How do you think the shuffling of couples worked? If Gladys was the last minute signer and Tristan already knew he was in this season, who do you think he had before? Was it Maria and then Maks was flown in? Maybe Derek originally had Melissa and then he was switched to Maria who was originally with Tristan? (that’s if Gladys asked for Tristan) I think I made that sound more complicated than it should be!
I think Melissa will “handle” Maks very well. She will take no guff and I think she will actually talk some sense into him if need be. She is a very tough cookie! (read her book)
Looking forward to another great season. I love this entire cast and can’t wait to see them dance. I agree with everyone that Jaleel is one to watch. I am a huge Martina fan and hope she does well – she’s another tough cookie and as strong willed as Tony. should be an interesting match up. Sherri will be a lot like Niecy Nash, I think. Lots of fun with enough dance moves in her repertoir to keep her around for a while at least. And she is fearless – a big advantage in this competition. Maria did look a little stiff, but hopefully that’s just nerves. I’m hoping for the kinder gentler Maks back this season – fingers crossed that Melissa can bring that out in him, she sure isn’t going to take any crap from him that’s for certain.
Interesting to see how the new Pros will do with their second shot at this. Peta definitely has to be happy compared to last year, as does Val. Tristan, I think drew even, although Gladys is much more of an icon than Nancy will ever be. No slight against Nancy, of course. I enjoyed her stint with Tristan last season. But seemingly the same type of partner age wise and ability wise, me thinks. would love to eat crow on this one

My gut reaction, after “meeting” most of the new cast, the gal celebs better bring their A game because the guy group has some serious contenders.
Whew, now that this milestone has bee reached, I can’t wait for the first rehearsal videos to come out. Thank the gods we have Voguerista on the case!
so, who’s the ringer this season? no one can seriously claim that Derek has the ringer this round! but i’m sure there will be many who do LOL because we’ll learn that she took ballet lessons when she was 4 and did a belly dancing segment for Extra!

I am so excited that Gladys Knight will be on…just love her..I know she’s not a spring chicken anymore,but might surprise us.
Agree with most of you that Jaleel White will be a force. Personality plus. If he can also dance, look out.
Melissa Gilbert will probably be able to handle Maks, which doesn’t seem to be that difficult..just shut up and let him teach you. Hope she’s not another Denise Richardson with 2 left feet.
All in all it looks like a fun group. Can’t wait to see them dance.
With Melissa’s recent back surgery and rehab, and being a bit older, I hope she’ll be able to get through as long and as far as her dancing talent will take her. Back problems are no joke-I speak from personal experience. I’ll tune in for the first show to see if the dancing shows promise, but so far the list of celebs doesn’t really motivate me to watch the entire season. Hopefully, the dancing will be good so I’ll be motivated to watch the whole season. Maybe Sherri, Jaleel and William will turn out to be good dancers.
Also, I hope the so-called “tough” women celebs who people have referred to in comments above will be smart enough to check their toughness at the door, listen to and trust their partners and do what they’re asked – that’s the recipe for success on DWTS. Too much intervention by the celeb never bodes well for the couple. The pro dancers have a lot of professional pride and don’t want to let their celeb partner down, so hopefully the celeb will trust the pros best intentions, dance expertise and DWTS experience, listen and just dance.
There are some strong personalities in this cast. I have a feeling it won’t be long before we see Melissa and Maks going head to head this season. YAWN! No wonder Val says he has the best partner….
And Gladys Knight, Wow, just Wow. I think it speaks volumes that Tristan is her partner. Jaleel is Awesome. Martina is competitive, but she is paired with Tony who never seems to stick around for long, so we shall see. I have already forgotten about the football player and Gavin. I wish Derek was paired with Melissa, I think they would have been great together. Not sure about Maria just yet, she seemed kind of silly.
I actually like this cast. I’ve never heard of the Disney kid, but most of the others have at least some name recognition and several actually do qualify as stars, which is a first for the cast in a long while. As for Melissa Gilbert, I think I remember reading in her book that she took some dance (ballet?) classes as a kid. But with the schedule she had back then, she certainly wouldn’t have trained hours a week, so no ringer there. I like Maks, but I’m not sure that that’s a great match up. But better Maks than Tony, who I also like, but who doesn’t seem to be able to capitalize on his partner’s strengths and camouflage their weaknesses as well as the rest of the pros can.
I think Derek and Melissa could have been a winning combo if her back holds up. But I think she wanted Maks and the show wants Maks to stop mouthing off so decided to give him a fan-base ringer. If she can dance at all, I predict they will be in the finals, at least.Without even seeing the first dance, I think Jaleel will be in the finals. With the rest, have to wait and see…..

