Pure DWTS 2011 – Mark Ballas’ Hopeful Celebrity Contenders For Next Season & More
Mark Ballas talked with MTV Seven over the weekend about Dancing With The Stars. He sums up his journey with Chelsea saying this last Season was about “artistry”. He then talks of who he’d like to see on the show next Season. He mentions Jennifer Aniston and Jim Carrey as being his hopefuls. Mark also talks on his music and how he’d like to work with American Idol stars Casey Abrams and Pia Toscano in the future. Check it out and more below.
Oh Crap, I thought maybe Mark was thinking of taking a year off…..Guess not!! And Pia, blah, blah, blah. Mark is bad enough let alone her name tagging along his name as well. Cant these two just go away.
I think Pia should just go away. She bothers me. And her hair. Eugh.
But Mark is fine :3
I can’t find it in myself to care, or even listen to , what he has to say. I think that he’d be best served by laying low for awhile after his behavior this past season.
But giving a shoutout to Voguerista for all her hard work in tracking down and posting the various new/interviews.
I love Pia but he needs to stop mentioning her. He even mentioned that annoying Casey Abrhams (who I thinnk is just overrated but thats jsut my opinion). Maybe Mark’s old personality will come back lol.
Ahhh, thanks Cori! 😉
Mark was pictured with Pia Toscano when she performed at the Memorial Day concert in Washington D.C. and they were also pictured together in LA on Memorial Day. According to Mark’s twitter, he and Michael Orland, who works with the musicians at American Idol, wrote a song together last week before Mark went to Las Vegas for another birthday party. IMO, Mark should take a season off to “focus on his music” as it appears to be much more important to him than dancing. However, as was mentioned in the search engine summary, Mark craves the attention DWTS gives him and being associated with the show gives him free publicity and another platform to promote the music.
Vin, it’s funny because I never liked Pia, but, I loved Casey! For some reason I can see Mark doing a duet with Pia, but, not Casey. Scary thought. lol
Agree, Voguerista, but Pia and Mark could get a lot of attention by singing a duet. Both Pia and Mark are very popular and have large fan followings, but it is not a bad idea for them to continue this personal/professional relationship. It could have the potential for CHA-CHING, with the right song.
Deena, is Pia’s fan base that large? I guess I never thought of her as being that popular when she got voted off American Idol so early. Though with DWTS and Mark plugging her constantly, she may have a bigger fan base now? Anyway, I guess time will tell and I could be wrong, but, I don’t see a successful music career for either one of them?
Wishful thinking is what comes to my mind as far as Pia is concerned. According to Nigels tweets when she was eliminated she was never a frontrunner. So I really dont know why Mark thinks Pia is such a big star in the music industry. I would think she would be a huge gamble literally. Snoozefest comes to mind. Oh, but wait Mark thinks he is a huge star…….Double snoozefest.
I think that a Mark/Pia duet would be weird since she has such a high range while he really is that good of a singer to be quite honest. A Casey Mark duet would be diasaterous lol Maybe he could do a duet with Kim Kardashian since they were partners on one of the seasons (6 or 5 i beleive). He would look like the better singer there lol.
Jennifer Aniston? Jim Carrey? How many seasons has Mark done of DWTS? Does he not realized that ‘stars’ is a bit of a overstatement of the people that come on the show? ‘Stars’ that have not done a movie of note for 10+ years – yes. Reality/tabloid/horrible cable show ‘stars’ – yup. Aging sitcom/teen dream ‘stars’ – sure. But A-list celebs that are currently on the big screen in major summer movie launches? Probably not…..
I just don’t see a really sucessful music career for Mark. The dude is a a great guitar player and dancer but singer not so much lol. Chelsie Hightower is ab better singer than him (see link)
I love Mark Ballas as much as this site hates him! I believe he will be as successful as he wants to be…maybe not what others have pictured but never the less he will live very well. I personally hated every note Bob Dylan ever sang and can’t see why anyone would waste a cent on his albums. He seems to have done ok without my approval. So I have hopes for Mark. 🙂
@ Kelly: I don’t hate Mark at all. I just think that he can’t sing and has become egotisitcal and should go back to his old personality. Not going to deny that the dude is a great dancer, a great choreographer and has a great way of training celebs on the show but he needs to know a little humbleness goes a long way.
In fact, I think that Mark is probably a good actor for comedies (movies/tv shows/tel;evision movies) since he has such a loud personality.
1st] I absolutely love Mark, but can be objective when it comes to him. That said here I go:
*I do believe that the Mark/Pia relationship is more than just a stunt. Do I think they’ll end up as Mr. and Mrs? Not at all. I like Pia too, but his Idol past isn’t so hot.
*I do have Almost Amy music along with BHB music and both Waiting for Patience and HurtLoveBox. I adore Derek as well and want them both to flourish outside of DWTS, but to be honest, I hope they’ll both realize that Dancing’s what they do best. Both do well with instruments and on the small-screen, but I don’t know many people who genuinely liked “Move” or who will be sleeping outside the theater when Cobu3D is released. That’s just my opinion though.
*Mark and DWTS-Season 11 controversy or no controversy when it came to voting, Mark’s ego did inflate when Bristol made the finals. He went from Bristol who many including myself don’t consider to be a “star” to Chelsea who in my opinion is a likable, up and coming star and she can dance. I was more surprised that he didn’t take this season off since Derek did since he wasn’t sure he even wanted to do the show before they called Derk about it.
Should he take a season off and mellow out some? I think so, but do I expect him to next season? Not at all.
