DWTS Season 13 Rumors – Hope Solo Spills the beans

I agree Vogue, I can’t remember when a pre-season was this exciting? I hope we have a better season without manipulations or gimmicks ala WTA Cha Cha Cha but this is definitely exciting!

I think it seems more exciting because you all are more involved with this site now. It was like this a few seasons ago – I was finding crazy stuff all the time. Last two seasons it was very buttoned up. So much that they lulled me into a false sense of security.
Those of you on twitter wondering if Hope is playing a game – I think she deleted it WAY too fast. Not to mention that it’s not unheard of for these folks to not understand twitter or make mistakes. Derek didn’t know how to block people till 3 months ago and Damian thought he was DMing Cheryl last night but nope – he was telling the Whole world.

As a soccer fan, I will lose any remaining respect I had for Hope if she goes on this show. She already abandoned her pro team in the midst of their championship run because her shoulder was so very, very hurt (supposedly), and only bothered to make one measly appearance to support the team. Now she’s suddenly well enough to do a stupid dance show? How miraculous! Give me a break. She’s obviously just selfish and trying to milk her 15 minutes– which will be even more fleeting if she manages to hurt herself.
Last night, both Damien and Cheryl were in Las Vegas and Cheryl it appears, asked Damien to come on over to her room and join the party… Damien said okay, but he was with 6 people… including Bob… was that a problem. Then Cheryl told him he was Tweeting to the world and not just her.
and it’s not the first time public tweets have appeared in my timeline that should have been DMs.
I say she is talking when she should not be and playing mind games already and so therefore IF she is on dwts s13 I will not vote for her. If she is on she knew not to ask that question out ahead of time, and then to BOLDLY go against DWTS policy of secret until Monday nite then she is asking for crap to be handed to her! She should not be talking about it yet. IF she still thinks she has time to join and hasn’t yet, and is asking Maks questions, then she should have gone about it a different way! EITHER WAY SHE IS WRONG ALREADY! Playing head games, she is smart and KNEW EXACTLY WHAT SHE WAS DOING WHEN SHE TWEETED THAT!!!!! SHE has therefore turned this person against her already and the announcement has not even been made yet!!!!
IF Hope Solo does join DWTS it will be a showmance and I will mute her when she is on! I don’t like her approach at all!
She will deserve to go home the first elimination nite for planning the fans early! SHE KNEW EXACTLY what she was doing when she tweeted that!

Actually, Hope is kind of retarded when it comes to Twitter. She’s been using it for over a year and said a couple weeks ago that she just figured out what RT meant and always thought it meant “right”. She also still hasn’t figured out how to properly reply to someone. So I would guess she intended to DM Maks and screwed it up.
She is also a self-absorbed, insecure nutcase whose teammates always end up hating her, so best of luck to Maks.

My goodness…such angst over a reality show thats supposed to be pure entertainment fluff..Relax..Enjoy the pretty people, and Tom Bergeron’s wit. Save all that indignation for something meaningful. I for one can’t wait for the new DWTS season to start so I can escape for a few hours every week.
Yeah, not a fan of Hope either but lol at celebs and twitter, wasn’t wiener gate all because he thought he was DMiing someone that picture? Better Hope though than another controversial political figure.
Like most seasons, I will be unimpressed by the celeb list but hopefully find a good personality and good dancers in week one to keep me interested.
Sandy, I think Derek has known his partner fairly early his last few seasons, and I got the feeling that Chelsie has known on occassion, but NORMALLY they don’t know until the day before they meet them. I think Maks situation is unusual because of his desire to take the season off (or leave the show for good – don’t know if that’s ever been clarified). I’m tempted to say he’s known since he was tweeting about wanting her for a partner – I don’t think you ask and then get what you want. No one can MAKE Hope want to dance or sign on, after all.
But who knows? My sense is that it’s a pretty complicated process, getting people and then pairing them up.
Personally, I can’t imagine that Hope is enough to change Maks’ mind – I still think it’s Val.
For those saying she shouldn’t be dancing – well, maybe she isn’t?? Maybe me, Vogue, DWTSGossip and Evaine have been punked.

