Sneak Peek Into The New Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Set!
We will have to wait until Monday night to see the full new set of Dancing With The Stars, but today, ABC has released a “featurette” with production designer James Yarnell who describes a little of what it’s like.
Among the enhancements to the set, which has been built completely from scratch as opposed to other seasons: the dance floor is raised above the audience and judges and will provide a full 360 degree view; the set size has expanded to exploit the studio space, including the use of three balcony tiers; the celebrities and professionals will make their grand entrance through the center of the stage as opposed to the staircases on the sides; and it will feature what may be ‘the largest mirror ball in North America.’

Oh, great! can’t see it from my country
I don’t like the idea of the raised stage above the judges and audience. I’ll reserve final judgement till Monday but I didnt like it during acoustic week because mostly all the couples looked uncomfortable on it.
Matt – I’m with you… it scares me a bit. Don’t like the thought of anyone taking a tumble off of a raised stage.
The stage is big though so being raised might not be a problem. I don’t like them coming through the center of the stage – descending the staircase was so awesome!
And the mirror ball is enormous. I saw it delivered on a truck, it’s probably 20 feet high.
Awesome! I can’t wait to see it! I’ll miss the stairs though too.
So many cool changes this season….but, from them all, I’m liking the new pro changes the most.
^^^^ Ummm so the couples are now fighting for a 20 foot MBT??? Or what?
No, it’s a mirror ball that will be placed above the stage somehow for dance and lighting effects. It’s not the trophy they will receive.
Ohhhh. K.
Did that make sense? I hope so. lol
I loved the side staircases that the dancers made their grand entrances on. I hated the week they danced on the raised stage before, all the dancers looked like they were dancing in the middle of the dancefloor and were afraid to take any risks. And frankly I was nervous everytime they danced too close to the edge. Just wait, someone will take a tumble and that will be the end of that.
Okay, so how do they make their grand entrance, anyone know?
I thought I heard they came up from the middle of the floor. Didn’t someone here post that?
The way I understood it was that it would be the center grand staircase. Think like the staircase in Titanic.
I’m definitely curious to see the stage. We’ll get the first glimpse on monday morning GMA when they show the usual camera blocking rehearsals.
I’ll really miss the stairs, too. I iked that feauture a lot.
LOL Zach. I was kinda thinking the same way then I thought, “nah, that’s not right”.
