DWTS Season 13, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
Well, theme week strikes again – three quicksteps and a mish mash of everything else! Difficult to compare. Hope has rumba, which is of concern since it’s actually more difficult than it appears. Ricki has a rib injury, which could cause problems for their quickstep, although she does NOT appear to be giving up. I have a feeling it will be JR’s night once again and I think David will also do well with the Quickstep. Carrie Ann will give Rob high marks because her loins will do the talking.
My pre-dance prediction for elimination will have to be a tie between Chaz and Nancy, with Hope’s odds hinging almost entirely on her package, her dance and her overall attitude. I’m pulling for her mainly because I think she has more potential than Chaz or Nancy – but like it or not, personality plays a role here.
Common sense says that the Quicksteps would alternate with the rest of the dances, but we’ll see.
They’ve given Chaz a great spot….or so it appears at first glance. The Group Dance tends to throw everything into disarray. In a two hour show, with only 8 non-pro dances, who knows how it shakes out? Depends on how many pro dances they throw in there as filler. I think I read that Kristin Chenowith is on both Monday and Tuesday as well. Since all the added stuff to the performance show is new to this season (and last?), I’m not sure how it affects running order. I think we’re also getting to the stage of the show where running order no longer plays a huge part in risk of elimination. There just aren’t as many couples. Anyway…
ETA: Now Maks is spoiling songs too?? Heh. I take it a step further and name the song.

Boys. :::rolls eyes:::
This one is cute too, although that little girl looks like trouble. ![]()

OMG. Please tell me that Chaz and Lacey’s song is wrong. It’s a fine song for the tango, but I don’t know if my ears can take listening to the singers murder the song.
Besides that, I’m looking forward to tomorrow night.
Ricki just tweeted a picture of the DWTS ceiling, and the POTO chandelier is clearly visible.
Gitte, I saw that too and thought it was the same chandelier they always have.
I am eager to see what everyone has prepared for the Broadway week…i am sorry that the best pairs have the Quickstep…i don’t know about Karina, but Derek and Ricki …i wonder if Derek will resist the temptation to break hold….he will definitely have to choose between respect the rules for a Len Quickstep… or go for the show! he is a genius..he will not which way is the best for Ricki…he always does…
Looks like the producers are making a comparison between J.R., Ricki, and David by giving all of them the Quickstep, while each other couple has a separate different dance. That sounds like they expect David to measure up to the third slot in the finals.
I think this will be Nancy’s breakthrough dance. I feel so bad for Ricki though I hope she is able to power through it and do a great job
. J.R. should rock it though! I also think Chazz is going to have a rough time w the tango.
Heidi:
Just in case you know. How the heck did Ricki injure herself this time?
I think she should be ok anyhow.
I doubt that the producers put that much thought into it, NYC Girl. I’ve also been told that a lot of this is planned out before the season starts. I’m not actually worried about it. Derek, Kym and Karina all do great quicksteps – it may be something as simple as giving the top people quickstep so that they are sure to have some entertaining dancing. It would suck if everyone sucked, if you know what I mean.
Vin, it doesn’t sound like Derek is dumbing down the choreo AT ALL so I think that’s a good sign. We’ll see.
Cheryl goes first!
I think that Rob might do really good with the cha cha actually. If this was Rob from week one I would have said it would be a disaster but he has a big confidence now and has embraced the competion head on. I think we might see him get the third spot on the leaderboard.
Praise Jesus that they didn’t try to resurrect “You’re the One that I Want” for a 4th time. Although I must say I’m getting a bit tired of Grease-themed routines in general…
Not sure if you wanna add a blurb about the group dance, Heidi, but it’s a medley of songs from Cabaret, and it’s in the broadway style…it’s not any of the ballroom or Latin dances. I think the choreographer might be Kevin Maher, who has worked with Britney, NKOTB, etc. And word on the street is that Carson is somehow involved in the group number
It’s fine with me if Rob actually does a dance worthy of the third spot. He was a bit overscored last week mainly due to CAI.
Court, I like to leave SOME things as a surprise.