If Melissa had been with Derek, the back issues would “nothing serious” and her ballet training as a kid would make her a ringer. Just sayin’.
Re comment #12 – Yup just like Jennifer Grey, Melissa Gilbert is a 45-50 year old woman with a back/neck injury with a bit of dance training as a kid and therefore a ringer! If the celeb was considered a ringer last time, she damn well better be called a ringer this time too! Have my doubts though, cuz she doesn’t have Derek as a partner!
So true, Heidi! Plus, Melissa didn’t seem to concerned with her back when he came out and dipped her lol.
I can’t wait for the season to start. I think it’s a pretty good cast with a lot of interesting personalities. The matches look quite good on paper, in my opinion… I hope that continues into training and the live dances. I am really excited to see Jaleel and Kim, as well as Jack and Anna (that will be hot a couple!). Marie & Derek will be fun to watch, and I think Gladys and Tristan will be quite classy. I think/hope Melissa will teach Maks as much as she teaches her. I think this partnership has the possibility to bring out the best in Maks (, which I really would like to see after we saw such a bad match last year where Maks and Hope brought the worst out in each other. Maks has definitely been rewarded for his bad behaviour because even if she can’t dance she’s a fan-base ringer, as is Gladys Knight.
The way Maks talks to women gives me a knot in my stomach. I love the cast. I have a feeling there’s going to be some good dancers this season! I’m jazzed. Maria seemed a bit physically awkward. I hope that was just nerves or that I’m wrong. Off topic–did anybody record the very very hilarous backstage bit of Cheryl and Derek imitating Angelina’s ridiculous posturing? I howled.
Hmm… Team Menough? Team Menounough? What could Maria/Derek’s team name be? DWTS 14 here we go!!

I just had the biggest burst of laugh with that one!!! LOL.
Look at it this way…Derek has a young beautiful partner. She’s not 50, brokeback, or fat. They should do well, since he’s such a wonderful teacher and choreographer.
MadMaks has the older ,broken partner this time around. Yes, she’s well known, but I hardly think she’s a reward. The last thing DWTS wants is for Maks to suddenly sprout a halo and keep his mouth shut. What would we get indignant about if he did?
All of the contestants have some little advantage going for them, some it’s athleticism, some it’s fanbase, some it’s dancing ability, some it’s charisma. Parity is impossible, so there’s gonna be some “ringer” accusations. And isn’t that why we watch and discuss? Here’s to season 14…Good luck to them all.
I dunno, Auntie – the Jury is out. If she can move at all, her fanbase could carry her and Maks to the end. Similar to Kirstie. She about as big a ringer, IMO.
And I’m not so sure about Maria. We’ll see. They will be gorgeous together and she’s only 7 or 8 years older than him, which is an improvement.
Personally, I think Derek’s fans always come up with crap ass team names. But I appear to be the only one that thinks that way.
“Team Baby Derek” was pretty bad. Houghzinger was ok, but I found Drickilous hard to pronounce. I can’t really think of any team names that I’ve been particularly fond of over the years…they’ve all had some degree of ridiculousness to them.
Hehe…poor Anna & Corky…their names kinda limit their possibilities…”Team Evanna”, “Team Kurtanna”, “Team Clorky”, “Team Florky”

@Meggie It was funny you mentioned Melissa being a tough cookie and being able to handle Maks. For the same reasons I was thinking Martina should have been paired with Maks.
Drickilous was one of the few that worked for me – because it was a play on ridiculous, plus Derek so obviously loved it.
@ Ashley, yes, Martina, as well as Gladys would work too, because I think Maks would have a lot of respect for them. I still wish I knew if some of the couples were switched when Gladys signed up.
Melissa Gilbert is friends with Tom (remember his comment today about her texting him?). If Maks treats Melissa badly, you can bet Tom will hear about it and give Maks an earful.
I really don’t think it’s going to be an issue this year with Maks!
Meggie, if Maks does what he has done in the past by mirroring his partner, then he should be okay. I can’t see Melissa being um…you know…
