Jenny McCarthy Says Dancing With The Stars Better Talk The Walk Or Walk The Talk
Last summer, it was reported that the producers of Dancing With The Stars were looking for “a-List” celebrities to dance on the show instead of “gimmicky” d-list stars. Yesterday, Jenny McCarthy spoke out about it to The Hollywood Reporter when she commented about the possibility of doing reality television and Dancing With The Stars…
….when asked about the chances of ever seeing her on Dancing With the Stars, McCarthy seemed amused but firm.
“They ask me every year, and I just can’t do it,” she says. “I tell them why: You guys keep saying every year you’re going to get A-List people and then it’s the girl that was with George Clooney… They better talk the walk or walk the talk — whatever that saying is.”
Personally, I thought Jenny sounded a little arrogant, but, oh how she’d make a hot partner for Derek Hough with her beautiful matching blonde hair and steel blue eyes? Also, wasn’t Kirstie Alley an “a-lister”? David Arquette could be considered an “a-lister” too, couldn’t he? Penny for your thoughts.

I would not call Kirstie an A lister. She fits the was a real celeb of the past. Kirstie, Ricki, Jennifer, and Toni Braxton fit the usual bill IMO. Real celebs who were big at one time. Legit celebs IMO and Jenny McCarthy fits that category for me. I would love to see her cousin Melissa of Bridesmaid fame on the show too.no think her comments might have more to do with reality celebs or those related to famous people like Elisabetta.
I do think David is A list. But sadly a legit star from a known Hollywood family lost out to a Kardashian. More a sad reflection of our popular culture but that is another topic.
The show has hit A list celebs though. Hines, Emmitt, Jerry, Kurt and Kristi.List goes on.
Pushed submit before I finished. The show gets a list athletes.
Earth to Jenny, you ain’t an A lister, and you never been an a lister.
I used to like Jenny, but methinks she’s gotten a bit too big for her britches. Does she seriously consider herself “A-list”? I would say MAYBE mid-B list, tops. Is she even really doing anything right now, besides being a sloppy drunk on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve? If she’s demanding A-list celebs be part of the cast in order for her to join, it’s probably out of pure insecurity: she knows her own star is falling and doesn’t want to be lumped-in with a bunch of other has-beens. But what’s kind of funny to me is that the show actually has the potential to boost the waning careers of some of the “has-beens”…so Jenny might actually benefit from doing the show. And yeah, Jenny, the phrase is actually “You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?” 😛
I think she’ll end up on the show soon. Remember Kendra said she would never do the show but she did it.
B4 I post I’ll qualify with I don’t dislike Jenny and she is a lot like Kirstie(in your face kinda broad)which can be refreshing for a while….but an A-lister-Not. An A-lister would be a Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt, George Clooney or from TV maybe Mark Harmon, Kyra Sedgewick….and there is no chance any of them will be on DWTS.
I think maybe she meant people who are just related to famous people or the many reality stars with no reason to be on like Kate Gosselin, the situation and like that. JM is famous for just opening her mouth and letting anything come out and she doesn’t care so I don’t think she meant it quite the way it sounded and yes, it did sound arrogant coming from her/
I agree with Jenny one her thoughts about Elisabetta Who? I still don’t know why she was able to snag a spot on the cast of DWTS. But that may have paved the way for Jenny to be cast as the girl that was with Jim Carrey.
I mean seriously, I can’t think of one movie that she has done. Jenny is maybe a B or C lister herself.
Hmm…
WAY TO GO JENNY!!!
True, I’m not sure if she’s “A-List” although now days, people are saying Snooki is A list which I’m sure drives Whoopi Goldberg up a tree (I don’t know what that means either, just insert a drum sound). I actually am happy with how Jenny handled herself because it’s true: DWTS has for the last couple of seasons promised a bigger, better cast and to me in my own personal biased opinion, they keep fizzling. I had to take time off from the show last season despite Ricki Lake (Someone who I’ve been wanting since Season 6) competing. It got to a point where I was continually frustrated that I found it a bit unhealthy to lash out at a show meanwhile there were much more important things going on in the world.
