Maksim Chmerkovskiy Goes On Good Morning America To Talk of DWTS Controversy
And I have a feeling he’s just made things worse? Oh, how I love Maks (and will always love him) and I do understand his frustrations with the judges, but, this is so out of control! Sadder yet is the hard feelings he’s building with Derek. Not good.
Adding: Cameron Mathison reports more on the controversy on GMA today. He interviews Maks’ Dad who says Maks should apologize….

Maks may be right, he may be wrong. But he may be not-so-smart – think of the old saying, “Don’t shit where you eat.” He is absolutely free to speak his mind. And free to get his ass fired off the show, too.
So basically maks is trying to call derek a kissa**…
Maks is indeed an A** and derek may be a kissa**, but he’s a kissa** thats Great at his job, so maks should swallow those sour grapes and move on. Im a fan of hope, so i gotta root for them, but maks needs to take some time off ASAP….can we have Dmitry back now, He’s my FAV.
It gets worse: they are on the same team!
Ricki, Rob and Hope dancing the paso vs J.R., David and Nancy dancing the tango.
How can Maks go from team reheasal last night to trashing his team mate the next day on live TV?
I think Derek is pretty good at being able to put this whole thing behind him, and focusing on what’s the best for the team.
I do think that Robin Roberts (is that her name?) is halfway responsible for what Maks said. I did notice that he DIDN’T name any of the pros who didn’t agree with him, it was her that brought Derek into it.
I don’t think we’ll see or hear anything more about the whole thing from Derek.
But, maybe/hopefully, the whole blow up will end up being good for Hope, and she (and Maks) can concentrate on HAVING FUN!
Derek doesn’t NEED to kiss anyone’s ass. The producers probably BEG him to stay on the show as long as possible. That’s the funny part to this whole thing.
Maks is a jealous petulant child.
Now, everyone please be patient. I’m going to close the comments for a while so that Vogue can add some posts. PLEASE do not sit and hit refresh on the site. Go get a drink or something for a bit.
Comments will be back in a little while, once Vogue is done. The traffic through the site is harshing out our server pretty badly. Patience please.
I really wanted to be done with this after the results show but GMA has to go and continue it.
He’s free to speak his mind. He’s free to dislike others responses to his speaking his mind. What is childish to me is the way he comes off when people don’t agree with him. The whole “you can say anything you want, but the only RIGHT opinion is mine and everyone who agrees with me.” That right there is the reason I don’t care for what he says.
Then taking it a step forward and attacking Derek further is just immature and ridiculous on a show where people really do need to support each other and leave the competition part on the dance floor.
In my opinion, it seems ridiculous for Maks to gripe about the partners Derek has been given. Why? Because while the last three partners Derek has been given are Nicole, Jennifer and Ricki, Maks’ were Brandy (considered just as much a dancing ringer as Jennifer when that season began AND she is much younger so she had that going for her), Kirstie (super popular and almost won the show on fan base alone) and Hope (was considered a bigger ringer than Ricki before the show started and requested by Maks when usually only the celebs informally request pros not the other way around). How can he possibly be bitter about who he was given when you look at his own?
Maks sees nothing wrong with any of his behavior. Thats a shame. Not to bring up the past with Maks and Karina, because I am sure she is sooooo over him… But I was thinking Karina may win this season, and I was wondering if that is also bugging the h*ll out of him.. Poor Baby… NOT!
hmmmm how’s that old saying go something about what you want isn’t what you need? I think everyone(myself included) whom has every said, “The judges play favorites” “but derek’s the golden boy” or anything along those lines may be seeing the downside soon. Though I do give maks props for calling the judges out for their favoritism, and the supposed favoritism towards derek. I think it would have been better(and smarter) to do so privately not via tv and a live audience.
I agree with the comments above that it was totally uncalled for to bring up Derek’s past partners. Maks had many partners that could have easily won the trophy. But who is the most notorious pro that argues and fights with his partners? Maks. In my opinion Maks isn’t a very good teacher and he fails to bring out his partner’s strengths. Derek is the EXACT opposite. So, take a good hard look in the mirror, Maks, because the reason you haven’t won yet, is you and not the partners you were given or asked for.
Hmmm, I don’t think it is such a good idea to be burning bridges while you are still crossing them….
I didn’t watch the GMA interview & muted last night when they showed Maks.
