*but I think the best dancer was actually Gilles by a country mile. Nicole was extremely polished but she never looked effortless to me.

None of the 1st five winners-IMO could come close to the level of dancing from Jennifer and Nicole.
To be honest Jennifer Grey could be in both categories because of her age and challenges. She was truly incredible but Nicole just was amazing period.
*Honorable mention, Brooke & Krisi as both were incredible performers.
I give it to the ladies because in my opinion, they have to be better skill wise then the men because they are pretty much competing with the female pros. The men, on the other hand don’t have to worry about being as graceful, it’s more of a charm factor with them.-JMO

All I have to say is love how Shawn has no votes for best dancer!!! She was awful. At least to my eyes she was. Also my picks Nicole and Nicole. She brought danced with Derek that were amazing and still watch over and over again.

For favorite, I picked JR because he was freshest in my mind. I also really liked Apolo,Helio,Kristi,Shawn, Hines, and I liked Nicole, but she wasn’t one of my favorites. For the best I picked Nicole, but right after I clicked her name, I changed my mind to Apolo.

Kristi. I would say Nicole but personality plays a big factor in my book and hers didn’t click with me what so ever. I still like Kelly the original winner, true underdog. The first couple of season hold a special place in my heart even if they weren’t the best dancers cause the show wasn’t consumed with drama, story building, and endless themed weeks.

- My favorite dancer of all 13 seasons is without doubt Jennifer Grey. i loved the great partnership with Derek and the friendship and support that followed
- the best dancer i have ever saw on DWTS is Nicole Scherzinger …for so many reasons … her sense of rhythm, her musicality…her everything…she and Derek were a joy to watch and they created some of the best performances on DWTS, including one of my all time favorite dances -redemption Rumba and the best Foxtrot.
I also think Derek has been brilliant with different takes on the Paso Doble. But those 2 “non-ballroom” dances with Nicole-the sailor suit dance and the Fox Trot with the newspapers were just plain exhilarating.
The one celebrity dancer who will always stand out in my mind but did not win DWTS trophy was Mario Lopez. If there was anyone who deserved to win it was him. He is an excellent dancer, good looking and has a very nice personality. Look back at the videos of his dance routines with Karina and you will see what I mean.
Otherwise, I would pick Kristi Yamaguchi overall.
Bruce, that foxtrot wasn’t “non-ballroom” – not at all. It was perfection, though.
That’s probably my all time favorite dance – EVER.
I have to agree with Heidi. That foxtrot with Derek and Nicole has a “joy quotient” that is off the charts. I can’t watch it without smiling from ear to ear. I can’t think of one of Derek’s dances that I like better than that one either. His waltz with Joanna Krupa to “Hallelujah” comes close. I also loved his Lambada with Joanna (and Len’s comment about “that flapping thing”) Oh well. Obviously I could go on and on. But I won’t. Or Heidi will be reminding me that this is not a Derek site – but I know where one is!! LOL
Heidi, ditto on Nicole’s Foxtrot. I just loved Nicole…I was telling someone that it was awesome how kooky she and Derek were when so many ” including myself ” expected her to just to be some kinda… I dont know hooker?
And I just loved watching her because she had the WHOLE package the body, the technique, the ease, and she was hot which didn’t hurt her. 
There were so many great dances I loved that season…Nicole’s Foxtrot, A. Tango, Jive, Evan’s A. Tango, Tango, Paso Doble, Quickstep, and Foxtrot, Erin’s Samba, V. Waltz, A. Tango and my all time favorite Quickstep…when she and Maks did ” Dancin’ Fool “. Loved that. 
Ofcourse, none of those can hold a candle to Kate’s Paso.
I know I’m in the minority on Nicole but her dancing to me almost every time looked like a “routine” and what I love the most is when dancing feels genuine and you forget these people had to practice really hard to prepare it.
Her Foxtrot was definitely one of the least “routine-y” dances but the package on that week with Nicole saying she hates it when people call her a dancer was a bit borderline dislike for me so I couldn’t enjoy the dance as much as I should have. I mean, come on! Maybe you’re not a dancer when compared to the pros but when compared to many other contestants, hell, you are a world champion! It’s all about perspective.
Nicole was the best by a mile. Kristi was good too but she never fully let go. She lacked the joy that Nicole could give like her quickstep and foxtrot. As well as the sensual second rumba. Her dances were more diverse too. It seemed like Mark did the same spin moves with her so often. Impressive but like Jennifer and her extensions, used a lot. Jennifer’s balance move for her insta rumba was one of the coolest moves I ever saw though.

