Pittsburgh Steeler and Dancing With The Stars Season 12 Champion Hines Ward Arrested For DUI
This is a hard one to report on, Folks! According to Yahoo News, in the early morning hours today Dancing With The Stars Season 12 champion, Hines Ward, was arrested for a DUI in Georgia. Let’s hope for whatever is going on with Hines personally and if he has a drinking problem, he can can get some help and conquer it. He’s still and will always be a Dancing With The Stars Champ to me and I know a lot of you….and I think he is still a gem of a person. Here is a take from the link. DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Hines Ward was arrested early Saturday in Georgia on a drunken driving charge, sheriff’s officials said.
The former Super Bowl MVP and reigning “Dancing With the Stars” champ was booked into the DeKalb County jail just outside Atlanta at 3:41 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence. He was released on $1,300 bond.
The sheriff’s office said it had turned over paperwork to the courts and couldn’t release any further information about the player’s arrest.
A Steelers spokesman did not immediately respond to a message, and it was not immediately clear if Ward had an attorney.
I sincerely hope that Hines takes this very seriously and makes changes in his life to see that this never happens again. I am an Atlanta resident and my nephew who is a policeman was badly injured by a DUI driver (who had been to prom) in April. He spent 32 days in ICU, 60 days in the hospital, has had 13 surgeries, and still has a long recovery and more surgeries ahead. I wish there were much stiffer penalties for first-time DUI offenders so that there would not be so many repeat offenders.
Driving while intoxicated is unacceptable behavior. Drunk driving hits too close to home for me. I have witnessed firsthand the damage that can be done to a family.
Hopefully this will be a wake up call for Hines and he realizes how terrible this outcome could have been.
If I can afford a cab home I’m certain this guy can!
There is NO excuse for drunk driving! NOT EVER!!
I’m glad he was caught and no one else was hurt by his idiotic action! And I certainly agree with D Williams penalties need to be much more! $1,300 is nothing to this guy especially!
This really shocked me. I certainly expected better from Hines.
This was recently put on his FB page (not sure if it’s his or a fan page or what):
On July 9th Hines Ward was stopped by Dekalb Co. police for suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence. He cooperated fully with the police and truthfully answered all of their questions. We are currently in the process of ascertaining all the facts. From our preliminary investigation we can tell you that we are confident that the facts will show that Hines was NOT impaired by alcohol while driving. However, Hines is deeply saddened by this incident and apologizes to his fans and the Steelers organization for this distraction.
I’m not sure how his rep could think he wasn’t under the influence unless he didn’t take a Breathalyzer at the scene. Didn’t he have surgery somewhat recently? Maybe he was loopy from pain meds. If he was drunk, that’s very disappointing. People make mistakes, but he’s certainly old enough to have known better on this one. I bet his mom is disappointed too.
He is reported to have failed the field sobriety test and refused to take the breathalyzer test. He was released on $1300.00 bail. I wonder what is with him…this is his 2nd arrest in 2 months.
I sure hope this lockout is over soon – I think some of the players are getting bored…and for some, boredom can breed mischief. While I would love to give Hines the benefit of the doubt, I sincerely doubt there’s much margin of error for sobriety tests, and this just reads fishy to me. Tsk, tsk, Hines.
I’m wondering what repercussions Hines is going to have to contend with from the NFL/Steelers…I imagine he’s gonna incur a fine and will have to sit out some games. The punter from the Colts got charged with public intox after taking a swim in the canal & wandering around shirtless & shoeless here last fall, and he had to sit out one game and did have to pay some sort of fine…and he wasn’t even anywhere near a motor vehicle. I imagine they’ll treat Hines’ transgression more seriously…I’m thinking 2-3 game suspension and a heftier fine.
Unless of course he proves that this is another case of DWB (driving while black) which, sadly, still happens frequently. Both he and his people sound pretty sure that he was not driving drunk. I think I saw something about him sitting in the car – which if you’re intoxicated and in the drivers seat and NOT driving is still a DUI.
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now – I’ve seen enough fishy stuff in regards to football players to keep an open mind. For now. Judge not lest ye be judged and all that.
Whenever I see this storys I just wonder why the hell these people aren’t smart enough to either hire a car service or use a taxi! It’s not like they can’t afford to do so! No sympathy.
Hines was not arrested in LA. He was pulled over by police who mistakenly thought the car was stolen.