I hope this won’t be the steaming pile in the middle of the dance floor for the rest of the season.
I’m not excusing Maks’ behavior (because I agree that some of what he said isn’t right…especially about Derek’s partners. I mean…really. Maks has had just as great as partners as Derek has had…Kirstie being one of the best celebrities ever on this show), but, I have to wonder how much the producers are loving and egging on all of this controversy? They approve all the interviews and they had to know Maks was going on GMA this morning and maybe even set it up?
Also, did you note in Lacey’s GMA interview (seen in a new post after this one), she said they are family and all support one another and said what happened was just a little squabble between Maks and Derek when Derek’s name was brought up. Anyway, I hope she’s right and everything will be ok. They’ve got the team dance together this week and they’ll need to have it all together to make it work.
Voguerista, I don’t think any issue is a little one where Maks ego is concerned. Sandy, I totally agree with you regarding Karina and how lucky she was to get out from under that loose canon. As for the team dance, Derek’s a professional and I’m sure he’ll put all the nonsense aside and choreograph a great dance.
i don’t know if he is even worth addressing…but…not cool to hit on someone just for stating his/her opinion. not cool to say Derek is there only to take care of his carrier …when you are trying to follow every step Derek did, including acting…not cool to say Derek won because he’s the judges’ favorite or was it because he always gets the dancers…Maks wasn’t decided on that one yet…he saves the reply for tomorrow’s shows…man’s gotta promote himself, right? not cool to blame all the others for your failures over and over again…you better take a step back and as MJ said….you wanna make a change? start with the man in the mirror!
Voguerista- They took our joy away(Carson) and then gave us Maksgate to keep interest up. If only Maks would be a little more original but it’s always the same song. He can probably just recycle his blog from a year or so back. I do like Maks and love his dancing but hate that he’s brought Derek into the conversation. So juvenile. I think Maks has benefited more than any other pro from DWTS from having his students perform, to having his students members of the troupe, to landing Val a pro spot and so on. Smart businessman.
I just want to be happily entertained by DWST and now I’m just sort of sad. Don’t think I can find enough glitter.
Rebecca, I know what you mean. We need more glitter! I want Carson back too and to forget about Maksgate. The judges have needed a swift kick for a long time, but, it was handled all wrong. I agree that it should have been done privately. I mean…it’s so bad, good performances and dancing are being forgotten about.
The nerve on this man to talk in behalf of Chaz about name calling. Did he forget he called his PARTNER a scarecrow this week?
Would you rather be called a penguin by a kooky judge (while wearing a tux no less) or a scarecrow by your own partner while trying to look “sexy” on demand?
I think that word has quickly become one of my least favorite.
No wonder Maks was on that show “H8R”… with ‘friends’ like him, who needs enemies.
yah, I like Maks, in some ways, but he says he has a right to an opinion, but that means others do too..and just because you have a right to an opinion doesn’t make it right to throw other people under the bus. To say that Derek is only looking after his career..Derek is not the one pleading his case and promoting himself and his opinions every chance he gets..he doesn’t publicly talk about his issues, not because he is a coward, but because he is a professional. He is not on twitter pleading for people to vote for him in different things and promoting all his projects like many of the other pros..and in paparazzi footage he is usually the one who respectfully does not talk to the paps..this doesn’t sound like someone who is only looking out for their career to me. Maks has gotten a lot for himself out of this show, and I don’t think he has the right to complain. And as stated, he has had many partners who have had as much if not more potential to win the competition than others…it just hasn’t delivered. As I said, I like Maks..at least I did..but I don’t like all these antics..and I don’t like when pros throw other pros and contestants into the debate to prove a point and “protect” their partners. It may make you feel better, but it hurts the other contestants who are trying just as hard as you and your partner.
Maks is all for free speech as long as people agree with him. What a hypocrite! Honestly, I was feeling sad earlier at the thought that this might be his last season, but I think a break would do him a world of good. It’s become increasingly obvious that he’s become disillusioned with the show. If the whole debacle with the judges hadn’t happened, I still would have been disheartened by the interactions between Maks and Hope in their rehearsal footage. His comments to her about losing faith and her sad and defeated air make it difficult to root for them. Contrary to my expectations, they’re not bringing out the best in each other. At this point, it almost feels merciful to see them both go. At least when Carson and Anna were on the show, they looked like they were enjoying the experience. Can the same be said for Hope and Maks?
