I love it when Chelsie and Mark dance together! There is something always so personally magnetic about the two.
Adding: Thanks to Rory, below is a new interview with Mark and Chelsie on Good Day Sacramento. They dish a little on Dancing With The Stars and give some more details on the Capital Fourth show, and more.
Thanks to Melissa, here the two are on The Morning Blend as well.

Thanks for posting about Capital Fourth Vogue! This makes me excited for this weekend. My friend is coming into town and we will be down by the National Mall that day. Can’t wait.
What fun! Quick question though. When did Mark sign with Sony? Or that his songs or album charted? Last I checked, Julianne was the only pro with an album that charted high on billboard. Mark’s solo info is listed as never charting. I also thought his solo project was funded by himself. I admire his ambition even if I do not like his style of music. But it seems like someone embellished a bit on the press release. Or he has amazing publicists, lol.
His publicist is a hard worker, Melissa.
Saying he is “chart-breaking” can be taken in any number of ways. If he entered the top 100 or top 200 – they would SAY so, instead of weird “chart-breaking” type words. Publicists write this crap – Mark fans probably know what the reality is but the rest of us can only guess. As for Sony – probably signed to a very small, Sony-owned label. Honestly, I don’t pay enough attention to Mark to say for sure.
Yay! This will be exciting, thanks for letting us know. I love Chelsie.
To answer some of the question, Mark was signed by Sony Red. I’m not sure of the exact month, but that’s the company.
As for a Capital Fourth, what a great honor for Mark. Chelsie too, I just don’t care for them dancing together. I’d rather see Chelsie dance with Derek or Tony. Both because I think she’s better with them and there’s no drama. When she dances with Mark, shipper hearts get all kinds of ideas that they’re more than good friends.
So what!!! I thought this blog is to promote dwts pros and the good things they do not bash them. Unless you’re Derek ( trying to get famous in Asia) or Maks ( Ukraine’s whore) u get no love here. At least Mark is doing what he loves. Unlike Robot, he doesn’t tweet drunk at least.
WHA Maddy? Do you realize you just bashed Maks and Derek? I see…it’s ok for you not to like some dancers and say what you will, but, you won’t allow others or us to do the same or to have an opinion? We either like Mark and have good things to say or else?? And btw, we DO promote the DWTS pros and the good things they do. But, we also have a right to cover the not so good things, unpopular things too when they come up. And really, where did anyone bash Mark in this post?
Maddy, just go away. You are almost always a complete buzzkill whenever you comment. If you have such a problem with us and the way we post, why the hell do you keep coming back? Do you need attention? Because we don’t pander to attention-seeking children who pick fights. Get your attitude in check or get out.
No Vogue, I’m misdirecting anger
. I have no problem with Derek, Maks, or any pro. I have problem with people who would write anything to diss another pro.
You know what, Maddy? I understand some of where you’re coming from, I truly do. But the way you post puts me off so badly that I can’t be bothered to post any part of my agreement.
Get off your high horse, Maddy. I’ve seen some things you’ve written about other pros here – they weren’t exactly sunshine & rainbows. I get it – you love Mark and you don’t think anyone should be allowed to say anything negative about him. But don’t for a minute pretend that you’re suddenly crusading for the fair treatment of all the pros. I have half a mind to block you right now, the way you come in here trying to pick fights.
Maddy – if you have a problem with what we write and who we write about I’m going to make it very simple for you. GET OUT. Leave and don’t come back. One more attention-seeking, nasty little post like your first one and your time here is UP. And NO, adding a smiley doesn’t change anything – you’re still acting like a spoiled child and doing EXACTLY what you complain about. Cut it out now, or I will do it for you.
Well Maddy, let me remind you that I’m a huge Maks fan and I was asked to help with this site. Evaine is a huge Maks fan as well and she is totally welcomed here. So, your theory is bent and I ditto up Courtney and Heidi. Like Evaine, I find your posts offensive as well…not to mention disappointing.
