Dancing with the Stars Season 13, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Week 3 already!! And we have personal stories week – which is never a favorite of mine, but they keep doing it anyway. As Courtney said on Twitter – it’s the night of a thousand rumbas. Lots of info out there (on twitter and in celeb videos) about songs this week so some of these are true spoilers and some…aren’t.

I scared for Kym in her Rumba with David. Hope David doesn’t too far in emotions of the dance. This will be interesting!
I’m not a betting woman, Jay, but if I was, I still wouldn’t take those odds! It’s bound to be 1-1, at least!
I’m wondering if there’s a difference between the “Slow Waltz” and the “Standard Waltz.” Courtney, can you help me out? I thought there were two variations of waltz – Viennese and Standard. Or are Tristan and Nancy just calling it something different on their own? Or is this a dumb question? (Of course, as one of my friends says, there are no dumb questions, just dumb people who ask questions.)
I’ve never understood the use of the rumba unless your personal story is falling in love, etc. It just seems…awkward for anything else. Maybe that’s just me though…
I had the same thought when I saw Kristin’s song, poor girl. She is fine. Young, fit and picks up choreography quickly but she is not Chelsea and she had a hard time keeping up with him.

@Magnolia Well-done Rumba is actually as astonishingly communicative dance. I’ve seen great Rumbas portray anger, disinterest, glee, despair, etc. Granted it’s usually a pretty fraught emotion anyway.
It seems to me that the pros on DWTS always go for the boning Rumba because they think it’s what the voters want to see.
Have a look at Chris and Cheryl’s from last season. Not great execution, but a great example of how Rumba can portray longing and regret rather than just sex.
@Magnolia – Pretty sure slow and standard are two names for the same type of waltz.
I don’t dance ballroom though, so I’m not positive… but I think that’s right.

Pleased that JR is again ahead of the game and already into learning future dances…that learning effort and ability will particularly come into play as the season advances.
I can’t wait until Monday night. Seems like its going to be spectacular. I am excited to see Nancy and Tristan dance to one of my favorite songs, Moon River.

@Magnolia – standard waltz/slow waltz/waltz = all the same thing, just different names. “Waltz” usually refers to the slower version, unless context indicates it’s the Viennese waltz. The
best illustration of the difference? “I Wonder
Why” by Curtis Stigers is an almost perfect
example of the waltz; “Carribean Blue” by Enya
is a prime example of the Viennese waltz.
@Steve – I agree with you totally about the
rumba being able to convey pretty much any
emotion, and many of the other dances can, too.
I always think of Ralph & Karina’s Viennese
waltz as a good example of how a dance doesn’t
necessarily have to adhere to the character it
usually conveys – it was dark & ominous, rather
than lovely & romantic. Granted, their are certain
dances & emotions that probably won’t fit
together well – “sexy” & “jive” come to mind,

Kinda surprised that Chaz & Lacey have been relegated to 3rd position after having the pimp spot 2 weeks ago & dancing in the 2nd half of the show last week. Is their popularity waning more quickly than we think? Or is the running order gonna be a little wacky this week due to all the rumbas? I’m wondering who will get the pimp spot…
I’m not sure that Nancy is my favorite celebrity, but I’m really adoring Tristan and hope he does well on his debut season. So torn. Would it be bad to vote for Team MacGrace just for Tristan. I want him to stay around longer this season and Moon River is one of my favorites.
Oh boy. Chaz has moved into the crap spot and Kristin is still in a crap spot. Worst of all, they don’t appear to be alternating Rumbas with other styles, which means they’re intentionally putting them in bad spots. Oh boy.
I am guessing all those rumbas are going to make the running order interesting. I think Chaz’s interest maybe waning but he will stick around until Cher is in the audience. I am going to guess Nancy is going late again. I do hope she goes early but she seems to be the celeb with the most buzz.
I bet David will go later to help with votes.