I think maks did fine. Listening to Len, I don’t think he expects an apology. As far as CA is concerned, well who cares. She has disrespected herself too much already on the show. I understood maks when he said I. People who understand his passion understand it. I think the judging is always bias. He just made the truth real.
Maks is a hypocrite. As long as you are agreeing with him then its fine. This type of action from someone who is basically spoonfeed anything he wants. His jealously of Derek and others is sickening. I use to be a fan of Maks but not anymore. Maks needs to be FIRED, plain and simple. If this is the type of behavior that is promoted by DWTS I’m appalled.
I think Maks did a fine job. I think the whole thing is being blown WAY out of proportion at this point. I feel like everything has been said, feelings have been hurt and now everyone needs to take a breather and move on. I can completely understand Maks’ frustration with the judges comments; I sit on my couch every Monday night and have to scratch my head after the judges talk because they don’t make sense 90% of the time. One thing is for sure, I’m SOOOO glad someone has FINALLY said something to the judges. I say get new ones and move on!
Maks probably could have delivered his message in a slightly different way but he is who he is. I think the producers are loving the controversy and press. I have been reading alot where people are saying that Maks and Hope look so unhappy and don’t want to be there anymore but how are they supposed to look when, yet again, they are in the “faux” bottom two on elimination night? They can’t be all giggly and giddy when they are in jeopardy again. I saw lots of smiling on Monday night from both of them. She says she wants to be there so I for one believe her. She is a fish out of water but I think she is finally adapting to her environment. On another matter…I know Karina doesn’t want to rock the boat this season given her almost assured win with JR but she has to agree with Maks somewhat given what the judges put her and Ralph through last season.
@Natalie … But it Maks who profited frOm judges last season. Where was he to defend Karina or anyone else???
Maks is the one squabbling. Derek stated his opinion. One he respectfully disagreed with Maks. Maks is the one who cannot let others express an opinion that differs from him. He is a hypocrite and self serving in his “keeping it real”.
[...] sure you all saw Maks’ comment on Dancing with the Stars, his appearance on Good Morning America talking about his comments and Carrie Ann Inaba’s comments about it. So, it seemed like the right time to do a quick [...]
I’m just hoping this makes the judges chill out on the inconsistency and random bashing. That would be nice.
#Jeanne,
So you think tearing down another pro on national tv is doing a fine job. Damn,, what’s a bad job to you. Maks is a self serving 31 year old kid! He’s not standing up for the pros or his partner but himself. Funny how he said he loves “all” the pros on Monday night now disagree with him and you get a different story. Kick rocks Maks!!!
It is one thing to defend cruel comments but another to throw your partner under the bus and self serving complaints. I hope the judges continue to be honest otherwise it rewards Maks bad behavior.
to # 12. I am sure Derek can Choreograph a great dance…trouble is Hope can’t keep time or show any kind of rhythm with one partner. In a team dance she has to be in sych with 5 other people.
Also not cool–all the other dancers(pros) kicked off the show, going on other shows and saying they are voting for JR. Instead of being unbiased and trying not to influence the audeience. Lacey on GMA, Tony on Extra. Producers set up those appearances, they all should be fired.
I’ve heard people saying they think Maks will be or could be fired for this, but I don’t think so at all because this kind of publicity for the show is exactly what the producers love. Heck, they TRY to create drama with the packages they show before performances. With a relatively boring season going on, Maks put DWTS back in the news. Trust me, the producers love it.
I have an agree/disagree issue with Maks’ statements to the judges and in interviews since. I don’t agree that Maks is the only pro on the show who’s being hypocritical in their opinions this season. Karina has a good shot with JR, so apologizing to the judges for Maks and making sure they knew she didn’t agree with his comments is hypocritical to me. I don’t think this would’ve been the case last season. She wasn’t exactly fond of the judges or their comments with Ralph.
I think Maks needs to stop digging himself a hole in regards to Derek. He can bring up the different celeb partners Derek has had, but the fact remains Maks has come in 2nd place.. how many times? To me, that’s saying Maks has had just as many good partners but wasn’t able to deliver in the end when it mattered most. For that, he has no one to blame but himself.
Lastly, I think Maks needs to go beyond acknowledging that everyone has the right to their opinion and start respecting those opinions even if they don’t support his.