By the way…this blog is about DWTS. It’s not here to “promote” anything other than what we feel like promoting on a given day. EVERYONE should know by now that we speak our minds on any number of DWTS related subjects – and it ain’t always good. We often rip the show itself up one side and down the other. We have all our personal favorites and those we don’t care for. You don’t like some of what we say? Quit reading it. But coming in here and insulting a couple pros while complaining about how we insult your favorite? Well, that’s just stupid and childish. How’s that for sunshine and rainbows??
At the risk of beating a dead horse, I’m going to agree with Heidi’s original statement (grossly misinterpreted as a “diss”) that Mark’s publicist may have gotten a little crafty with his/her words when they labeled him as a “chart-breaking” recording artist. Heidi’s right – “chart-breaking” could simply mean he’s been on the charts, period – even if the highest he ever charted was #147 (I know Billboard polls the top 200 each week). It’s not technically wrong, but I definitely think publicists count on the less-aware to misinterpret it as Mark being a blockbuster musician who has topped the charts. Same for the claim of him being a Sony recording artist – it’s not wrong, because he is with a smaller subset of the Sony company; but it’s also a bit misleading, because it implies he’s with the major Sony group rather than an affiliate. Ahhh, publicists and their way with words
But hey, it’s what they get paid to do – paint their clients in the best light possible.
If that was a diss, I’ve really, REALLY lost my touch. Give me a minute – I can do WAY better than that.
What a great honor for both pros. How funny that this is Mark’s second holiday trip to Washington, D.C, as he accompanied Pia for Memorial Day when she sang the National Anthem and her signature ‘I’ll Stand by You.” Although this is one of my least favorite pro dance partnerships, I hope they both have fun at the event.
@Melissa, those Marksie shippers are hilarious. It is comical how determined they are to ignore Pia, and any other woman Mark’s been with or whatever guys Chelsie is around and friends with. The twitter shipper pages, disguised at “fan” pages for Chelsie, and the fake Facebooks are even more hilarious.
I can take or leave Mark, although he has recently been a constant source of entertainment and I like being entertained. Although I enjoyed Chelsie and Romeo’s partnership and they received most of my votes until their elimination, and it was nice of her to be part of the recent USO tour, I’m no longer the huge fan of her I used to be. Chelsie really turned me off with some of her attitude and actions leading up to and during Season 12.
Thats pretty cool! I don’t usually watch a Capital Fourth but I think I’ll check it out this year. Not going to lie though I’m more excited by the fact Little Richard is going to preform though (he is amazing still).
Deena, it’s not just Marksie shippers, but shippers for anyone who has ever been on the show. There are a few groups that you can hang the word “crazy” on them, and it’ll fit. And unfortunately, there are still some shippers who, years later, still think that the dream the shipper had several seasons ago is still the only reality that they’ll accept, and faced with reality, resort to complete and total awfulness. It still amazes me that shippers can say some truly awful and hurtful things in one breath, and then turn around and insist that they’re their biggest fan…
Sorry, I didn’t mean to get on my soapbox. Unfortunately, DWTS is a show that breeds showmances and shippers, and I guess giving a wide berth and ignoring when they get out of hand is about the only thing we can do.
@Deena Agree with everything you said. My opinion on Chelsie has really changed. Also, many of the Marksie shippers were so mad that Mark didn’t do the USO tour because he’s with Pia, [at least that's what they said] but they’re thrilled he’ll be in DC. I just don’t get it.
@Lori-Agree. People still hold hope for Julianne and Apolo, Maks and Erin. It’s all very odd.
@Courtney @Princess Heidi @Voguerista – maybe there could be a discussion thread about shippers and showmances during the off season. There is a lot of material from 12 seasons. LOL.
@Melissa @Lori – there’s also those holding out for Sabrina and Mark.
@Lori – unfortunately, shippers don’t believe adults of the opposite sex can have a friendship without it being romantic, even co-workers. IMO, shippers can also be very amusing when they are not being hateful.