I’m not a fan of recycling the songs… (REALLY MAKSIM? FIREWORK AGAIN?) because some of them are too memorable that would be saved forever. (hated that week on season 11 when the stars danced to memorable songs from past champs, simply hated.)
This said, I like the idea that they use the same song to a different dance, as Derek is doing with crazy in love on a samba. I can accept this.

For those curious, “Crazy in Love” was originally used as a cha-cha, for Joey & Ashly’s first dance way back in season 1. First dance EVER on DWTS

I’m thinking Ricki & Derek prolly have the pimp spot, since Karina just tweeted she thinks she & JR are going 6th (top of 2nd hour, most likely). I just don’t see anyone else being “buzzworthy” enough to get it. As for David – they may wish he’d stick around, but I don’t think they’re going to give him a golden ticket to make it happen. The pimp spot is a valuable tool to use in the ratings game – I doubt they’d give it to the guy that fell into the bottom 2 last week, unless it was a fluke of Sabrina & Mark proportions…which it really wasn’t, cause David sucked. I think he’s probably going 2nd.
To carlos, i really dont think it was up to maks this time, it really is a song that is important to hope (the soccer team really did get pumped up to this song in the locker room during the world cup)….so it wouldnt be nice of him to go screw u hope, but ive already danced to this.

I read that the celebs chose the song,and that the Women’s Soccer team plays that before games to get pumped up. I loved it as Brandy’s paso, and if they had to bring back a song that was already used, I”m gladit was that. Can’t wait to see Maks and Hope’s cha cha.
Wow im really loving these song choices! Since when I hear the song ” Fly me to the Moon ” I will probably always picture Buzz and Ashly It will be wierd seeing Rob dancing to it. Im suprised he’s going first though even though I shouldn’t be thanks to that crazy sounding last name of his that makes people in Hollywood do backflips for them for no particular reason.

Who wants to bet Mark will do that somewhat vulgar Beyonce move that Lacey did in season 11 when there was 200th show pro dance to that song? Me. Sadly. 
How, also, did Chaz move from the pimp spot to 3rd? I also just now realized after reading some comments that Move River was Melissa’s song. 
Funny that we have sambas, rumbas and one tango. Why can’t we just have the same latin night that has worked in past seasons with samba and rumba? Oh well…But, I will say I am loving the song choices and am really hoping that we’ll have a wow week versus last week. Here’s for the best!
Nathan, I think the folks on this site are with you in liking just two dance choices each week; but there’s no way to avoid the hodge-podge this week. Since it’s (ugh) Personal Story Week, the celebs got to choose a song that was meaningful to them, which of course somewhat dictates the dance. You can’t Samba to “Moon River”, at least I don’t think you can
I’m okay with watching a million rumbas because it’s the dance that just fits best the time signature of most modern lyrical pop music. I agree with Steve that the rumba can express a wide variety of emotions — it can be steamy hotness, or sweet first kisses, or sad desperation… What I haven’t EVER seen it be, though, an expression of transcendent, “spiritual” love, which is what Kelly Osborne went for in her Latin round, and what Chynna and David said they’d be going for this time. Although a slow song like “Ooh Child” is probably more suited to bolero (unless the house band sings it too fast, which I’m guessing they will), but… I’m a David fan, and even I don’t want to watch him do bolero. I think David doing bolero might cause some kind of singularity of dancing cheesiness, a ball of unfiltered emotion so dense that not even light can escape.
I’m hoping that guys who all seem SO nice but struggled with dancing last week bring it tonight. Chaz, Carson, David- I’m really rooting for you. Could you nail it, pretty please?
So wonder where Tristan & Nancy will be, I bet their Moon River will be kept to the end of the show, maybe since Tristan is getting very popular they will give them the pimp spot this week, any thoughts?