#9 Okay, thanks, Heidi. Yeah, for sure “it would suck if everyone sucked”.
But it seems to me that the judges have been pushing Rob for some reason as opposed to David for the third slot. I don’t care for Rob’s dancing at all, but that’s JMO.
Courtney: The group dance is a medley of a song from Sweet Charity and a song from Cabaret according to the press release.
Here is what the press release said that we reported on earlier:
“Episode 1306 & 1306A” – The remaining seven couples bring widely entertaining performances to the ballroom floor with explosive dancing and unforgettable songs from some of Broadway’s most popular musicals of all time. The night full of show tunes will include a breathtaking performance from Emmy(r) and Tony Award(r) winner Kristin Chenoweth, who is set to perform a medley of “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret” and “I Could Have Danced All Night” from “My Fair Lady.” We also welcome the Broadway cast of “Sister Act,” performing a feel-good medley of “Raise Your Voice” and “Sunday Morning Fever.” Plus for the first time this season, the seven couples will perform their second dance of the night together in a Broadway-themed group dance to a medley of “Big Spender” from “Sweet Charity” and “Money Money” from “Cabaret,” on “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, OCTOBER 24 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.”
The group dances are the best!!! With Carson, it would only get better.
I certainly Hope David can work his way towards the third finals spot, but looks to me like he’s going to have to score big to beat out Rob’s base. I’m betting the judges are planning to kiss and make up with Hope this week too so anything could happen.
Yeah, katarina, I suspect the judges will be exceedingly kind to Hope, if their faces after her BTS package on the last results show were anything to go by. They overscored her to begin with so I don’t see that changing.
I definately think Rob has improved but I am not on the CAI “he’s the best thing since sliced bread” train. I prefer David’s dancing over Rob. Ability-wise I think they are fairly on par. Rob is kind of stiff and David seems not stiff enough in his frame but he is more fun to watch. Hope is a big question mark right now as to where she’ll fit into the mix. My fingers are crossed for her. Sounds like Ricki is going to be ok from that recent post. Barring something major happening JR will do great also.
Between Chaz and Nancy I think Nancy has a better chance of pulling off a foxtrot than Chaz does in pulling off a tango. We shall see.
Heidi, I agree. Couldn’t for the life of me understand why Hope was upset at not getting nines for the tango. Maybe it went so well in practice that Maks gave her high hopes, but I doubt it.
… finally got up the confidence to spell my name correctly lol. but anyways, what plays do you think are best musicals/plays for hope/maks and ricki/derek based on their dances?
Maks and Hope are dancing to a song from Rent as per his twitter!
so…i’ve read that Cheryl and Rob are dancing on a music inspired be the Jersey Boys..any ideas what song might that be? i am not a real connoisseur.
i think that rob is growing and prolly the most improved amongst them. and some of you asking how is it possible for him to get same score as jr or ricki did, to some judges?first of all, they have different dances performed and they mark them differently. and marks depends on growth of each dancers.much like the same julianne and chuck had the same identical marks as gilles did at one point. when obviously chuck is not even half decent compare to gilles. and derek and kim i remember surpassed gilles and cheryl quite a few times. it is hard to stay on top, and it is all about how you grow as a dancer people!! it is still anybody’s game, and i wouldn’t count anybody out at this point. you never know w this show. you can’t be over too confident that your team already a shoo in.
I’m with you 100% Gitte. Please say it ain’t so. “Phantom” is one of my favorite Broadway scores, and I just can’t see the singers or Chaz doing it justice. I might be able to withstand the horror of the singers if the dance was great, but Chaz and Lacey??? Oh well, I have high expectations for Broadway night overall. So I’ll survive, somehow.
Oh, yes, please let the word on the street be true! I want to see Carson in the group number! Hmmm, since it involves “Cabaret” perhaps he’s the Emcee.
Cidra: I was thinking the same thing with Carson being the emcee, makes alot of sense, he’ll be hilarious!
Elara: Rob and Cheryl would probably have a Four Season song, its got to be a fast number! Should be a good song.