@Melissa – LMAO, the drama has already started!! And, IMO, it is quite deliberate. Good old Chelsie and Mark threw the Marksie shippers a bone after the disappointment of him not going on the USO tour. They’ll get LOTS of attention, since the shippers will tweet and retweet about the show very day until the show. Unfortunately, I’ll probably laugh through the performance, like I did with the pro dance with Selena Gomez during Season 12.
Well, it’s a nice show, but not the biggest of the night, usually. You want to do something really good?? GIVE to PBS during the show – congress has been whittling away at their funding which is just bad. Unless I’m misinformed. – it’s been a while since I’ve read about it – but I do know they have pledge drives. Maybe the shippers can put their time to a more productive use.
Maybe I should do a whole post on shippers. Derek/Shannon shippers used to drive me absolutely bat shit. At least they were actually dating though. Same for some of the Derek/Cheryl (cole) shippers too. Again also dating. The shippers seem to get way too invested in a relationship that isn’t theirs. And it’s invariably the big bad man’s fault when it ends, which makes it rather sexist to boot.
So, why have some soured on chelsie? I don’t mind either way, I’m just curious as to what you guys have noticed that I haven’t.
A side note about PBS: many of you have inquired about what ever happened to America’s Ballroom Challenge the only REAL ballroom competition that’s been televised the past several years. Well that budget that Congress has been whittling into is likely partially to blame – the show hasn’t been produced for the past 2 years due to lack of funding. So if you’re passionate about getting it back on the air, you might follow Heidi’s advice and head over to PBS.org and donate to the cause
As for the shippers – I have 2 theories. One is that it allows people to live vicariously through the two individuals whose relationship they’re shipping. Jane Doe the diehard Markette may not have a snowball’s chance in hell of ever dating Mark Ballas, but she can certainly try and promote Mark dating Chelsie/Chelsea/Pia/Sabrina/Jeannine/Pussycat Doll/Joanna/Bristol/random girl off the street and feel like she’s somehow played a part in their relationship by supporting them. My other theory is that the idea of dance partners dating just further romanticizes ballroom dancing in the minds of viewers. “OMG! That rumba Bristol & Mark did was sooooo romantic & sexy!!! I’m gonna go find a ballroom dancer & do the rumba & fall in love, too!” The sad reality is that the heat & romance on the dance floor rarely transfers off of it…what seems like a fairytale romance on the floor is likely more like a struggling marriage off of it. With most of the dance partners I’ve had, if we could curtail the bickering long enough to fake like we wanted to jump each others’ bones on the dancefloor, it was a good day
More often than not, it’s fauxmance. For those lucky enough to carry the spark off the floor (this girl
), it’s not exactly over-the-top romance & passion 24-7. Most nights with my bf are spent eating frozen pizza & watching stuff on Netflix. Not quite the height of romance you see in the rumba or tango – but don’t you dare tell the shippers. DWTS is better than a drugstore romance novel for some of them
Yeeeaaahhhh…judging from the length of this comments section, we may want to do a “shippers” post. Would certainly generate a lot of fodder…we just need a good “angle”…
Yeah, ditto what Heidi said on the Chelsie-souring. Did I miss something she said/did that was totally offensive? She’s always struck me as being one of the most level-headed and professional pros. Hmmmm.
All I remarked about Chelsie this past season was that she seemed to be a little more talkative when she was out and about. She’s always sweet, friendly and polite with the paps that trail the dancers all over the place. I’m as puzzled on the souring as the rest of you.
@Deena Oh GEEZE! That didn’t take any time! Seems like Mark is backing away from the Marksie shippers, though. He, for now just said that him and Chels are dancing together, which isn’t anything like what we’ve seen him tweet about Chelsie in the past. Too funny. I love Mark and enjoy watching him dance, but not with Chelsie. I loved his dances with Julianne, love when he dances with Lacey [I still don't see why people shipped them] and was looking forward to his dance with Karina this season. [The split-screen during Pia's performance was far too much, though] What happened to people just loving the dancing? You can have great dance chemistry without being in a r’ship /rant
As for Chelsie, I think she’s a great dancer, but I don’t get her anymore. How she talked to Romeo at times was uncalled for. She talked to him like she talked to Jake and in no way did he treat her like Jake did. She’s the teacher who takes it easy, so to go from taking it easy on your celeb to all of a sudden ordering them around like Julianne or Lacey have/do, to me, is laughable. As for her out where the paps can talk to her, fine. She’s bubbly, she’s friendly, but to invite the paps into her vehicle? To talk to E! about Mark and Pia because to her she’s his best friend, um, did she get an ego with Derek gone for the season? Know your role, honey.