Now, I do want DWTS to wow me again, and if they get Jenny, I’d be pleased, but maybe those words from her will help kick DWTS back into getting more exciting names (at least exciting to me, anyway)
Now I am pretty sure we’ll never get Jolie, Clooney or Paltrow, but to be honest, I don’t know if that would “Drive up ratings”. DWTS, last I checked, was doing fine in the ratings. Has that changed? I’ve been extremely out of the loop.
What would make me happy or motivated to “For sure” tune in in March? To be honest, I’m not even sure. As much as I’ve always wanted Carmen Electra and Giada DeLaurentiis, I know for most other people, it would be a snooze fest. Bring me back, DWTS!!!
Jenny probably does want a better cast and not clumped with no names but Jenny would benefit from participating on dwts. It would not surprise me if she is on the show. She fits the type who could use a career boost and she seems friends with some of the pros. Jenny, if she does the sow, better be ready not to win. I do not think her personality will make her popular with viewers.
The show has had some A listers and some B- listers(has beens and child actors/singers fall in this catagory since they were once A listers and a good percent of the child stars wind up leaving the business for a little bit for college, ie tia and tamera mowery(sister sister).)
And I think McCartney needs to do some research some people on the show, like Elisabetta and Giles, are A listers just not in the USA. Elisabetta is a huge actress in Italy and was in numerous movies and a few Television shows in Italy. Same with Giles he was huge in his own country(France if I’m not mistaken.) and then became big in the USA when he did “Sex and the City”. plus Kirstie alley, David Arquette, Nicole Scherzinger(sp?), and a few others would qualify as A listers. And(If this is mean I apologize now), but what exactly has McCartney done lately to make herself an A lister?
While I think Jenny is gorgeous and would probably do great on the show. She would probably have an unfair advantage because her sister is Jo Jo McCarthy who is one of the makeup artists on the show and is a good freind of Cheryl Burke. She would bring a big fan base and probably stay a long time. If she would dod the show would rather see her paired with Tony to give him a better chance to finally get back to the finals or clodse to the finals.
Well, Steven, lots of people thought that Denise Richards would be great and she totally wasn’t – I wouldn’t be so sure about Jenny. Not to mention that Tony had Audrina and Chynna recently and had early flameouts with both, relative to how well they danced – and both aren’t any closer to A list than Jenny is. 🙂 She thinks very highly of herself, for sure – I do NOT agree that she would bring a big fan base. Tony also had Melissa in season 8 and made it to the finals. He’s doing okay – I doubt very much that the show will be just giving him someone to get him closer to the finals. Clearly, there’s more to it than just his partner.
Seems like the show does better getting A list athletes than entertainment folks. I personally consider reality folks to be D- list. IMO a true A list entertainer would not have time or desire to be on the show. Guess it all depends on your description.
Did I mention the need for “Cheesecake”? Please and thank you in advance.
We’re getting there rebecca – I have to feed courtney LOTS of wine first. 😉
Rebecca- I think the reason they get better A list athletes is because of the “off seasons” the NFL only plays for so many months(with training and pre season included) so they can do a season, same with basketball. Entertainers don’t have a set “season” so they may not have as much leway to do the show in terms of schedules.
Makes sense and probably the case. A listers are not free to devote to the show’s schedule like a retired athlete or athlete during an off season. The show should do a holiday special like SCD or a results show special where maybe a bigger name star could dance. Just one dance they learned and no voting involved. Less commitment and no worries of being voted off before a reality star too, lol. They could learn that one dance they want to learn.
For me, DWTS is already an A-list Show w/ 20M viewers!! =) For me, it will be an honor to be invited & to be part of the cast..
Famous or non-famous stars could benefit(s) (in terms of fun, facing&overcoming their fears, boosting their career, for their health since it’s a form of exercise, or doing it for their charity, etc.) if they will sign-up for the show, IMO. cheers!!
Jenny McCarthy is a less famous version of Pamela Anderson, am I right?
