Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Week 2 TV Ratings For Sept. 26-Oct. 2nd
So, last week, the Nielson’s TV Ratings posted at Zap2It, had Dancing With The Stars rated at #5 and #9. This week, the shows are listed at #6 and #8. Not much of a change there and still slightly low from past seasons. Like Heidi commented last week, this may be “the new normal or maybe the show is going to reverse to having the higher rated season during the spring when Football is no longer an option.” Time will tell. Note how the X Factor came up a little from it’s 19th and 20th positions last week. It still shocks me that the X Factor is at the bottom of the 20 listed. I have a feeling people weren’t very interested in the auditions, but, they will take more interest in the Boot Camp shows and what follows afterwards. Last Night’s X Factor was super good. Did anyone see it? What other shows are you watching and liking currently?

Unlike any of the other shows, it amazes me how 60 MINUTES hangs in there after ALL these years. Why?
Good to see CSI is still fighting the good fight. I was admittedly skeptical when they announced Laurence Fishburne was leaving and they were replacing him with Ted Danson. But so far, Danson’s kinda working on that show…he’s quirky, like Grissom was. As for Modern Family…that little pudgy French bulldog steals the show for me.
On a pseudo-quasi unrelated note…any bets on what new fall shows are gonna be on the chopping block soon? The Playboy Club (which I really didn’t think was all that bad) was just given the ol’ heave-ho after only 3 episodes. And apparently Charlie’s Angels & Free Agents aren’t doing so hot, either…
“Person of Interest” and “Unforgettable” are terrible. I really wish they would cancel them now. Kinda surprised to see C.S.I. that high up (nothing against ted danson but i don’t think he is a good fit for the show but as long as the supporting cast is there I’m good). I never watched the Playboy Club before it was canceled but watched it today on youtube and it was ok didn’t deserve to go so soon. My bet for the next to go has to be Charlie’s Angels. Not nearly as good as the original.
Also, both NCIS shows are in the top 5?! I get how original recipe NCIS is up there (great show and they always show episodes on the weekends on USA which is good on rainey and snowy weekends) but the other one has only 2 good things the male leads are good actors but the rest ofthe show stinks. Still surprised to see X factor so low on the rankings. Its soooo much better than American Idol (the judges are knowledgeable and are there for the contestants and not affraid to tell people the truth unlike J.Lo and Randy Jackson who seem afraid to do just that…..I like steven tyler though he is great and unpredicatable he is the male paula abdul lol). I wonder if America doesn’t like Simon Cowell anymore?
Well, at one time, all 3 CSI’s were also in the top 20, too, vin – so sometimes the same formula works for multiple casts. I personally like Chris O’Donnell & LL Cool J – they have a good on-screen chemistry. And while you might not enjoy Unforgettable & Person of Interest, they’re still doing pretty well in the ratings compared to most of the other new shows this season – I don’t think they’re going anywhere anytime soon.
As for X-Factor – you have to remember, vin, that the States have been absolutely INUNDATED with singing talent shows within the past few years…we now have American Idol, The Voice, The Sing-Off, America’s Got Talent, AND the X-Factor. Simon may have made a bit of a mistake in thinking yet another singing talent show would fare just as well as the others here in the US – I also think he was banking on Idol being a failure after his departure, which it clearly wasn’t. The addition of J-Lo & Steven Tyler (as well as Randy’s continued presence) was actually well-received. Yet Simon continued touting X-Factor as the “next big thing” with his usual brand of swaggering arrogance, and so far…his show has fallen short of all those grandiose claims he was making. None of the talent has wowed me, the judges seem to lack chemistry, and quite frankly – there’s just other stuff I’d rather be watching on tv right now. It might improve as the season wears on, but for right now…it’s not nearly as engaging as Idol or The Voice or even The Sing-Off for me. America may be tired of Simon…or they may just be tired of singing shows altogether.
Aaaaand this just in: NBC cancelled Free Agents earlier today. Casualty #2 of the fall season…NBC just can’t seem to find good shows, can they?
I didn’t realize tht there were so many singing competitions on tv actually. The only ssining show I watch are the voice, X factor, and Idol. The sing off was good season one but kinda lost tis novelty for me in season two.
DWTS is my favorite show on the list…. Absolutely. I only tuned into the X-Factor briefly and I was not impressed. I think I have had my share of Simon Cowell…
I really like the Sing-Off but unfortunately its on the same time as DWTS so I have watch it online… I also enjoyed The Voice and will definitely be tuning next season. I like the banter between the judges and the teams singing against each other.
