DWTS Sherri Shepherd: The View And Dress Rehearsal Interview With Val Chmerkovskiy (Videos)

The View has released some backstage video of Sherri Shepherd dishing on her first rehearsals. She says she’s been rehearsing for “weeks”…”every day for five hours”…and even on Saturdays and Sundays (one eye raises up. I’m not saying a word). Val is diplomatic and says she’s absolutely wonderful even though she keeps stepping on his feet and hitting him in the face. She wants her dancing to speak for itself and her work put into it. More below on the dancing shoes she’s collected, the costuming (Courtney, you will love this part being she mentions the Niecy Nash promo dress), and lots more.

Adding: And below is a new dress rehearsal interview with her and Val. Let’s hope we get more of these soon with the other couples….

DWTS14 Maksim Chmerkovskiy Dishes On Melissa Gilbert And Sizes Up The Competition (Video)

Maks was interviewed by Access Hollywood today. They start out by asking him if he’s got a shot at winning the mirror ball this season (while new dress rehearsal costume footage plays in the background of he and Melissa). Maks says he feels like he has a shot every season. His first thought upon seeing Melissa is that she was in great shape. His second thought was that he no idea who she was. Melissa gave him a box DVD set of Little House On The Prairie and told him if he did something, he had to watch it for punishment (lol). He says she is much like Kirstie Alley with her humor. Her dancing is good and she is “determined.” Maks talks of the competition as well saying Urkel is the one to beat. Martina and Tony will be “classy” and “competitive”. Lots more below. I love the part at the end when he mentions how he re-evaluated his life and behaviors from last season.

Martina Navratilova Interviewed By Yahoo! Sports Radio About Tennis And Dancing With The Stars

Steve Czabon of Yahoo Sports Radio interviewed Martina Navratilova. She and Tony will be rehearsing where she lives in Aspen, Colorado this week. They talk of her tennis accomplishments. She recalls her 74 wins in a row, etc. and her commitment and will to “prepare”. She says “winning” hasn’t been as important as “always doing and giving her best” which she plans to give to the dance floor. She would rather ‘play well and lose’ versus ‘playing lousy and win’.

Martina mentions Chris Evert and says she wouldn’t have been as good of tennis player without her and vice versa for how they “pushed” each other at the time. Chris was also one of the first of her friends to tweet and text her to tell her she was ‘a brave woman’ for doing Dancing With The Stars and wished her luck.

On why she decided to do Dancing With The Stars, Martina says the show has been asking her to dance for a number of years and Martina always said “no”. She’s always loved to dance, but, in heels and in front of people was one of her greatest fears. As an Ambassador to AARP, she’s always encouraging people to get out of their comfort zone and facing your fears, so she decided to do the same (“walk the talk”) and be an example by finally saying “yes” to Dancing With The Stars.

Martina also raves about Tony Dovolani in the interview and how fantastic he is. She’s “embracing” everything about dancing on the show …even the heels.

As for the other cast members, she thinks they are all terrified and the playing field is pretty even.

So far, Martina and Tony have been rehearsing 3-4 hours a day for 6 days a week. She discusses the differences between dancing and playing tennis so far.

Lots more of this super interview with Martina here.

Personal note: It’s interesting she and Tony are rehearsing in Aspen, Colorado this week. Let’s just say, living and training in “higher elevations” can have it’s advantages when it comes to sports, etc. πŸ˜€

ADDING: By the way, Howard Stern made a recent crack about Martina wearing a suit instead of dress on Dancing With The Stars. Below is how she replied. From USA Today. I’m loving this…

The tennis legend has responded with a tweet that may further pique Stern’s curiosity.

“I hear my favorite radio guy Howard is wondering whether I will wear pants or a dress,” wrote Navratilova. “Howard — expect the unexpected!!”

Navratilova also addressed the general expectation that she won’t perform all that well: “So I hear I am the underdog for winning dwts. Been a while since I’ve been an underdog, but that’s cool. We will be ready come the 18th!”

DWTS Season 14 Stats Class: Pre-Season Elimination Breakdown

I’m BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!