@Cameron: Yes and no. Jenny is an actress/model/spokesperson for autistic children and operates a charity of something/ex of Jim Carrey/one of the original stars of Mtv while Pam is just famous for Playboy/Home Improvement/Baywatch/”Sacked” (yes she had a sitcom….wasn’t too bad)/DWTS/some kind of charity work/ and her marriages.
Saying that, Pam is more famous of the two because more media attention.
Sorry just want to coorect myself. Pam’s sitcom was called “Stacked” and was on Fox…not “Sacked”.
DWTS will probably never be able to get true A-Listers on the show. Why on earth would the likes of Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, et al want to put themselves in the position they would be in on a show like DWTS?! Where would they find the time to put into the show, do the hard work necessary to prepare 1, 2 or 3 dances each week, open themselves up to the snark of the judges and fans, expose themselves to ridicule if they can’t dance or have a bad performance and when they get eliminated by the voting fans, hurt themselves (which could cost them other jobs), etc. And how much would the show have to pay to have 2 or 3 A-Listers on each season, and would A-Listers expect and/or be given ‘special treatment’ by the show? They might get an A-Lister or 2 who has a love for dance or a special reason for doing the show (e.g., Kirstie Alley); otherwise I think it’ll be a real uphill battle to get A-Listers on the show.
IMO, when celebs like Jenny McCarthy say stuff like that, it sounds like they just don’t want to take on the challenge and hard work that the show requires. Being on DWTS has made a lot of ‘has-beens’ incredibly relevant again in today’s pop culture … plus if you take advantage of all that ‘good will’ you can gain from the show, you can open up a lot of opportunities for yourself.
With that said, I personally would love to see Jenny do DWTS because I think she would be incredibly funny and look good in the costumes. But I wouldn’t pair her up with Derek, Vogue… That’s too much good looking blondness for me! LOL! Give her to Tristan… lol.
The problem with getting current and relevant A-Listers, as well, is that A-Listers still tend to have very busy careers because that’s what makes them A-List… they make the most money for their movie companies, record companies, or TV studios. Past A-Listers (i.e. Jen Grey, Ralph Macchio, Kirstie Alley, David Arquette) are more willing to do the show because they probably have the time and they want the publicity. With A-list athletes, they have their season, then they have time off until they have to get ready for their next season. So it makes sense that the show can cast popular current and relevant athletes than they can entertainers.
With those comments it sounds like she can’t dance and is making excuses. The athletes on this show are far more A list than Jenny Who formerly with Jim Carrey.
True A-listers would be the death of the show – Consider Brad or George dancing against the typical DWTS cast member. they wouldn’t stand a chance against those fanbases. They ONLY way it would work would be if the entire cast were super A list.
Personally, I don’t think the producers want a true A list for many of the seasons Sandra mentions (special treatment, high salaries, etc).
It’s getting almost to the point that we watch DWTS for the pro’s and not the celeb. How many will admit they watched Derek more than Ricki dancing last season? 😀 Of course, that explains why celebs want certain pro’s.
Who the hell is Jenny McCarthy?? Oh yeah, the girl that was with Jim Carey.
@Winter
I’ve kind of wondered about that. One one hand, I think it would be a total fresh start to see brand spanking new pros dance with celebrities. Not that I’m tired of the old pros but we have several who are starting to become celebs in their own right. But the other part of me says that even if DWTS pulled that (doubtful), many “fanbases” would stop watching it. Nothing I can prove though.
I think thats very arrogant. And offensive to Elisabetta! She’s not an a-lister! I have never heard of her. Bet she can’t dance or she’d say “sure i’ll go the show!”
I will give Jenny this: She is more famous than Isabella in the States.
[…] she was seen with Jenny McCarthy at a boxing match in L.A. this week. As you might remember, Jenny was critical recently with the producers of Dancing With The Stars and their D-lister “talk the walk or […]
I am a little late to this convo but I gotta say, Jenny needs to look to her cousin Melissa McCarthy, who is A-list. Jenny is NOT!! DWTS cannot get all A-listers…it has to be divided up. What I do agree with her about is the “stars” who were married to or dating real stars….rediculous.