Yeah, that’s generally not cool to talk to the press about your bffs romantic life.
It’s funny, I’ve been watching old seasons of dwts for a series that I’m working on and I find that julianne’s response to the judges critiques bugs me, or grates on me. She takes negative remarks very personally – but then I remind myself that she’s barely 21 at the time (if that) and female. I wonder if this is chelsie too. Just young. – and stunted in some ways because they don’t know much else. On a side note – the judges REALLY hurt lacey’s feelings in one ep. What they said was true but you could tell it really hurt her. These are basically kids (Jules, chels, and Lacey) who are used to dancing with their equals but are getting criticism from those who….well, aren’t.
Shirley put pics on her Facebook that show that Pia was in Houston for George Ballas’ funeral. Bet the Marksie shippers miss those.
Also-Pia answered a fan sometime saying that Mark is learning guitar parts to songs she’s doing and rehearsing til 3am.
@Deena Now the Marksie shippers are teaming up with the Pia/Stefano shippers!
Seriously, Melissa?? Shipper factions are uniting?? What – they think they can actually MAKE it real? Good lord.
I remember the Mark/Sabrina shippers used to claim that he couldn’t be seen with Sabrina (and this was well after they broke up but were reunited for the DaD) because it would cause too much drama, so he hung out with Ashley from the PCD just as friends.
Good rule of thumb – if you have to create really complex theories to explain why two people aren’t together, get a clue…they probably aren’t TOGETHER. Same for making complex theories of why two people ARE together. You should have seen some of the crazy ass theories of why Derek kept traveling all over the place with Cheryl Cole (to Africa…TWICE). Hello, there is only one reason that a man spends that much time on airplanes and drops that much coin.
I’ve also seen some Mark/Chelsea Kane shippers band together with Pia/Stefano shippers and claim that if Stephen Colletti hadn’t come into the picture, *both* couples would somehow exist. I just don’t get it.
Are Derek and Cheryl C. still together? There are so many conflicting articles I just choose not to read them…
Pretty sure they’ve broken up, Rory. Actually, I’m certain. They haven’t been seen together since February, I don’t think. There were several major holidays and his birthday since then. Pretty sure one of them would have made the effort if they were still together. Of course, there are some crazy ass Cheryl fans tweeting him today asking why he hasn’t told Cheryl “happy birthday” yet. :::rolls eyes::: Shippers. I think they’re terrified she’s getting back with her cheating ex-husband. Good little icons and role models don’t do that (end sarcasm).
Wow, kinda ugly in here.
I’ve been seeing a pattern (more than just this past season) with those claiming to be big Mark fans—they get irate and lash out at even the slightest hint that Mark is less than a god! Grow the hell up please…you are doing Mark no favors here.
Unasked for advise follows—ignore it if you want to. Just trying to help.
If you disagree with a comment made about Mark then respond with your own opinion. There is ZERO reason to attack the person expressing that view or make snide remarks about other Pros(that normally just gets even more people upset or puts them on the offense/defense).
If you want to know why someone holds either a negative or positive opinons on something then ask them to explain in greater detail or to give specific for their reasoning. That can start a real conversation and lead to better understanding. Which in turn usually leads to better things (even if opionions remain unchanged). Cooler heads and all that. Not just bash and run.
Haha, thanks Heidi. I hope he’s happy as we all know he certainly deserves to be.
Back to Mark/Chelsie, there’s an interview here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XeHLszAZqE in case you guys haven’t already picked up on it.
@Heidi It’s pretty said, right? They honestly think if they wish hard enough, it’ll happen. I’d hate to live in their heads.
