DWTS Season 14: A Foxtrot Or A Cha Cha Cha To Be The Couples First Dance
ABC Media Net has released an official press announcement of the Dancing With The Stars cast in detail. They show bios for each of the celebrities. They also announce that the couples will either perform a Foxtrot or a Cha Cha Cha for their first dance on March 19th. The first full elimination will take place the following week on March 27th.
This season’s dynamic lineup of stars — including a Super Bowl champion, a telenovela star,
a tennis legend, a Disney Channel star, a classical singing star and a music legend – will perform either the Foxtrot or the Cha Cha for the first time on live national television with their professional partners during the two-hour season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, MARCH 19 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Excited yet?

Blech. I hate foxtrot as a first week dance…it never makes the same impact that a cha-cha does. Unless we really see some sucktastic cha-chas – the first person to go will probably have foxtrot the first week. But now that there are 12 celebs instead of 11…will they eliminate someone the first week?
Exactly, Courtney. I think they really ought to do all ballroom OR all Latin for the first couple of weeks. Do cha chas and salsas the first week, do foxtrots and slow waltzes the second. Keep the style difficulty consistent and don’t put couples at a disadvantage because they didn’t get the ass-shaking dance that week.
Hopefully they will do a latin and a ballroom dance b4 the first couple is eliminated. Seems kinda unfair otherwise, foxtrot is pretty intense for the first week !
although Ralph and Karina did a very wonderful, memorable FoxTrot their first night out.
I hate the first week elims. Seems like the first dance is going to be nerve wracking for 99.9% of the celebs and seems kinder to let them have another dance before kicking them to the curb. That said, tho, can’t say I was sad to see Ron Artest go after only 1 week, or David Hasselhoff. Felt bad for their Pros, but glad not to have to see these guys dance again.
@Steve – I agree, but unfortunately I think TPTB realize that the Latin dances are more popular with viewers than the ballroom ones and will never completely omit them from week to week. It would level the playing field, yes, but they might also lose viewers – unless it’s a quickstep or a really emotional waltz or Viennese waltz, the ballroom dances aren’t usually as impactful as the Latin dances. I guess it takes someone with a dance background like us to appreciate them fully
@mimi – I wish they’d do 2 as well, but if the schedule is only 10 weeks, they’re going to have to eliminate someone the first week in order to get down to 3 couples in time for the finale…either that or do a double elim at some point *shudder*.
Does anyone know wat dances each couple has on week one? I think they will give sherri cha cha week one and that Maria will get the foxtrot. The only reason I think Maria is getting the foxtrot is becuase they always give him and hsi partner a ballroom dance on week one thep ast couple of seasons.
Hey… Im excited for a lot of the cast ! I think the quality of dance will improve leaps and bounds over last season.
since we saw jaleel and kym doing some jive steps (which i guess would be their possible 2nd dance), leaning towards them maybe doing the foxtrot first week.
@yo: I think that you are right. I thought I saw that too but was like my eeys are probbly playing tricks on me. Praying he is dressed like urkel for that jive
Which means Cheryl and William will get the Cha Cha the first week. She has gotten it 9 out of her 12 season on the show. But I think she got another good partner for her. In the Gilles or Christian mode. Just hope he can move his hips and shake his Booty with Cheryl. Kym and Derek also got good partners too. These are my picks for the final 3 again
According to the ABC DWTS site, the first results show is on Tuesday 27th March, so does that mean the couples get to dance twice before the first elimination?
Vin, the first 4 or 5 seasons Derek was on he had Cha Cha as his first dance.
While I agree that cha cha cha is more exciting (and probably somewhat less difficult for the celebs to learn/perform in 3 weeks) than the foxtrot, the celebs who’d be most in danger of elimination that first week will be the celebs who don’t have much of a fan base (especially if coupled with a pro who doesn’t have a big fan base either). The fan base challenged pro would probably get eliminated whether s/he does a cha cha or a foxtrot (although a good first dance could help a fan base challenged celeb last an extra week).
