Pure DWTS 12 – Rapping, Ranking, Grading, and a Poll On The Dancing With The Stars Judges
Tom Bergeron posted this new video at his twitter of Carrie Ann, Len, and Bruno during their best judging moments of Season 12 to a rap song. I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry watching this?
But, it inspired a new Poll and ranking question which you can view and partake in below and in the comments if interested.
Lastly, if you were to rank Carrie Ann, Len, and Bruno on how well they judged Season 12, how would you rank them in order? You can also “grade” them if you like.
My favorite judge is Len. I love his grumpiness. I also respect how he tries to stick to the traditional rules of ballroom dancing. I think his role as a judge on the show is the most important for this reason.
In ranking and grading the judges this Season, I’d do so like this. (Note: I took a grading point off for how they tried to manipulate and take away our rights to vote at the end even though I suspect producers were involved too.);
1. Len – Grade: B-
2. Carrie Ann – Grade: C
3. Bruno – Grade: C- (I’ve loved him and his dramatic style in the past and sometimes he describes just what I’m feeling after a dance. I can’t imagine the show without him. But, he goes too far in his criticisms when he demeans the contestants!)
I look forward to all of your thoughts!

I have to say that Grumpy Old Len is my favorite, for the reasons Vogue indicated. I disagree with him at times, but you’ll notice, when the pros get a 10 for their celeb from Len, that’s the one that means the most to them – at least that’s what I see.
As for ranking and grading on this past season…
1. Len: B (I really did feel he was unfair to Ralph though.)
2. Bruno: C – (I have to admit, he makes me laugh quite a bit and he seems to ‘get’ the emotional parts of the performances more than the other two, but this season, man, he got carried away with himself far too often – Less is more, Bruno! And he was a little too insultingly off-colour at times. Off-colour I can deal with perfectly fine – it’s when it’s used insultingly I don’t like.)
3. Carrie Ann: D (The woman is ruled by her damned hormones. She was ridiculous so much of this season. I appreciate the sexy as much as anyone does, but my God, give the woman a drool towel, will ya? She really annoyed me this season and gives mature women a bad name.)
All the judges have serious flaws – I don’t see one being any better or worse than the others, CAI included. Len tends to be much harsher on anyone he considers to have an edge, Bruno has just been disgustingly horrible, and CAI has been as well.
My TiVo Premiere has had Netflix, Blockbuster and other services available for streaming. Well, it just added Hulu Plus, of which I am a member. I watched some of Season 7 last night (inglorious HD) and all three judges were MUCH better. All gave some criticism that seemed a bit harsh, but it was ALL very constructive. The difference was striking. I think that they have all decided that they want to be the stars of the show.
I really feel this season was fixed against Kirstie. They never gave her 10′s to keep her judges score low to balance out the over whelming fan favorite votes. She would have won if they had scored them based on their dancing. About mid-season I saw this is what was happening. The same reason they threw in that 15 point deal. I bet u never see such a popular actor/actress in the cast again.
I enjoyed the judges for the most part. But I think it’d be kind of nice to see some new judges, you know, to get different perspectives.
I would grade them:
Len- B-
Carrie Ann- C
Bruno- B
I do like Len the best because he tells the dancers what they need to hear. USUALLY he’s right. I would have rated him higher, but a few of his scores didn’t reflect his “judgements” this season. The one I can remember off the top of my head is Kirstie & Maks’ freestyle. He gave really good comments– they sounded like “10″ comments, but he still gave them a “9″. Okay…
Carrie Ann is okay. I think she may have had some issues with a few contestants. Also, I think she underscored some, too.
Bruno is great. I like his approach– way to keep the enthusiasm.
Honestly, I think they underscored a lot, & overscored even more. Like I said earlier about Len, it’s probably the same for the other two, also. Their comments didn’t always match up with the scores they gave. They were just all over the place, and it felt a lot like they already knew what score they were going to give before they decided the reasoning behind it.