If they based running order on the popularity of the pro, Derek, Maks and Cheryl would always be in the latter half of the show. This show is STILL about the celebrities, for most people. If they are in the pimp spot, it will likely be due to nipplegate, like it or not.
When you create a big buzz (good or bad) you can end up there. Take Rob, for example – he’s in the first spot, which is also great
As we’ve said, yes, the 2, 3 and 4 spots at this stage of the game generally aren’t good. Statistically speaking. It likely wouldn’t hurt someone like Ricki or JR, but it’s bad news if you already have a questionable fanbase.
Margaret, you best get used to the random dances each week – because from here on out, that’s what it’s going to be. The first 2 weeks are the only weeks this season that only had 2 dance styles; the rest is a random hodgepodge. The only thing we can count on is the team cha-cha when 6 couples remain. Yes, it can be hard to keep up with – but we’ve been dealing with it for a few seasons now, and the couples will often tweet what dance they’re doing. Just gotta learn to pay attention.

you are right =], my bad. I get confused… season 11 he used Firework and other from Kate Perry, Teenage Dream… this was the chacha.
Crazy in love was used on the 200th episode pro dance, which I love. Yes, Mark, not Derek… ahahah (what’s wrong with me, when I wrote that? Dyslexia? aahahaha)
But, I still don’t likeing the recycling of the songs on the competition.
Ok guys, I’m only gonna say this one more time: WE SHARE ALL THE SPOILERS WE KNOW. If you don’t see it here, we don’t know it – and we probably can’t get it. The spoilers we get each week are totally random, so there’s no point in asking for a specific couple’s song. If we hear anything else, we will update this post. Until then, I suggest following the pros and celebs on Twitter, and paying attention to all of the media Vogue posts – many of the couples spoiled their own songs and dances this week on Twitter or in interviews. If we continue to get hounded for specific song spoilers each week – we’ll stop doing them altogether. I don’t think you guys want that, do you?
Thanks Courtney. It’s so true about listening and watching all the VIDEO INTERVIEWS which are posted. I know it takes a while to get through them all sometimes (especially the AFTER THE RESULTS SHOW VIDEOS)! But, they are so worth it (and almost as good as the shows itself). I’ve been listing the dances they have if they are mentioned and they’ve been revealing other little teasers on their dances too.

Wow, Chynna and Tony dancing second. That is very interesting. Since its not the best spot to perform during the early stage of the competition, makes me think they are not fairing well with the viewers. They should get by for a few more weeks (I hope) as we weed out weaker dancers. Thanks for the updates!
Seriously – how many times to we have to say WHEN WE KNOW WE WILL TELL YOU? This is getting ridiculous. Just stop already. I may go on strike next week and not post any of them.
I think we’re in danger or reading WAAAY too much into the performance times/order of the couples at this stage of the competition. Obviously DWTS knows the viewers voting results, but it’s only been 2 weeks of viewer voting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if viewer votes jump around a bit. It can be an advantage to dance in the 2nd half of a 2-hr show since people remember later performances better, but people also vote for their favorites. So at this stage it’s probably six of one/half dozen of the other.
Did someone say the team dance was a cha-cha this season again? I’m not sure on the dance style.

I’m prolly wrong about this (I usually am), but I’ve got a sneakin’ suspicion that Court & Heidi were prophetic with their last “lolzDWTS” post – the celeb they tagged with “i iz da pimp in da hud” will get the pimp spot tonight. After all, it’s been said here that you need to be “buzz-worthy” – either really good (JR, Ricki), or an epic trainwreck… and David & Kym could go either way. If I recall, he’s already said they were going to dance “semi-naked”, and Kym said they were going to “show a lot of skin”…. so either he pulls it out, and it works, or it’s a transcendental “PeeWee Herman” moment…
Team dance is cha-cha. No please. They should use salsa or paso doble. I’m all cha cha out!
Courtney, Heidi, and Vogue – just want to say thanks to all of you for bending over backwards and doing handsprings to post every little scrap of info you find as soon as you find it. Unfortunately, you’ve “spoiled us” (pun intended)

