Dance of the Day… Let’s watch the One Hit Wonder Pros…
That’s not really a good way to describe them…. But, I had the most difficult weekend imaginable, a most horrid nightmare…. But, I know that there are worse nightmares out there, but this one is pretty difficult to get through right now for me…. And that is all about that.
Throughout the seasons that I’ve watched DWTS (beginning season 3), there are some pros that I wanted to see more, and have been disappointed that they haven’t returned, beyond one season. Since I didn’t watch the first two seasons, I can’t focus on any of those pros AT THIS TIME!
We start in Season 7, with INNA BREYER!! She was a brand new pro that season, and paired with Ted McGinley, if I remember, the same season that we met Lacey. She was on the show for only one week, but had 2 performance shows. That was the season that they all performed on Night One, and then slowly announced who was safe…. They had everyone out before each number, and announced one by one, the pair who would be dancing next…. Creating a LOT of drama and unnecessary pressure (in my mind, anyway) on all of the remaining pairs. The pair left standing at the end went home without dancing a second time.
Here’s her second dance with Ted, they danced the Mambo to “Mambo Gozon” by Tito Puente. They scored a 6,6,7 for 19 points. And, they did not return for week 2, which was very disappointing for me, because I wouid STILL love to see more of Inna, I think she did quite well with Ted. I did like her more than Lacey.
Next…. Remember Fabian Sanchez??? He was on for only Season 6, with Marlee Matlin. I loved this pair, and I thought that each week they remained, they were a triumph! It seems that Fabian is what I think a professional on the show should be…. He was encouraging, he was thoughtful of his partner, he had wonderful choreography…. And so much more. I’ve been disappointed that he didn’t return after Season 6. I still think that he embodies what this show has always been about….He was given a partner who had a big handicap on the show, since she is the only one to compete, that’s not been able to hear the music…. He was able to teach her the musicality, and the dance, without hearing. Quite an accomplishment, in my book.
I chose to show you Season 6, Week 4, with Marlee Matlin and Fabian Sanchez, they danced the Viennese Waltz to “She’s Always a Woman” by Billy Joel…. Solely because I sat here at my computer and cried while watching again. They scored an 8,8,8 for 24 points.
Last up for today, Damian Whitewood…. Damian first came to our attention in Season 10, paired with Pamela Anderson…. I will admit right now, that Pamela and Damian were not my favorite pair of the season, but they did impress me,,,, I loved how well that Pamela was able to totally embody each and every character of each and every dance that they did on the show….. To me, she will stand out as one of the best character dancers…. Even if she didn’t get the technique, no one could ever fault her character…. And obviously, they loved dancing with each other, because they paired up for another dance series, and our wonderful friend Carlos brought it to our attention….. They performed on a similar series from Argentina (and Wiki says it’s NOT related to DWTS or SCD at all, but will defer to our wonderful Carlos for the last word on this…) called Bailando por un SueƱo
Maybe Carlos could find a video that he likes from Pamela and Damian, from this series, and we can add it? And… could we learn more about it?
I chose the Argentine Tango for Pamela and Damian… Here is Season 10, Week 6… Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood, dancing to “Enjoy the Silence” by Tanghetto. They gota 7,7,8 for 22 points, plus 8 points from the swing dance marathon, for a grand total of 30 points for that week.
So… That’s it for now!!!! Is there someone else you would love to reminisce about? Care to share? Which pros that we haven’t seen in a while would you like to remember and dream about in an upcoming post? Is there a dance style you’d love to see more of, and which would you like to see again?

Well, dang it – now you made me cry! What Fabian and Marlee were able to bring to the dance floor was no less than amazing. And although I thought Heather Mills was also very courageous to take this on, I didn’t like her as much as Marlee (despite her dancing with my fave Jonathan). I’m hoping that it’s because Fabian is in such demand that he has no time for DWTS. Although, didn’t he do some kind of guest appearance? I vaguely remember seeing him and Tony and Derek and Mark, too (I think) and maybe even Maks ??? singing La Bamba ??? Am I having a senior moment?
BRING DAMIAN BACK !!!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed they found a partner for him this season.
I had not remembered Inna, so thanks for reintroducing her. I like what I see, and I think she could do very well.
although … if Fabian, or Inna and any of the others wanted to come back for another season of DWTS, wouldn’t the perfect opportunity have been Season 9 with that bloated cast of 16?
