Dancing With The Stars 12 – Kym Johnson Covers Esquire Magazine

Esquire Magazine is spotlighting Kym this month with a new photospread. One of the photos can be seen above (I have a feeling John is going to love this shoot. πŸ™‚ ). They also interview Kym on the show and it’s dynamics. Read a take below. You can read more at the link as well as viewing more photos.

ESQ: So wait: Does the public get to decide? Or is it up to that crazy judge I always see kind of half-screaming and half-singing on The Soup?

KJ: It’s half-and-half β€” half the judge’s scores and half the fans. And then it’s week-by-week, so we actually have another dance to do tonight. We’ll see what happens with the judge’s scores, but the vote’s already in from the audience. At the moment there’s a winner of the show, but it could change tonight.

ESQ: And I imagine you have some moves up those ridiculous sleeves on your costume.

KJ: Everyone gets to do a favorite dance of the season, so we’ve chosen the samba. Hines really likes the dance, and we like the song. We did it in Week Three β€” a personal-story week β€” because it’s his mom’s favorite song. It’s an uplifting song.

ESQ: But, speaking of lifting, I heard you’re injured?

KJ: Naturally I’ve had a few injuries, but this season’s was really the scariest injury that I’ve ever encountered β€” falling on my neck. I’m very lucky to have escaped with what I did. I kind of fell just the right way to miss breaking my neck, and these last couple of weeks have been quite crazy with therapy and stuff. I feel like a football player at the moment.

ESQ: Maybe you should switch with Brooke Burke next season. What does she do, exactly? Is she, like, a sideline reporter?
KJ: Brooke is in this room where we have to go to get our judge’s scores. So she’ll ask us how we feel we did, what we think of the judge’s scores, that kind of thing. She’s the nice one.

DWTS12 – ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Finals Costume Recap With Randall Christensen

The costume designer for our show, Randall Christensen, goals for the Finals was “to execute the celebrities’ most personal visions for their make-it or break-it dances” and he succeeded in doing just that….uhhh, well, except for Chelsea and Mark’s freestyle. But, not sure that is Randall’s fault as much as it was Mark’s (in my opinion). More below for how Randall and the dancers came up with their costumes from Stylelist.

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson: Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were the inspiration for the couples’ quickstep look, which included a classic top hat, tuxedo and tails for the Pittsburgh Steelers pro. Johnson’s sublime gown featured white sheer mesh encrusted with 12,000 crystals and hand-dyed-and-cut guipure lace appliquΓ© work. For a contemporary twist, its sheer skirt was fringed with horsehair braid.

For their freestyle performance, Ward lived out his marching band fantasy in custom-made drum major regalia. Christensen’s team used velcro and gussets at the armpits to give Ward tear-away sleeves to crank up his dance moves. Meanwhile, custom costumes for the musicians that joined the couple on stage were ordered from Texas in Steelers’ black and gold and arrived “in the nick of time.” Johnson’s majorette “boots” were actually spandex spats slipped over her Latin dance shoes for ease of movement. Her gold fringe minidress was a sexy take on the majorette/cheerleader look.

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas: Since she first slipped on Christensen’s fringe party in the U.S.A. pants during Patriot’s Week, the actress has been a fan and requested the style for her samba. For more fun, Christensen added fringe under a row of thousands of hand-beaded crystals on top. “It was tons of work, but hey it’s the finale,” he says. “And I have to admit it. No one wears fringe pants better than Chelsea.”

For their “Tron”-themed freestyle, the couple deviated from classic ballroom style and requested costumes that didn’t exactly match. Kane wore a turquoise bra-top and Ballas a lime-bedazzled suit. “That surprised be a bit since Mark’s suit was such a bright color, but I obliged them because I want to empower each couple and they should have what they want for this very important routine.” The battery operated shoes and gloves were installed by singer Chris Brown’s lighting team and “it was a wiring nightmare with all the lifts and choreography.” While the drama was spectacular the special effects were a fashion challenge: Kane said after the broadcast that one of the battery packs slipped off after her first big move and was dangling during her performance.

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: The actress wore a minidress featuring Carnivale hues of bright orange, yellow and lime green accented with crystal infused fringe for her sexy, sassy samba.

For her freestyle to Pink’s “Perfect,” Christensen deliberately outfitted Alley in a monk-brown dress, which was torn off to reveal a formfitting black unitard that showed off the slimmed-down figure of the actress who has lost 60-plus pounds in the ballroom. The designer’s fashion message? “Hello world, here is the new Kirstie, hot and fabulous.”

“Kirstie has been transforming right before our eyes and what an eye-popping end to such a glorious journey. And that was all Kirstie with just a bodysuit and her magnificently toned body.”