You guys, now help me figure out what Ricki and Derek would be doing their quickstep to!
so…Maks and Hope do the Rumba on Rent – probably Seasons of love. then there is Rock of ages…Tristan has a “medieval knight” costume…OMG …this is gonna be fun!
Elara (re #38), One of the couples on SCD did cha-cha to “Beggin” from Jersey Boys on their Broadway week. TPTB tend to share songs between the two shows. So that might be what Rob/Cheryl are dancing their cha-cha to. No evidence for that, just a thought.
Yeah, I know they’re dancing to Rent. And since he spoiled it first I may as well update with the song.
i also think david would do well on his QS. he’s very theatrics and animated, and i think this dance should really suit him very well.and kym is a sweetheart and a great and fun qs choreographer, i think he may give ricki a run for her money tonight. i’m still not that confident how quick ricki is on her feet. she didn’t do a lot on their jive, and derek often choreograph speedy QS’s.
Seasons of Love doesn’t ring of romance, at all.
i have my doubts about David pulling off a good Quickstep…is one thing to be hyperactive…and a totally different one to dance well a quick dance that should be also smooth and glamorous. this one can be tough for Ricki too, but i have the confidence that Derek will choreograph to Ricki’s advantage. Nancy in my opinion will have a break with the Foxtrot, so it will be a good week for them. Hope will have a terrible time doing the Rumba…not her piece of cake at all! i don’t see Chaz doing a proper Tango…but then again …does it really matter? JR will probably remain on top of the leader board…he has all it takes to pull off a great Quickstep and i LOVE their song too!
And hence we now see the reason why they kept JR down a few weeks. Everyone loves a “comeback” story, right? So transparent.
and i am really getting tired of them calling Ricki safe first!!! it’s a “little” too transparent for my taste!
@belski, I’m confident Derek will choreograph to Ricki’s strengths. Just hope they can strap up her ribs so she can give 100% to the dance (911 to the costume department — get Ricki a really tight corset to help hold her rib cage in place).
Cute pic of Hope, Nancy and the twins. I agree with you, Heidi — John David looks like a sweetie, but that girl-child looks like a ball-buster. I’d say she’s got a lot of Nancy in her.
Hahaha, yeah, Nancy’s daughter definitely looks like she’s a mini-Nancy in the making. Watch out world!
I’m not too thrilled about Maks and Hope doing “Seasons of Love”, but it’s one of the few romantic songs from Rent so that was probably the best they could do. And ugh, Chaz and Lacey doing a tango to Phantom of the Opera? This might not end too pretty…..
# Cidra – thank for your answer!
Don’t put any money on it, Elara, I’m just making a “wild a** guess” (or a WAG as we call it at my office)
i think that kym is a very strong broadway choreographer. and QS more often than not, is likely the ‘play dance’ on the show. they don’t actually follow proper QS technique imo. i think david and jr can pull this off strongly. karina is also very strong in ballroom, and i think jr may have easily take the top spot again tonight. ricki might be good, but if you would look back, QS is actually one of the weakest dances for derek. but, it seems like derek is all excited for tonight, and he seems to be into broadway a lot, this should be a good dance off for the quick stepper tonight! i can’t wait!!!
oops i’m sorry, it felt like monday already. i mean for tomorrow night, lol. good luck to all and hope it’s gonna be a great show and they can all rock that broadway theme!!lookin forward to the group dance as well.
LOL – A “weak” dance for Derek is a Great dance for a lot of other people.
I think Derek’s quicksteps are highly entertaining, most of the time, and he usually does quite well. He got a 27 with Jennifer, a 23 with Nicole (due to a 6 with Len for breaking the rules and an 8 from CAI for a lift which wasn’t a lift), and a 26 in WEEK 2 with Brooke. I don’t call that weak. The rest of his partners did the quickstep early in the competition (week 2 every time) and he got 23′s and 24′s with Jennie getting a 21. So, of course they’re going to be scored lower.
Ok, so any bets on if they edit down the VERY long, very slow intro to Luck be a Lady?? The almost have to – it would be a third of the dance otherwise.