Ok that was quite immature of me, but seriously. After the kind of hiatus that I’ve had full of drama what do you expect from me. πŸ™‚ Anyway, the cast has been announced, we know the pairings let’s find out what the numbers say they would fare.

If you’re new to how I calculate the Pre-Season Elimination Predictions please look at Season 11’s Who Has the Edge Part 1, Part 2 as well as Season 12 for information, one of these off-seasons I’ll write a more thorough analysis for you all… but until then, settle for the short form.

Below I’ve taken the time to rank the breakdowns within the following categories: AGE, OCCUPATION and PROFESSIONAL PARTNER so you have an idea of what variables I use before applying them to Season 14’s cast. So here’s a look at how everything ranks as of last season:

AGE is broken down by decades, starting with the teens. It would seem though in general as you get older, the lower the rank (on average), somehow those in their 60s tend to fare rather well… and who knows why? These include George Hamilton, Jerry Springer, John Ratzenberger, Susan Lucci and Kirstie Alley. Maybe this is a reflection of the voting public? Your guess is as good as mine. The age groups in bold are the ones being represented on the show. The ranks go from highest ranking to lowest ranking:
1: Teens
2: 20s
3: 60s
4: 30s
5: 40s
6: 70s
7: 50s
8: 80s

OCCUPATION is a trickier category to break down, because there are a lot of crossover celebrities, or those that happen to be multi-talented. So I try to categorize celebrities based on what they are most known for, not necessarily their most recent occupation (Billy Ray being a Country Singer as opposed to Disney Star). I also separated the Olympians, NBA players and NFL players from all other athletes. Entertainers are those that actually have a little dance background and entertain with not just their voice (Singer) but with their overall personality on stage (imagine Donny and Marie Osmond), Band Member is anyone that happened to be part of a band in their time (98 Degrees, NSync, Spice Girls).
1: NFL
2: Olympian
3: Disney
4: Band Member
5: Entertainer
6: Soap Opera Star
7: Singer
8: Actor
9: Athlete
10: Host
11: Actress
12: Reality TV Star
13: Boxer
14: Other
15: NBA
16: Model
17: Comedian

PROFESSIONAL PARTNERs, whether we like it or not, play a major role in how their celebrity partner does on the show. Being that this is the 14th season of Dancing with the Stars, at this point in time the professional dancers already coming into the season with their own fanbases (Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Derek Hough anyone?). Below are how the professional dancers fared on this show with how many seasons they’ve “competed” on the show. Not included are professional dancers that have permanently left the show.
1: Derek Hough (8 seasons)
2: Julianne Hough (5 seasons)
3: Cheryl Burke (12 seasons)
4: Tristan MacManus (1 season)
5: Maksim Chmerkovskiy (11 seasons)
6: Karina Smirnoff (10 seasons)
7: Kym Johnson (10 seasons)
8: Lacey Schwimmer (6 seasons)
9: Mark Ballas (9 seasons)
10: Louis van Amstel (8 seasons)
11: Chelsie Hightower (5 seasons)
12: Dmitry Chaplin (3 seasons)
13: Tony Dovolani (12 seasons)
14: Anna Trebunskaya (8 seasons)
15: Corky Ballas (2 seasons)
16: Ashly Costa (4 seasons)
17: Jonathan Roberts (7 seasons)
18: Val Chmerkovskiy (1 season)
19: Peta Murgatroyd (1 season)

Stayed tuned as my next post would take all of the above rankings and see how the numbers would rank Season 14’s Dancing with the Stars cast.

My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

Katherine Jenkins Says Doing Dancing With The Stars Is Out Of Her Comfort Zone

More on Katherine Jenkins!! She tells the New York Post that she’s a little nervous as she begins rehearsals with Mark Ballas to dance on Dancing With The Stars. Below is what she told them on Friday…

β€œI start my first day of training tomorrow, Mark is coming over here for a week of rehearsals. While I am so excited to be part of the show, I am a little nervous because I don’t yet know what I am letting myself in for.” While being used to the discipline of voice training, β€œThis is something out of my comfort zone, it will be a challenge and hopefully something I will enjoy. I am ready for a challenge. I just hope I am physically up for the challenge.”

Two more weeks, All!! You ready yet? πŸ˜‰