@Cori I’m a fan of Mark [and other pros] and have no problem admitting when they act like douchebags. No blind loyalty from me, I promise.
Hm, I saw a different interview with Mark and Chelsie where he’s asked if he’s single or serious and he said he’s happy. I’m sure though that if you ask ten people why, you’ll hear 7 different theories. Cray cray!
Awesome Rory! THANKS loads and just added it to the post!!!!!
xxxx
This is the interview I saw earlier. http://www.omahamorningblend.com/videos/124781574.html
Thanks so much, Melissa.xx Added that one too (it’s slow to come up. So, be patient with that one, All!)
I am a Mark fan as well a fan of other pros. There are times that I don’t like or agree with them but I still support them. All of them have their good qualities but sometimes they do things I don’t care for. It doesn’t change my loyalty or support.
As far as Chelsie, I didn’t like how she treated Michael Bolton but I liked her with Romeo.
I know what you guys mean. Maks and Derek are my two favorite pros. I haven’t always approved of Maks’ behavior sometimes, but, that hasn’t changed my feelings for him. Besides isn’t that how we are with people in our lives who we like? It’s not always peaches and cream with anyone.
As for Derek, he’s just one class act all together. I can’t honestly think of one time when that guy has ever annoyed me or where I was disapproving of something he did.
With Mark, I think he’s at a crossroads in his life. I think he is desperately wanting his music career to take off. So much so, we see the negative sides of him these last few years. He wants that stardom almost too much so. He’s conflicted because he knows right now dancing is still his bread and butter….but, inside, dancing doesn’t make him “happy” and it’s not what he really wants to do. Then again, I tend to think he’s just plain spoiled right now. There is a sweet side to him and a spoiled side that seems to dominate his personality.
I think that if we, as fans of DWTS, need to keep in mind that all the stars, pros, judges, hosts, etc sometimes have bad days and often have to work under a great deal of pressure. Sadly, those are the moments that TPTB like to exploit when preparing the broadcast packages.
What I’m trying to say is that because of “editing” things aren’t always as they are protrayed. But if the same types of events/exchanges/attitudes and behaviors are repeatedly captured then more accurate patterns of behavor can emerge and be recognized.
And, as others have said, to like someone doesn’t mean that you are or need to be blind to their faults. I’ve often told people in my real life that while I’ll always love them I don’t always like some of the things that they say and do.
I agree with you somewhat in that Mark is at a crossroads in his life. I think he will always be involved in dancing, he loves teaching it and working with people. I think he is great at it. Some may not like his choreography but he has always been great with his partners on DWTS. I think he is happy with dancing and he has said that dancing and music does go hand in hand.
He really wants his music career to take off – he is amazingly talented. I loved him with Almost Amy & Ballas Hough Band. I also love his new album – he is amazing to see live (his guitar skills are out of this world).
He does have a sweet and protective side to him. I don’t know what you mean about a spoiled side. I guess it depends of your definition of spoiled.
You know what I think would be good to analyze each pro and their astrological sign. This may explain some of their personalities. Mark was born in June which means he is a Gemini (twins).
VOGUE!! Don’t give Derek too much slack – he sucks at being a celebrity.
Who else goes to a MAJOR movie premiere in NYC and avoids the cameras?? WHO?? He goes out with Maks and doesn’t tweet a single picture. Neither does Maks, for that matter. He’s like Mark’s mirror twin – polar opposite. That’s almost as annoying as the constant tweeting about an album.
Katie, good idea. I’d love to do more posts on astrology. We had a post during the finals which included Mark. Did you see this?;
http://www.puredwts.com/2011/05/21/pure-dwts-season-12-how-does-or-will-the-zodiac-effect-our-dancing-couples-for-finals/
Heidi…LOL!!! Derek is just so sweet…and yet shy too. He’s also humble and meek!! Rare qualities in celebrities these days. And yep, he’s polar opposite of Mark in many respects!
@Heidi – I know! He’s so frustrating in the off-season because he never tweets about himself really. His tweets are usually interesting, but gahhh, rarely about himself. And if they are, it’s vague. Oh well. I guess he just likes being under the radar, which I can respect.