I usually go into the show with an open mind and sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by what I see. Hopefully this will be the case with Hope especially if she is partnered with Maks. I would hate to see him have an early elimination.

Wow, I’m shocked on some of this hatred for Hope? She and the US team made it the finals. I remember her having a lot of fans at the time. And just because she had to miss some games from her shoulder being hurt, doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be allowed to dance if she wants and if it’s better? Imo, she shouldn’t have to choose one or the other. There is room to dance and play soccer if she wants in her life.
Im with everyone else here. I understand some of you guys have some kind of problem with Hope but I appreciate the efforts here to keep all the discussions possitive and I think it stay that way and im talking to myself here too. I think a good thing for MYSELF and anyone else to remember who has some problem with the show or someone on it is not to take it out on the other posters/bloggers it’s not fair to them. This is such a fun insightful site and we should all try to keep it that way, I think.
I didn’t care for Hope when I saw her on Letterman, but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt – sometimes Letterman is hard to handle. I just hope Maks doesn’t backslide into the behavior he showed during Season 10 with Erin. Ugh.

I keep seeing in almost every comment section people saying Maks was taking the season off and something changed his mind at the last minute – Hope or Val. Can someone direct me to his comments or is there a link to an interview or something where he said he was leaving? So Hope Solo might be doing dwts and Maksim could be her partner for season 13, okay. Imo, would have been really happy, if some of the former dwts pro’s would have been asked back to dance this season, like NK and JR.
It was a whole lot of twitter by Maks, DJ. I actually went back and tried to find the tweets recently and couldn’t find them – then again I didn’t try very hard. His tweet about talking with the producers and it having a big impact is pretty easy to find, though, if you look.
And I think if he wants to bitch because he went in thinking he had a good shot and he gets shot down by Derek, Mark, Cheryl or someone else, he will still find a way to bitch.
What’s with all the Hope hate? I think it’s great that she’s going to be on.

Did anyone NOT know she was doing the show??? This is a prime example of the vast amount of this show’s choreography occuring OFF the dancefloor and DWTS producer’s orchaestration at it’s finest. Having a pro dancer (and Maks of all people) not only name but actively campaign for/recruit a partner? Then having said partner play dismissive and coy (not to mention injured). So transparent. They’ve probably been assured the win as well. This show is becoming much more scripted reality than dance.
Hmmm… so Hines win was scripted…. Jennifer’s win was scripted… Nicole’s win was scripted…. Am I going back far enough?

I hate that “Machiavellian” has become a byword for “scheming, evil, and manipulative”.
One of the great misconceptions perpetrated by an idiotic populace is the idea that Machiavelli actually believed any of that stuff. “The Prince” was a *satire*, a book written to show what he considered to be the nadir of power and government. Yet everyone believes the man worshiped evil and deceit. Sad.
On an unrelated note: I love Edyta, but I saw an old YouTube clip of her dancing next to Kym and Julianne and she’s… well, she not even on the same *planet* technique-wise. I wonder if anybody has ever done a reasonable comparative skill assessment of the DWTS pros. You probably couldn’t do it from DWTS film.
(Not that we don’t know who the best man and woman are but I’d love to assess how they fall in behind L & K.)

I should clarify that I meant that all the song and dance about Hope coming about the show is the
example of the show’s latest contrivance (usually straightshooting Maks has even noted some of the staging of the show in recent seasons, noting the selective editing in the packages among examples). Sure when it all comes down to it folks have to show up and (at least sorta) dance, it’s the other 99% of the rest of the production I’m beefing. At least it makes for some good cheesecake.
That said, I do suspect Maks would not have returned if he’d already had a mirrorball to his name nor if “special arrangements” had not been made. I can see him winning and passing the DWTS torch to Val (who will likely be pro participating on the show henceforth – and amen to that!).
If Maks was just RECENTLY noticing the editing choices of the producers, then he’s not nearly as bright as I gave him credit for being. Dude is on a TV show, editing is part of the game. It just usually worked to his advantage.
I also find it very hard to believe that they would get any celebs to sign on if the win was scripted…except, of course, the one celeb for whom the win was written
While I do believe that much of the show is indeed scripted and/or edited for certain effect (those rehearsal packages immediately come to mind LOL), I just can’t imagine that the win is. To me, that would equate to that $64k Question game show scandal from decades ago, where certain “likeable” contestants were given the answers in advance. If such manipulation were to ever be proven, it would be the end of DWTS. I just don’t see it. Remember when Steve Wozniak (probably spelled that wrong) thought they were manipulating the voting, and then had to sort of eat his words when he couldn’t substantiate that claim?
I agree with Heidi, for TPTB the win is irrelevant – they don’t care who carries home the MBT, they only care about what goes on ratings-wise week to week. And I doubt they would kill the golden goose with anything so stupid as guaranteeing anyone the win.