2 – Yes #June! Even not winning, Mario Lopez was the best dancer I’ve seen in DWTS. And the level and innovation of Karina’s choreography for him? Phenomenal. We can not change destiny, so, I choose Nicole Scherzinger as the best dancer.
Although not my favorite Nicole was the best. Shes the closest thing to a professional dancer weve seen on the star side so far. Kristi is my personal favorite, she was a joy to watch everyweek.
I started watching the show in Season 4, but from rewatching – i really like Kelly Monaco – altought J.R. has to be my personal favorite
Kristi easily is the best dancer of all. She has the hightest average of all dances, as well as the highest first wk score – 27 ! No one has ever matched that, not only that – her lowest score was a 26, and apart from Jenifer Grey, she is the only person to get 3 perfect scores in the same wk (finale). i never liked Nicole.
I think she was as tired of being insulted as I was hearing her being insulted, Sasa. Really, every time someone calls her a “professional dancer” they made it sound like she didn’t have to work for any of it and it came easy for her. That pissed me off, I would imagine it had the same effect on her. People who do that ignore not only natural talent but also hard work – by implication. Whether they intend to or not. She’s less “professional dancer” than Mya and about the same as Mel B, Sabrina and a few others – she just had more natural talent. Plus she had Derek.
The only reason Kristi had a higher average (if she actually did) is because the judges were playing the game of making it an actual horse race in Nicole’s season. In Kristie’s season they hadn’t really started the game playing with the scores yet. And having recently re-watched the entire season, I was not really as impressed with Kristi as I remember being at the time. There was a sameness to a lot of her dances. She was by far the best of that season, though – but I think she benefited from the judges shock over losing Sabrina early the season before.
It dosnt matter if you havent had ballroom expireince before, if you at leastvhad some dance expirience, youre already miles ahead from the rest
Season 5 – Sabrina claimed hw she only had expirience in hip hop and it wasnt going to benefit her, yet she scored a 30 in week4
Season 9- Mya claimed how her chreographyessons werent oing to hel her at all, and we saw what hppened, final 2
Season 10- Nicole tried to convince eveveryone of the same
Season 11- Jenifer claimed how her mambo lessons for dirty dancing were long ago- ended winning
Bottom line- any dance epirience- even hip hop is very bemeficial, and youre already accostumed to the intense workout and injuries sustained by it, so im tired of them claiming how they came into the competition without any benefit

You know I personally dislike that any of the huge ringers were a part of the show. And I also understand it’s a daunting position to be in because it makes it difficult for you to say how hard learning is without sounding whiney.
But when you’re already put in the position and you see your co-contestants struggle big time, I think the best solution is just to do your thing and show how hard you are working by focus and dedication, not by saying “I’m not a dancer” and “I just want it to be good” while you are getting 9s and 10s every week.
I guess I can understand that she got frustrated but it didn’t make it much better for me.
Id hardly consider a self taught tap dancer a more of professional dancer than someone who minored in dance and has and continues to works with choreographers on a regular basis. The rountines the PCDs performed trumped anything any of the other pop stars (whos appeared on dwts) has done. Her attitude was bitter especially hen she tried to sell us that Evan and Erin have had more dance experience than.
Looking at both polls makes you wonder how the hell Brooke and Donny (and Kelly but she was season 1 so I think she is very far in people’s minds) won.
Brooke right now has 7 votes for favorite and 9 for best.
Donny now has 17 votes for favorite and 4 for best.
Donny at least breaks 20 votes all together, poor Brooke.
Kelly has 8+6.
Everyone has advantages, marissa. Donny took actual ballroom lessons before the show and has a massive female middle aged fanbase. That’s a bigger advantage than any nicole or Sabrina had. EVERYONE has advantages – which is why whining about previous dance training is so silly. You think Hines and Kirstie didn’t have advantages over others on their seasons?? They sure did. You think JR didn’t have an advantage over Chynna?? I can name two – massive media exposure and recent television. Rob’s advantage? The kardashian fanbase. Ricki’s advantage was an existing fanbase as the same age as her. Hope even had an advantage of being in fantastic physical shape. The difference between her and others with advantages was that she can’t dance.
Well, sasa, I don’t think we would have heard that from her if she weren’t being attacked for being a trained dancer every single week, not just from the media and fans but from maks, Erin, louis and even Mark – all were acting like jealous, petulant bitches. It was awful – and the truth about Maks is out now. He is like that.
Unfortunately, yeti, you saying that doesn’t make it true. Mya was teaching dance when she started the show. Nicole was a Pussycat doll. I minored in psychology – that does not make me a trained psychologist.
Evan and Erin did also have training in dance – that is a fact. It’s also a fact that Erin was getting much more media exposure and that Evan’s huge advantage was being fresh off the Olympics. I think it’s very convenient, and narrow minded, when people focus on dance training and ignore things like fanbase and exposure – perhaps because in that instance they lost. But that doesn’t make those advantages less true. It just means Nicole was better. And she certainly had a better pro.
May was more than just a tap dancer. She was a dancer turned musician. I do not know what you saw but pcd is not difficult dancing. She also danced the least in the group.
Kristi’s dances do have a sameness to them which is what meant earlier too. Her scores are before the show score management. If I compare Kristi ‘s jives to what Jennifer did week 2, Jennifer is more impressive. Or Mya’s samba to Kristi. Kristi had advantages too that Mya did not have like working with partners and lifts. the scores themselves do not say she is the best. Especially from her season which had absolutely no competition. Season 10 was a close season and for Nicole and Evan to produce such great dances. If Kristi competed against Nicole or Mel or Mya head to head, I bet her scores would. It be as high. That does not mean Kristi was bad. But just on scores alone, that is faulty. Besides, remember Kristi competed after the press went on after Mel lost that a female celeb cannot win. Funny after Kristi, Shawn and Brooke, they went on how it is easier for female celebs, lol.
Brooke might not have a lot of votes here. Same with Donny but they were popular. Both created memorable dances but were popular enough during their seasons and that is what matters.
Oops. Meant Mya at the beginning and meant Nicole’s dancing for pcd is not difficult. Also meant Kristi’s scores would not be as high if she was competing against Mel, Nicole or Mya head to head.
@Marissa – Jennifer may have had mambo lessons for Dirty Dancing, but that was in 1987! She also had a ton of injuries to overcome as well.
Her training for Dirty Dancing hardly qualifies as having an edge over the other contestants because it was sooooo long ago.
Not to mention, Jennifer was 50 years old with screws in her neck. And required at least one surgery after DWTS was over. An advantage in terms of dancing? Bullshit. Fanbase, on the other hand – there she probably had an advantage. But we have a few of those every season.
