Maksim Chmerkovskiy Says He’s Returning to Dancing With The Stars Next Season
Saturday maks travelled to Mt. Clemens, Michigan to attend a luncheon hosted by WNIC-FM (100.3) for 20 of the station’s listeners. Hundreds of fans “endured the summer sun” just to see him. The biggest news at the event came when Maks told the Macomb Daily that he’d be returning for his 11th season on Dancing With the Stars because of a “recent developement”. Below are some quotes from Maks.
In addition, the 31-year-old Ukrainian dance instructor told the Macomb Daily he will return for an 11th season on the ABC-TV dance competition despite rumors that he was leaving to pursue other projects.
“I think it’s all in the process of being decided right now,” he said before attending a lunch event at Bath City Bistro with the lucky winners of a radio contest. “I was going to take a season off but I think I’m going to come back because of a recent development happened that I will disclose later.”
Asked if he’d like to come back to the show, Chmerkovskiy quickly answered: “Of course — it’s fun.”
Maks has just made my 4th of July complete!

Yeah, this was great news when I read it last night! *g* Did me some happy dancing, I did! And like you, Vogue, I’m dying to know about this “recent development” and if it’s the same thing as a couple of the others have tweeted about lately. The “new” thing, you know?

Why did I get the feeling the “new development” wasn’t related to the show?? Maybe something Maks had planned for his time off got delayed. And am I the only one who gets nervous when people involved in the show start talking about new things FOR the show? Their last few ideas haven’t really been that stellar, ya know.
As for Derek – well, this could be his swan song for DWTS – I’ll be curious to see what he brings. And if he lets it all hang out.
He better come up with some results show dances, that’s for damn sure.

What are the chances (this is probably trivial) that we’ll see Derek dance with Nicole, Jennifer or Brooke before he exits the show? Wouldn’t this be great! I guess the chances are slim.
Just hope Jennifer, Nicole turn up in the audience, just about everyone misses Derek! Jennifer even said it.
Heidi – my first thought was also that the “new development” Maks was referring to was more of a personal project and not necessarily DWTS-related, but who knows. And YES! I too am worried that they’re going to try something drastic with the show to make it “better.” And it won’t work. I guess I’m just afraid of change, but yeah, lately the changes haven’t been for the better in my opinion.

My first thought was that someone (one of Kirsti’s famous friends) decided to do the show, but only if they could have Maks.

Will Maks tweet you guys for any reason and give you an explanation as to why? Or is this going to be a major announcement he will make or DWTS, I know you guys know just about everything, you’re both well informed. The invitations that go as mentioned out, have to do with the pros or celebrities or both?
We should know if Derek makes an announcement about his return soon, right?
Good questions Margaret. We’ll have to wait and sit back and see. Maks has said at twitter he will let us know more soon.
And yep, the invitations should be going out soon (not sure if it’s to pros or celebs or both). With the invitations, I expect a lot of rumors to really kick in now. In fact, stay tuned as we’ll be posting on a new rumor that’s just surfaced today.
April, my first thought was similar to yours in that a big celebrity wants Maks and only Maks.
Well, Whatshername the casting director said the invites weren’t going out until after the 4th, so I don’t know if that’s it. And I don’t know if that’s enough to make Maks change his mind if he has something better planned.