here’s an idea – how about we let all the Pros choose their partner one season. Instead of TPTB signing the celebs, let the Pro woo their partner – let the Pros use their persuasive powers to sign their celeb – let the Pros make the call as to who they think will be a good partner for them. Probably not workable for a myriad of reasons, but it would be interesting to see who the Pros would choose. We’ll see pretty soon if Maks chose well (if indeed he had any say)

But it could very well be that as well. Maks goes to a lot of the Awards shows, so why not? Interesting!
Something like an award show appearance together would also explain why she was being so coy about all of this, instead of just saying no.
@bluek – While they COULD be going to the MTV awards, I feel as though I have to point out that Cheryl said the couples can begin practicing together as early as tomorrow, and they also have the preseason photo shoot, which I believe happens even before the cast annoucement happens – it very well could be either of those things. I also find it implausible that Maks would ask Hope to be his date if they weren’t partners – unless they’re dating (doubtful), it just seems weird for him to ask someone that has just been an acquaintance (if that) up until this point to go with him. They may be going to the awards on Sunday, but it doesn’t preclude them being partners. And why would she ask him what she should bring? I can’t think of any “gear” one might need for an awards show…maybe a nice outfit and some breath mints? However, she would need gear if they were going to start practicing…i.e. dance shoes, practice clothes, etc. It seems as though you’re hellbent on debunking this one, but for me there’s simply too many coincidences at work to deny this one anymore. Sorry.

She did ask “what do I need to know” and an appearance at an awards show could entail any number of things and could have been set up by anyone.
I guess a part of me also can’t see a world class Soccer player devoting several months to this and risking injury when she has to qualify for the Olympics in January.
And a small part of me wants it to be something else so I can lolz at the people who went full blown fatal attraction on twitter last night.

What do you think? Try to narrow it down, I could be wrong, that is, if these three are actually on DWTS.
The couples meet on the 25, I believe according to Louis (or possibly some other source, but I know I read the 25th), presumably to begin practicing. The 25th is TOMORROW. The announcement is Monday, but they also have the opening shots to shoot for the show and god knows what else goes down. I think it is VERY possible that Maks and Hope are going to start on Sunday.
I also have to think that alot of stuff you guys are coming up with is a bit of a leap in logic (which means I agree with Maddy
) – why would she delete the tweet so quickly, why would she play coy at ALL and not just say NO, I’m not doing DWTS? There are only two plausible ways to explain Hope’s behavior: 1 – she is a huge tease and is setting everyone up for a shock when her name isn’t announced on Monday, or 2) She’s on the show and she screwed up big time by accidentally leaking it. The award show idea makes no sense (from the standpoint of them ONLY doing that and NOT DWTS).
I also don’t think that the interesting development is that Maks got to pick his partner. You can’t just point at someone and say, “I want to dance with her”. That person also has to be willing to do the show and so on. Now, they might have told him that she had agreed to do the show and he could have her as a partner – that I can believe, and I don’t have a problem with that. But I still don’t believe that was enough to get him to stay on the show. I think there is more to it. I just don’t think Maks is that shallow – he’s had great partners three season in a row (Erin, Brandi, Kirsti) and quitting supposedly because he was tired of having “bad” partners is a pretty big slap in the face. He has to know that he’s not guaranteed a win with Hope any more than he was with Brandi.
Shawn Johnson still competed after DWTS, as did another one of Maks’ great partners, Misty May. We had a few football players who were still playing. Louie still competed in snowboarding. I’m sure there are more that I’m not thinking of now – all were professional or world class athletes. I don’t think Hope is remotely special in that regard and in no more danger of injury than any of the others who did DWTS.
Now, LOLing at the people who are going nuts over this news – that I can understand. If this is all a big joke on Hope’s part, I’ll give her an A+ for effort. But you have to ask yourself what YOU”RE going to feel if it turns out to be true. It works both ways. You have to be sure that you don’t really care one way or the other.