I love to watch DWTS mainly to see Maks and Derek dance. I feel Maks had a right to spew at the judges but not to bring Derek into it in such a negative way. What is wrong with a fantastic young dancer like Derek being concerned about his career? I think to get ahead one has to know how to “play the game” and Derek is just doing what he needs to do to protect his future. I just wish Maks would show more maturity and not have to have someone “die” to get an apology from him. If for no other reason, he should cool it so that we who love to watch him dance can continue to enjoy his fantastic dances on DWTS.
Well in the interview that derek and ricki had with access hollywood, Derek did say that maks would probably hate him for saying that maks was out of line for disresepecting the judges. Its on purederekough.com I do think that it will be water under the bridge by the time monday rolls around. Honestly Hope isn’t a great dancer shes way to masculine in her dances and I wouldnt be surprised if she went home before nancy or rob.
Here’s my big beef: did Maks REALLY think this was a good use of his time this morning? Bitching and moaning to GMA when he could be sleeping/rehearsing/eating/pooping/etc.? As someone who has had a hard timing forgiving people who’ve wronged me in the past, I can say this: grudges and anger are a waste of time, energy, and happiness. Holding a grudge is like letting your enemy live in your head rent-free. At the end of the day, it’s Maks who’s just hurting himself – obviously Derek has moved right along to choreographing a dynamite group routine which could potentially save Hope’s ass. Psssh, and here Maks has the nerve to undermine team spirit by pulling this nonsense mere hours after rehearsing with them. Like we predicted, it looks like the personality of his partner has rubbed off on Maks this season: he’s dissing his team and furthering his own agenda.
Courtney – in this case, I think we’ve learned who has more class, maturity and professionalism… and who has more ego.
Oh man, I agree with so much of what is being said…and I respect that which I don’t agree with haha. I just wish Maks, and others would get some of this feedback..though, I suppose it probably wouldn’t have that much of an affect. On another note..man I love this show!
Maks is not worried about being fired because he has no intention of coming back next year anyway. I think he was more upset about be criticized for his teaching style than anything else, especially with Kenny O. in the audience. As many of you have said, “It’s all about Maks.”
If anybody is “looking after his job” as Maks has accused Derek of doing, it’s Tony. He’s the “best friend” who also has Maks as his boss at Maks’ dance studio. Lacey is just plain immature. And don’t tell me Maks would turn down Nicole, Jennifer or Ricki as partners if they had asked for him instead of Derek. I’m sure they’ve seen the way he belittles his dance partners in rehearsal, so they knew better.
I hope Maks and his “friends” bid us adieu next season. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
Courtney – I really disagree with your comment about Hope rubbing off on Maks in terms of dissing your team. Hope’s teammates adore her. The fact that about the entire team has been a guest in the audience proves that. What happened in 2007 is water under about 5 bridges now. The teammates who said bad things about Hope back then are the same teammates showing up in the audience for her, and sending her supportive videos and tweets.
If you don’t agree with Maks, that’s fine. I don’t agree with him going after Derek either. It totally muddles his message which I mostly agreed with. However, I don’t think it’s fair to blame Hope. That is all Maks.
I think it’s pretty damn clear who is furthering their own career here, and it ain’t Derek. It’s also clear that Derek has no beef with Hope AND he could very well save her ass from elimination this week. Unfortunately, that means we get to keep Maks too, who seems to be under this delusion that Hope can actually dance.
Heidi, who in their right mind would want to work with temperamental, egotistical unprofessional Maks??? I don’t know how his meltdown could help further his career in any way!
He was right to tell the judges that they’re inconsistent and constructive with their criticism.
He also needs a lesson on humility. If we ever see that, he can win the MBT.
The irony….exactly a year ago he wanted Bristol off after her first jive. Similar complaints he has about other contestants now. His blinders aren’t letting him see that HIS partner is kind of a “bristol”.
It’s just killing him that he can’t win that mirror ball, driving him nuts. To win, Hope would have to outscore both Ricki and JR who are leagues above her in dance ability, and according to the meltdown he had, that wouldn’t be right. If Hope wins the mirror ball, he’ll no doubt stand by his words and give the trophy back, aha.
And, ha, ha, on the GMA clip he said he could win if he had Ricki Lake. No babe, you couldn’t, not in a million years.
