DWTS J.R. Martinez Picked As Grand Marshal of Tournament of Roses Parade

J.R. has been chosen as the Grand Marshal of the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade. Below is more from E Online.

The Iraq War vet, who was seriously burned when his Humvee hit a land mine during the war, is a perfect fit for this year’s “Just Imagine…” parade theme, said the Tournament of Roses Association.

Martinez says he’s grateful for the opportunity to share his message of “hope and possibility” and honor all fellow wounded military personnel with the big game’s coin toss.

Tournament of Roses president Rick Jackson called Martinez the perfect pick because of his “courage and dedication” to all Americans facing challenges. The Dancing With the Stars fan favorite is one of six contestants still competing on the reality competition.

Wow, what an honor for J.R. and so well deserved!!

ADDING: Below is J.R. talking about being picked the Grand Marshal….

SPOILERS!!! DWTS Season 13, Week 7 – The Results!

Well, another week, another bummer elimination.  :::sigh:::

David and Kym left the ballroom tonight and I’m afraid that was the unkindest cut.  Neither Hope nor Nancy deserves to make the semi-final based on ability, compared to David, and now at least one of them is going to make it there. But, that’s the name of the game and, like both Courtney and I worried, it’s not just about getting votes, but it’s what happens when you get relatively few votes. David had faded into the woodwork recently and that’s a more dangerous place than being last.

As a reminder, Nancy needed a little more than 10k votes more than David per million votes cast – not a huge number, all things considered. Since she was in the real bottom two, and was the low scorer, that meant that she and Tristan couldn’t clear any of the margins except David’s.

P.S. I had the hardest time picking between David and Nancy – and damn if those two weren’t the OFFICIAL bottom 2 (note to Macmanicas – that was a REAL bottom two, reign in the cocky).  But I picked wrong (again) and Courtney picked right – and we’re both depressed about it. 🙂

P.P.S. – Would someone please give Derek Hough a frakin’ Emmy already? Holy crap.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Bruno Tonioli Talks Of The Intensity On Dancing With The Stars At This Stage (Videos)

After the show last night, Bruno was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE. He enters the studio in a tank top with Dracula teeth as the “real him”. 😯 He takes a bite out of Jimmy and Pee Wee Herman. Bruno explains what Halloween is like in Italy. Jimmy also asks Bruno on Dancing With The Stars and the tension last week. Bruno explains how intense the competition is at this stage and how hard it is to see people go. He appreciates everyone’s efforts, but, they also should know that it’s only right for the best dancers to make it when they sign up. More below, but, Bruno goofs around more than anything wanting to play Dracula. Ok, so….

Are The Producers Of Dancing With The Stars Angry At Maksim Chmerkovskiy?

The big question on many of our minds: Are the producers of the show mad at Maks after what happened last week with his complaint on the judges on LIVE TV? As you saw for yourselves, Maks was clearly upset and looked angry in the rehearsals last night to the point Maks looked “abusive” to some people when he man handled Hope, but, is that really the case or do the producers just want to make it look that way? Both TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly are diving into this area today. More below and special thanks to Lori for helping out with this post!!! Let’s get Heidi’s take on this as well.

Below are Teddy Volynet’s thoughts after the show from TV Guide….

But the rehearsal footage struck a decidedly different note. “I was there for that whole rehearsal,” explained troop dancer Teddy Volynets, who is a student of Chmerkovskiy’s and stepped in to rehearse with Solo after Chmerkovskiy injured his toe. “There was a moment where it seemed a little rough, and it was due to the fact that when you come into a team situation, every single piece is just as important as the others. And if one piece isn’t working, you’re letting down the rest of the team. So that’s just more pressure on the pros and more pressure on the celebs. Some people are bound to crack a little bit and that’s bound to be recorded.”

Volynets said he got Solo to laugh and relax because he was there for such a short time. “I got to taste Maks’ life for three days. He’s been doing it since September. I was there having fun, but if I was in Maks’ shoes, I’d be exactly like him.”

For her part, Solo seems to accept that harsh comments and tough teaching go with the territory. “It’s the seventh week, we’re getting okay scores,” she said. “You wouldn’t want to see me if he wasn’t tough on me. I’d be like…I don’t know what I’d be like out there on the dance floor.”

Below are Tristan’s thoughts from Entertainment Weekly which I’m in total agreement with. What do you think?

During Monday’s episode, however, Chmerkovskiy had very little to say when he faced the judges and didn’t respond to any questions from reporters afterwards.