I do it all the time…I’m convinced some of them are boiling bunnies, hobbling authors, gouging the faces of ladies pictured with Maks out of photographs, and compulsively doodling “Mrs. Maksim Chmerkovskiy” in a notebook with tiny hearts while wearing a wedding dress. Kinda scary, actually – some of them seem convinced that they have a personal relationship with him just because he responded to one of their tweets. And some make it their personal mission to make sure Maks is aware of how “evil” all of the ladies in his life are. I mean, all of the male pros on DWTS (and some of the female ones, too) likely have some very fringe fans like this, but the over-the-top Maks fans are what scare me the most – mainly because they seem to be much older and much more determined than, say, your average 15-year-old Markette teenybopper. The latter may be annoying, but the former – those are the ones that disturb me :-/

Trust me when I say that I think that Derek and Maks are probably tied for numbers of batshit crazy stalkers/”haters”. Only difference is, a lot of Derek’s reside in the UK currently. Although I’m quite sure a number of them are in the states as well.
I’d be willing to bet that Marky is right up there too. It’s one of the downfalls of popularity.

I wonder if he ever gets freaked out when he meets some of his fans at appearances and they ask him weird things, like to follow them on twitter or to see his body parts (tattoo). Very scary!

I do it all the time…I’m convinced some of them are boiling bunnies, hobbling authors, gouging the faces of ladies pictured with Maks out of photographs, and compulsively doodling “Mrs. Maksim Chmerkovskiy” in a notebook with tiny hearts while wearing a wedding dress. Kinda scary, actually – some of them seem convinced that they have a personal relationship with him just because he responded to one of their tweets. And some make it their personal mission to make sure Maks is aware of how “evil” all of the ladies in his life are. I mean, all of the male pros on DWTS (and some of the female ones, too) likely have some very fringe fans like this, but the over-the-top Maks fans are what scare me the most – mainly because they seem to be much older and much more determined than, say, your average 15-year-old Markette teenybopper. The latter may be annoying, but the former – those are the ones that disturb me :-/”
It is kinda scary isn’t it? and when you think of the UPROAR ~ a lot of it surrounds Maks and whomever his partner is or is not (and really, unless it is one of “them” *insert rabbid fan name* will anyone ever truly be good enough in their eyes?) *ROFL* *sigh*

This could be a great pairing since she is gorgeous and I’m going to guess a good dancer since the Hills was Jersey Shore ebfore Jersey Shore and they went to clubs a lot (as do the people on jersey shore). I would guess Elisabetha (prob spelt wrong) with Tony and Chyna with Maks’ bro. I think that we have seen the last of Louis and Dymetry on the show for a while (I jsut have a bd feeling they aren ot coming back and that explains the new faces coming……….feel bad for Dymetry but not for louis though).

Maddy, it’s possible that the VMA Awards would invite Maks and Hope to present together because Hope is now a mini-celebrity and Maks was so public and determined about asking Hope to be his partner for this season’s DWTS. But I agree with you that “the signs” are pointing to Maks/Hope as a DWTS couple, and not just presenters on an award show. I have no feelings either way about them. If Hope is Maks’ partner, I hope she dances well. And if she doesn’t, Maks will have to lump it since he got the partner he asked for. Hopefully (pun intended), she’ll be a good partner and she and Maks will last for a good part of the season, and add to the entertainment/fun of the show.