Interesting. When Maks wrote they were dancing to a song from Rent, I thought of Light my Candle/I should tell you, not Seasons of love.
A little upsetting, since I was sort of hoping someone would dance to the Tango Maureen LOL
Hope Derek sticks to the rules and doesn’t break hold on the QS tho it’s tempting with a good Broadway song. He must know that Ricki does better in-hold anyway. He broke hold with Nicole because he could afford to take the hit on scores since she was doing so well. Altho I don’t think he expected a 6 from Len. Very excited to see how this all plays out. BTW, I agree abt the overscoring of Rob last week which I think is the only reason JR got a 10 for his dance which I think was more deserving of 9s.
Just Googled JR’s song (couldn’t place it at first). Talk about a great QS song and crowd pleaser. Producers aren’t pushing him too much for the win are they??
i agree princess. derek is fabulous. and when i say weak does not mean it is a terrible performance from him. weak meaning, not his strongest, but still great (to others standard). i think his best dances are the paso, salsa, and the tangos. i find his QS style a bit too frantic at times. and often, i felt like they run around too much w not much good quality body contacts (important in a QS). his style is very creative and entertaining though, no questions about that.but it is just my non expert opinion.
btw, rob and derek lookin adorable on the photo above, lol.
JR/Karina’s song “Hot Honey Rag” is terrific for a Quickstep. Evan and Anna had it in week 3, I think, and it was sensational. Should be a good one for JR.
@jl225 – Karina and JR chose their QS song. And they got it. Sometimes the pros do choose their own music. And sometimes the pros are given crappy songs and just have to make do.
Thanks Sandy. I think Karina is smelling a win and is not holding back for sure. We’ll see if JR can keep up. Now I wonder if Ricki and Derek chose their song.
Heidi: They would have to cut the start of the song. I doubt anyone would be able to dance a quickstep to that – not even Derek.
It’s one of my favorite Broadway songs though – so I’m looking forward to see what he has come up with.
You are right Heidi. That song is from guys and dolls. One of my favorites! Sure it will be great.
I disagree about his quickstep, belski. His quickstep with Brooke is one of the best IMO and that was week one! His quickstep with Lil Kim too was quality though the body contact is tough to do given their being difference. His quickstep with Jennifer was quality. The only quickstep that I did not like was Joanna. Otherwise, I found both Houghs quicksteps my favorites done in the show. I do agree his Tangos and pasos are stellar.
jR is going to win so I wish the show would stop with the fake narrative arc. I hope Ricki is ok physically and I look forward to David’s quickstep too. JR is dancing to the same song Evan got for his quickstep.
“Seasons of Love doesn’t ring of romance, at all.”
True, though it may be more to Hope’s comfort zone to do a ‘sweet’ Rumba verses a more sensual version. Other than that, loving the song choices and hoping that the singers and dancers do them justice!
I like Kristin Chenoweth, but I really wish they’d eliminate all the filler and cut the show back to an hour…
That being said, I’ve got to think that Broadway Week is going to favor Ricki and David. Only because I think Derek and Kym are the best choreographers, and both of them have that Broadway flair. I’m looking forward to great routines out of both of them!
I wonder if Ricki and Dereks song will help Rob understand what Guys and Dolls is. He better not think it’s actually a video game
Thats so weird that all the ‘goodish’ pairs have quickstep. Coincidence? I think not
Btw, when are you guys posting the cheesecake awards and the Loldwts for last week?
Izzy, we are combining week 5 with week 6. To say we had a rough week would be an understatement.
Sorry to hear you guys have had a tough week – will look forward to the cheese when it comes!
Just to say that luck be a lady was used for Monique and Louis in Season 3, week 7 – don’t know how to embed youtube, but it is on codebear4′s account. They got 27. There was very little introduction at all. Seems like a good piece of music for a quickstep. Am I right in thinking they are allowed some break in hold at the beginning and end? That seems to be the pattern of the few quicksteps I have watched. I loved Anna and Evan’s quickstep and that is quite recent so JR will have to really own it to make his mark on that piece of music – think he will though!