I am surprised NCIS is still going strong in the eighth season. I don’t watch it, but my son LOVES it. I am embarrassed to say there is another show in the top twenty that I find myself tuning into…. We will just leave it at that… 🙂
I’m happy that The Big Bang Theory is up that high though 🙂 Great show great cast big laughs. I like Modern Family too but I find it that I have to be in the mood to watch it. Shocked Glee didn’t crack the top 20 its really good this season thus far. Not to mention that the songs coincide w the epiodes perfectly and flow naturally into the plot this season (finally)
@vin – Thats the one!! My quilty pleasure for Thursday night at 8…. Its a silly show but this middle age grandma loves it!!! 😛 !
I don’t know how they come up w the stuff on that show but its always great.
Bless my DVR!!! AND the time-shifting with the satellite. *g*
I record “Person of Interest” and “Unforgettable”, the first because the premise intrigues me, the second because I love Poppy Montgomery. 🙂 I am however, debating removing them from the ‘to record’ list. They’re just not grabbing me.
HOWEVER, I have been sucked right into “Prime Suspect” with Maria Bello, which is a hoot, because I am SO not a fan of hers, but she’s really good in this! *LOL*
“NCIS” and “NCIS-LA” are still must-see TV in our house, and I’m SO glad to see my fave “Criminal Minds” still in the top 20!! Beating X-Factor too! And yeah, I watch CM And record X-Factor. 🙂
@Evaine: I watched the first episode of “Prime Suspect” actually. Great show! She knocks it out of the park on that show. I totally agree about “Unforgettable” and “Person of Interest”. My issue with the latter si that its too predictable and “Unforgettable” has a great cast but sub-par writing.
Also, has anyone watched “2 Broke Girls” yet? I missed the first two episodes.
This is the first season that my younger sister (& her friends) are not interested in DWTS — no Disney kid to root for. I guess the fact that DWTS is not a family event this season is also one little factor in the ratings dip (they did have hefty ratings last season). I’m thinking the partner that Chelsie said in an interview she was supposed to have who waivered & finally pulled out could have been the Disney kid.
After all of the negative publicity about Chaz Bono joining the show this season and so many families commenting how they will not watch the show this season, it is interesting how DWTS has dropped from the highest ratings last season to #6 and #8 this season. Yet no one in the media will acknowledge the controversy as a possible reason.
Well, Tom, I think the reason no one is acknowledging Chaz as a possible reason for the ratings drop is because no matter how loud conservative “family types” may kick & scream & blame Chaz’ presence for the ratings drop, the reality is that there are bigger factors in play than simply Chaz being on this season. You have to consider that the past two seasons have been a bit controversy-riddled themselves, to the point that it could possibly be turning off some viewers who are sick of mediocre dancers sticking around while better ones go home, or are tired of blatant favoritism & manipulation by the judges. There’s also the fact that many have claimed the current cast is, by comparison to other seasons, “not stars”. And you really can’t fairly compare the ratings of the spring season to the ratings of the fall season – they’re competing against different shows & sporting events (spring season has Idol to contend with; fall has to deal with NFL games). And as Heidi astutely pointed out in a previous ratings post, DWTS is in its 13th season – 6th or 8th place in the ratings is still pretty damn good for a show that’s been around that long. People may just
be getting tired of DWTS in general, after all this
time.
So in conclusion – I think you might be giving those “family” viewers a bit too much credit for the ratings drop. I’m sure they’ll likely claim that
it was their protesting & boycotting that caused
the ratings drop (just like many of those same
conservative viewers like to credit themselves
with the demise of The Playboy Club – it
was clunky writing & bad acting that sunk that
ship, but nice try guys!), but when it comes
down to it – they simply don’t have that much
clout, when you consider that the bulk of the DWTS viewing audience is middle-aged women…not children or parents in their childbearing years. So the few families that are now boycotting the show due to Chaz’ participation probably weren’t that big of a chunk to begin with…so I doubt that their absence makes much of a difference in the great ratings game.
Well said Courtney. I know one thing. If it’s true for what Tom said(and I don’t think it is), then I’m ashamed to live in this country and we must still be living in barbaric times.
Reality shows across the networks are down. Survivor, biggest loser, etc. These shows are all older. Not to mention with the fall, there are all new shows to compete against. As for the younger demo, nothing will top them getting The Situation who is a younger demo draw.
