DWTS Tony Dovolani, Val Chmerkovskiy, and Maks Chmerkovskiy Attend Viennese Opera Ball Gala
Pictured above is Tony Dovolani, Val Chmerkovskiy, and Maks Chmerkovskiy! They attended the 57th annual Viennese Opera ball gala at The Waldorf Astoria on February 3rd in New York City. Is it just me, or does Maks look awfully thin!
Okay, y’all are gonna laugh or something at me, but… first off, I think that Maks’ longer hair makes his face seem more… I’d say delicate, but it’s still very masculine face, which in turn makes him look thin (and younger too, I find). And the second thing is… when I met him last August, I was struck by the fact that he wasn’t overpoweringly large, the way he appears on DWTS. Nicely muscled and firm, yes definitely, but not large, y’know? Made me wonder if the smaller fellows like Mark and Derek and Louis are smaller than I think they are in my mind’s eye. *LOL*
But mostly, I think it’s the hair.
I think it’s the hair making Maks look smaller and leaner too somehow. At first I wasn’t sure I liked Maks new hair, but, I’m really liking it now. Evaine, it does make him look “delicate” or “softer”. I like that too. Love your post.
And Margaret, I have to say…Tony is the one looking really thin …almost too much so now.
Great photo of 3 great looking guys & has started my Monday off happily. Maks’ longer hair has grown on me. I think it does make him look younger. But seriously he does look leaner. I mean look at his legs in that tux. Still wondering why he is growing his hair out. Must be something special on the horizon.
Maksim’s hair reminds me of the season 2-5 Maksim. the longer hair, and the younger look. Wonder why he’s growing it out?
It’s funny how media don’t usually talks about male celebs’ weight. I just read some articles saying Cheryl shows a fuller figure in Vegas and so on. I do have to say though, Tony’s wife is gorgeous http://twitpic.com/8fja39
The guys look great. Reminds me of those movies during the early to mid-1800s era when it was common for society to go to elegant balls.

Maks hair looks great. I like it.
Derek isn’t a huge guy, Evaine…but he’s not what I would call small in terms of height. He was pretty slim when I saw him, though. Mark is two inches shorter than Derek, and Louis is an inch shorter than Mark (if I’m remembering Louis’ height correctly).
Oh yes, I know all that.
But when I see Derek standing next to Maks and the height difference and translate that to how tall Maks actually is… then Derek, (and Mark and Louis) are all going to be shorter in RL than in my mind’s eye. 
Just seconding the comments about Maks’s hairstyle. I was actually pleasantly surprised, as it makes him look less “rough around the edges”, more approachable. Besides, it’s the ideal length for a girl to run her fingers through… *sigh* His character may not be quite my cup of tea, but I do know a handsome man when I see one.
This photo doesn’t look proportional because Derek is a tad bit taller than Val and Val and Tony look to be the same height in the photo. I know both Tony and Maks are over 6 feet tall and Derek/Val are around 5’10″. Evaine, the camera does add 10 lbs….. lol
. They look bigger on TV, but in real life probably look just right… =)

The few hundred other women in the vicinity agreed. I was nearly crushed in the stampede. 
We forget that they’re dancers. They’re not BIG no matter how tall they are or seem to be. I’ve met Lacey and she is very little. I can’t imaging how little Julianne and Karina are.

I think the new hair makes Maks look younger – he doesn’t look 32 with the new hairstyle – I would never guess he’s 6 years older than Val just based on that picture. He may have chosen to wear his hair further down in his face to cover up what looks like a slightly receding hairline, but I’ve never minded his hairline (I think he looks so sophisticated when he wears his hair slicked back). Also, I don’t know for sure, but Maks may be a little thinner than usual. I read that he was shooting a cover for a men’s health/exercise magazine in January, and that he was getting in ‘special’ shape for that magazine shoot, so he may have lost a little weight with the extra workouts.
Oh, I feel like I”m being very contrary all over the place today but….I don’t believe that Maks has a receding hairline, even a slight one. Lord knows I’m not a fan, but that’s one thing I wouldn’t lay on him.
People used to say that about David Duchovny all the time….back when he was on X Files. Yet here, years later, his hair line is still in the same place. High forehead.
I have to say…I think Maks’ hairstyle is slowly but surely growing on me. He has such beautiful hair to begin with, what with it being dark, thick, and wavy like it naturally is. As far as his weight goes, he’s a long person. He’s got long arms and legs and a long torso so naturally his weight gets proportioned as such.
Maybe he’s just going for a different style after wearing it the same exact way for the past God knows how long. I just hope that’s as long as he lets it go, we don’t need it to be as long as it was when he first joined DWTS.