I loved Fabian! He was one of my favorites, and I remember thinking that he must be kind of spectacular for the show to pair him with someone who couldn’t hear! I thought he and Marlee were great, and I hoped that he would be back. Alas, not so much. Like Linde, I’m hoping it’s because he’s busy with other things and a successful career, but I did love him.
I love Damian too and love his fun personality. I think he has a lot to offer, so I really hope we see him back soon!
@Lori, thank you for this post. I would love to see Fabian and Damian back, as they were wonderful with their partners.
Great post Lori. This is making me miss Damian in the worst worst way…Fabian as well ….and the MAMBO! Please bring them all back!!!!
And I’ so sorry to hear about your weekend and nightmare. I hope things get better soon.xxx
I would *love* for Fabian and Damian to come back, too! I loved Fabian’s partnership with Marlee. He was a great teacher for her, and they were one of my favorite couples that season. I didn’t think I’d like Pamela, but I ended up enjoying most of her dances. She did a great job with the character of each dance.
I think I’d enjoy having Inna in another season as well.
Thanks for posting, Lori!
Thank you for this trip down memory lane – I’ve been catching up on some other great DWTS moments (in addition to your 3) via your links above.
One thing that really stands out – how very very good Samantha was compared to Brooke. I was one of the ones, way back when, that often was annoyed at Samantha’s style. What a refreshing break to see her interviews again. My apologies, Samantha.
(I’ve lost a good bit of weight on a diet of my own words LOL)
Anna Demidova. Would love to see her back again. She was so good with Micheal Irvin. Great personality, teacher, dancer. Anna was my fave when she auditioned, hands down.
I think the ones that definitely should return to the show are Damian (Season 10), Fabian (S6), Inna (S6) and Anna Demidova of course (S9)- I’d say also Brian Fortuna, but since he’s in SCD I don’t think it’s quite possible-. They all did an excellent job in their respective seasons.. So I’d be more than happy to see any of those guys back in the show.
PS: I just found out this page, and I wanted to say THANK YOU, for posting all this information about DWTS, I’m from Venezuela, and due to copyright and those stuff it’s hard for me to keep in contact with the show. I think I’ll be visiting this page very often!
I think Brian Fortuna stormed off Strictly before last season because they were going to relegate him to that shows version of the “troupe” – didn’t I read that?? I could be wrong, but I would swear Brian is no longer connected to the show.
Heidi – i think you may be on to something. I seem to remember some issue with Brian and SCD to where he left on not so good terms. Don’t remember the details, but i don’t think he’ll be back for SCD this season (which I think also starts in September)
if that’s the case, is he available to come back to DWTS, or is he permanently ensconced in London these days?
I thought he was a good Pro and would be an addition to the DWTS cast. I have to say, I have my fave pros, of course, but I think we could use a little mix up in the pro department. I love them all ..to varying degrees.. but I also love a nice little change up every now and again. For instance …I think Cheryl needs a break, I think Maks needs a break, I think Tony needs a break, all are favorites of mine, but I would like to see what someone fresh and new could accomplish.
However, I can’t help but wonder if after so many seasons, the experienced pros (experience with DWTS) have an advantage over someone joining the cast brand new. That knife would probably cut both ways, so maybe it’s a draw?
Here’s a link that supports what Heidi said about Brian Fortuna. I don’t know if Dailymail is a reliable source or not.

Fabian definitely needs to come back! I didn’t watch much of season 6, but there’s something so inspiring about how he was able to teach Marlee to feel the music, even if she can’t hear it. That, to me, speaks volumes for how good of a teacher he is. Plus, he had so much patience with her. He really is a lovely man.
Rumor has it, Linde, that you are about to get your wish.
Brian is on one of my Twitter lists and I seem to recall him tweeting about it as well.
Daily Mail is NEVER reliable, but on this one I think they hit the mark, for the most part.
My Damian wish? Would he qualify as a “new” face having already done one season?
I don’t think Damian has made the revolving regular list unfortunately. It’s not a good sign that he hasn’t had a partner since Pam. As a shorter pro, he’s likely to come after mark and louis.
I remember reading that Brian Fortuna was not asked back as a pro but they asked if he wanted to do the “troupe” and he and Lilia Kopylova turned down the “troupe” deal. I’m sure he was not happy about it because I also remember Lilia was fuming about it and that’s why she rejected the troupe deal. He’s also not returning to SCD because they already announced the pro line-up. The female pros are all the same (Ola, Erin, Kristina, Natalie, Aliona, Flavia, Katya) The males are Artem, Brendan, James, Vincent, Robin, Anton, and they dropped Jared Murillo for Pasha Kovalev