[...] into tonight being she had two learn two dances this week. As Heidi has reported to you in the new “Who’s Dancing What …and When?” post (more performance details and song spoilers at the link), Hope and Maks are doing a [...]
Derek’s choreography is mostly broadway most of the time. He and Ricki would a joy to watch.
Maks and Hope would do a great Rumba as well. Maks is great in Rumbas They are his best dances.
Those 2 couples will have their comeback week tonigh … And all is well with the world.
Karina seems to like this week’s dance i’m looking forward to their dance as well.
I think Hope will break through tonight with the rumba. I always enjoyed Maks’ choreography in the rumba.
I’m excited to see Chad and Lacey’s tango because I love Phantom of the Opera.
Per the U.S. Soccer WNT twitter, Hope and Maks are dancing 6th.
A little off topic, but PBS in my areas showed Ballroom Championships on Sunday afternoon from 2007 and 2008. Competition and show dances by Val C., Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya were shown. Now that I know them from DWTS, it was cool to see some of the DWTS pros during their competitive days. It was especially nice to see Anna do her competitive thing, since she doesn’t seem to get the most talented (from a pure dance standpoint) male celebs as partners.
Is “Cheri Baby” included in the “Jersey Boys” musical score?
Sorry…the name of that song is “Sherry”. Close enough to Cheryl’s name, IMo.
Chaz has made it longer on this show than I had ever anticipated. I said before the premiere he would probably go right away, time for me to eat crow on that one….
I am on the fence about Nancy, Tristan is such a dreamboat, not sure if the “tweens” are voting like crazy for him. Hope, oh boy, she better knock my socks off this week, or she is my pick to hang up her danceshoes…..
I had Chaz as a finalist before they started dancing. ツ Not much chance of that happening. I actually had Chaz, David and Ricki (didn’t know anything about JR or how good he will be). At least those 3 are still in the competition, that should count for something.
Yay Nancy and Tristan are dancing to Spamalot!
We got our wish Heidi.
Hated the crappy attitude clips they were showing of Hope and Maks. And really all the cursing that comes out of Maks mouth. I am growing sick of him… I get the impression that his teaching curbs on disrespect and bullyism … Ready for him to go… (Sorry Maks fans)…
My stream completely froze before Chaz but I had the audio so I heard Maks’ tirade. That was awful, he flipped and not in a good way at all. Now I know why I was writing essays all of last week on his teaching style. Because right now it truly sucks.
I’m not a Hope fan, but she is being disrespected by Max big time. He makes her cry often and is downright nasty to her. I don’t get it. How can that be a good strategy? It just makes her (as it would anyone) more nervous and insecure .Did anyone see Derek, Kym and Cheryl’s faces in the background when Max said “this is my show, I helped make it what it is today?” Priceless. I think Max could regret some of his remarks tonight.
I had the same problem sasa.
But all the dances(and Maks’ tirade) are uploaded on http://www.rickey.org
Yes, Len was a bit hard on Hope – it wasn’t her worst dance – but it wasn’t great either.
I get what Maks says about the different scoring systems, but you don’t have to be disrespectful towards the judges. And it certainly isn’t YOUR show Maks.
Personally I’m with CAI and Bruno on their dance and would have given them a 7.
Chaz, David and Rob were slightly overscored IMO
MaryM: Yes, I loved Derek’s reaction. In the beginning he tried not to react, but you could see him covering his face with his hand at the end and laughing.
I think the pure gals are probably gonna have their hands full especially after what happened last week. The biggest shocker to me is Nancy being in 2nd place, but tonight in generally wasn’t a great night except for Ricki and JR.
I think the pure gals are probably gonna have their hands full especially after what happened last week. The biggest shocker to me is Nancy being in 2nd place, but tonight in generally wasn’t a great night except for Ricki and JR. Maks should’ve known the moment Len seen Hope in boots he wasn’t gonna score her high regardless of good it was or wasn’t.