I did enjoy how emotionally invested I got, though. Lol
Yes, Marie, I agree! I noticed that they NEVER gave Kirstie & Maks a perfect score until the very last day. I thought their freestyle was definitely 10 worthy… especially when compared to Chelsea & Marks’. But I believe they knew they must give G-Mak at least one perfect score since they had made it all the way to the finals without one.
Also, on the constructive criticism… I believe that only a tiny bit of what the judges had to say this season was constructive.
I totally agree with you Heidi – the judges are trying way too hard to be entertaining and it just comes off as weird or inappropriate. I wish they would just relax and really *judge*.
I agree with Heidi as well – they’re trying to be stars, and it’s just annoying. For me, the grades would be:
1. Len – D. He had quite the breast fixation this season, didn’t he?
2. CAI – F. Just read Evaine’s post, she said it better than I can.
3. Bruno – F- After Season 11′s Michael Bolton comment, and this season’s comment to Ralph & Karina, it’s time for Bruno to go. The only way he’d add entertainment value for me is if they strapped him into his chair like Hannibal Lecter, and then let him try to talk…
After this season and the way they treated Ralph and Karina, I’d like to see all the judges replaced!
I don’t really hate or love any of the judges, they’re all kind of eh to me. But I definitely like Len the most!
Len: B
I really don’t mind him, and I think he’s the most consistent with his scoring, but sometimes he got really weird, like when he commented on Cheryl’s “rocky mountains”.
Bruno: C-
I thought Bruno was being very rude and weird at some points, but the most sensible of all three at others. I would have given him a C+, except of his comment to Karina&Ralph.
Carrie Ann: C
I really didn’t remember much of Carrie Ann except her crying and overscoring some contestants. So, I gyess I’ll just give her a C.
Len Goodman is tough but he is also very funny….A great blend of both. A must have.
CarrieAnn – Was kind of like a softie this season. Didnt think she was on the lift patrol as much as previous years. She seemed to enjoy herself much more this season. Like her as well.
Bruno – OMG the things he says are sometimes totally inappropriate, but there is something about him that is irreplacable….go figure. And there you have it..
Carrie Ann wasn’t picky this season with the lifts. Bruno can get carried away with his comments but I always look forward to what he has to say. Len is the most consistent but I wish he could be less old fashioned.
I was watching some of the earlier seasons, I think pre-season 5 and I’ve got to say they were giving more constructive criticism. Len was going as far to talk about heel/toe leads. Now it seems like they’re trying to be outrageous for the sake of being outrageous.
Carrie Ann embarrasses me
grades for the judges:
Len- B- He’s mostly fair and he’s the only actual Ballroom/latin judge so I assume(biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig assumtion) that he know’s what he is doing/saying.
Carrie Ann- C+ -Normally fair to the couples but she tends to go a little “lift crazy” and that’s just annoying plus she’s not always right.
Bruno- D+ -He would’ve had a C for this season BUUUUUUUUUUUUT he had to go and make some very innapropriate comments(more than once) and he just didn’t behave himselfso I have to mark him off for that.
I think they were way too rude and judgemental about Ralph and Karina. And also to Chelsea and Mark. While Hines and Kirstie could do no wrong. When Kirstie lost her shoe and another time Max fell on her, they got the same scores as Ralph and K, even though Ralph and Karina had no mishaps. Something’s wrong here. Hines could not dance and those silly yellow steelers rags got annoying. The show’s execs went past the obvious this time. I doubt they will be able to get any star (used to be or otherwise) on the show as easily because why would they want to have some silly judge insult them on top of the hard work they put into it. I think you’re going to be losing some viewers.
I’d like them to keep the same judges, but cut the BS and just have them judge–fairly. Too much munipulation ruins the fun of the show.
Changes I’d like to see:
Fair and consistant judging.
Judges able to backup their scoring with valid feedback.
Bruno and Carrie Anne glued to their seats–at least most of the time and not putting on a show.
Cude and rude comments need to stop. You can say a performance is sexy/ sensual/ etc without being vulgar.
No upgrading the scores for lesser dancers. If the audience wants to keep the lesser dancers in they’ll do it by VOTING.
It’s a pipe dream I know. LOL