But I promise it will be better now that quarter-end is over at work! 
My first thought (and it’s still my strongest inclination) at Maks’ mention of a “recent development” is that maybe one of the other “popular” pros (Mark, Derek, Kym, Cheryl) has decided not to come back – which could thus increase Maks’ chances of finally nabbing the MBT. And maybe it will be something he’ll discuss later – I’m sure if any of the pros I mentioned decided not to return, there would be a decent enough uproar about it that the media would ask the other pros for their opinions on the matter. Idk…whatever this “recent development” is, it must be something that is adventageous to Maks coming back to DWTS…curious to see what it is. Maybe some change in the scoring/judging/etc. that favors good, solid choreography like Maks’.
I definitely think a big celeb has some leverage in choosing their partner – I’m wondering if that’s how Maks got Kirstie in the first place. I’ve said the same thing about Nicole & Jennifer – both were rather uncharacteristic of the celebs being cast on the show at the time (Nicole was still very “current” and Jennifer was one of the biggest names they had had so far), which makes me wonder if they threw their weight around a bit before signing on the dotted line. And I can’t blame any potential “big name” female celebs for requesting Maks – I think this past season really let him shine in a way that we hadn’t seen before, and he’s likely tied with Derek at this point for most popular male pro. Wish I could say the same for Mark – I’m afraid this past season may have actually diminished his popularity a bit, between his choreography gaffes and his iffy behavior. Aaaand cue angry Markettes
@Courtney: I though the same thing. I think that somebody isn’t coming back. I think Derek is going to do season 13 and maybe leave after that but I don’t think Mark is leaving. If Kym left I would be shocked and disapointed (first edyta than her I think every guy who watches the show wiould die). Maybe Cheryl but hopefully its Louis since he annoysme the most out of all the pros.
On a side note ,I want him to get that trophy so bad now. If I had to choose the final three pros in the finale now based on popualrity, I would say Kym, Derek, and Maks. I really hope he gets a huge star this season (like a nicole, brandy, or jennifer). With Kirstie and all the press she got while on the show he seemd to handle it amazingly unlike Mark who when paired with Bristol really couln’t handle all the press so in a way Maks is better suited for the bigger stars.
DWTS is on the record, Courtney, in saying that Nicole wanted Derek. That they admitted it was surprising. Pretty sure Jennifer did as well. I would also bet that Kirstie requested Maks – and I do agree that she boosted his profile TREMENDOUSLY. Hugely. She did him more favors than can likely be put into words.
That said – I’m still thinking that Maks’ developments are professional not related to DWTS. I’m inclined to believe him when he says winning isn’t the most important thing, at least when he says it between seasons. I think it’s pretty clear that he badly wanted to win on that DAY.
Vin, neither Nicole nor Brandy were what I would call huge stars. Brandy had the bigger fanbase most likely, but one that didn’t vote – and Maks had Kirstie who is second only to Jennifer in terms of big names and still didn’t eek out a win. There’s just way more to it than having a good partner. Maks has had plenty of good partners, after all. Brandy in terms of talent, Kirstie in terms of fanbase, Erin-talent….and that’s just the recent partners. If you go way back, he’s had more (Mel B, etc.).
Hey guys im back! I havn’t posted for a while because ive been doing alot of traveling and not really giving DWTS a second thought
I needed a break from it after last season. I loved last season but at the end it really bugged me ( Im still not over the WTA Cha Cha…) But im excited to be back and ready for more DWTS!! So guys i think Maks is coming back because 1. Some other signifigant pro is leaving, 2. A big name celeb was in talks to do the show but would only dance if she got him, he thinks he has a shot with her, he says yea, he’s back on, 3. The producers called him up and said ” Hey we just had our get together last night when we toss a coin and see which pro is going to get the star we want to be in finals therefore we give them a free ride and we picked u but plz keep it on the down low because we’re lucky we’ve gone two seasons without anybody catching on to us lets not ruin the now ” 
So obviously he does a happy dance posibly moones some ppl and says yes.

Heh, nobody in the last two seasons has gotten a free ride, unless you’re a fan of someone who LOST.
I ment Bristol and Chelsea got free rides. Hey I like Bristol but i know she wasnt finals material, i was in denial for awhile but….she has pretty hair.
Maybe the big development is the opening of the new Dance WIth Me studio in Los Angeles. If the studio is opening during the time of Season 13, Maks would have to be in Los Angeles for that anyway, so why not do DWTS and keep his profile high. Or maybe he has a more personal reason for wanting to be in Los Angeles. I’ll be interested to find out what this development is.
I never thought for even a moment that he wouldn’t be coming back to the show. He needs the publicity that the show generates for his own studios. It’s free advertising—and out of site out of mind. Edyta anyone?
Kirstie Alley and Debi Mazur have been telling Maks that he should act. Maybe Maks wants to be in LA to try his hand at some acting? Although, where he’d find the time to do acting appearances during the DWTS season, I can’t fathom. Or maybe he’s getting married and moving to LA (just rumor-mongering here – I haven’t heard anything about an engagement/marriage)?