I am pretty sure the producers love this. But you know, I am really really sory for Derek. Maks made a huge mistake and Derek is taking the punches, it is so unfair. Even if this is set up, it is unfair. If Maks talks about freedom of speech, he should allow others to exercise this right for themselves. The WAY Maks talked to the judges was totally innapropriate and I think even he knows this, but he is playing the card. To drag Derek in the whole thing for speaking HIS mind, that is low… Double standards!! And accusing him of looking after his career on the show… I just can’t believe it! Everybody is there for their careers. I think he is just voicing his frustrations in such a righteous and low class way. Maks wanted to have Hope as a partner and it didn’t turn the way he wanted it. There you go. Frustrations.
Oh, and I can’t believe that poll – are ther so many people thinking that what maks did was appropriate?
Oh, and I don’t think that Derek “sided with the judges”. He just said that Maks crossed the line, he (Derek) did that once and realized how inappropriate it was and that he learned his lesson. Or am I missing something?
I think there needs to be a distinction between agreement with the substance of the message and agreement with the way Maks delivered it. Many are frustrated with the judges, it’s a recurring theme. That doesn’t make the way Maks acted right or acceptable though. IMO he was rude and unprofessional. He is also pretty inconsistent himself since when the judging is “unfair” in his favor he has no problem with it, and for someone so devoted to the concept of freedom of speech and opinion he certainly doesn’t seem to extend that right to everyone.
Peonies, you’re asking people to think logically. Cut it out.
ETA: This is why political polling can very often be manipulated to get the results you want to get – and why media outlets often report results incorrectly. It happens all the time and people don’t know it because they don’t reveal the they way the polling questions were worded. The question here was very basic “Were Maks’ comments appropriate” – well, most people would read that as “was he right about the judging” – and most people will agree. We write about it ever freakin’ week. But the key word is “appropriate” – I don’t think they were “appropriate” but I have a thing about words. I would bet that most people on the net aren’t that picky. They just don’t read with that degree of comprehension – too busy, in a hurry, yadda yadda. So, in their minds the question becomes “do the judges really suck” – of course the answer is yes.
Of course, after seeing the Maks fans hate on Derek all day long yesterday, it entirely possible that the mindless ones are traveling from web site to web site screaming and voting any way they can.
And of course, it doesn’t mean that Hope can actually dance, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see her stick around at Ricki or JR’s expense because Maks got the attention he so desperately craves.
I rememeber in summer when Maks said it would be his dream to have Hope as a partner. Then, i think in the first episode of the show, Hope says “I can’t dance” and maks goes “you’re an athlete, this is what matter. the rest is my job” So he wasn’t able to do his job and blaming others. Finding excuses to hide his inability. The judges´’ comments were OTT, but that is their job actually. To be entertaining and create buzz. There wouldn’t be any “Bruno moments” if they weren’t allowed to say stuff like that.
Maks told Hope she looked like scarecrow (how did that sound??) and he was losing faith… Really supportive.
derek supported his partner with everything he did. Including the Maks comments.
Maks’ fans can vote all day long for a poll…at the end of the day what does it mean really? He doesn’t need those poll results to feel justified for his actions. he doesn’t even have the common sense to realize he should apologize for the way he did it. I’m not a fan of Mark, but often during season 12, I saw Mark at the end of the show at the judges table just before Tom/Brooke wrap up. During the interviews after, he would say how he was discussing the judge’s comments with them.
He was sometimes recorded and had his comments played back during a results show, and once or twice ran through a list of “what the dance did have in it” for Brooke. I think even Mark, would respect Len’s career & expertise in the industry.
I think the judges have run out of things to say so they’re resorting to insults. There are only so many ways to say “point your toes and straighten your shoulders.” While they have had their moments of too much candor, the judges really started into this in Season 11 by throwing Michael Bolton to the dogs and CAI threatening to spank Maks. The judges have run out of sparkly gas.
I don’t agree that Maks should have exploded, but maybe after a season of insult after insult he just got fed up and he let his emotions overrun common sense. Already this season we had seen Anna and Hope cry, then Lacey was Monday night.
