DWTS Pro Karina Smirnoff Lends A Dancing Hand To Detroit Tigers Fundraiser To Benefit Autism Families

Dancing With The Stars pro Karina Smirnoff lent a dancing hand to a special fundraiser for the Detroit Tigers this week. The proceeds from the event went to Jack’s Place, which helps families of children with autism. As most of you know who keep up with Karina, she is the fiance of Tiger pitcher Brad Penny. CBS Local caught up with Karina where she had this to say on dancing and her fiance’s dancing skills. More at the link and be sure to view the video below of Karina teaching some dancing. Check out her HAIR too which seems a little darker or is it just the lighting?? Whatever the case, I like it!

“You’ve gotta enjoy your performance, let the audience know that you’re having fun,” said Smirnoff, “because the moment you start hesitating, doubting or get nervous, it comes across in the performance and then people kinda get nervous with you.”

Will we get to see Penny’s dancing skills at the event?

“You know what, he has twinkle toes,” Smirnoff said. “People will not expect him to dance but he’s a great dancer, he’s just too shy to do it at first. I mean, he does a mean electric slide, and Michael Jackson’s Thriller, I think he’s better than Michael Jackson.”

Smirnoff said she’s trying to get Penny to show his stuff in their January wedding in a Footloose routine, but Penny’s not too keen on that.

Justin Verlander’s girlfriend Emily Yuen said her Tiger boyfriend isn’t too sure about what goes on during their rehearsals, but she thinks all the girls are making progress.

“I think he has a mental picture of it being like the real show. So, he probably thinks Maksim from the show is in here or something with no clothes on but, it’s very professional in here,” Yuen said.

Smirnoff also said she’s very impressed with how the Tiger wives have been doing so far, but she’s a little sad she can’t stay in Detroit longer.

“But, I do have to go back to work in L.A. because, you know, someone has to make money in the family I guess,” Smirnoff joked.

I'm a fashion and music fan....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Dancing With The Stars Randall Christensen Helps With Macy’s MiracleSuit’s Swimwear Fashion Show

Randall Christensen is busy this summer too. Like the rest of the Dancing With The Stars crew including those behind the scenes, I’m sure his work never ends. The Dancing With The Stars Costume designer set his sites on New York City this week to help Macy’s with their MiracleSuit swimwear fashion show. Below is a picture of Randall helping the models get ready for the show….and having a little fun dancing backstage as well. You can view more pics at Randall’s facebook page. See any gowns you like? I like the two in the FRONT! :D

Dancing With The Stars Cheryl Burke Dancing In Vegas, Jazzercising, & About To Release Shoe Line

Think there is no news in the off season? Think again! Our pro dancers are traveling all over the country and the world this summer. It’s fun trying to keep up with them all. For instance, Cheryl Burke was on the east coast this last weekend dancing with Mark at Harrah’s and then within a night or two she was dancing it up in Las Vegas again. Here she is with a friend at the XS Nightclub where they danced to Laidback Luke.

Cheryl also had time to visit Extra for a new Jazzercise spread. She shows how you can work your abs, buns, and arms. Looks fun! I’d take a work out dancing versus jazzercizing though, would you? :D

Lastly, HSN is to release more of Cheryl’s shoe line. Stay tuned for the official release July 5th. You can view some of her shoes now here.

Dance of the Day… I need your help!!!

Here’s the thing… I have a lot of kids, and they’re all home from school for the summer. Silly me, thinking that I would have more computer time while they are out of school, and it’s not that way. Today (Tuesday 6/28/11) is Day 2 of Summer Vacation, and I don’t think I’ve really sat down much at all yet. School doesn’t start until September 7th.

In other words, it is going to take me time to go through you tube and looking for dances we want to see again, and again, and again, and again….. And, I simply don’t have it. Pretty soon, we’re going to be done watching all of our Champions dance their first time, and I do have plans to work us down to our one “favorite”… But I also want to revisit other things, and that’s where I need your help. I know it is going to take me some time to go through suggestions, and to post.

So, in order to help me with future Dance of the Day posts, please answer the following questions in the comments….

1.) What is your favorite Rumba/Bolero?

2.) What is your favorite Quickstep/Charleston?

3.) What is your favorite Waltz/Viennese Waltz?

4.) What is your favorite Tango/Argentine Tango?

5.) What is your favorite jive/jitterbug/or another similar dance? Please be specific, since I am not totally adept at dance names…

6.) What is your favorite Salsa/Samba/Mambo?

7.) What would you like to see in this feature?

8.) I know I’m missing anything, feel free to add….