Is it just me or does this list of potential female celebs like Christiani Milani, K. Cavalari, Hope, Elisabetta, etc…. seem all around the same ages with great bodies, long hair and long legs….
I personally like some diversification in the celebrities, and I especially enjoy the journies they take you on, like KIrstie and her weight loss.. and being 60 years old!!
Sandy, I agree about having more diversity with the celebrities. I especially don’t want DWTS to turn into some ‘glamazon’ show for young blonde hotties of Hollywood. There does need to be a variety of types that a variety of people can relate to. And some with interesting life or career stories going on – not just the run of the mill “I’m a celebrity, watch me dance” story.
I wonder if Chelsie and Lacey (I’m guessing they are the ones not coming back since the show needs to keep its returning favs like anna T, fan favs cheryl and kym, etc and probably upping Peta to pro (finally)) are going to do SYTYCD if they aren’t coming back. I can see SYTYCD having her, Louis, Chelsie, and Dymetry as choreogrpahers on the show.
@Sandy: Is Elizabetha the same age as them? I always thought she was mid to late 30s. I think the cast will be diverse though from what we got so far we have Hope (soccer player), Chazz Bono (Cher’s son), Rob K (Kim’s curtail rider but normal though), Christina Milian (singer and actress), Elisabetta (model and clooney ex), kristin c (hills star, actress, reality star), Chyna (singer) and possibly Lee Merriweather (former miss america, catwoman, soap star, actress, hollywood legend………really hope this is the year she does the show since she seems like siuch a nice person and I honestly think that they need an older person this season as well like they had with Cloris, Buzz, Jerry Springer, Florence, and George Hamilton.)
Vin, you sound like you are assuming most of the rumors are true – not a good idea.
BTW, Lacey IS back, as is Anna. Chelsie is sitting out for the season. She can’t do SYTYCD because it is over until next summer.

Margaret, did you hear ET say that on their show because I’ve been watching their site off and on all day with news that Ryan might be doing the show? So far, nothing. All I’ve heard on Ryan is that he attended court with his son and that his son doesn’t have to go to jail.

Bluek, I think Tom confirmed the cast is set a weeks ago but maybe when he said he heard the line up he ment the ones that had signed? Anyway if the partners meet tomorrow it would be a little late to be ” in talks ” at this point it needs to be ” on paper ” i’d guess.
I will miss Chelsie, for sure, but am so glad Anna will be back. She’s really has grown on me over the years.
I do think that some of our favorite pros may be leaving sooner rather than later. I’m sure a certain “burn out” is part of it; and just to be free to do something else – this show has certainly been a boon for the pros, opening many a door. But for this show to stay vibrant and fresh, they will have to rotate out the pros at some point. It can’t be the same stable of pros season after season after season after season. And just because Chelsie – or any pro – sits out a season doesn’t mean they won’t be back next season. I’m sure TPTB will want to keep the fan fave pros around as long as they can, but in order to keep those pros happy, they have to let them go now and then to do other things.
That being said …I doubt Julianne will be back
OOH, Ryan O’Neal. Really? I just had a really funny vibe when I read this. MMMM? we’ve been sorely short on male rumors and somehow, this one has a nice scent (thank you Evaine, I love that phrasing *g*). Could it be true? Fits several categories: A-Lister (I’m thinking, right?) – elder contestant (instead of Lee M?) – could really use a major kind of distraction (reason to sign on) – could certainly use a positive PR boost (another reason to sign on); don’t know anything about his reality show (hell, didn’t even know he had one), but if that was a disaster, well just another reason he’d need a PR boost. IDK, but I’m liking this rumor

I think it’s ridiculous to assume Hope doesn’t take her soccer career seriously if she appears on DWTS. The WPS season wraps up this weekend and the US team doesn’t start Olympic qualifying until January. And the people who think that she “bailed” on her team or is selfish, obviously don’t follow soccer. She rushed back in 6 months from a shoulder surgery recovery that was supposed to take 9-12 months just so she could be back in goal for USA at the World Cup, which she had to take cortizone shots throughout. MagicJack had always planned on resting her after the WC. And the US Soccer Federation is always happy to let their athletes accept media offers to promote the sport.