All that said, I’m still a Mark fan and still love this site! 🙂
As to why all the talk about Pia being so great, it’s just that… a bunch of talk by entertainment talking heads and the like who think that Pia is SOOOOOO spectacular. Yeah, she’s got a fabulous voice, but the personality on stage of a wet dishrag. I don’t know many people of the normal ilk… like you and me, folks! … that think Pia is all that. *g*
As for she and Mark having a relationship? Maybe they do, maybe they don’t, maybe they’re just friends, maybe they’re gettin’ it on, who knows… all I know is that it’s keeping both of them in the entertainment news, isn’t it? 🙂
@Melissa- I can see that you are fan of both Mark and Derek’s but if they just stick to dancing and TV, they’ll both not realize their full potential. They are both very talented people and they have other dreams that they want to pursue. If they had just stuck to dancing because they are so good at it, they’d both still be competing in dancesport, IMO. The way that they WILL be successful is for them to have a little bit of luck and for their fans to support them. I for one will be first in line to see Cobu3D and I know many others who are salivating in anticipation to see this movie and these are not just Derek fans. I plan to see that movie like 15 times because I love Derek and it’s going to be in 3D! I know it won’t be a blockbuster, but at least it will show off different sides of Derek and that could lead to many more opportunities for him. If Mark wants to be a professional singer, then he should really go at it and give it the time and energy it deserves. I’m not a Mark fan, but I respect his dream and think he should give it 110%.
@Evaine I agree. Pia has an incredible voice and her stage presence doesn’t exist, but I remember Carrie Underwood being the same way. I think it wasn’t only Pia’s non-existent stage presence that hurt her on Idol, even though I think she’s got a great voice, she came across as snobby on the show.
@Elmari You make great points! 🙂 I know I’ll be in line to see Cobu3D as well and want it to do well because of Derek.
I’m sure that both Mark and Derek will always be grateful for their fans as they’re both great about meeting fans [I’ve met both on a few occasions and they’re wonderful] it’s the selfish part of me that always wants them on DWTS, if that makes any sense.
vin,
Thanks for sharing that video. Loved it. Chelsie’s fantastic.
“This site” is a thing and as such has no feelings whatsoever. The people who write for it and post comments on it DO have feelings and I can guarantee that they aren’t all the same. We don’t have much group think here. But thanks for playing.
As for Derek – he’s already a proven actor, thanks to Footloose and other things on stage in the West End, in the UK. He was nominated for best newcomer, as I recall. He was also awesome on Better With You. All he needs to do on Cobu is do a great job acting and dancing. He’s not carrying a movie, and it’s not expected to be a blockbuster. If the movie fails and Derek does a good job, he moves on to the next role just like other actors. How well it does at the box office won’t affect his career long term. Derek took the SMART path, a proven path for him, and one where he has little control or responsibility for the end result. Mark, on the other hand, took the path where they’ve not had a lot of success – and unfortunately for him, Derek was the better (and more popular) singer in BHB. As long as Derek is a good actor, he will keep getting parts if he wants them. Mark is NOT in a similar position. Most movies fail – but even MORE musicians fail, and when they do it’s all on them and no one else.
So, saying that you wish they would realize they should just do what they’re good at is pretty arrogant – who are you to say what they’re good at or passionate about? From what I’ve seen, that’s what Derek IS doing. Mark? He doesn’t suck, but I won’t run out to the store or iTunes.
Awww, thanks for the Chelsie vid. Love her. “Should we warm up first?.” :)))
I’m wasn’t really a fan of Chelsie but she grew on me this season with Romeo so I am a fan now. I want her to win a trophy soon……hopefully this will happen. I think out of all the pros that don’t have one yet, Tony,Karina, Maks, Chelsie, and Anna T are overdo for one.
Kelly and Melissa, I don’t exactly hate MARK, as much as I hate what I’ve seen in him the last couple of seasons. Is he a good dancer? Yes. Is he a good choreographer? Yes. Is he a good teacher? Yes. Does he show it? Not exactly. Has he in the past? Yes. I hate that this past season, I feel like I didn’t really get to know Chelsea or what her true dance ability could be. I honestly remember more of Mark than his partner. I hate that I didn’t get to see her grow, or what she can truly learn, so that Mark can be “artistic” and stand out on a show where it’s supposed to be the celebrity that shines.
I hate that in The Bristol Season, the thing that kept being repeated is that “it’s about the most improved dancer, not the most talented”, and in The Chelsea Season, it feels like everyone was pushing for “the most talented”.
I would love to see the Mark who started on DWTS in Season 5, and right now, the Mark I’ve seen lately, is anywhere near the same person.
Lori…No one ever stays the same. We are a continuous work in progress. Mark has gone from a 20 year old boy to a 25 year old man. There has been much exposure to other forms of dance through SYTYCD and Burn The Floor. He isn’t the same guy I fell for but he never fails to wow me. He doesn’t over dance or diminish his partners because I don’t let him. I don’t try to squeeze him into some mold that I think is right for him because I am an engineer and I make integrated circuits which has nothing to do with dance. As long as he entertains me I am content to let him live his own life.
I want to see dance on season 13: Hulk Hogan, Brooke Hogan, weird al yankovic, pee wee herman (Paul Reubens),Ray Romano, Michele Obama, bettywhite, cher, dolly parton, Yanni, Shawn White, Doris Roberts, paul mccartney, mick jagger, and the best dancer ever! Ellen DeGeneres.