So, who had your favorite and least favorite costumes this week? Kym and Hines were my favorite and I won’t go there again for what I thought of Mark and Chelsea’s. 😯

Pure DWTS 2011 – Tom Bergeron Rates Season 12, Dishes On Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s Return, & Announces Date For Season 13

I can’t embed this video or audio, but, Tom Bergeron was interviewed by Popwatch in his dressing room after the show Tuesday night (his dressing room is cool). In the audio, Tom talks about the Mirror Ball Trophy and the season as a whole. Overall, Tom was happy with Season 12 and how it had some of the highest ratings compared to other Seasons. He gave it an 8 1/2 rating. He dishes about some of the teasing between cast members and how much this cast will miss each other. He also mentions Maks and how he is retiring the pinch he gave Tom every week which alludes to how Maks might not be coming back next Season (please say it isn’t so. πŸ™ ). In the interview, he also mentions how September 19th is the premiere date for Season 13. Mark that date on your Calendars. More in the video and audio >>>>>HERE. Don’t miss it!!

Special thanks to Figamentation for the Popwatch link.xx

Dancing With The Stars 12 – Hines Ward’s Mirror Ball Trophy Means Overcoming His Fear Of The Unknown

We all could learn a lesson about conquering our fears from Hines Ward, couldn’t we? How many of us would rather not face them and stay in a safe zone. I know I have. More below on what his acheivement of winning Dancing With The Stars personally means to him in a take from his new blog at the LA Times.

3. Compare winning the mirror ball trophy, an individual accomplishment, with winning the Super Bowl, a team accomplishment.
I don’t think you can really compare the two. They are equally important to me. They mean different things. Winning the Super Bowl symbolized being the best in my profession. It along with winning the Super Bowl MVP is the ultimate goal both individually and as a team. It says we are good at what we do as professionals. Winning the mirror ball trophy for me symbolizes overcoming my fear of the unknown. It says that I was able to excel at something I knew nothing about. I was able to rise above difficulty and take a risk. Both prove that hard work pays off. Both are special.

4. Other than Kym, what will you miss the most about this experience?
Definitely all the friends I made at the show. I will miss Kym for sure and I will miss all the fun we had, all of us celebs and pro dancers. Doing the show was amazing and I had a blast. I am glad I got the chance to do it and am grateful to my marketing team for getting me the opportunity and to DWTS for giving me the opportunity.

5. Hundreds of thousands of people have been reading your blog here. Any last words for them?
Yes. I want to thank them for all their support and for sticking with me and believing in me. I had never danced before and so this wasn’t easy for me. So thank you for all the love and for voting for Kym and me all these weeks. I love you guys.

DWTS 12 – Mark Ballas On Season 12 Being More Than Just About Dancesteps

Mark says he has “no regrets” in his new blog at USA Today. He also says this season wasn’t just about dance steps. It was about artistry and telling stories that he had so much fun doing with Chelsea. More below including a take about what the show and journey is like. Don’t miss Mark and Chelsea and the other contestants on the Regis and Kelly Show today (Thursday). We’ll try to get some video coverage for you later.

It’s a great feeling to write this to you now, knowing that Chelsea and I went all out to win the mirrorball trophy. Although we didn’t take it home, I am so proud of what we did this season. I look at it this way β€” this season wasn’t just about dance steps, it was about artistry and telling stories, expressing ourselves as artists. We had so much fun performing each week for all of our fans.

BLOG:Behind the scenes with Mark Ballas

I can not put into words how extremely proud I am of Chelsea. Over the past 14 weeks, Chelsea transformed herself into a true dancer. She became, in my opinion, the strongest dancer in the competition, and she didn’t take a misstep all season! It was a great ride and making to the finals was wonderful, but we congratulate Kym and Hines for coming out on top!

A lot of people ask me what a season of Dancing With The Stars is like. My best analogy is that it’s like a roller coaster. A roller coaster that you’re apprehensive about getting on at first because you know the ride will be exhausting emotionally, mentally, and physically, all the while exhilarating and making you feel alive. It twists, turns, speeds up, takes you for a loop, makes you scream, makes you smile. Then, when the ride ends, you don’t want it to be over. You never want it to end, actually. Even though it beats you up, you want to keep going and experiencing the ride, just because you know it’s a moment in your life you’ll never forget.

And this roller coaster ride is coming back in to the stall. I’m writing this to you from the green room of Good Morning America. The six of us (the three final couples) went straight from the show and press line to Burbank Airport, bound for Manhattan. There wasn’t much sleep on the plane. Each of us recounted the season, trying to remember the many hilarious stories of the past 14 weeks. The ups, the downs, the falls, the sprains, the blood, sweat, tears, and all the smiles and touching moments we had.