Maks showed us tonight why he has never won the MBT….
Thanks for the link Gitte.
I’m just sad that such a fun, positive show gets compromised in such a negative way. What Maks did not only jeopardized his partner but also the show itself. His ego is seriously out of control and it really makes me sad.
I think you’re right about that Sandy. That and the fact that Maks doesn’t do well with the freestyles.
I can’t wait to read the cheesecake this week
This season stinks
Personally, I think Maks was right on the money. The judges have been harsh on Hope. Oh, let’s see, you score her ONE point higher than Chaz? Give me an effing break. Maks said to the judges what many on here have said/complained, etc.
If I were Hope, I would have walked off the stage and given a big F you to the judges.
Congratulations, Hope and Maks! You’ve just bought Chaz another week on DWTS.
That’s about all im gonna say. I felt bad for Hope while Len and Maks were going at it ” Crap, Maks you’ve really outdone yourself…Someone please get Kirstie on the line. ” Yeah but pretty much i’m totally turned off my them and now hope ” heh heh ” Chaz stays despites his suckiness and they exit stage right tomorrow.
Me too sasa.
And I was so hopeful(no pun intended) at the start of the season.
I warmed up to Maks last season when he had Kirstie, and when he got the celebrity he wanted this season, I thought he would continue on that same line.
I think he thought Hope would be like Misty back in season 7, but it just didn’t turn out that way.
Wasn’t he going to take a season off until Val signed up? I think that might have been better for him. (and I’m saying this because I hate him or anything. I like Maks – just not when he is behaving like this)
Oops.. I of course meant: and I’m NOT saying this because I hate him or anything. I like Maks – just not when he is behaving like this
“bullyism”??? Okay, Sandy.
I’m gonna start calling you “Shrub”.
Crack me up.
Derek – trying hard to have a face of stone…but the eyebrows shoot skyward…and then the forehead is in his hand. LOL. He couldn’t help it.
Sasa, that was my initial reaction to Maks as well. Sad. I really felt bad for Hope – I don’t think he helped her.
Derek was funny. Nice to see him expressing emotion.
Oh, he always shows emotion, it’s just that it is nearly universally positive on the show outside of rehearsal. Unlike some, I’m not so sure that his reaction after those comments was positive or laughing. More like, “Oh shit.”
When someone shows positive emotion all the time it gets hard for me to believe that it’s all genuine. I can’t help it.
And this was a completely genuine emotion from Derek- I also understood it as “oh shit”.
I didn’t think he was laughing. I thought Derek, Kym and cheryl all were expressing disbelief. I can’t imagine they found Max funny.
I thought Maks was more with the show tonight until his Len moment. He was laughing, kidding with everyone. Actually seemed more invested in the show than he has all season.
Well, he’s not all positive in rehearsal – on the live portion, he’s behaving the way all of them should behave. And, really, the way they all have been behaving except for Maks.
I don’t want to make this about Derek. I find him to be, as you say, very PC, more so then any other pro. He carries it through to the interviews as well. In rehearsal he can be different but it’s all focused on the work. I can rarely see something that says to me: this is truly Derek’s personality, regardless of the work. Okay, goofy I can see, but it doesn’t really say a lot about him to me. This was one of those instances where I saw his personality. At least something positive amidst all the negativity.
Seems like Maks is making the “celeb-aquarium” uncomfortable again like in season 11 lol!!! I saw someone post this on the “voting” site–”Does Hope & Maks watch their dances back like some say they do?”
Good question! I think any other of the last 2-3 seasons and Hope would be gone by now
Okay, I admit “laughing” wasn’t the right word, and I wanted to change it as soon as I had posted.
He is smiling though, but it is more of a “I can’t believe he just said that”-kinda smile.
I think one of the reasons Derek keeps his temper under control(at least outside the reheasals) is the way his outburst backfired on him back in season 6.
Maks should take a season off. I wouldn’t be able to take the comments from these damn judges. Chaz and Lacy looked just as ticked off at the comments they received. I thought Chaz was reading to walk down the stairs and rip their heads off.
