As announced today on “Good Morning America,” this season’s spectacular new cast of celebrities for “Dancing with the Stars” will be announced live from the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28 exclusively during “Good Morning America” (7:00-9:00 a.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The major announcement returns to “GMA” in a morning that will be packed with big surprises.

Iiiinteresting. If memory serves, this is the first time since season 9 that they haven’t revealed the cast during The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. Crap, I better go request a half-day off of work that morning…
…anyone else find it funny that the blonde guy ran out all excited when Robin mentioned announcing the cast? It makes me wonder if he was super excited because he was a part of it

I almost just had a heart attack, thinking I would be at work and not get to watch it. THEN I realized I’ll be on vacation in the great Smoky Mountains that week! Yay for small victories
Woot!!! I’ll actually be able to see it live! (when it’s announced on The B show, since I live in Canada and have satellite TV, thanks to the Gov’t, I get the Canadian feed of the show which doesn’t have the ‘press conference’ because up here, DWTS plays on CTV while The B plays on Global, so they don’t show it. Just more commercials. *RME*)

I’ll get that morning off from work for sure too. Like in the last several seasons, I plan to handle the twitter accounts as Heidi or Court blog it all LIVE. So exciting.
Wow no press confrence? Oh well I’ll miss that part – unless they’re doing it in some form on GMA – but I won’t miss The Bachelor, i’d rather watch the goofy GMA crew anyday.
Interesting notation also Courtney, actually when I heard Robin going on about how big the stars are and how exciting it’s going to be I’d be lieing if I said I didn’t think for a moment she was in the cast and giving herself a lil pre-season pep-talk. 
Sam looked suspicious too but then again all them peeps at GMA be cray in the words of Rob’s sister Khloe Kardashian/Simpson/whatever.

I dunno what to think… Well, hope there’s no double elimination. And want to salsa and lambada back AND new dances (merengue, american smooth, for example)…

So, what can we expect?
I don’t think she means big as in number of celebs in the cast. Just…big.
@carlos – I agree with Zach – I don’t think she means “biggest” as in the number of couples. I think she means the caliber of celebs…which is debatable, considering they promised “bigger stars” last season and people still complained
And you might be out of luck asking that they don’t repeat songs, Carlos – if last season was any indicator, it could be how things are from now on.
So I was just emailing my lovely mother to tell her about the cast announcement, and mentioned in passing that the GMA crew was acting especially coy and that we think one of them might be part of the cast. She automatically came back with “Is it Sam Champion?” and I asked why she thought that…apparently, Robin made a reference not too long ago about Sam being a good dancer. My mom’s a regular GMA viewer, and the fact that this stuck out to her is very interesting.
Good news that it will be announced on GMA…Since I’ve never watched the Bachelor, and never intend to, I usually just wait til the PDWTS crew posts the news. Now I might get to see it live. But in case I don’t, I know I can always come here to find out.
I think Robin Roberts would be a great contestant.

I don’t mind about “bigger stars”… I’d like to see more enjoyable stars, like Carson. I didn’t knor who was him before DwtS. He was the last to be added last season and was the most fun to watch. Same to me with Ty and Niecy…
I’m not really going for a Kardashian, for example. Or someone controversial… but that’s me…
I like to watch good dances, creative-good-not-recycled choreography, fun rehearsals and personality. I don’t like all that drama… to me, it’s waste of time.
I remeber when Lacey and Kyle were there the day after their season’s finale they were trying to get George to do the show (but saying that George isn’t that popular compaared to Robin and Sam lately). Possibility perhaps? It could be Robin but I think people would say she has too big a fan base already. I won’t rule Sam out but idk if he would be ablw to do the show since GMA sends him everywhere when something happens weatherwise.
Personally, I hope its Lara Spencer (the blonde woman).
If it is indeed Robin or Sam who do you think they would be paired with? i think Maks and Robin would be cool to watch and if its Sam I can see him partnered with Anna or Lacet (preferaby Anna)

I missed any rumors about that.
sukra, I’ve been working on the assumption for a while now that at some point Derek will hang it up and do something else. The only thing I have to go on is what I know about his management, what he’s done in the past, and what he says he wants to do – which really doesn’t mean all that much. I just think at some point he’s going to realize that he can’t do EVERYTHING and he’s going to have to choose. And at some point, DWTS will lose.
I think Derek loves DWTS mostly because he loves the live audience reaction and interacting with them as well. There’s nothing like the energy at the live shows or tour. I think he’s bound for Broadway at some point. For right now, I hope he does return. His charisma, energy and creativity have set a standard for the show. Almost like a stamp-lol

Sad day for me and I imagine many others when the phenomenal uber-talented Derek decides to move on from the show.
I have a feeling that whn Derek leaves KIKI becomes a competing pro. Not a bad trade though.
We don’t actually know how good of a trade it will be until he has a shot with a celebrity. Being a great dancer obviously isn’t enough.
I’m more curious to see who they give to Tristan and, if someone good, how he will be as a choreographer. He didn’t really have the opportunity to get really creative with Nancy.
I kinda thought Nancy’s jive was his most creative dance. I think Nancy’s best dance still was the monty python one. It was pretty creative i thought.
I’d like to thank the super amazing lifesaving genuis who decided to reveal the cast on GMA instead of The Bachelor! I really really hated having to sit through it. Too painful. Big Sigh of relief.
Hey, if you have a bottle of wine and some friends who also watch, it’s a great show to really make fun of.

I think Robin Roberts would make a great contestant, but i wonder if she’d be dq’d because she’s had a couple of ballroom lessons with Maks (I think it was Maks)? And would she go on and on about how BIG the news is, how BIG the celebs are, if she were talking about herself? if someone from GMA, then my bet is on Sam.

i’ll take all comers, really. Even though I b**tch about the ones i THINK are going to suck (or were a sucky choice for the show, IMHO), be surprised by their humanity and cheer for them in the end.
and a big Thank You to TPTB for switching the announce venue back to GMA (or anywhere else for that matter). I hope that harkens to there being no Bach/Ette contestants this season.