In the meantime, his decision to get physical with Solo during the rehearsal didn’t jibe well with at least one other pro. “That’s stuff you shouldn’t be doing,” said Nancy Grace’s partner Tristan McManus. “No matter whether you’ve been dancing for however long or just new to dancing, that shouldn’t be happening.”

That said, McManus said the packages seldom tell the full story. “Those packages are like a minute and a half…amongst the rest of us it’s not a continuous thing. They pulled it together tonight and they remember what it’s about. Hope herself pulled it together with Maks and they did great.”

Heidi’s Note: Teddy’s loyal, I’ll give him that much. And he may have a point that, for his part, he is only a short timer so he doesn’t have a lot invested, he can laugh and have fun with Hope. That explains HIS behavior…but not so much Maks. Listen, the producers can edit, edit, edit until the cows come home but what they have NO power to do is make Maks behave in a certain way towards Hope. That was not manufactured. It was awful to watch and I’d rather never see anything like it again. Ever. Were there parts where Maks wasn’t being an ass? Sure, I would bet there were. But this is one of those instances where “you reap what you sow” – Maks had his say last week. He took shots at the judges, he took shots at Derek, tried to deny all of it, then probably saw all of it on tape and was hopefully ashamed of it. Or not. Then, this week, the Producers had their say. Were they taking a shot at Maks for revenge? Who cares? Point is, if you can dish it out, you have to take it. I doubt they were angry at him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they reminded him who’s the boss with one simple edit. I would imagine that’s why we didn’t hear much from him after the show – not because they told him to shut up, but because he was pissed as hell. He got played. And everyone came out looking better than he did. That’s the funny thing about reality TV. You brag about boosting ratings, but you can expect to be the ratings booster again when you don’t want to be. That’s likely the real reason for that edit last night. 🙂

DWTS Season 13, Week 7 Interviews After The Dance Part 2 (Videos)

In part 2 of our interview posts, we have Carson Kressley with his thoughts on the show last night as well as some interviews with Access Hollywood and ET.

First up, Carson!! He says Ricki is the “real pro of the season” nailing it week after week. What’s more, she prevailed even through a painful injury last night. He says J.R. and Karina’s dance was a “little lackluster”. He thinks the contestants are feeling the wear and tear and getting fatigued. Carson also spoke of Rob and how he’s the “dark horse”. Rob just keeps getting better and better. Maks gave it all on the dance floor last night, but, was more subdued and on his best behavior off the dance floor. Carson thinks Maks and Hope will be ok tonight. On Nancy, he predicts her fan base will keep her on the show for another week. More below. He’s fun as always.

Below are the Access Hollywood interviews;

Rob and Cheryl are happy with their comeback last night and their improvement. Getting into character was fun. They cheer for Team Paso as Derek and Ricki pop in. Way cute!!

Ricki and Derek talk of the fun they are having and dancing through the pain. Derek loved dressing up for Halloween. It feels great to be in first, but, they don’t think they are the ones to beat when asked on it. They are humble as always. Be sure to listen to the end. Derek talks of the rehearsals for the Team Paso. It helped to have a female pro helping Ricki and Hope. It was good to have the break from their partners to get other advise. Derek says Hope excelled in a “team” environment.

DWTS Season 13, Week 7 Interviews After The Dance Part 1 (Videos)

Let’s get right to the interviews after Monday night’s dances with our favorite interviewer, George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet!! As always, George asks the couples some different questions. This week he dives into the “safety” factor.

First up, below is Ron and Cheryl! George tries to get Rob to admit he’s ready to be in the finals, but, Rob and Cheryl won’t admit to it. They hope they make it, but, they don’t want to jinx anything. On the safety factor, Cheryl totally trusts Rob. He hasn’t dropped her yet. They also talk of how happy they are with more fans and people rooting for them every week. At the end of the interview, George asks Rob on his sister’s divorce. Rob says it’s a difficult time for the family, but, they will support her.

Next up is Ricki and Derek! They are so proud of their dance and the Team Paso. On the safety factor, Ricki trusts Derek “implicitly” with her body and her life. Derek says he’ll always have her. On her injury, Ricki doesn’t plan to let it or anything else get in her way. They are so happy with their first place finish. Their faces say it all!

Maks and Hope look at George’s notes and scores. Hope is happy with them. Just like last night, Maks is unusually quiet through the interview. When George questions him on it, Maks said he has said enough in the last few weeks. He then remarks when he looks back on his life, he will look back happy on this time and that he did it his way. A very subdued Maks. I’m not sure what to think, but, this can’t be helping their situation?