Well, MaryS, disagree with me if you want. Doesn’t change the fact that I find it very ironic that Hope had the nerve to very vocally diss her team in frustration and now Maks is doing the very same thing. I stand by my belief that Maks seems to absorb some of the personality traits of his partners. The Maks I’ve see as of late is no more the Maks from 6 months ago than the man in the moon – something has changed since then. It sure isn’t the judges – they’ve been giving wacky critiques and off-the-wall scores for several seasons now, it’s nothing new, and I sincerely doubt Maks reacting the way he has to it is going to change anything. The variable here is Hope, and I have not exactly found her attitude this season to be sunshine & rainbows – she is not a total innocent bystander in all of this. I feel sorry for her, I do – but only to a certain point. It takes 2 to tango, and I think that totally blaming Maks is unfair as well – although what happened this week is all on him, there has certainly been some things leading up to this point that have no doubt influenced his behavior.
IMO Maks was always like that apart from the Kirstie season. The difference is probably that he burned out his optimism regarding winning the MBT.
While he thought he had a shot he kept his mouth shot. This season he probably got involved just because they gave him Hope who he thought would be good. When it didn’t turn out like that he just exploded.
Even if he does become like his partners it is not an excuse for lashing out. So I think the matter of is Hope “a bad girl” or not is kinda irrelevant in this conversation.
Check out the first post, Guys. More coverage from GMA has been added where Maks’ Dad says Maks should apologize.
It was ROBIN who brought Derek’s name into the conversation. Maks only mentioned Lacey and Tony by name. I agree with Maks and think he just got fed up with working so hard and putting forth his best effort to have his effort and that of his partner ridiculed. It’s one thing to offer constructive criticism and something entirely different to play to the audience for controversial reasons and laughs as the judges are prone to do. When Michael Bolton was a guest on the show, Bruno was outrageously rude and disrespectful to him and it was tolerated because he is a judge. It was absolutely uncalled for. These judges could take a lesson from Nigel on So You Think You Can Dance because he is the epitomy of professionalism when offering a critique. If, after viewing the film of a show once it is over, he finds he said something that would cause a dancer embarrassment or pain, he will APOLOGIZE on the very next show and do his best to put that person at ease so that there is as little fear as possible about performing the next time. It is a most admirable trait and one these judges just might learn to emulate.
Just watched the second interview.
Louis- what is there to say here? He always wanted more credit for himself and the professionals and I think he’s living vicariously through Maks since he’s not on the show. He has always been almost as much of a diva as Maks.
What Cameron said at the end about Len, I don’t think it was a fair assessment.
First of all, Len didn’t say it was 50% Maks’ fault. That’s putting words in his mouth.
Secondly, the way I understood it he said it was Maks’ fault as well because of the boots. He was angry at the choice of footwear and since the pros design the costumes and think that was what he meant by that comment.
Thirdly, he got fired up AFTER Maks started cheering the crowd on with their booing. And we all know Len gets upset when he’s booed. Or at least that’s his schtick on the show.
And seriously, I’m totally repeating myself here out of sheer frustration: those of you who feel that people shouldn’t be called animals- haven’t you heard Maks calling Hope a scarecrow in rehearsal?!
Sasa, Len said half – that makes 50% so Cameron was correct.
Oh, he did? Sorry, I didn’t hear it. It doesn’t change my opinion much but thanks for the correction.
I have to say it was very uncool that Maks lashed out telling Len he needed to get out of the business. That was totally disrespectful and uncalled for. I really think Maks is upset because he pleaded for Hope to be on the show and now he is seeing what he really got. Plan and simple Hope doesnt have that dance ability. Neither did Carson, but ANNA did choreography to make up for that. With Maks he just puts a number together in my opinion and doesn’t show case the real talent. Being a fan of Derek I will say that was uncalled for again especially by Robin in the interview. Derek gets requested by his partners and also he is just like Anna, Kym, Tristan, and Karina he SHOWCASES his partners strengths on the dance floor. They all don’t just throw some number together and say it’ll be great. No they put the personality of their partners into the routines and showcase the strength they have. I must also say Maks as been in the finals plenty of times as well the reason he has not won MBT yet is due to the fact he can not put a freestyle together. Erin’s was pretty, but not freestyle worthy, Mel B’s was good, but again didnt showcase her strengths throughout the season, and Kirsti’s I watched it on YouTube but it was not that get on your feet and vote freestyle it was beautiful what it stood for but again not freestyle worthy. Where Kym, Derek, Cheryl, Mark (Kirsti Freestyle), Julianne have showcased in all their freestyles what their partners are best at and make it fun and up beat. With that Derek is not a kiss ass he lashed out at the judges season 6 with Shannon Elizabeth and later apologized due the fact he realized the judges were doing their job. He has also gotten critiqued bout his dances. With Nicole S. about her quickstep with Len saying “you are taking the Mickey out of us judges.” I am just saying why is Derek getting the heat when Karina also agreed with Derek and the Judges. It is all about the attention for Maks. I used to love him, but realized that his teaching ability with his partners is not as great as the other pros. Don’t get me wrong he is a beautiful dancer, but just not my favorite when it comes down to putting something together for his partners. Also who do you always see in a fight with their partner? MAKS. I will say he has a right to voice his opinion, but not the way he did. So I agree he should speak freely, but in a more mannered way and not lash at the pros and their previous achievements. That is all I am saying and hope this shit blows over and we have some great dances on Monday night.
