deserves the best!
So glad Karina had such a wonderful, talented partner. Gave us a chance to see her at her best.
I don’t think Karina is “biting the hand that feeds” her at all! The judges did not create this show, nor do they produce it. They are employees of the show as much as Karina is. In fact, I think the producers are glad there is tension between judges and pros. It makes for more interesting television. Bruno should be the one worried. In any other environment, he would have been dismissed for that comment! Aren’t people getting tired of Bruno’s old antics anyways. He is way past his expiration date!
I know it’s a tough statement when Ralph has been so nice this season and when these two were such a harmonious couple but I felt like Karina let him down a little bit in the end. He is such a committed guy he would never ever doubt any decision coming from her but her choreography choices were a bit questionable IMO.
Ralph strength was evident week 1. He is incomparable in playing the old school glamor quick and nimble dancer and therefor suited for classy pieces. Now I know the judges kept insisting on sexy but it wasn’t the judges who carried them through it was the audience and Karina should have gone with a more mature choreography to please Ralph’s demographic.
I feel like she sometimes has moments of brilliance but mostly has trouble choreographing more mature emotions (Kym is really good at this). I actually enjoyed their pimped out salsa but it was definitely more suited for the freestyle round. Their AT was solid in the steps but Ralph didn’t convey the smouldering character. I think they would have fared better if she kept his lovable dorkiness and somehow worked with it rather then against it.
# sasa Thoughtful comments. Excepting the first year, the MBT has been shared by five pros I believe. In addition to obvious producer pairings, there’s a reason. It will be interesting to see if Cheryl can pull back up to higher finishes.
Yeah Cheryl kinda lost her mojo. I think she peeked with Gilles and then no one was good enough after him. I don’t mean it in a bad way, it’s always difficult to step back and readjust.
The thing I love about this this show is that the pros, much like in life, have to be so many different things- creative yet consistent, confident yet adaptable, passionate yet patient… It’s not an easy job if you do it right and yes, some are better at it than others. I think that who you’re paired with as a celebrity makes all the difference.
Karina had some fabulous cheorography at times. The Romeo and Juliet dance was breathtaking and I think this year with Ralph, Karina was able to gain some new fans. So thats great. And the pairing of Ralph and Karina was perfect. I will miss him.
Speaking of mojo and partners, Louis with Kelly was a perfect pairing, these two brought out the best in each other. What a surprise Kelly was, but unfortunately its been downhill for Louis ever since. The right pairing is the key here.