LOL SherryJ, I’ve been trying not to think about that. I hope “semi-naked” just means an open shirt. All other issues aside, I’m not sure David’s chest is up to prime time display.
And I’m now officially suspicious about TPTB’s intentions with David. Revealing the real bottom 2? Ok, power of suggestion, but not a done deal. But giving him the Pimp Spot after he’s kinda sucked the first 2 weeks? I’m confuzzled, a la Evaine. 8(

You are correct in that is a WTF!!! I can’t believe that David & Kym are going last. Guess they want to drum up some support for David since he was in the bottom two last week.
Not really Sandra – we’ve done math on it. It really does suck to dance in second or third positions. It’s never a guarantee that you’re going home, of course, but it’s all about statistics.
I think it becomes less important when you get down to 4 or 5 couples.
I had a feeling David would get the pimp spot! I think it has less to do with his dancing but his close association with A list celebs. He comes a famous Hollywood family. The Arquettes are known out there. Also Courtney does have a show on ABC. I guess they will have Nancy go late again because she, not Chaz, is this seasons Kate or Bristol. So Ricki is probably going after JR. Or Nancy will go instead so there will no back to back rumba,
Called it!!!! They’ll play up the drama – “Our dapper actor… can he pull himself up out of the bottom 2??????” Sheesh….
And it will either be good, or spectacularly bad, but in either case, buzzzzzz…

Melissa, Nancy is this season’s Bristol or Kate? I don’t see her that way in the least. I think Rob might fit that comparison more. I really like Nancy on the show. She’s got such a good, positive, and refreshing vibe and heart. She’s been so fun in interviews with Tristan too. She rates up there in my top contestants this season which I never thought I’d say when I first heard she was dancing.
If I were to compare Nancy to anyone from past seasons, it would be Kirstie Alley.

I disagree Vogue. Nancy is a polarizing person. I think she does not come off warm at all. Also like Kate and Bristol, she seems to be the one I think gets the water cooler talk. I know people who tune it and love that she is making a fool of herself, in their opinion. Similar to Kate and Bristol. They do not care enough to have an opinion on Rob. He is a Kardashan and that might bring ire but he is not a lightening rod of controversy. The average viewer does not hear or read his dumb comments.
So TPTB are seriously trying to “get out the vote” for David? Interesting. I think Melissa might be on the right track. The Arquettes are a Hollywood clan and Courtney is in the ABC family. This could be a last ditch effort to keep him on the show and save face. If he still gets eliminated this week they can say, “look, we did everything we could.” From their POV, they need to protect their interests so they can continue to reel in quasi-big (or big by association) fish.
Looks like it might actually be curtains for Chaz after tonight. He’s way off the pace of scores of the other dancers tonight, and he seems to have lost his enthusiasm for the dance (not that I blame him what with being injured, the judges’ critiques last week, his being so overweight, his shyness and dancing just not seeming to come naturally to him). Unless his fan base comes out gangbusters for him, he’s really in danger of going home tomorrow night. Among all the dancers, he’s really the weak link right now.
I think Chaz should go but he will get votes from Cher fans, so I think it’s Nancy & Tristan unfortunately that will end up going.
If they do I will tune in later to see who wins but tonight the judges underscored their Waltz & giving Maks & Hope & David & Kym 8′s for those dances was a total joke.
Seems they want the 3 new pro’s out as quick as they can.

Awesome night! But i think some of the couples in a 4 way tie for 4th place were overscored. Hope and Maks, for example. Thought a 21 or 22 would’ve been better. J.R. really touched (i hope) all of us. HIGHLY doubtful he will go home. If anyone, Chaz or (i hope not) Nancy.

I think the experience with Hasselhoff is also a factor in the “kid gloves” treatment. He’s not the greatest actor or singer, but I enjoy the Hoff. What David A’s appeal is, I don’t understand. Bring on Rosanna Arquette next time, with Toto as guest on Results Show!!!
I agree, Dylan – but those are all couples that the judges are currently invested in keeping around. I think that David and Hope were both somewhat overscored. Kristin? She did pretty well and a 24 is fine.