I can’t say anything that hasn’t already been said, and we all have our opinion, and we aren’t going to change it, so I’m just going to thank you ladies and gentleman for keeping us informed without being biased or selective in what you share with us. I very much appreciate all your hard work.
Agreed. PureDWTS crew are handling MaksGate very well.
Well, in yesterday’s GMA Maks said if he had gotten Nicole, Jen, or Ricki, he wouldn’t be complaining to the judges, which is a blatant display of hypocrisy.
#katarina- So I guess Maks is saying if he was a winner he would not be complaining. LOL , Maks. I’ve decided to take this Maksgate with a grain of salt.
But I need some Cheesecake please.
Whether this is fabricated or not, it sucks no matter the source. You have a guy (rather disrespectfully) proclaiming to go to bat for the pros and celebs in one breath and then (just as disrespectfully) throwing them under the bus in the next. Could the judges be more consistent, sensitive and tactful at times? Hates yeah!! But then they’d lack the impact and shock element the show now relishes. But, frankly, the judges critiques and scores have been overall generous to Hope and I’m not so sure that’s what’s Maks outburst was initally over anyway. Of course this mess now detracts from the fact that Hope had another subpar dance, ugly week of rehearsal (no doubt enhanced by editing) and just doesn’t click with Maks, the latters of which is what I think Len was getting to (why it just might be that Hope dances better and enjoys herself more when in company other than just Maks) and that’s what truly set Maks off.
Bottom line, the show needed to drum up the seasonal theme of “controversy” so this nonsense will be milked and the judges will walk on eggshells around them all the way to the Mirrorball (unless they are mercifully spared after a decent dance).
So disheartened by what this show has morphed into. And while a past fan of each Maks and Hope, I’m so NOT enjoying their so-called journey here. In fact, it’s been a rather low point of the season.
I don’t think the contestants dragging Derek in to things is right in the first place, but too, I think the pros (such as Louis and Maks) and the reporters just plain have their facts wrong. I am quite sure Derek never said he sided with the judges. He was quite diplomatic, and all he said was that as far as the outburst, maybe Maks could have been more professional, there is a time and a place. I don’t think he ever really sided with the judges opinions..not that it would be wrong if he did. And to say that Derek has never really been criticized so he has nothing to complain about is hypocritical and petty. It suggests that if Louis or Maks never got negatively critiqued (Which they deserve), there would be no issue. Everyone on that show has gotten both wrongfully criticized and wrongly praised at some point. Some people are just more professional about it and know not to take it so personally. (As a matter of fact, while talking about Derek, you often here him taking the blame for things that go wrong, such as the Roger Rabbit, even if it’s not his blame to take)
*hear
Maks is having the last laugh and loving it! The fact that everyone is still talking about Maks and Hope is great…. Mission accomplished I would think…
Amen, Kenna – I think people are falsely assuming that Derek thinking Maks went about it the wrong way and Derek clearly siding with the judges are the same thing. But so many fans seem insistent on making it Derek vs. Maks, that they distort it into “Derek the Coward” siding with the judges. Absolutely ludicrous, and kind of an obtuse assumption to make. And yes, I can think of PLENTY of times where Derek (or Derek’s partners) have gotten flak from the judges – hello, Shannon’s rumba? Brooke’s jive? Nicole’s samba, quickstep, & rumba? Jennifer’s paso? And these are all just off the top of my head…hell, if I had the time and the desire, I’d make a YouTube video of all the negative comments he’s gotten from the judges.
