Louis Van Amstel Talks On New Set Planned For Dancing With The Stars 13, Ballroom Battle, And More!
This last weekend, Louis Van Amstel travelled back to Salt Lake City, Utah to teach more La Blast classes as well as working on the new “Ballroom Battle” segment for Dancing With The Stars. On “Ballroom Battle”, Louis had to choose two young dancers (one girl and one boy) from eight. He had a difficult time choosing since he’s seen them grow up. There were a lot tears shed at the end of the try outs. Be sure to read in more detail at his Facebook account.
Also, while in Utah, Louis helped to host a morning show on ABC 4. He told the other hosts and viewers that he hopes to be on the new Season. He said he and the pros chosen (12 in all) for the show will find out in two weeks. They also talked on the current cast rumors (Snooki, Rob Kardashian, etc). Louis also mentions there will be a brand new set for Dancing With The Stars 13. He hasn’t seen it yet, but, he liked the last one because it was intimate. He said the producers wanted a “change”. You can watch the interview >>>>HERE.
Wow, so many changes for this upcoming Season. So, how do you feel about a new set? I think it sounds fun. We’ll see? I’m also so curious about “Ballroom Battle”. I keep wondering how they will fit it into the show since the show is jammed packed as it is?
New set, eh? Hopefully, there won’t be a place for Bruno! 😀
My guess is that this “Ballroom Battle” is a way to keep some of the pros who might have wanted a season off involved in the show. I can’t see some of these pros coaching a team for the “Battle,” teaching a celebrity partner every week and performing on the results shows. My guess, which is just that, is that the Ballroom Battle is something for the results shows. Perhaps this is a way for some new dancers (or past dancers) like Damian or Tristan to move up to permanent cast members while still keeping our regular “faves” involved with the show. Of course, I could be totally wrong, and some of the dancers could just want to be insanely busy! Who knows? But hopefully, they won’t throw too many new things at us like they did last season. I think they tried too much at once.
Tony confirmed in this interview that he is returning.

Maks also said he was happy to return.
Poor Tony – Looks like we may have another Kate or Wendy appearing this year. He always seems to get the crappy partners.
How do they know? Louis said in that interview that they wont find out for another two weeks?
New stage, huh? Cause that worked soooo well for SYTYCD. Hopefully it’s just things like new stairs or drapery or lighting or something, because futzing with a formula that has worked for 12 seasons seems like a pretty bad idea at this point…especially with all the other changes I’m hearing about :-/
I don’t think ANY of the pros (with the exception of Derek & Maks, who seem like they’ve already been assured they have a spot) can state with certainty that they’ll be on this season yet. It largely depends on what celebs they cast, and I’ve heard stories about celebs waiting until the 11th hour (literally) to ink a contract. We’re still probably another 2 weeks out from the pros tweeting/facebooking their status this season. Thank god Heidi just got back from vacay…”Pro Watch” can get kinda chaotic!
Did y’all see that Tom tweeted that the cast will be announced on the 29th?
They can say if they are confirmed.
Yeah, they’re returning but in what capacity? The producers have made it clear – and so have the pros – that they’re not guaranteed a celebrity partner. It all depends on what the “star” wants, who they think will mesh (or create drama) with who. Just because a pro says he/she will be on the next season doesn’t mean they’re competing. Of course, they very well could be. I’m just saying it’s not necessarily a done deal as far as the cast is concerned.
Well, Jennifer, I’m not so sure about that. I think they’ve been told they’re not supposed to say. I think they LET Derek say – or he’s a bit of an airhead and forgets he’s not supposed to tell. Then again, this season, Maks told – so I wonder if the two most popular guys get the green light to tell. Because Louis, Lacey and others have said they aren’t supposed to say.
Also, I didn’t hear Tony confirm anything in that interview. He said “the praying” begins now. Then he segued into praying he gets a partner that can walk. But in no way did I hear that he was DEFINITELY going to have a celebrity partner. If it’s in the second half hour, let me know – I couldn’t listen to the whole thing. But other than that, thanks for that interview, it was somewhat illuminating.
Suggestions for new cast on “Dancing w/ the Stars”: (8.4.11)
1. Lorenzo Lamas
2. Catherine Oxenberg
3. Sharon Stone
4. Pete Samprass
5. Cher
6. Kathy Lee Gifford
7. Elizabetta Cannaliss (George Clooney’s ex-girlfriend)
8. Don Johnson
9. Kurt Russell
10. Tracy Nelson
11. Bruce Boxleitner
12. Christie Brinkley
13. Sasha Cohen (former ice-skater)
Okay, referring to Jane Fedoroff’s comment, I don’t think Kathie Lee Gifford can do the show because she is under contract at NBC. Christie Brinkley is an idea as is Sasha Cohen. I believe Lorenzo was almost on in Season 11 but I don’t know what happened there.
I just have a hard time believing that “A-List” stars would sign up for this show. And echoing other comments from other posts, giving them almost complete control sounds like a BAD BAD BAAAAAAAADDDDDDD idea.
Boy, this show always feels the need to top itself off, doesn’t it? I suggest looking at Season 10, where in my biased, UN-humble opinion, everything was A-Ok. YOu had theme nights but you didn’t over do it, arguably the best cast ever and ENJOYABLE dances. Bring on the Houghzinger hate mail in 3…2…1….