@Voguerista – I thought you had done a post about astrology when I was writing that yesterday. Thanks for posting the link so I could read it again.
I agree about Derek – he is the polar opposite of Mark but they are the best of friends. Sometimes in friendship it is good to have someone that is opposite in personality. They can keep each other grounded.
OK Guys – I have worked out what it means from your posts, but where does the phrase ‘shippers’ come from? I’ve not heard of it here in the UK?
Thought the interview was interesting – Mark seemed a little nervous I thought. Also thought he made a good point that our opinions of them are so slanted by the packages which condense so many hours into a couple of minutes. Always thought that Derek and Jennifer got a raw deal – it was always about the injuries and there comments suggest they had a lot of fun. In the UK show, we have a behind the scenes show 5 nights a week (leading up to the weekend show and results show) which has all the couples on each week and shows a lot more of their training. It’s great and it really gives you a chance to get to know them over the season, rather than just the producers’ take on show night.
I think it is really easy to think we know the pro dancers and get interested in their lives. Mind you, there’s a big jump from watching a dancer, enjoying their performances and wishing them well (maybe even hoping you could dance with them!) and getting personally invested in their private lives and hating other people who don’t feel the same!
I can understand why Derek is a bit shy as it’s a difficult to court publicity for their dance studios or music and then pull back when you don’t want people involved! Then again, if you want to perform, you have to play the game a bit – movie stars have to promote themselves!
@Lisa W – I don’t understand the word “shippers” myself. I agree that Mark was very nervous in his interview. Lately when Mark has been interviewed, I have noticed that he is very nervous and Mark is not usually nervous speaking. I get the impression that he may have been nervous about the questions or nervous about what Chelsie might say.
I like how you described what they do in the UK. I would love to see more behind the scenes shows. I agree about Derek and Jennifer getting a raw deal. You only saw her talking about her injuries and didn’t see her enjoying herself. Same with Maks and Brandi – they portrayed Brandi and being obsessed with winning. I would like to see more rehearsal footage and also all the pros and celebrities having fun during rehearsal. Some of them will tweet pictures of them having a good time.
I understand the pros not wanting people to see their private life but when they want the fans to be a part then they will show what they choose. As a celebrity this is what you expect. You really do not have a private life when you are in the spotlight so to try to hide it is a moot point. The paparazzi follows them everywhere they go. When the want the paparazzi to show something, they will use them to their advantage- they can not have it both ways.
“shippers” = relation”ship”. Hence…”shippers”. Meaning that’s what they are most interested in. That’s a word that has been around FOREVER. I first heard it in regard to Mulder and Scully on The X-Files.
Yeah, that’s the problem and the conundrum of being in a business where you need fans and followers. I think Derek is an “artist” in most ways. He wants to “create” his art…be it dancing, choreography, singing or acting…and isn’t interested in the “fame” aspect of it at all. I would almost say he dislikes it completely, judging by his actions recently. He used to be really friendly with the paparazzi but not so much anymore. I’m not of the opinion that any of them need or are required to be “nice” to them – they are parasites after all, who often do what they can to instigate trouble so they can get it on film. But there is a middle ground that I do think Derek needs to try to find if he wants to sell tickets to movies or sell CDs or whatever he wants to do in the future. You don’t have to do the Mark/Lacey level of crazy self promotion, but would it kill him to walk a red carpet once in a while?? I don’t think so. The dudes on the red carpet aren’t going to yell out questions about his sex life with Cheryl Cole (which I bet is partly what led to the recent change in his behavior) or anyone else. Seems like Derek is either on DWTS or he disappears completely. When he was on Cobu the last few months, we were lucky he had costars who like to share.
Heidi, so true about Derek and the paparazzi. He use to so friendly with them. The Cheryl Cole relationship has tarnished that a lot. Sad! I hope he finds a happy medium too and he might after he’s had time to heal.
Katie: “Sometimes in friendship it is good to have someone that is opposite in personality. They can keep each other grounded.”
So true!