And Sandy, I’m sure he really is lapping it up like a cat with a saucer of cream…which is why I have half a mind to close the comments on all the Hope & Maks-related posts until this whole thing blows over. It’s troll bait, and I feel the need to constantly patrol the site to make sure no one is getting nasty. We’re going to be turning off comments tomorrow for the host upgrade, anyway…
Lol, Karina said he needed a hug, also adding a couple of tummy pats, maybe could have helped.
Maks should listen to his handsome daddy. He gave him the perfect opening for a face-saving apology.
@Courtney – Actually does sound like a good idea. Myself, I would like to go into Monday night totally Maks free if you know what I mean… Only positivity for me from here on out… Enjoy the show
Courtney:
I agree Derek saying that Maks went about it the wrong way, does not in anyway suggest that he is siding with the judges. People should just leave this alone now and move on! We all should its boring now!
Bring on Monday!
I really wonder if Maks and his defendants even realize there are several other pros that have never won either. I have never seen any of them or their fans act this way yet I hear the same rants from Maks fans every single week…
Courtney, I’d be tickled pink if the Pure-oligarchy decided it was a good thing to turn off the comments on these stale Maksgate threads. I don’t think it would be stifling anyone’s free speech rights at this point. It’s been talked to death and then some! At this point, nobody is going to be swayed by civil discussion into changing their position on the whole debacle.
I totally understand Maks’ frustration with the over-scoring and underscoring of the judges. Sometimes I sit at yell at the tv because I swear the judges are watching different dancers than I am. And I do think they pick on people and don’t judge them all equally (as equally as possible). Like Ralph, who was woefully underscored, and Kendra Wilkinson, who was totally overscored for her horrible dancing. So, no, Maks doesn’t need to apologize for his frustration. He might need to apologize for telling Len it’s time for him to go, as it is disrespectful to an elder, but he shouldn’t have to apologize for anything else.
I have a feeling Ralph wouldn’t be too thrilled having Maks fight for his cause and Kendra would be facing the ultimate test on whether she’s “a lady” through dealing with insinuations that her scores were too high. lol
Maks’ buddy Louis would also face the “lady” (in this case gentleman) challenge, considering how unhappy he was with the scores they got. And not because he thought they were too high.
The odd thing about Louis – or should I say totally self serving as usual – is that he echoed what Derek said – until they asked him to come on GMA. He changes his tune regularly depending on what will get him further. He’s always been a petty, mean spirited brat.
Heidi, excellent point. In his blog, Louis clearly said Maks should not have spoken to the judges the way he did, then changed his tune when he was given the opportunity to be on national television. What’s up with that?
Louis is a famewhore looking for a way back in, that’s what’s up with that. He changes his opinion so often, I’m surprised he can keep track.
Maybe he just really wants maks to follow him on twitter.
Is there any word at all on how the team dance is going with Maks and Derek? Are they getting along? Is it just the fans that are still upset? Have the two of them put it behind them???
@Meggie – Allegedly, everything’s good in the hood with the group dance rehearsals – I’ve heard that both teams are getting along great. No noticeable bad blood between Maks & Derek – I guess Maks has kinda let Derek take the lead with the team paso choreo, and is focusing more on helping Hope with the paso steps and making sure she’s ready for the team dance. There have been a few of the usual tiffs between Hope & Maks, but other than that, I haven’t heard of there being any drama in the group dance rehearsals. I guess that’s a good sign!
Thanks, Courtney! I’m so glad to hear that! Now I think I can move forward too! If Derek can put it behind him, surely to goodness, I can!
Yeah, also Lacey said in one her and Chaz’s interviews all has been forgiven with Maks and Derek.
Maks-I’ve moved past the spat with Len! I have to say I think you are a fabulous dancer. I was a bit upset with you at first. But after the outburst I saw in your eyes how hurt you were. I hope you have moved on from this and can get get on with your life. I truly think you did get a bad deal. But you have to suck it up and move past it all. When I saw the hurt in your eyes I cried! I loved how you joined in last night with the cast when Kym and David were eliminated for their last dance. I hope you and Derek can get past this. I loved the group hug last night that you jumped in. You had the greatest smile and I knew you were home again with all your friends. Please take a little time to reflect on what has happened. Then move on and be happy ! Happiness is what life is all about. Love you dearly. Happiness is what brings life and friends together.
